Flash CS5: Slow to save files

Is anyone else finding it very slow to save files in Flash CS5? I've gotten in the habit of saving often, probably from dealing with CS4 being so unstable. It's now habit that I hold down command and hit S then Return every time I test a movie. Yet with CS5, saving a file is no longer immediate. I'm on an 8-core Mac Pro with 12GB RAM, working with a 60MB FLA, and it takes at least 7 seconds to save the file, complete with progress bar. This may not sound like a lot, but if I -- make a change / save the file / test the movie -- and repeat that over and over again, those seconds add up. It's odd because CS4 saved files so fast it didn't need a progress bar and I never noticed a delay.
I suppose one solution is to get over my CS4 fears and not save as often, but I don't quite have that level of confidence yet!
Is this happening to everyone or just me?

Hi Stiv41,
I would say that there might be some case where saving a file in CS5 could take a bit longer, but it really depends what you have inside your file. This is especially true if you import lots of assets inside your document. With the introduction of XFL, we are now importing the asset but also saving a copy of that asset inside the document structure. Having that extra copy could take a bit longer to save, but you have now the ability to share the document along with all the assets, and those assets can be edited very easily.
Note that usually the first save is going to be a little slower, but subsequent saves should be much faster. The first time we need to create the XFL document structure, but on subsequent we try to only save what has changed. Of course sometimes we'll need to resave the entire document depending on what changed.
Also saving as Uncompressed should not make much of a difference at all.
Finally I would say that a 60 meg Fla file is fairly large. I mean if you have 60 megs of drawing that one thing, but 60 megs worth of assets you might want to consider linking them instead. Since you probably want to publish a small swf.
-Valerio.

  • Flash CS5 can't save CS4 files

    I keep a copy of CS3 around just so I can be productive... CS4 takes 10 to 20 seconds between timeline edits for the screen to un-freeze.
    I had hoped CS5 would resolve this because I would like to and need to use the Flash Player 10 classes... But NO!, it is completely useless in a production environment because you can't even save your work without jumping through hoops!!!  I work with aproximatly 20 designers and we have thousands of CS3 files that get updated in over 40 live sites. This product is not ready and it is very disappointing that Adobe would release it like this. The only way I can save any of these files is to save as a CS4.

    Hi Greg,
    Thanks for emailing me your FLA file so we could investigate.  It looks like one of your assets is corrupted.  This file crashes even in Flash CS4 when I drag sparks.jpg to the stage.
    Flash CS5 crashes more quickly because it tries to validate this asset on save but can't because that asset is corrupted.  If you remove sparks.jpg from the library, you can save the file in Flash CS5.

  • Illustrator CS5: Slow to save documents

    Hi! I'm Christ, new to Adobe forums!
    We have someone using Illustrator CS5, and working with file from 10mb to 500mb, most of the time. The problem is that, when you open, okay it's slow since it's a file over the network (400mb), but when you save it, network or not, it is VERY but VERY slow. I mean, you click on save, then save the file, then Illustrator does the program not responding, then you wait, about 15s, and the little window that show the progress comes up. You wait after this progress bar for like 30-40s. It does the same thing, kind same time, for a 100mb file.
    One of my friend told me he has the same problem, but he never had that problem with CS2 illustrator.
    Our computer:
    Intel E8400 3ghz
    4gb of RAM
    HDD 160gb 7200rpm
    Windows XP SP3 up to date (we did try on the same machine, but with a windows 7, same problem)
    Friend computer:
    AMD Athlon II X4 635 2.9ghz
    4gb of RAM
    HDD 500gb 7200rpm
    Windows XP SP3 up to date (Does on 2 computer with same spec) (on CS2, was not that long, with a AMD Athlon X2 4200+, and 3gb of ram)
    Any help is appreciated!
    Many Thanks
    Christ

    It works.
    I tried it, and it is much faster.
    Many thanks!

