Flash CS4 Help File Offline What Happened to Tag Defintions Showing UP?????

Ok I know I can set the help system to browse offline however
this doesn't work correctly for any less then ActionScript 3. When
you highlighted a word in the past such as "null" it use to pull up
the word and the info in all the books. Now all I see is a web
browser that doesn't do this for me. I mean who sits there at
adobe's end and thinks up of ways to slow someone down like this??
How can you remove the core help quick linking from the program.
Number 1 not everyone is on AS3 and some of us still have to update
AS2 code.
Bigspace ships has an air application that installed AS3 flex
reference but again useless unless you are on AS3. Has anyone found
another way to get this old school functionality to work on
CS4???

Jay Armstrong here. I’m one of the writers who works on
the Flash docs.
Regarding this comment and the many others in other threads
that have added important details about the issues with the help
workflow, and in particular the ActionScript help workflow: We hear
your pain and we are working to implement solutions to these
issues.
I understand that this new help workflow is more painful than
in CS3 when you had the Help right in its own panel in the product.
Here’s some background:
The implementation of Help within the Flash Help panel prior
to CS4 required that *all* the Help files be installed on the local
drive with the product, resulting in some issues that we tried to
address in CS4. Including Help on the installation disc caused
issues including:
- Required that Help be completed much earlier for
localization and end-game testing.
- Resulted in static Help files that had been completed early
in the development cycle, sometimes not accounting for last minute
UI or other changes.
- A long install process.
- Crowded the installation disc.
These aren't meant to be full explanations of why we made the
changes, but just some background as to some of the things we were
thinking about. Clearly the decisions we came to weren't the right
ones for many users. We are intent on making things better.
Moving Help online makes it possible to update Help on an
ongoing basis, allows users to comment on and embellish the Help,
and allows us to add links from the help out to new articles,
tutorials, videos, and code samples on adobe.com and throughout the
Flash web community. One of you rightly pointed out that the Adobe
Updater could have been used for some of this, but I believe that
the updater would have required much more rigorous certification by
us of any update packages and the update/install process for each.
We actually are updating the online help files very frequently, so
this process would have been a major barrier to these updates.
We’ve had a struggle about how to deliver the Flash
Help for a long time, as we have a lot of users who have been quite
vocal about not liking the Help panel consuming space within the
Flash window as well as users who really want it there so they
don’t have to leave the IDE.
Having said all that, I still totally understand what
you’re saying about losing your code, glance, code, glance,
code workflow. As you probably know, we’ve been getting a lot
of feedback about this, along with other issues that online Help
has caused. We are actively looking at ways of solving these, but
the Help-in-a-browser issue a difficult problem, as this aspect of
the Help implementation is baked fairly deep into the CS4 product.
Since CS4 shipped, we have implemented solutions to some of the
issues with Help raised by users, such as allowing you to select
the default destination of F1 (though Flash CS4 always went to the
actual Help system rather than the Flash Help and Support page,
which is what these users wanted in other products). I just
don’t know if there will be a solution in the CS4 time frame
for viewing Help within Flash itself. As noted in this thread,
there are a few independent developers working on non-browser help
viewers, such as Jamie Kosoy, Technical Director at Big Spaceship,
whose AIR application for the CS4 Language Reference docs is
available at
http://labs.bigspaceship.com/2008/12/09/air-app-as3-language-reference/.
We knew that people use the AS3 Language Reference a lot, so
we did install a local, abridged version of that with the product.
You only see it when not connected to the internet or if you
disable online connections as described earlier in this thread, and
it still opens in a web browser and still has the same navigation
interface as the online version. You can also download a local copy
of the AS Reference, which does get updated periodically and can be
viewed locally regardless of the state of your internet connection,
but it also is all html and opens in a web browser. As previously
noted, the download is available here:
http://help.adobe.com/support/documentation/en/flash/10/ActionScript3LangRef.zip.
I know this thread started off with AS2 concerns, and we hear
those too.
In some of the other threads out there about the Help, people
have raised issues about the contents navigation in the CS4 version
of the ASLR as well. We are listening to all these issues and
actively working on solutions that will address these questions.
We’d really like to give you better control over whether you
see online or local content, whether you see it inside the IDE or
in a separate application, etc.
I know that you are all really frustrated at some of these
help changes, and so I want to say how much we appreciate your
feedback. I’m sorry that my reply doesn’t give you the
magic bullet that you are understandably hoping for.

