Flash Drive Doesn't work on new macbook

I just got a new macbook pro. I plugged in my flash drive I use on my other macbook. Normally when it connects it lights up. I plug it into the new mac and it doesn't light up or show anywhere on the computer.

Apple Care says it may be a bad hard drive and I should exchange the machine. However it was a special order, and it is a 6 week turnaround for a new machine. I use it for work, so that is a big issue.
If Apple offers you to exchange your machine and it is under warranty, by all means do it don't wait until your AppleCare expires.

  • After using TM My flash drive doesn't work on windows ! what should i do?

    Hi everyone !
i Bought My Macbook Pro 2 Days Ago And This Is The First Time That I'm Using A Mac.
today i tried to make a backup of my Mac Os and i thought maybe i could use my flash drive , so i connected it and i opened the TM and it asked me that it should erase my flash drive so it can back up the files on it , but after doing all that stuff i found out that my flash's capacity is not enough for a complete backup, but now i cant use it like i used to, and it doesn't show up on my windows ... now how can i make it work normal ?!

it doesn't show up on my windows ...
If you mean 'wndows computer'... You will need to go to your Applications/Utilities folder and run 'Disk Utility'.
Plug in the flash drive, locate it on the left and click on the name to select it.
Then erase/format it using MS-DOS. When done, close Disk Utility and eject the flash drive.
Check it for proper operation on a Windows machine.
You can also erase/format it on a Windows machine or in a digital camera, as an example.
You can also format it for Mac OS, but I recommend keeping it Windows format for compatibility.
    Good luck in any case.

  • 17" Cinema Display doesn't work with new MacBook Pro

I have used a 17" Cinema Display with a MacBook Pro without problems for the last year. I just bought a new MacBook Pro and a Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter. Hooked it up and no display. Reconnected to my olf MBP without the Mini DisplayPort to DVI Adapter and it still works great. Any thoughts?

I have the same machine and the same drive (for about 6 months) they work fine.
The first suspect is the internal SATA cable, replace it.

  • My flash drive doesn't work

When i inserted my flash drive in my mac it didn't pop up in my desktop like it always does instead it was like i didn't insert anything it worked in the morning i closed my laptop then took out my flash drive then i opened my laptop later and inserted the flash drive and it didn't work it doesn't even show on my finder what should i do? is my flash driver broken?

Choose Computer from the Finder's Go menu and see if it appears.
If it does, open the General tab of the Finder's preferences and check the box for it.
If it doesn't open the Disk Utility in the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and mount or repair it. If it doesn't show up there either, it's probably dead.

  • My exfat hard drive doesn't work on my macbook pro

It's the latest macbook pro. Bought yesterday!! Excited!! Thanks

    sorry.
It's a WD harddrive. I used to you it for my mac desktop. I have then had a pc laptop for a couple of years. I have had to use macdrive to allow this to work. I thought that when I would plug it into my macbook it should work fine.
It's now showing it is an exfat format. I have read reviews that this should work well on mac and windows?
To find the external harddrive on the mac I need to go to disk utilities and I can see it. It does not allow me to access what is on it though.
i'm trying to think of what I can do so I can use it on the mac book. If I copy it onto a different hardrive, then reformat it. How would I then get it back onto my mac?
Sorry. Hope that helps a little more? Thanks for your time.

  • MS Word crashed and now my USB/flash drive doesn't work.

My MS Word crashed and when it recovered I got an alert saying my USB was not ejected properly (even though I didn't eject or remove it). I then removed it and put it back in and now my MacBook Air won't read it at all, and when I try it on a Windows laptop it says the drive is empty.
Please help! It has all my uni files on it!
    Thanks so much.

Try plugging it into your MacBook and then repairing the disk permissions using Disk Utility.
Repairing a disk's permissions using Disk Utility.
Note: This should not delete any information or files from the disk.
Repairing a disk's permissions can help solve various file-related issues.
To begin, make sure your external disk that you are repairing is connected to the computer. If you are repairing an internal disk, skip this step.
After the drive is connected, launch the Disk Utility application in any of the following ways:
Type the first few letters of its name into Spotlight. Select it from the results.
Go Finder > Applications > Utilities > Disk Utility
Go Launchpad > Utilities > Disk Utility
Once you are in the Disk Utility app, select the external drive from the sidebar on the left.
Then, choose the Repair Disk Permissions button on the right.
If this does not solve your issues, you may have no choice but to reformat the drive using Disk Utility.