  • Flash CS5.5: Loading XML-file causes a "Security Sandbox Violation"

    Hi,
    after upgrading from CS3 to CS5.5, i get a "Security Sandbox Violation" when loading a XML-file. With CS3 everything was fine, but now my file is not working any more. The XML-file and my SWF-file are stored in the same directory and it nether work local nor on the webserver.
    I don't know the correct message in english, but flash tells me something like:
    "Security Sandbox Violation"
    access to file:[]data.xml disconnent - not allowed from file:[]myfile.swf
    Why am I not allowed to load an XML-file from the same directory/domain any more? And how can I get my data into my flash-File now?
    It doesn't seems to be a Flash-Player-Problem, because an older version with the same code still works. So the problem has to be located in Flash CS5.5
    Can anybody help me? Thanks a lot!

    Please ask such questions on the product specific forums. It is highly doubtful that anyone wil lsee it here.

  • Flash CS5.5 Auto Save Issues

    Alright, I've been having this annoying issue with flash. Flash auto saves my project every 10 minutes, but, I would rather have flash save every thirty minutes. This can be very aggravating, because, when every I return to use flash It is saving. When I am in a rhythm working on a project flash interrupts me to autosave.
    Autosave is great in that It has saved me having to redo work, but, I would rather choose to save when I am ready.
    I tried to change the auto-recovery setting to a different amount of time. FlashPreferences>General>Auto-Recovery
    This does not work. Flash will continue to save every 10 min.
    Any thoughts or solutions would be appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

  • Flash CS5 Slow Start up and crash on Snow Leopard

    Hello,
    I'm using a new Mac Pro with Snow Leopard. We have Adobe MC CS5.
    I'm experiencing serious problems with Flash CS5. The program locks up at "Initializing Tools" for several minutes at start up. Once the program opens it will crash if I try to create a blank document. Other Adobe programs work fine.
    Flash CS4 worked fine on this computer.
    Anyone have any ideas on how to fix this? I've tried uninstalling and deleting all adobe documents from the configuration folders. It just seems like this machine is cursed or something.
    I've noticed other people have had this same problem on both Mac and Windows machines. Any help from Adobe?
    Thanks,
    David

    I figured it out. For me the problem was my very large font library existing in both the user font folder and the system library font folder. Once I deleted the duplicate Fonts from my user library Flash returned to normal. Everything works great now.

  • Flash CS5 doesn't save advanced color effects on symbols

    In CS4 I'm used to inverting instances of my symbols by using a color effect:
    Style: Advanced
    Red: -100%  xR  +255
    Green: -100%  xG  +255
    Blue: -100%  xB  +255
    However, everytime I save these settings in a CS5 file, upon opening the settings have changed to:
    Red: 0%  xR  +255
    Green: 0%  xG  +255
    Blue: 0%  xB  +255
    Has anyone else had this problem? I'm on mac OSX with the 10.0.2 update installed.

    Had a couple students encounter the same issue.
    They had complex animations of graphic forms made from overlapping white and black pieces. Setting the blending mode to multiply allowed them to overlap the animation on top of imagery. Alternately some people needed to invert the black to white and blendmode:screen it onto darker textures and colors.
    This is easily accomplished through advanced color effect by multiplying everything by -100% and then offsetting by 255.
    Unfortunately these values aren't saved...
    You can use some code to do it, but this will get in the way of any timeline tweening. Our workaround was to drop any secondary animations of the graphic animation in a container and use code to modify _that_ clip.
    import flash.geom.ColorTransform;
    var ct = new ColorTransform();
    ct.redMultiplier = -1;
    ct.greenMultiplier = -1;
    ct.blueMultiplier = -1;
    ct.redOffset = 255;
    ct.greenOffset = 255;
    ct.blueOffset = 255;
    myClip.transform.colorTransform = ct;
    There might be another way around this that I missed, but it's a bummer that user entered values with observable and useful results aren't saved.

