Flash CS5.5 duplicating *everything*

Hi there,
One of our users has been having a bizarre issue in CS5.5 where it duplicates things. Last time it happened it randomly created six copies of everything in the whole file but it doesn't always. It's been known to randomly duplicate, layers, images, both within movie clips and globally. There doesn't seem to be much logic behind where the duplication occurs, except it tends to be after he imports a vector.
He's running Flash 11.5.1.349 on Windows 7 64bit.
Does anybody have any clue what's causing this and what we can do to resolve it because it's really causing some spectacular disruption.
Thanks!

It's definitley not a keyboard issue. I can't seem to identify a pattern, unfortunately. It just seems to randomly spawn huge amounts of duplicates of everything in the whole file. I thought it had calmed itself down but it's just happened again.
There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason, resetting preferences doesn't help. I might just upgrade him to CS6 and hope it works. Not an ideal solution, though.

  • Flash Pro 5.0 suddendly starts duplicating everything, on stage, in library, even scenes

    After some time working with Flash, the program begins duplicating items in the Library (without giving them new names or just copying them), duplicating instances on stage, sometimes even scenes, until the program becomes unresponsive.
    This always happens after working for a longer time. It's like someone invisible sitting next to you pressing "ctrl-D" like a monkey gone postal.
    Apart from that, the program suffers from the dreaded "out of memory" bug (discussed in another thread). I coudln't believe that I was able to work more than 3 days without a crash using a special hack that would allow Flash to use > 2gb segments for memory allocation.
    So what could be the cause of this? Could it be, that the document itself is corrupted or is it just a common behaviour of Flash CS5 to mess up everything if you're running it for "too long" in one session?
    This is almost bringing my production to a halt, because the only thing I can to is to restart the whole system to have another "half hour" or so, befor the bug kicks in again. Or I could use Flash CS4, but what the f***k did I get CS5 for anyway then?!
    So if someone experienced the same behaviour with Flash CS5, maybe you know a trick. I would really appreciate it!

    Try file->save-as and save down to a CS4 document. Then try it. I've had a lot of really weird issues with CS5 in the past that saving down to CS4 somehow corrected. Although I use CS5.5 currently. Docs made in CS5 often don't even import into CS5.5 correctly. I need to go in CS5, open it, save down to CS4 and then reopen in CS5.5. There's something about saving down to CS4 that seems to fix things.
    You can always save down to CS4, work in CS4 to make your changes then import it back into CS5 and export it.
    In this world things are too complex and sometimes although it's not ideal, just getting it done for deadline is the real job.

  • Alt key stuck when using mouse in flash CS5.5 on os x lion. sucks. please help.

    Hi there,
    since I've updated to lion flash cs5.5 is utterly unusable. The alt key is always stuck in this app when I use the mouse. So if I select something then try to move it, it copies it (as if I was holding down alt key). It basically means I can't use flash for anything..
    Has anyone else had this issue and resolved it?
    I saw similar forum posts for photoshop cs5 and snow leopard, and even tried the utility provided on those forums. Didn't work.
    I removed my wacom tablet driver,
    I reinstalled flash,
    I shut down EVERYTHING except flash.  Nothing works - alt key is always active in flash.
    Is this some kind of bad joke from Adobe? Is there really no fix for this? I can't believe it - honestly...
    Additional note - in the key remapping page - it reckognizes the alt key normally, and all other key combinations - it is only when using the mouse that the alt key is stuck.

    Hello,
    I was having the same exact problems with Flash Professional after upgrading my OS X to Lion.  (Alt/Option key seems like it's stuck / Duplicating objects on stage just by clicking and moving the object.)  My main problem was not being able to curve a straight line with the Arrow tool.  Instead it would create a corner point as if the Alt/Option key was being held.
    I stumbled upon this thread before finding my solution so I thought I'd share what worked for me.
    Here is the thread I found with the solution that worked:
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5222999
    Basically I had a program called AirDisplay installed.  AirDisplay allows me to use my iPad as a second monitor for my Mac.  So if you have this program installed, or one similar to AirDisplay, uninstalling this program may get your Flash Professional to work correctly again.  It certainly did for me to my amazement.
    Hope this works for you or anyone else who is experiencing this weird and frustrating problem!