I have a MacBook Pro bought in dec 2009. Currently has mountain lion osx installed. Worked like a dream until today. Randomly froze, so I restarted it. To find I got a grey screen. It wouldn't start. Also note my DVD drive doesn't work, but mountain lion was installed via App Store anyway.
So here's what I done so far:
tried resetting PRAM - No success
Done disk utility. Disk verified with no errors. I even re formatted disk. - no success starting.
Tried re installing mountain lion via download . It froze halfway installing -no success.
Tried backing up a time machine backup from my USB hard drive. It froze at 1% - no success
Tried booting from safe mode - no success
Tried the command line boot - no success.
    Please someone help!

Sounds like the hard dre has left the building, Died, in the Sh*tter, Gone to the hard drive resting place in the sky.
Buy a new drive connect it to the system with a SATA to USB adapter and see if you can install Mt Lion on that drive connected externally. If you can then the drive inside your system has failed.
Oh Wait!!!! You have the 2009 model. They are known for bad drive to logic board cables. So it may not be the drive itself but the cable going from the drive to the logic board. Do the same as above then if the system runs OK with the new drive connected externally install it in the system and see if it boots. If it does you are good to go. If it doesn't then it is more then likely the cable that hs failed.
I would suggest you also SAVE a copy of that download of Mt Lion and create a USB install drive from it using Lion Disk Maker, once you get your system up and running.

2.already tried connected via lan cable, but folder with question mark appeared. What could be problem(DHCP was enabled)
3.Is it possible to do it in target disk mode through my even older powerbook G4
    4. Is it possible to do it with flash memory , and how to download the stuff on?
    thanks in advance
    Allterro

If your Macbook Pro (MBP) came preinstalled with OS X Lion (10.7), you can use Internet Recovery to reinstall it.
You will need an Internet connection.
Restart your Mac using Command+Option+R until you see a spinning globe. This will boot into Apple's server and load their Recovery HD.
From the OS X Utilities menu, select Reinstall OS X. You should see a Lion logo to the left of this option.
If your MBP came preinstalled with OS X Snow Leopard you will need the DVD and an external CD/DVD drive to use to install it.
You may also be able to put your MBP into Target Mode with another Mac running a version of OS X that is compatible with your MBP. From that other Mac download OS X from the App Store and point to your MBP (Target Mode) to install to. I've never tried this but it sounds like it might work.

  • Brand new Mac Pro.. CD DRIVE DOESN'T WORK!

I just set up my new Mac Pro yesterday, and the cd/dvd drive doesn't work. It worked once, when I was installing a printer, but it made a really bad noise, and now whenever I put any cd or dvd in, it doesn't even recognize it or react.
I don't know what to do.
I know I have a warranty so somebody from apple should be able to help me, but I can't even reach anybody on the customer support phone number.
Does anybody know a way to fix this?

Try depressing the SMC RESET button for 10 seconds, small round button under drive #4 in the rear (with unit unplugged).

  • My cd driver doesn't work to install new hp printer

I bought a new HP Printer ENVY 4500 I can't  use it from my Mac 0S as the CD/DVD driver doesn't work
    .How do I  conect it?

    Hi,
Regardless the CD issue, I affraid that the printer is incompatible with Leopard (OS X 10.5) but require OS X 10.6 or a later version.
You may find its System Requirement listed below:
    http://support.hp.com/us-en/product/HP-ENVY-4500-e-All-in-One-Printer-series/5304875/model/5304876/d...
I would suggest upgrading your operating system or contacting the retail and replace it with another model which is compatible with your operating system.

Is there a compact flash and SDXC card reader with USB3 and or thunderbolt connections that will work with new MacBook Pro retina laptops running OSX Mavericks please?

Yes, I too had this problem.
I was issued an update from Apple for a new version software as well as a new version of Lightrooom and now it shows up on the desktop and in finder as it should.
MacBook Pro Retina running 10.8.2 (12C54)
    Lightroom running 4.1
    Hope that helps.