  • Dreamweaver CS5 Slow to Open File... Enable Related Files

    Hello,
    I have a page that uses the Fancybox script and it takes Dreamweaver 50 seconds to open this page.
    This script requires jQuery, so in the head of my page I have this:
    <script type="text/javascript" src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.4.2.min.js"></script>
    If I comment that line out, the page opens immediately. Also, if I disable "Enable Related Files", the page opens immediately... neither option is a good one of course.
    It's my guess that dreamweaver is retrieving and parsing the remote jQuery file which is what is slowing things down. How to I stop dreamweaver from going after remote files???
    I was hoping setting "Discover Dynacially-Related Files" to "Disabled" would do the trick, but trying that has led me to another problem that I posted in a different topic which is that Dreamweaver won't save the selection for "Discover Dynamically-Related Files". That option always returns to "Manually".
    Any ideas how to stop dreamweaver from retrieving remote files?
    Thanks!
    Peter

    Im on a mac with CS5 and I have started getting an issue with one of my sites where it is slow to open the files. I tried following the steps in the article you attached here but I can not find that preference file at  /Users/Your User Name/Library/Preferences. In fact, I don't have a library under /users/my name.
    I can open files fine on a different site, but for some reason just this one is giving me trouble.

  • Photoshop CS5 slow to save .psd

    Hello!
    Im running a 6.2. Macbook Pro with 2.4GHz i5 and 8gb of RAM.
    The problem is, that whenever I save a .psd file it takes awfully long time for the "Writing photoshop format"-bar to progress. For example an image from my dslr with only few layers (photoshop shows the document size to be under 700mb) it can take almost a minute.
    This is pretty frustrating when saving a file between steps of editing -  it really disturbs my workflow. The funny thing is, that it doesnt seem to have any meaning whether I have the file on a external drive or the laptops drive. So I dont think it's the drive's fault, I could always be mistaken.
    I dont experience these problems when using older Imac's at our school running CS5 - with them the save-command is always instant. I also never remember waiting so long for saving to happen with previous Photoshop versions.
    What gives? How should I configure this to be bearable or is this how it actually works?
    Already tried:
    - Re-Installing CS5 (also using the CS5 CleanUp utility)
    - Defragmenting my laptops harddrive (restoring the os from time-machine)
    - Setting the option for "Maximize .psd and .psb file compatibility" to "never"
    - Trying out different memory usage settings (just randomly testing different values - doesnt seem to make a difference)
    - Trying out different history & Cache settings
    - Disabling GPU usage
    - Trying different Scratch disks (external with FW800 and also making a partition on my Macbook HD (I know it isnt supposed to help if its on the same physical drive))
    - All updates are installed (CS5 & OSX)
    Is something wrong or is a i5 macbook pro with 8gb of memory slower to do this than a core2duo Imac from 2008 with 4gb of memory. Or Am I just looking at the wrong things.

    There is probably nothing wrong with your install or your computer.
    large layered photoshop files (afaik) (PSD and PSB) use heavy lossless compression that is not very fast and single-threaded... almost all of my files save at a relatively slow rate of 8MB/s (on a fully stuffed mac pro) due to the "compression). try flattening your files... they should write then at almost full HD speed. alternatively, as long as your files are below 2/4GB, save them as layered TIFF files with little/no compression... much faster than PSD. (but also check your system/PS memory usage... if you encounter heavy system swap and PS swap at the same time, your computer will also become very slow).

  • Flash CS5 slow and not working properly

    Dear all,
    I have a serious problem on my machine.
    Some months ago I bought Master Collection CS5 and worked fine without problem with Flash and Flex.
    Last week I took a virus and I need to format and re-install my pc.
    After that I re-installed Master Collection but now, Flash is veeeeeeeeeeery slow and some functions doesn't work properly.
    for example, if I open a fla file (made before format) and I try to align a symbol on the stage, it doesn't works!!! it makes nothing! I click on the button and nothing happens!
    I already try to uninstall and re-install but the problem persist.
    The configuration is the same that i had before format, I only updatet my antivirus to Avast 5, but I don't think that's the problem.
    My configuration is this:
    Notebook HP Pavillion DV6 2056el
    Intel i720
    4Gb DDR3
    nVidia 1Gb
    500Gb HD Sata2
    Someone can help me?
    Regards.