  • Flash CS4 help not working

    Hi, I'm using Flash CS4. After updating my flashplayer, it no longer works with IE8. Therefor I recently
    tried Opera.
    When working with AS3 I did what I always do to access context-sensitive help. I placed the cursor in a
    blue word and hit the F1 key. This normally takes me where I want, but this time it didn't. First I was
    asked if I wanted to make Opera my default browser. I clicked no. Then Opera opened up and I could
    see the help home page.
    Now, this got me frustrated as I still have IE8 as my default browser. Why did Flash suddenly want to
    open the help files in Opera? I guess that would have been fine, though, had the correct page opened. I
    wanted to see info about my blue AS-word, not the help home page.
    I then uninstalled Opera as it clearly was unable to show me context-sensitive help. I then tried again.
    Now nothing happened. I tried selecting Flash Help from the help menu (which would normally take me
    to the help home page), but nothing happened.
    I also have Firefox installed. Something similar have happened to people when they installed Firefox.
    Anyway, Chrome has managed not to do this, I've had it installed for some time now.
    I have located my local copy of the help files and I'm able to access the AS3 index.html file and start
    trying to navigate to the correct class reference. But I hate it. It's inefficient. I have tried to see if there
    are anything helpfyl in the preferences, but I found nothing at all.
    Why does not Flash ignore which other browsers I have installed and just open help in my default
    browser?
    What can I do to once again access context-sensitive help?

    I still haven't found any solutions to this. Is there anything I can do?

    function hideClip(e:MouseEvent):void {
    instrument.visible = false;
    function showClip(e:MouseEvent):void {

    make sure you have imported the Sine class
    import fl.motion.Sine;

  • When I purchased my Mac six months ago, I transferred my Quicken data to Quicken Essentials which has worked well for me until yesterday.  Now Quicken Essentials will not open the data file.  What happened?  How do I get back in?

    When I purchased my Mac six months ago, I transferred my Quicken files to Quicken Essentials.  That worked fine until yesterday.  Now I'm getting messages that there is not application to open the files, or that it just plain can't open the file.  What gives here?  What happened?  How can I get back in?

    Launch the Quicken application and try to open the file from there, if you haven't already. If that fails, and a simple restart of the computer doesn't help, try reinstalling the application. If that doesn't cure the problem, I would suggest you take this up in the Quicken Community:
    https://qlc.intuit.com/app/full_page
    or with Quicken support:

  • Flash CS4 installer file name?

    I need to reinstall Flash CS4 because I somehow broke the CS4 version of Bridge last week. I *know* I've got the installer somewhere on my hard drive but have been unsuccessful in locating it.
    Can someone give me a hint as to the installer name? I've done searches on "Adbe", "ADBEFLPEN", looked for .dmg files, and about a half dozen other tries. I don't need the full file name but a few characters to enable a good search would be a big help. I'm on a pc.
    Thanks!

    Hi
    Ouch!! Backup is your friend...
    Couldn't you just download a trial version and activate it again?
    Technolux has a nice site with links to earlier versions..(All trials)

  • PSE9: Using File/Move; what happens with duplicate filenames

    I have PSE9 on Win7.
    I'd like to use File/Move to move a large number of images from one set of folders to a another location.
    The new location would be a single folder.
    I'm pretty confident that I have duplicate filenames. So the same filename exists in more than one
    of my 'source' folders.
    Using File/Move what is going to happen when I encounter these duplicates?
    Thanks for any help or advice.

    So I used a belt and supenders method of organization. Tags and folders.
    Oh, how I hate that phrase. This has sent many people down the road of organizing two different ways, with a cost. You did twice as much work. And in my opinion, using two different ways to organize was totally unnecessary, and waste of effort.
    But in all honesty I don't use a lot of the advanced features of PSE. So from time to time
    Neither do I. But that is irrelevant to how your set things up so you can find your photos when you want them.
    For my new downloads, I believe I will just put them all into a single 'My Pictures' folder.
    Unless your version of PSE has more features than mine does, putting them into a single folder (without subfolders by capture date) is more work than using the default folder naming scheme, which is capture date! And it buys you nothing! There is absolutely no harm in using the default of putting photos in folders by capture date. Don't make extra work for yourself! Now if your version lets you put all your new photos into a single large folder ...
    I read some web articles that gave me the impression that there might be another way to migrate rather
    than Backup/Restore.
    Not sure what you read. You could manually transfer all your photos AND catalog file from one computer to another, and if you get all the details right, everything still works! But the onus is on you to get all the details right.
    It sounded like after writing all the metadata those images could be File/Get Photos... intoPSE. But I also saw there may be a need to use the Keyword Tags/+/Save Keyword Tags to File function as well.
    Writing metadata to files does not let you rebuild your catalog completely. There is information in your catalog that will never be written to the files themselves. In fact, writing metadata to the photo files was NEVER intended to be a backup method; it was intended to be a method to allow PSE to communicate SOME information with other applications (like Flickr). So, should you want to make a backup, metadata is not the way to go. If you want multiple backup approaches, use the PSE method, and also make copies of your catalog file and photos using some other automated method.
    I used the File/ 'Write Keywords and Properties... ' function to write all the metadata back into all of my files.That seems like a good idea because I use multiple file backup approaches. Is there a way to get
    PSE to always write that info into a file anytime it changes? Like when I'm adding a tag?
    There is no way to automate this.