  • Macbook air adoble flash player doesn't work after installation

macbook air adobe flash player doesn't work after installation

If you're sure you've installed the latest version of Flash, take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test. For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 7. Back up all data before making any changes.
    Step 1
You might have to log out or reboot before a Flash update takes effect.
    Step 2
In the Safari preference window, select
Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
    Close the window. Then select
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Delete All. Close the preference pane.
    Step 3
If you're only having trouble with YouTube videos, log in to YouTube and load this page. You may see a link with the text "Leave the HTML5 Trial." If so, click that link.
    Step 4
If you get a warning of a "blocked" or "outdated" plug-in, then from the menu bar select
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Check Now. Quit and relaunch the browser.
If the warning persists, triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /System/Library/CoreServices/CoreTypes.bundle/Contents/Resources
Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
    Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open. Inside it, there should be a file named "XProtect.meta.plist". If that file is missing and you know why it's missing, restore it from a backup or copy it from another Mac running the same version of OS X. Otherwise, reinstall OS X.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens (command-V). You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
    Step 5
Open this folder as in Step 4:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Delete the following item, or anything with a similar name, if present:
    Flash Player (failing).plugin
You may be prompted for your login password.
    Step 6
Re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from the domain "get.adobe.com". Don't click a link from any other website, including this one, because you can't trust links. They may be an attempt to trick you into installing malware masquerading as Flash. Type the address into the browser window. Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
    Step 7
If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked
    Allow (or Enable) plug-ins
    Then click the button marked
    Manage Website Settings...
if present and make sure that the website is not blocked for Flash.
    Step 8
    Select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.

  • Qosmio G30 - New CD/DVD drive doesn't work properly

    Hiya all
I'm hoping someone can help me. I have had to replace my TS-L802A drive with another of the same model, except that when I replaced the drive I have problems booting from CD and the laptop (Qosmio G30) rejects it by saying CD-ROM error on startup.
I managed to install the operating system from a flash drive and it works fine except for the cd rom side of things. Do I need to flash the drive in order for the laptop to recognise it? If so how do I go about doing this. I'm thinking that the chipset for the optical drive is set as slave or something and not master.
    Please help!

the drive wont show in the bios, the bios is wierd, it wont show the model number or name of any devices. is there a difference between a setup and the bios or are they the same thing. i cant configure anything. i have my old drive working at the moment but its badly damaged although it still reads disks hence the reason i managed to install an operating system. are there certain drives set as master/ cselect/ slave if so is there a way to flash the drive to make it work with my toshiba qosmio g30. or can i swap the chipsets on the optical drive by disassembling the casing and swapping them over. i just want the thing fixed. thanks please help!!!

  • YOUTUBE NOT WORKING ON NEW MACBOOK PRO

YOUTUBE NOT WORKING ON NEW MACBOOK PRO
Every time I want to see videos from youtube the video player just says "your browser does not currently recognize any of the video formats available".
Please help I have everything possible up to date.
    Thanks!

It appears as if only some videos on YouTube will play using HTML5 and without Flash. For example, this video plays just fine for me and I do not have flash installed: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fxEWddT44BY
So, unfortunately, you will have to install flash or wait for YouTube to fix their website.
Also, one thing to try: When I had Flash installed and the "ClickToPlugin" Safari extension installed, YouTube would load all the movies in a simple HTML5 format. So no annotations or any other annoying stuff. Might be worth trying. You will have to install flash but, with the "ClickToPlugin" extension, you don't have to use Flash.

  • CD Drive Doesn't Work, Please Help

Recently my Macbook was running really slowly so I restored my Macbook to factory settings. Now my CD Drive doesn't work. I can't burn CD's from iTunes or use cd's for anything. Please help!

    HI Yash,
After re-installing the OS; did you check for software updates? If they're are any you may want to install them and see if it fixes your issue. I know some times things stop working after an OS install if the software updates are not installed.
Can you still boot to the install disk? (by using option boot)
If you can't option boot to the install disk, you might want to try a SMC reset. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht3964
if you still can't you may want to try a NVRAM reset.
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379
    If that doesn't help you could try the apple troubleshooting super drive article;
    http://support.apple.com/kb/ht2801
if you can option boot to the install disk; but can't see disks when your booted to the built in hard drive, you might want to try a safeboot. http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1455