  • Flash CS5.5 crashes when I try to open any files. New ones as well as saved .fla's.

    Yesterday I was working in Flash cs5.5 and out of nowhere it stopped responding. So I quit and turned it back on again. Okay, it loaded fine, the screen came up, prompting me to create a new file or open one. I tried opening my old file and Flash stopped responding. Worried that it might be a corruption in my file, I opened Flash up again, this time to try and create a new file. When I clicked Actionscript 3.0, the same thing happened. It stopped responding.
    I've tried a few differnet things. From rebooting the computer to deleting the preferences even to uninstalling and reinstalling. Nothing seems to fix this. Can anyone help me out? I would really appreciate it. Thank you.
    Here are my system specs:
    Windows 7 Home Premium
    Asus G73Sw Series
    i7-2630QM CPU 2.00 Ghz
    8GB ram
    64bit

    Oddly enough, I opened up Flash again, today, just to see if it was still the same, and it had worked. Everything seemed normal, I opened a new document and started working. Then, out of nowhere it stopped responding again. So I waited for it to respond, it didn't. I closed it from the task manager, and now it's back to the original problem of crashing when I try to create a new document or open an old ontrie
    Update: I tried the cleaner, as you'd suggested. Followed all the steps, but to no avail. Think it may have something to do with my machine, and less with the software?

  • Flash CS5 unable to play .FLV files on Macbook Pro

    I have a colleague who is trying to put together a Flash package for me  on her macbook pro.  It needs to play an flv file. She is unable to play  flv files on her computer either in Flash or using the Adobe Media  Player. I have no problem playing the same files on my macbook pro,  we're both running the latest OS and have version 1.8 of Adobe Media  Player.
    She went to the Adobe site to download the latest version of Adobe  Media Player, hoping that might include whatever component is missing on  her system. Because of Adobe's decision not to distribute AMP that  didn't help.  She has Flash Professional CS5 11.0.2 on her system.  When  she imports an flv video into a Flash project and tries to play it she  gets an error message saying it can't stream the video. Note that the  video is on her hard drive, it is NOT on the internet so no streaming  should be required.
    The actual error message is: "the video player is in the connection  error state. It enters this state when a video stream attempted to load  but was unsuccessful. There are two possible reasons for the error: no  connection to the server or the stream was not found."
    Since it's a file on her hard drive, and she has loaded the file  into the Adobe development environment successfully, the one thing we  know for certain is that neither of these reasons is correct. Something  is obviously missing on her system, what is it and what can we do to fix  it?

    I'm getting error too (Error #2044: Unhandled NetStatusEvent:. level=error, code=NetStream.Play.StreamNotFound). I'm getting this with CS5. This file was previously made in CS4 and never got this error.
    Everything (fla and flv too) is on external hard disk.
    As this work requires to be exported to mov, I've found out that everything needs to be on the mac (don't know for pc), like on desktop.
    So, let me wrap up disadvantages I got with Flash CS5:
    - TextField.embedFont makes the font disappear in CS5, so I can't use it, so I can't "play" with text in a comfortable way (in CS4, with embedFont = true, I was able to rotate and stuff). Now I have to make a bitmap out of it. It means 3 lines of code and a new variable, instead of just an easy one.
    - I have to rebuild my entire source path structure for AS classes, as my old one (that took me years of effort to be reasonable and used to work just fine in CS4).
    - I have to move stuff from my hard drive to the desktop, to make flv be played and to make a mov out of my animation.
    CS5 is making my job harder and making me lose a lot of time to find out errors that have no good reason to exist (it was not error. just "place CS5 doesn't like").

  • Flash CS5 Crashing when opening a specific .fla file

    I just upgraded from Flash Professional CS4 to CS5.  Everything seemed to be working fine. After upgrading, I started working on a project I had been creating in CS4 on the new CS5.  The file opened originally and I worked on it in the new CS5.  My swf works and the video plays.  All of the external swf files I load in to the Index swf work great.  They were created in the new CS5.  I can open the external swf, .fla files without any problem.  But when I open the one Index file that was created in CS4, Flash CS5 crashes saying there was an unexpected error. I have uninstalled and installed flash several times.  I have tried deleting the com.adobe.flash.plist file and restarting.  Nothing has worked.  I am really afraid I'm going to lose this file and all the work put in to it.  Can anyone help me with some ideas to troubleshoot this?  Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

    You're still using 12.0.0, and the current version is 12.0.2.
    That looks like a font related crash fixed a while back.