  • Flash CS4 help!

    Hello, im a new beginner to Flash CS4. I was just trying to make candles with its flame. I got the first one working. It consists of three layers with an actionscript layer. Then i tried to duplicate the three layers of images, so they can work the same actionscript layer but it doesn't work. Only the first one
    is working. WHat should i do so the duplicated layers of the candle work? Or is there a better way to make copies of images?
    Here is my actionscript layer code:
    function drawEffect()
        var _loc2 = offsets.length;
        for (var _loc1 = 0; _loc1 < _loc2; ++_loc1)
            offsets[_loc1].y = offsets[_loc1].y + offsetSpeeds[_loc1];
        } // end of for
        noiseImage.perlinNoise(250, 800, 2, seed, true, true, null, true, offsets);
        var _loc3 = flameMask.transform.matrix;
        _loc3.tx = noise_mc._x;
        _loc3.ty = noise_mc._y;
        noiseImage.draw(flameMask,_loc3,flameMask.transform.colorTransform,"multiply");
        noiseImage.applyFilter(noiseImage, noiseImage.rectangle, new flash.geom.Point(0, 0), colFilter);
        var _loc4 = noiseImage.getColorBoundsRect(4.294967E+009, 4.294967E+009);
        var _loc5 = _loc4.height * _loc4.width;
        flickerGlow((127 - _loc5 / 10) / 1024);
    } // End of the function
    function flickerGlow(amount)
         var _loc1 = new flash.filters.ColorMatrixFilter([1 + amount, 0, 0, 0,  0, 0, 1 + amount, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 1 + amount, 0, 0, 0, 0, 0, 1, 0]);
        candleMain.filters = [_loc1];
    } // End of the function
    Stage.scaleMode = "noScale";
    var pxPerSecond = 5.000000E-001;
    var seed = Math.floor(Math.random() * 1000000000);
    var offsetSpeeds = [20, 32];
    var offsets = [new flash.geom.Point(0, 0), new flash.geom.Point(0, 0)];
    var flameMask = flameContainer.flameMask;
    var noiseImage = new flash.display.BitmapData(flameMask._width, flameMask._height, false);
    noise_mc = flameContainer.createEmptyMovieClip("noise_mc", 1);
    noise_mc._x = flameMask._x;
    noise_mc._y = flameMask._y;
    flameContainer.blendMode = "screen";
    flameMask._visible = false;
    noise_mc.attachBitmap(noiseImage, 1);
    var  colFilter = new flash.filters.ColorMatrixFilter([6, 0, 0, 0, -255,  5.500000E+000, 0, 0, 0, -255, 5, 0, 0, 0, -255, 0, 0, 0, 0, 255]);
    drawEffect();
    onEnterFrame = function ()
        drawEffect();

    the actionscript will be part of the movieclip.
    shift-click and drag across all layer/frames that constitute your candle, right click and click copy frames.  click insert/new symbol and select movieclip.  right click the only frame/layer visible in the movieclip and click paste.  all your candle assets should be converted to that movieclip.

  • Adobe Flash CS4 log files

    Are there some log files for the Adobe Flash CS4. When my flash CS4 crases is there some log file where I can read the cause for the cras?

    Make sure you update to Flash 10.0.2 - it may be a performance/memory usage issue on publish of the older files.

  • CS4 Help files

    I do not get any action on either the help button or with the F1 key. Any suggestions. Did I do something wrong during installation?