  • Flash CS5.5 Auto-Saves Even When Auto-Save is Turned Off In Preferences

    So I'm using Adobe Flash Professional CS5.5, and in the preferences, I have the "Auto-Recovery" set to "5 minutes", and it's turned OFF. However, about every minute or so, my projects auto-save. It's annoying because it freezes it for about 2 seconds. It's especially annoying when I'm in the middle of drawing something or doing something like that. It screws me up, and it's annoying. It's DEFINITLEY turned off, and it auto-saves for me still. Yes, I KNOW it's definitley auto-saving, because the asterisk (*) in the project title disappears after it's done loading for 2 seconds every minute. Help. Thanks.

  • [JS][CS5] Can't save file

    Hi,
    I'm trying to run the "HellWorld.jsx" example from the Adobe Scripting Guide lesson.
    I can never get passed the line highlighted in red below (saving the file as another name, in this case saving as "C:\HelloWorld.indd").
    I'm using Adobe ExtendScript Toolkit to run this code with InDesign CS5 as the target.
    The error message on the ExtendScript Toolkit is Cannot save "Untitled-1" under a new name.
    There is no log file to me to see what caused this error, so I don't know where to start troubleshooting this problem.
    I'm not sure this is the file access permission issue or not but I could write the file manually (created a file with a text editor and save the file with that name.)
    The code is copied straight from the Adobe InDesign scripting guide as you can see it below.
    //HelloWorld.jsx
    //Create a new document.
    var myDocument = app.documents.add();
    //Get a reference to the first page.
    var myPage = myDocument.pages.item(0);
    //Create a text frame.
    var myTextFrame = myPage.textFrames.add();
    //Specify the size and shape of the text frame.
    myTextFrame.geometricBounds = ["6p0", "6p0", "18p0", "18p0"];
    //Enter text in the text frame.
    myTextFrame.contents = "Hello World!";
    //Save the document (fill in a valid file path).
    myDocument.save(new File("C:\HelloWorld.indd"));
    //Close the document.
    app.documents.item(0).close();
    Any help or pointer to where I should look would be appreciated.

    hi
    just change this line myDocument.save(new File("C:\HelloWorld.indd"));
    myDocument.save(new File("/C/HelloWorld.indd"));

  • Acrobat 9 slow to save files

    I have Acrobat 9.3.2 Pro installed on a WinXP Pro computer. When I scan a document to create a pdf file and "save as"  it takes 2 -3 minutes to save a single page document when I'm logged in to a "user" level account. When I perform the same actions as an administrator the save is almost immediate. When logged in as a user when I select "save as" and give the file a name and hit enter I can see a pdf file icon appear in the file folder immediately but within about 15 seconds the Acrobat Menu bar blanks out and Acrobat is totally unresponsive until the file save is completed. Windows task manager doesn't show any cpu or memory problems (usually the cpu is only running 1 or 2% and system idle 98%).
    The stranger thing to me is that the program worked fine a couple of days ago. Anyone have any ideas. I tried giving the "user" account full control of Acrobat but that didn't change any thing.
    Anyone seen this one before?

