Flash cs5 backward compatibile with flash cs4

Hello there
Can anyone tell if cs5 flash is backward compatible?
Thanks

The correct word from Ned Murphy answer is 'in theory'. As actually there are lots of bugs when working with cs4 files in cs5:
a. compiler works incorrectly and sometimes throws compile errors where cs4 compiles the same file correctly with no errors; and these issues concern not some 'reserved words' or classes that are omited in cs4, but rather as simple and unexpected elements as movie clips names, etc.
b. when saving FLA file with embedded fonts in cs4 format fonts may include all outlines even though you may select just a few sets; so it may result in compiled SWF with quite huge size (imagine embedding all unicode Arial and Times fonts - that would take about 500 kb on fonts only).
c. one time I had a bug with one graphic asset being replaced with another after compilation; that was I spent about two crazy hours finding out what causes this strange bug and couldn't - after restarting Flash the bug was eliminated in the same strange way.
And that may be not the full list as Flash CS5 has some serious problems with Library - it causes lots of crashes.

  • Does Flash CS5 (AS3) come with more components than CS4 (AS3)?

    Hi all.
    Bit of a background to my question- I started learning AS3 around June last year (with no prior Flash experience). I was mainly interested in learning Flash for my own knowledge and personal projects I had in mind. Lately though I've been considering getting employed as a Flash developer, but most companies seem to be asking for AS2 experience, as well as AS3. So I fired up CS4 this morning and took a look at AS2. Probably the most surprising thing I found was that CS4 has a whole bunch more components for AS2 than it does for AS3, making me want to drop AS3 and work with AS2 permanently lol (the built in components make my life so much easier, and offer me more than faster execution does). I'm assuming the reason for this is because AS2 has been around for while, and Adobe has had more time to build more components for it, whereas AS3 is only relatively new.
    So to conclude, does CS5 have more AS3 components (perhaps equal to AS2), or do we only have the same components as we had in CS4?
    <3 components lol.
    Thanks guys.

    Flash CS5:
         ActionScript 3 - 3 categories (Flex, User Interface, Video). 33 components in total.
         ActionScript 2 - 3 categories (Media, User Interface, Video). 36 components in total.
    Flash CS4:
         ActionScript 3 - 2 categories (User Interface, Video) 31 components in total.
         ActionScript 2 - 4 categories (Data, Media, User Interface, Video) 25+ components in total.
    Sorry that I don't know how exactly how many components are in Flash CS4 AS2. Couldn't find enough images (I don't have CS4, I use CS5).
    Anyway, I think that Flash CS4 AS2 has the most components, with the most categories. However, whether you should use CS5 or CS4 and AS3 or AS2/AS1 really depends on, not how many components are available, but what you need. Chances are some components you will never touch. Also, sometimes you will need a new feature only in Flash CS5, or be asked by your future employer to write an application in the other scripting language.
    So really, it depends what you think. If I were you, I would download a trial of both CS4 and CS5, and play around, see which option you like the most. Oh, and be prepared to be forced to use another option by your employer at some stage.
    Hope it helps

  • Flash CS5 location conflict with dreamweaver

    upon instaling flash CS5 is not allowing me to save changes i made on dreamweaver.  there is this msg saying it will stop my dreamweaver communicating from a remote location and when i click on settings, it does nothing.  it stop me from updating my website. did some reasearch, many place suggest to go on to the adobe  website storage settings panel.  not sure how to use it but it seems like i have to entrust every single page of my website to the list as a trusted site in order for it to work.  and i test it on one page and it didnt seems do anything.

    My two A's '(Apple and Flash CS5) stopped  struggling. It had nothing to do with Indesign... it was  just a problem of permissions. Why it happened I do not know. The only constatation I  dare to make is... Guys from Adobe... you put the right diagnosis... thank you,thank you  very much....
    Permissions that's all!!

  • Flash MX2004 not compatable with Flash CS5?

    I have Flash MX2004 but find when trying to open a flash file created using Flash

    file fotrmat'. Please explain

    flash mx2004 is very old. it has no way of knowing what to do with a file that is created in cs5 or aka flash mx2010
    it is similar to trying to play a blu ray disc in a vcr... sort of.