    Yes, you're right Mike... It would be more comfortable to reach helps within applications.
    In fact, I looked a bit to files and registry. And I found a way to do this. You can reach help subjects from application (Premiere Pro, After Effects e.t.c.) menus or pressing F1 key.
    1) Open main help folder:
    (C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Help
    2) Find and open your applications folder in your insallaion language
    For Premiere Pro (English)
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Help\en_US\PremierePro\4.0
    3) You'll find a text file named "helpmapBaseUrl.txt" in this folder. This text file has one line content, the url of the help file. And this url points the on-line help files at Adobe site. You can simply change this URL to point the help files in your hard disk.
    For doing this, open this text file in notepad.
    It has the line
    "http://help.adobe.com/en_US/PremierePro/4.0"
    for Premiere Pro.
    Change this line to:
    "file:///C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Help\en_US\PremierePro\4.0\index.html"
    (May be this forum page will separate long lines. Ignore it! You must write the path at one single line... There is no 'end-of-line' or carriage return. You can copy from above lines, without quotation marks of course.)
    ... and finally save this text file, overwriting original. It's done. Now you can use your F1 Key or menu for help files in Premiere.
    That was for Premiere Pro. You can use same method for After Effects, Photoshop or Other CS4 applications.
    For After Effects:
    Fint the text file named "helpmapBaseUrl.txt" in folder:
    C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Help\en_US\AfterEffects\9.0
    Open this text file.
    You'll see the original help url as "http://help.adobe.com/en_US/AfterEffects/9.0"
    Change this line to:
    "file:///C:\Program Files\Common Files\Adobe\Help\en_US\AfterEffects\9.0\index.html"
    (There is no end-of-line or carriage return again. Write all in single line. You can copy from above lines, without quotation marks of course.)
    Save the text file overwriting original. It's done for After Effects.
    You can reach every help subject on help menu instantly from your hard disk now.
    I showed the way for Premiere Pro and After Effects. But you can use same method for other CS4 applications if you want.
    One last note: I supposed your applications on standart "C:\Program Files" main folder. If it's not, you have to change the paths according your main installation path.

  • I could really use some Flash CS4 help.....

    I have used Flash CS4 but I have a problem that no one seems to have an answer?  This may be a bug in the software, I don't really know.  Here's the problem:
    I create a flash movie, including sound clips, and export the movie in an .avi format and the masks won't work.
    I export the exact same movie in a .swf format and the masks work but the sound clips don't.   The sound clips don't even show as a "blue bar" across the movie as they normally do?
    Do any of your really intelligent people know how to get the export of a movie in Flash CS$ into a .avi or .swf format making both the masks and sound clips work?   I'm using Corel Video Studio Pro X2 on a PC.  Ton's of RAM.   I build this computer to build video's.
    Thanks!!!

    Hello rikochee,
    Can you please email your fla to us at [email protected]? Please note that our filter system cannot accept .zip file. If you are to zip your fla, please change the file extension from .zip to .zzz.

  • HELP !!   What happened to iTrip   ?!

    I just bought a new 30 gig iPod and was distressed to find my iTrip accessory (from my old 20 gig iPod) to broadcast to an FM channel did not adapt to the new iPod. What happened to may favorite IpOD feature? Will I no longer be able to listen to my ipod in mr car or hotel room ??!!
    Is there are compatible feature on the 30 gig!

    There is a new iTrip. It ***** that they didn't make it forward compatible, but they do have a new one that plugs in at the bottom and has a lot of different features. You don't have to load in "Music Tracks" to change the station, there is an LED screen and a switch. I loved mine before it got stolen at work by someone right before they left the company. Check it out at the apple store!

  • What Happened to the TV show "Surface"

    I am no longer able to access the TV show "Surface" in the music store. I downloaded the first 2 episodes, but now when I click on the show icon nothing happens.
    I am able to click ADD VIDEO when the pilot or the most recent show are under other headings. But I cant get to the list of episodes for the show.
    Meaning... something is wrong with the link, either the show has been removed from the Music store or the link is broken.
    Anybody else notice this?
    KW

    Is it just my iPod that lacks this?
    If you are the only person not including the required data nodes which would allow the software to create a valid "path" between a particular TV show and a "TV Shows" video category then yes, you would be the only one having this problem. Unfortunately, neither is likely to be true here. Remember, the "Video Kind" (TV Show) merely tells the software how a particular file is to be handled while "TV Shows" is both a defined category and a path component (data node) just as much as the series title, season shown, and the episode identification/episode numerical index. Without these data nodes no path exists and no menu path can be displayed.
    ... noticed that when Steve shows off the iPod, there is option for 'TV Shows' in the Video menu next to 'Music Videos' and 'Video Podcasts'.
    Not sure how "hands on" Steve is when it comes to all of the nuances of the software applications he may demonstrate. Would assume, at least to some extent, he does not personally create many of the sample files used during the stage demonstrations. Therefore, he may, or may not, be fully cognizant of problems you are facing. And, even if he is, I doubt he would be willing to emphasize the attendant shortcomings or volunteer the fact that a third party application is needed to fully exploit Apple's own "Golden Goose" software in non-commercial areas (i.e., non-purchased TV shows).
    In short, Google "Lostify" and see if it helps.