  • Using Air 2.6 with Flash CS5

    hey there all,
    here is what i am doing so far to use Air 2.6 with Flash CS5. i counts seem to find any help online with this, hope this helps someone...
    Setting Up Flash CS5
    1. replace Program FIles\Adobe\Adobe Flash CS5\Common\Configuration\ActionScript 3.0\AIR2.0\airglobal.swc with the airglobal.swc in the AdobeAIRSDK\frameworks\libs\air folder of the AIR 2.6 SDK zip file (AdobeAIRSDK.zip)
    This lets you compile with the new SDK and use all the new API for camera roll, microphone, etc.
    2. replace Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash CS5\AIK2.0 with the AdobeAIRSDK folder in the zip file (AdobeAIRSDK.zip) you downloaded from Adobe.
    now you can do a test movie in Flash CS5 and it will use the new ADL for testing in Flash (finally works with landscape!).
    Publishing
    for publishing, unfortunately you cant use the built-in publish for iOS. i wrote this batch file and use it (also you can write an ant task if you use FDT/Flash Builder). This is for windows 64bit...
    "C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre6\bin\java" -jar C:\AdobeAIRSDK\lib\adt.jar -package -target ipa-ad-hoc -storetype pkcs12 -keystore [KEYFILE].p12 -storepass [KEY PASSWORD] -provisioning-profile [MOBILE PROVISION FILE].mobileprovision [IPA NAME].ipa [XML FILE NAME].xml [SWF FILE NAME].swf Icon_29.png Icon_48.png Icon_57.png Icon_72.png Icon_512.png Default-Landscape.png Default-Portrait.png Default-PortraitUpsideDown.png Default-PortraitLandscapeLeft.png Default-PortraitLandscapeRight.png
    i have a 64bit system so i had to specify the 32 bit JRE and use the ADT jar for packaging. now i just double-click the batch file and it compiles for iOS.
    Adjusting the app.xml File
    the yourapp-app.xml file needs some tweaks from the CS5 packager to work in 2.6:
    1. namespace has to change from
    <application xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/air/application/2.0">
    to
    <application xmlns="http://ns.adobe.com/air/application/2.6">
    2. the version node needs to be renamed versionNumber
    from
    <version>.5.572<</version>
    to
    <versionNumber>0.5.572</versionNumber>
    notice you need to include the leading zero if you arent using a whole number version
    ok, thats what i have so far, hope this helps...

    hey there all, for those on Windows,
    here is a compile script i put together for iOS using AIR 2.6. Copy and past this into a file named "compile ios.wsf". All you have to do is double-click and it will compile and paclage your app.
    the script assumes you have a versionNumber like: 0.4.123 it takes and incrememnts the build number (the last 3 numbers only) by one. i will imrpove this later.
    <?xml version="1.0" ?>
    <job>
    <script language="JScript">
         This file assumes you are using a 3-segment version system.
         It is not very inteligent, it just increments the last set of numbers in the
         versionNumber in the XML file by 1. !!be aware that it is not yet smart enough
         to update the second number!!

         // the location of your JRE/JDK and Air SDK files
         var JRE_BIN = "C:\\Progra~2\\Java\\jre6\\bin\\java";
         var ADT_JAR = "C:\\AdobeAIRSDK\\lib\\adt.jar";
         // this stuff shouldnt need to change
         var objXML = new ActiveXObject( "Microsoft.XMLDOM" );
         objXML.async = false;
         objXML.load(XML_FILE);
         var root = objXML.documentElement;
         var versionNumberNode = root.selectSingleNode("versionNumber");
         var versionNumberArray = versionNumberNode.text.split(".");
         var buildNumber = parseInt(versionNumberArray[2]) + 1;
         versionNumberNode.text = versionNumberArray[0] + "." + versionNumberArray[1] + "." + buildNumber;
         objXML.save(XML_FILE);
         var cShell = WScript.CreateObject("WScript.Shell");
         var compileCommand = '"' + cShell.CurrentDirectory + '\\compile ios.bat"';
         compileCommand = JRE_BIN + " -jar " + ADT_JAR + " -package -target " + TARGET + " -storetype pkcs12 -keystore " + KEY_FILE + " -storepass " + KEY_PASSWORD + " -provisioning-profile " + PROVISIONING_PROFILE + " " + IPA_FILE + " " + XML_FILE + " " + SWF_FILE + " " + ICONS + " " + SPLASH_SCREENS;
         //WScript.Echo(compileCommand);
         var runVal = cShell.run(compileCommand, 1, true);
    </script>
    </job>
    i will see if there's time to do a shell script of OSX and an ANT script for Eclipse...
