Flash CS4 update failing.... why?

I have fully operational and registered versions of many of the CS4 programs, but lately any attempts to update them are failing, using either Adobe Updater, or by downloading the update itself. For example, today I wanted to update Flash CS4 10.0.0 to 10.02, and just after the download is completed and set-up begins, the operation immediately fails, and generates a lengthy errors report. My computer is well tuned, I have 4 GB of RAM, a quad processor etc. and all the originally installed CS4 applications are working as they should...I just can't update them. I have no problems with any of the other software on the computer. Even the update for Adobe Media Encoder fails in exactly the same way. Acrobat Reader is the only update that has been successful. My o/s is XP/SP3. Is this an Adobe problem? Anyone else having this problem? Any ideas as to why a simple update is failing or what I can do to 'fix' the problem and complete the Flash CS4 update? ......................frank

The problem has been solved. The culprit was Adobe Acrobat speed loader (Acrobat_sl) running at Start-up. When this was disabled via msconfig> Startup tab etc., all Adobe updates were run successfully. When it was NOT disabled, all updates would immediately fail after setup.exe was initiated.

  • Flash CS4 Trial Failed

After downloading and installing Flash Pro CS4 I got to use
it only a couple days for a couple hours each day. Now the trial
software won't open. I get a box telling me options of trial or
register. I click the trial option and the next box states "Problem
with the trial." The software wants me to buy and register even
though I have gotten no trial period other than a few hours. Is
this normal. Is there any solution to regain my trial period or is
the the typical Adobe tactic of their trial softwares?
Also, the Adobe site won't allow me to download any other
trial softwares such as Dreamweaver. I am new to Adobe site and
have never tried any of their software before.
There is no support for anyone other than paid customers so
if you know something, I'd appreciate any assistance.
    Thank you.

What in the World? Is there anyway to get FLaSH CS4 trial
version to install? OK. I have Service Pack 3, it keeps telling me
to disable my Firewall, (which I have done over and over, after
re-booting...) I even tried to install after checking off
everything in the msconfig in the Run it won't do anything
different... Also, I still haven't seen hide nor hair of any
'FLEXnet' file or app ANYWHERE. Honestly, what is with this crazy
'install' routine Adobe? Help! I really want to be working with
this new prog!!! Please do away with this insane install thing
    please... (ASAP) ...thanks.
UPDATE: Ok, now i've gotten to the next problem: the Install
stops at 8% (Dynamiclink Support) no matter what... I was able to
install the CS4 of Photoshop though. I'm going to try removing my
licensed copy of Flash MX2004 in case it is interfering with the
CS4 Flash install... Other options may be try installing the
Premiere so that it can get the Dynamiclink Support installed ...?
maybe CleanScript...? no way to find the simple solution on any
support pages or forums though? hmm...
    SOLVED:
I managed to put off some bills and purchased the upgrade
from MX2004 and the install worked fine... go figure! (This also
allowed for the phone tech support assistance i apparently needed
too. I got a nice person after a 15 minute wait.) The purchased
upgrade download worked as far as the install went: good; but: I
went click on the FLaSH icon to open the program after a reboot and
it said "the Licensing is no durn good no more." So I said,hmmm...
Here's what was likely a problem: the FLEXnet folder (had to
do an Explorer search to locate these) had been duplicated from a
previous install attempt a few days earlier and the duplicate AS
WELL AS the 'non-duplicate' had a 'read only' status that need to
be un-checked and permissions had to be set on the FLEXnet folder
for Admin, etc. That was pretty much the culprit. Hope this may
help someone. This tech file was a help: kb405970

    5. When asked to replace the existing Players folder, choose Yes
Shortly after giving administrative okay to the install and clicking "yes" to the "copy and replace these files" popup, I get a Windows popup with this message:
"Windows found that this file is potentially harmful. To help protect your computer, Windows has blocked access to the file. Name: FlashPlayer.exe" OK"
No options on the popup except "OK" which stops the installation. I realize this is a Windows issue, but it's also a CS4 installation issue. (I find it extremely ironic that Windows detects the installation of a security update as a security issue.) Any suggestions?