  • Flash cs5 Timeline tools with MAC

    I have learned from a video tutorial (Flash CS5 in the Family 23: Banner Ad Part 1)
    to use the F5 key to set the length of a time line of a particular image.
    When using the F5 key on the MAC keyboard, it will only allow for the audio to be worked with.
    I've tried Apple+F5, Option+F5, Ctrl+F5 etc.
    What am I missing?

    click edit/keyboard shortcuts and create your own shortcuts or, even easier, right click over the timeline (or anything else in flash) to see a context menu that will let you do what you want.

  • Flash builder 4.6 with Flash CS5.5 mobile work flow

    I have a mobile application built in flash professional. For captive runtime or native extensions i use the command line.
    I now want to start using flash builder, as i hear this is the undisputed better coding environment.
    In flash builder, i created a 'flash professional project' to work on my app with both tools simultaneously.
    I thought flash builder 4.6 would give me options like captive runtime or native extensions without using the command line.
    However i dont see these options at all. When i am using a 'flash professional project' in flash builder, am i essentially just using flash builder as a code editor, and all export settings are still handled in flash IDE ? Meaning i cannot take advantage of captive runtime+ ANEs unless using an 'actionscript mobile project'
    Please advise.
    Also, even if i use it as just a better code editor, i am not finding it better so far.
    syntax highlighting seems poor
    simple things like touch events.
    function parameters or inside the function like e.touchPointID , e.stageX
    none of this is highlighted.
    or as simple as
    ball.x;
    the .x would normally be highlighted, but it is not in flash builder.
    Basically, i am finding as a tool to use with flashIDE as a flash professional project, so far i am seeing no benefits. Please help me to discover what i am missing about this editing environments mobile work flow.
    also when i hit ctrl+s to save my work, it jumps between the two programs... saving the project i suppose? hard to just quickly save as you go in case of crashes and such.
    (using winsows 7)
    thanks

  • Firefox Freezed by Fullscreen Flash Video (and trouble with Flash Video Settings)

    I have a desktop computer with integrated nvidia graphics card and a notebook with integrated ati graphics card.
    Both use Linux with Firefox 3.0.8 with Flash Player 10.22
    If I use fullscreen in laptop(ati) no problem at all. In the desktop station(nvidia) if it is an embed video firefox freezes completely and I have to kill firefox. If I go to the original website of the video, no problem at all.
    Wanted to try to deactivate hardware acceleration as stated in some forums, but no luck. Both computers when I right click a select settings, window opens but I can't do nothing at all, not even close them. I can only close (normaly) firefox to reopen it.

    As it turns out, Skype also crashes if I try to use video - so I'm forced to confront the possibility that the problem is actually with my PC, or the updates windows has just installed.

  • Flash 8 Documents created with Flash 9 *Solved

    I have an issue with opening Flash 8 Documents that have been
    created with Flash 9.
    When I created a new file in Flash 9 and save it as a Flash 8
    Document we are unable to open the file on a computer with just
    Flash 8. I have both Flash 8 and 9 installed and can view it fine
    in Flash 8.
    Is there something that is installed with Flash 9 that would
    explain this, or is there something more to this issue?

    I do it all the time without any problems. What error message
    do you get?
    Can you open this test file:
    http://www.johnkalnin.com/flashhelp/CS3toFlash8.fla
    I created it in Flash CS3 and Saved as Flash 8. It opened
    fine in Flash 8 for me.
    Are you making sure you are creating a AS 2.0 file in CS3 and
    not AS3.0?

  • Swfobject_modified.js giving Erroneous UPDATE FLASH warning in IE9 with flash 11 installed

    I've created a page:
    http://www.waterskimmer.com/waterskimmervideo.html
    [Initially, I had named the flv Revolutionary-Waterskimmer-HQ.flv. The video wouldn't load. Paths correct. Tried renaming the file to vid6.12.flv and it worked. So, a side note is that embedding FLV files with Dreamweaver might have issues when you have a long, hyphenated name as I did.]
    The FLV plays well on most browsers. However, in testing it on my own computer, it loads with the Adobe Flash Player update warning despite the fact that I've updated the flash (unnecessarily, I think because it certainly wasn't lower than v6).
    It's at v11 now and it's still getting the error (update your Flash Player) message.
    Any ideas on a resolution. Don't really want to delete the warning.
    Kristi

    Hi,
    Sorry, I could not reproduce the issue.
    I was able to preview page in Live View with an FLV video file named Revolutionary-Waterskimmer-HQ.flv embedded in it. I have Flash Player ActiveX 11.3.300.257 on my system.
    Can you please try unistalling the Flash Player plugin and installing it again. You can use the following link to know which version of Flash player is currently installed.