  • Flash CS5 Button Help

    To start, I'm a total newbie in Flash, so I'm sorry if what I'm asking is ridiculously primitive, but I was literally thrown into this blindfolded and I'm using google and several forums to help me out.
    What I'm doing:  redesigning a website.  At the moment, the website has a flash file that introduces it's logo and subcategories of its' website on the top of the page.  What I wanted to do was make sure there was a hyperlink on the logo that would bring anyone back to the homepage, very basic stuff.  The issue I have run into is that the logo is actually a flash movie.  Different parts of the logo appear at different times, and I think this is what is specifically causing me issues.
    The logo that I want to hyperlink has several layers, and what I've done so far is select them all and create a button (F8, select 'Button' and rename it).  When I did that, I noticed the layers significantly changed and when I tested the movie, it looks terrible, choppy and not how it originally looked.
    I know the step after that is to go into behaviors and insert the url to which I want it to be hyperlinked.  The only thing is that I don't want to show a terrible flash movie to my boss even if it's hyperlinked to the homepage.
    Anyone understand all that gibberish I wrote down?  Or does anyone see a flaw in what I'm doing?  I'm not 100% positive if the steps I'm taking are correct, I've been to several different sites, all of which tell me to do different things.
    Initially I tried coding it with ActionScript, but I was having terrible issues with that as well.
    If it helps, the file I'm working on was altered a while back.  Could it be that the file is not compatible or proper for Flash CS5?
    Help!!!

    ... how do I give that shape/button a url?
    Since it is a button, it is already a self animating object that will react to mouse interactions, but only visually at this stage.  The first thing you need to do to make it useful code-wise is to assign it a unique instance name.  So you drag a copy of it out to the stage from the library, and while it's still selected, you enter that unique instance name for it in the Properties panel... let's say you name it "btn1"
    In AS3, to make a button work with code, you need to add an event listener and event handler function for it.  You might need to add a few (for different events, like rollover, rollout, clicking it, but for now we'll just say you want to be able to click it to get a web page to open.  In the timeline that holds that button, in a separate actions layer that you create, in a frame numbered the same as where that button exists, you would add the event listener:
    btn1.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, btn1Click);
    The name of the unique function for processing the clicking of that button is specified at the end of the event listener assignment, so now you just have to write that function out:
    function btn1Click(evt:MouseEvent):void {
       var url:String = "http://www.awebsite.com/awebpage.html";
       var req:URLRequest = new URLRequest(url);
       navigateToURL(req);
    ... how do I know it's properly placed on the correct area?
    What area?  If you place it where you want it, that should be correct. (?)
    ... how do I make sure it's invisible...?
    If you can't see it when you test the file and you know it's there and your cursor turns into  a hand when you are over where it should be, it's invisible.
    ...how do I see the other objects in the flash file I'm working on?
    Select Edit -> Edit Document to get out of the symbol editing mode and back to the file editing mode.  If you doubleclick an object on the stage, rather than clickingit in the library, you open it up in editing mode on the stage, but the stage and everything else will still be visible behind it in a faded tone.

  • [Flash CS5.5 / Air 2.6] Movieclips not showing when .air app is run on Mac

    Hello,
    I created an application in Flash CS5.5 using Adobe Air 2.6. When I test the app on my computer (where it was written) everything works fine. When I publish the application and run the .AIR on my computer everything works fine as well. The issues comes about when I attempt to install and run my AIR application on a Mac operating system. In this case when the application runs some graphics are visible while some aren't. Some movieclips/buttons are visible while others aren't. One example of this is the buttons. None of the buttons in the entire application are visible. When the user clicks the area where the button should be the button click event is fired and the app acts accordingly (i.e. the main menu button which can't be seen still sends the user to the main menu). What could be the problem?
    I had thought of just converting the application to strictly Flash without AIR but I require AIR for the file system api as well as a couple other api components.
    Thank you in advance,
    Noah

    Hi Noah,
    I don't think I've run across this before.  I'd be willing to give it a try on my system if you'd like (you can email me at [email protected]).  Though I suspect this is a project specific issue, it also can't hurt to open this as a new bug over at bugbase.adobe.com.