  • Flash Player Update Fails Windows 7 64 bit??

This problem has been the case on many applications & websites over the past 8 months, which renders much of the web and some of my software, useless.
I have followed all recommendations, from MS, Adobe and from suggestions on many, many forums, yet still the problem of installing the FlashPlayer update continues to hamper my Windows experience.  I have been FORCED to use Chrome as my browser instead of Internet Explorer and now my printing software from HP no longer works.
The ActiveX control/Update from Adobe will NOT under any cenario, complete installation and continues to fail when registering.  I am using admin rights and I am very competant with the use of computers and software.  The only thing I am reluctant to do, is to manually edit the registry.
Searching the net, I find this is a very common issue which is yet to be resolved. Why is this?  The installation of any software in this day & age, should be straight forward and simple.  This issue has been a problem for thousands of people for quite some time and I am dismayed that it has continued!! Why have Microsoft & Adobe failed the end user in respect of this?
I have tried all previously suggested options and procedures set out here, on the Adobe website and those recommended in forums.  I have also tried the option to un-install Flash Player (with Adobe Flash Un-installer), and re-install from scratch.  I do have full admin rights on this PC and have run the update as Administrator.  I have - before someone should ask - followed the install procedure with all security software disabled.
So sensible people, with sensible answers, how did you fix this issue on your machine?
    Thank you!
(OS: Windows 7 64bit, IE 10 - Latest - also now have to use Chrome to view online video content).

'Failed to register' is caused by inadequate/corrupted registry key permissions.
One possibility to fix it (does not work in some cases): How do I fix Windows permission problems with Flash Player?
Another possibility that I have just though of: can you try http://support.microsoft.com/mats/program_install_and_uninstall/
Also, have you tried to use the offline installer from http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-player-windows.html#mai n-pars_header ?

  • CS4 Updates fail to install

I have CS4 Master Suite and have had these update install problems for months. I ran thru the issues with Adobe Support but they couldn't help.
Then I found a post on the subject which referred to TechNote kb408524. I followed the instructions in it, uninstalled CS4, removed files/folders/set premissions and reinstalled. Then downloaded the updates and ran them and SOME WORKED!
So, for example Photoshop, Flash, Acrobat all installed without problems BUT, InDesign, Device Central, Soundbooth, Media Encoder, Premiere etc did not - failed with the same error messages. I'm totally stumped as to how to sort this. Any ideas?
My system is WIN32 Vista Business, loads of memory and disk space.

SUCCESS at last! Finally, Adobe has come up with a mechanism to resolve this issue. It entails uninstalling the suite (again), downloading and installing a MSoft 'zap' utility then downloading and running an Adobe 'zap' utility. This clears debris left from previous failed installs and allows a 'clean' install.
A couple of points to watch:
    1. Its just an install of the MS utility (don't try to run it)
    2. When you run the Adobe zapper it shows a list of items found - numbered 1 onwards. You need to run the utility for EACH of these, so in my case that was 8 times.
    3. As a foot note, the updates were some 900Mb in size and, when I ran these one (apparently) failed - (Adobe Extention Manager CS4 2.1) with the usual Windows error message. However, once all the others had successfully installed I check again for updates and CS4  said none available - so I think it is done. JOY!
Here is the info from Adobe:
    a) Download and run the Microsoft Windows Installer CleanUp
    Utility. Using this link http://support.microsoft.com/kb/290301
    b) Download it and then,Double click on msicuu2.exe and
follow the on screen instructions to complete the installation process.
    c) Restart your system and close any open applications.
    d) Download the Adobe CS4 Clean Script for Windows. by using
    http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs4clean.html
    e) Unzip the CS4_Cleanup_Utility_Win.zip.