  • Flash player 10.1 with Flash Builder 4

    How do you configure Flash Builder 4 to use Flash Player 10.1 debugger?
    I tried this:
    http://blogs.adobe.com/jasonsj/2010/03/targeting_flash_player_101_beta_in_flash_builder_4. html
    And it doesn't work: It still launches flash player 10.0.x. I ran the flash player uninstaller and reinstalled flash player 10.1 rc5 debug version. Still no luck.
    Thanks,
    Trevor

    2 tricks to try:
    1) Remote debug by URL, see http://blogs.adobe.com/jasonsj/2010/05/debug_tricks_remote_debug_with_conditional_breakpoi nts.html
    2) Remote debug by URL=about:blank
    For option #2, launch a debug session for your project, but instead of specifying the live URL, type in about:blank. Then, right click in the player and choose "Debugger". Select "Connect to debugger" and localhost.

  • Backward compatability with Flash player

    Hey Guys,
    I've been creating a site using as3 in flash CS4, however my
    client has a large customer base that inludes people in large
    companies that dont have the latest flash drivers installed on
    their computers and dont have the admistrative privalidges to
    update the drivers themselves. After testing with a select few
    customers my client has foud that 50% of their clients are not able
    to view the site prototype. I have therefore attempted to publish
    the site setting the Flash player to 9 rather than 10, however when
    I test the site all the animated elements are frozen! If anyone has
    an idea how to resolve these issues I'm all ears :D
    Thanks in advance,
    Dave

    If you have used the newer tween techniques it will fail. You
    would need to go back and redo them as Classic Tweens.

  • Importing Flex project into Flash CS5 for use with iPhone packager? Please Help.

    Hi all,
    I have been developing an application in Flex builder for the iPhone using the iPhone packager, where I've been using the Flex framework.
    Now I'm stuck at trying to use my existing libraries in Flash. It seems I can't add the UI components I used in Flex (class VideoExample) to the default Flash container. I need someone's help who has experience with that.
    I have created a .SWC file, but when I'm trying to add the container in Flash using addChild(new VideoExample) it doesn't work. I can't load the .SWF externally using loader.load() at runtime, because the application is for iPhone. Any solutions how could I import the project to Flash?
    I was thinking about changing the UI components classes from mx.* to fl.*, but I would have to change many code and I'm not sure if it would even work, and I don't want to loose compatibility with mxml.
    Please respond, help would be very much appreciated!
    Here's my mxml wrapper, from which I start the main application:
    <?xml version="1.0"?>
    <mx:Application xmlns:mx="http://www.adobe.com/2006/mxml" layout="absolute" applicationComplete="EntryPoint.main()">
    </mx:Application>
    Then I have a class which creates the main container:
    package {
    import mx.core.*;
    public class EntryPoint {
        public static function main():void {
            var client:VideoExample = new VideoExample();
            var mxmlApp:Application = Application(Application.application);
            mxmlApp.addChild(client);
    Here is the main class VideoExample:
    package {
    import mx.controls.*;
    import mx.containers.*;
    public class VideoExample extends Canvas {
        public function VideoExample() {
            super();
            init();
            private function init():void {
            loadImage();
            loadText();
                    loadDisplay();
                    startConnection();

  • Flash CC not compatible with Flash 6 (buggy swfs)?