  • Flash CS5 will not open!

    I downloaded adobe cs5 from my school's website and everything downloaded on my mac correctly. But when I go to open up any product (specifically flash cs5),it looks like its about to open but then automatically closes! I don't know what to do! Help!

    OS X has two Applications: one in your user folder and the other at the top of the volume. Applications are installed in /Applications, and you should use the user folder for applications that you are going to open in your account only, and not in another one.
    Open Java Preferences and install it

  • Flash CS5.5: Loading XML-file causes a "Security Sandbox Violation"

    Hi,
    after upgrading from CS3 to CS5.5, i get a "Security Sandbox Violation" when loading a XML-file. With CS3 everything was fine, but now my file is not working any more. The XML-file and my SWF-file are stored in the same directory and it nether work local nor on the webserver.
    I don't know the correct message in english, but flash tells me something like:
    "Security Sandbox Violation"
    access to file:[]data.xml disconnent - not allowed from file:[]myfile.swf
    Why am I not allowed to load an XML-file from the same directory/domain any more? And how can I get my data into my flash-File now?
    It doesn't seems to be a Flash-Player-Problem, because an older version with the same code still works. So the problem has to be located in Flash CS5.5
    Can anybody help me? Thanks a lot!
    Sonja

    Please ask such questions on the product specific forums. It is highly doubtful that anyone wil lsee it here.

  • Flash CS5.5 - font outlines still get embeded while using runtime sharing

    I have a project where I use several SWFs and have the fonts outlines stored into a seperate SWF. Within the .fla file's I have checked the Import for runtime sharing with the various font definitions.
    In the library the linkage part shows for every font the Import: classname
    To get a correct idea how things look within the IDE, I've checked several character ranges within the font properties so the preview renders correctly.
    In Flash CS5 everything was working correctly; no font outline was included within the SWF. The size report also shows this.
    When I create the SWF with Flash CS5.5 font outlines of the selected ranges still get embedded into the SWF. The file size of the SWF is much larger and the font outline information shows up in the size report.
    Anyone has a solution for this problem?

    I've just stepped into the same problem. Quick analysis of SWF content showed that all "import" tags have been removed and replaced by "font" tags (sometimes empty (empty - meaning no glyphs are there), sometimes not). I am publishing SWFs for Flash 8/ AS 2.0, thus, the SWFs should be FULLY compatible with old players. Technically speaking, importing of fonts is totally busted in CS5.5 and makes the CS5.5 completely unusable for us.
    Seems VERY much like a nasty bug. I am going to play a bit more with it in order to find a workaround. If not - I'll go back to CS5. I really hope Adobe will fix this bug ASAP. I have submitted a bug report about this issue.
    A bit more info about repro the issue: create font.fla and export font $Font from it. Create the second fla (main.fla) that imports the font $Font from  the font.swf. Publish all the swfs. Look inside the main.swf and instead of "ImportAsset" tag for font you'll see the regular "Font" tag (like it was never imported). However, the "ExportAsset" tag exists in font.swf and it looks completely fine.

  • Using .swc in Flash CS5

    I have a user who is having trouble using my library .swc in flash CS5.
    I do not have CS5 to help him out much; but the .swc does work fine with mxmlc from the Flex SDK, as well as under flashdevelop using the Flex SDK. And although not this exact version of the .swc I have previously found it work fine under CS4 and have other users with CS3 who do not have any trouble.
    under mxmlc, using the compiler options:
    --include-libraries $(NAPE_BIN)/debug_nape.swc
    There are no issues, and everything works as expected.
    The error my user is receiving is about an undefined reference to a specific class contained in the .swc (DummyNapeMain)
    This error appears also with mxmlc if I use the option --library-path instead of --include-libraries
    I repeat the test case here if it will help to find a working configuration for CS5.

    Thank you.

    I downloaded a CS5.5 trial to test this out myself.
    The error does indeed happen with the test case;
    my user found a hack to get around the error which is to do:
    DummyNapeMain;
    (just like that) to force the compiler to include it from the .swc and prevent the error occuring.
    Why is there no way in Flash CS5/5.5 to have the entire .swc included without flash trying (and failing) to determine what does, and doesn't need to be included?