Using the new CS3 Adobe Updater, for CS3 Design

San_flash, a "long time"? How about I started the update at
4:30 PM and at 9 AM it was still not done or with a failed. No,
considering this happens on multiple systems.. it is the Adobe
update. AGAIN! This is not the first bad CS updater/installer. I
should know, I manage around 700 systems and have one form of CS or
another on a couple hundred of those systems. I CRINGE every time

I also know how to prepare for updates as well.. I repair

  • CS4 updates fail in XP

I have Adobe Design Premium CS4 and updates are indicated for almost all the programs.  (I have InDesign 6.0.3,  for example, as one of the programs that needs updating)
After the updates are downloaded, the installer fails in succession, as it goes from program to program.
I found information on this problem for the Vista operating system, but I have Windows XP on a network server (a college campus).  The symptoms are the same, however: each update seems to go only so far, then loops back and starts again; after several tries on the same update, a "could not install" error message pops up, and the updater asks if I want to move on to the next program update.  I do, and then the same thing happens with the next program update, and then the next.....
Any thoughts on how can I get the updates to install?

  • CS4 Updater fails to update anything

Each tme I run the Adobe Updater for CS4, it reports that there are 12 updates. I run it, it downloads and applies the patches, compleing without any errors.
But when I open Photoshop for example, it is still the same version number of 11.0 on the splash screen when it should be 11.0.2.
When I run the updater again, the same 12 updates are ready to be installed. So not one of the updates is applied.
If I try to manually update by downloading the update directly, the installer says that the version I am updating to is already intalled.
Anyone one know how to correct this? Adobe Support has not helped at all as I am not running CS6 or better.
    Rick

    I disagree for two reasons:
    First, from Adobe themselves
Adobe Photoshop CS5, CS4, and CS3 were also tested with Mac OS X Mavericks and there are currently no known major issues.
Second, I have another Mavricks computer that is not having any issues.
I spent a lot of money on CS 4 and I expected that Adobe would stand behnd their products. If one can update the other should just fine also.
This was a clean insall of Mavrick's on this computer

  • Flash CS4 10.0.2 update failed to install

The flash CS4 10.0.2 update fails to install no matter how many times I try or restart my machine.  A flash media encoder update and a flash lite update also fail.  Can someone please help me figure out how to fix this?
I've searched the forum, and I'm aware of this thread
    http://forums.adobe.com/thread/432619?tstart=0
but it does not provide a solution that works for me.  I posted there, but I wasn't sure it would be answered because the thread was listed as already answered.

If anyone else searches and finds this, I was able to fix my problem by running the clean script
    http://www.adobe.com/support/contact/cs4clean.html
    and then reinstalling flash cs4.
Also, adobe effectively does not have a technical support phone line.  They have one in name only.  You'll just be put on hold endlessly, disconnected randomly, and given the runaround constantly if you ever do manage to get through to a live person.  Like everyone else, adobe has apparently outsourced their support to people who have no idea how to troubleshoot anything, and can barely parrot from a prewritten script.  There is no light at the end of the phone tree - you can't get water from a stone, so don't waste your time like I did.

  • Photoshop cs4 11.0.2 update fails windows 7 64 bit

    Hello..
I finally got upgraded to windows 7 64 bit and and installed the cs4 download I got awhile back and it installed cs4 11.0 no problems. I got every update to install but the 11.0.2 update fails and I get this message
    "Adobe Setup has stopped working"
I have tried every thing I read, run as admin, move stuff out of appdat folder, reinstall.... reboot 39 times , I have no windowd defender or AV running at all everything I can find on here does not work and I get this error..... I read everyone gets this error except a darn few lucky souls..... so I tried compatibilty modes, it does the same error from win 98 all the way to win 7, xp same error vista same error it don't matter what version of windows this update seems to just stop working, so I did a troubleshooter on it and it determined that this program is incompatible with windows... I tried downloading it from Adobe and tried that... same error everytime.... don't matter if its through adobe updater or direct download this update fails and I decided to try 11.0.1 and it does the same so I guess PS CS4 11.0 is really not updatable to 11.0.2. and adobe suggests you to go cs5 to solve this problem. Except their updates fail to it looks like on this forum....
This is the problem details I get if it helps, because it does not leave a log for some reason.