    I recently started a new animation job and the entire studio is using Flash 6. I wanted to get some extra work done at home, so I bought Flash CC under the assumption that I could use the files again at work. I completed a scene over the weekend, no issues, brought it in to the studio this morning and the file refuses to export a swf. As soon as I attempt to test the scene, Flash freezes for a good ten minutes, and the .swf eventually comes up lacking all tweens and some keys, with symbols missing colours and parts, and once the .swf is closed, the .fla now has all of the same issues (tweens gone, symbols messed up). Before exporting the .swf, the file looks just as it should. All tweens are there, all symbols look fine, the thing scrubs perfectly. The act of exporting the .swf seems to be what causes the issue.
    Studio tech guy suggested it might have something to do with CC's publish settings, but I'm looking at them now and they're the same (with the exception of Actionscript 3).
    I further tested the scene in my old CS 5.5 Flash and it worked flawlessly in that. Only 6 seems to be having issues.
    Any thoughts?

    That's correct. All that's being done is pretty basic symbol animation. Tweens, eases, a lot of symbols within symbols for easy switching of parts. What confuses me most is that it opens fine in CS5.5. What features might CS6 have/not have to completely break the file?
    I also attempted to re-save the file in CS5.5 and then try opening it in CS6. This killed the program. Didn't even get as far as exporting a swf. All of my tools disappeared, all assets were corrupted, and the program just went on an endless loop of thinking and freezing.

  • Cannot view Flash 8 file online with Flash 7 Player

    I have content on the site made in both flash player 7 and 8
    (simple text animation). The newer content which is just a text
    animation is not showing up for my users who are using flash player
    7 (it loads blank/white, and you can right click to play/loop etc -
    but it doesnt do anything), while it shows up fine for those using
    flash player 8. Im sure they could install player 8, but why would
    this not work on player 7? Id rather it stay backward compatible.
    Am I doing something wrong?
    Any problems with this, fixes or advice?
    Thanks!

    Well .. DERRRRRR
    Of course Flash 8 content will not show in Flash Player 7.
    If you want to support Flash Player 7, then you need to
    publish for Flash
    Player 7 (or earlier).
    This is called common sense.

  • Flash CS5 and updating to flash 10.3 and AIR 2.7

    Hi, I have a simple question, but for the life of me I can't work out how to solve it.
    I'm currently running Adobe Flash Professional CS5, and would like to update it to utilize some of the features in AIR 2.7 and Flash 10.3 / Flash 10.2. How do I do this?
    I encountered a similar problem a ways back when AIR 2 was being released, and I had to resort to ultimately "overlay" the existing installations. I've looked around and found some similar third party resources pertaining to the latest updates, but I've failed to get them to work - some instructions for adding in 10.3 as a build target compile, but they don't seem to be running in 10.3, or the debug player is not running in 10.3.
    Am I missing something really obvious? I'd think that when a major release is made, it should be straightforward to update your version of CSx to target that release, but it's anything but. I found the release notes for Flash 10.3(http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/901/cpsid_90194.html#main_authoring), and under authoring it says:
    "Developers can access new APIs in the Flash Player 10.3 by making manual changes to their existing SDK/tooling configuration. To learn more about the new APIs, read the online ActionScript 3 reference documentation. Adobe Flash Professional CS5.5, Flash Builder 4.5, and Flex SDK 4.5 will not be updated for the new runtime."
    Where can I find the manual changes required? And why do these releases require manual overlaying anyway?

    Thanks for the reply.
    After alot of messing around I managed to get Flash professional to have 10.3 as a target, and also managed to get a 10.3 version of the debugger to run when you select Debug Movie(Running Test Movie, which is what I usually do, still uses the original 10.1 player, and I can't find out how to update it). I'm not sure if it's buggy or I've done it wrong, because when targeting it to 10.3 and running my application through the 10.3 debugger, I seem to be loosing frame labels in some of my movie clips, getting an error:
    ArgumentError: Error #2109: Frame label off not found in scene off
    This is odd, because
    a) I don't get said error when running with Test Movie which uses a 10.1 version of the player, and I never had it before with other versions. The symbol triggering the error clearly has a frame labeled off
    b) There is no scene off in my project, I only have one scene which was the default, and it's called Scene 1.
    Doing some traces, it turns out that the object is not having it's frame labels read in the 10.3 player, which is very odd and indicates to me some kind of bug or incorrect installation, but since I get the exact same error running it under the 10.3 projector, I'm inclined to think bug .
    With regards to AIR 2.7, why do we need CS5.5 to use it?