I have tried run as admin, same error pops up, I tried giving myself ownership and special permissions and everything to the PS folder since the exe is read only thinking thats why it wont update... I ran the clean script and reinstalled and tried every trick known to man ( well this forum and several others found on google) and nothing seems to work, the 11.0.2 update itself crashes, so I am just going to assume its windows fault because it does seem to work for other people....but it does seem to crash on mac I have read too... I have UAC disabled and no AV installed trying this so I installed my trend micro AV and checked and the puter is virus free so am not sure why I can not use the update but here is the screen shots I get....
I run setup.exe as admin I get this
then when I click on next, with 2 seconds I get this popping up, count 1,2 bam their it is..
so no matter what I do I get this error on 11.0.1 or 11.0.2 updates in every mode or permissions you can give...

  • Update to Flash Player 11 has caused our Flash content to crash the Flash Player plugin. Why?

I work for a health and safety training company and we've create a SCORM compliant course using Flash that has been imported into Absorb LMS (our own instance of it www.astutis-elearning.com).  There are nine modules in the course each developed using Flash Professional CS5.5.
These all worked fine using the Flash Player 10.3 plugin but since the Flash Player update to 11 our modules (not all Flash content) crash the plugin at certain places.  Some modules load fine and then crash later, some modules get through the preloader scene and then crash as soon as it gets to the main menu.  We've done some testing and don't know if it could be a Flash component that is causing the issue.  At any rate, they used to work with 10.3 and they don't work with 11.  We've tried on a number of machines and browsers.  Its the same on all of them.
I am prepared to provide a login for people willing to help to see what is causing the problem.
This is an important issue as we have people who are currently on the course that may not be able to complete the course if they upgrade their version of Flash to the latest version.  I hope I have provided enough information.  Let me know if you need any more.

    Paul and DevChaz,
Like you, I am a Flash Developer at a company that creates eLearning.  Therefore, I assume that the way that we use Flash is very similar.  I was quite excited as I read through this thread since I have been experiencing very similar browser crashes in my newer courses since FP11 came out.  Like you, we have recently upgraded to CS5.5.
All of my crashes are with AS2 courses.  I would be curious to know if yours are AS2 or AS3.
Anyway, I took my use case, saved the flas down to CS4 and recompiled all the swfs.  This did not fix the problem as it did for you (see DevChaz's earlier post in this thread dated Oct 12, 2011 4:46 PM).
I have my problem logged in the Adobe BugBase here:
    https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3018637
    fpMonster,
I have recently added my cs4 versus cs5.5 compiled use_case on bugbase.  I am hoping that you'll look at this use_case and compare it to PaulGray's use_case to see why my use_case does NOT work correctly when compiled in a lower version of the Flash IDE.  In addition, perhaps you could share notes regarding this issue with someone at BugBase.  Thanks in advance.

Pls help to suggest a solution for this issue.

You need to update it with Windows Update. You can also go to: Flash Player Issues | Windows 8
and at the bottom grab the KB, however I've had much better luck using Windows update than I have with the KB alone.

  • Why is Flash CS4 so terrible in Windows 7 64 Bit?

    Hello,
Well, I still have yet to see any posts or answers to posts that address the following problems with Flash CS4 on Windows 7 64 Bit:
    1. Flash takes half of forever to load.
    2. Flash is slow.
    3. Flash will not allow to Test Movies or Test Scenes. (This one is the most maddening and irritating.)
    4. Will not publish files due to an incorrect parameter. (Notice it doesn't say WHICH one.)
    Basic Specs:
    Windows 7 64 Bit OS
    8GB of RAM
    Intel i5 750
I would really hate to have to revert to Windows XP just to use Flash CS4 reliably and I certainly am in no mood to purchase yet ANOTHER upgrade to CSx.
Windows 7 has been out for around a year. Certainly someone at Adobe can illuminate why this program functions so poorly in Windows 7.
    Thank you.
    MGL

Oh, and if by chance you, too, run Windows 64 Bit and Flash CS4, I would appreciate if you could share any thing you did to your system or installation to make it work better.
Please don't just say, "Well, it works for me, blah blah blah."
    Thanks.
