Flash drive for new Pavilion touch screen

I have a new Pavilion touhsmart laptop, 15-no47cl.   Need to make recovery disk.  I have a sandisk usb flash drive for 2.0 GB.  Don't know if it will work.  The Instructions don't tell you what to buy.
I would appreciate any help/  It has Windows 8.1  which I'm supposed to update too....but it tells me there could be problems with the update.   Have not done it so far.
Thanks

Hi,
You need to buy a 32Gb thumb stick. Yo need around 24Gb but I don't think you can buy 24Gb stick on the market today. 2Gb is too small.

Mountain Lion fails to install saying it cannot create the recovery; I had a similar problem with Lion and the Apple Store that helped me resolve it gave me an installable version of Mountain Lion on a flash drive for my inconvenience....is there some trick I am missing or do I need to make an appointment with a genius...

I have the MacIntosh volume and the Boot Camp partition only.  I know that when I installed Lion, I had to go through a whole back-up and recovery of Windows and then re-format the drive.
The tech at the Apple Store had a previous life as a MSCE and was very helpful.  I believe he even said that I should not have htis problem with Mountain Lion which is why they gave me the flash with it onboard.  I was in the process of starting a new job when I went to Lion, so I have waited to do this next and probably last upgrade to this old MBP since I doubt Apple will support this MBP in Maverick.
I do not have another installation, so that is not an option.  I will try to create an external, I have plenty of hard drives around and see if I can get it done that way.  It might take me a week or two to get back to it, but I will comment back upon completion of that effort.  Thanks for your help....Dave Iverson

  • My new ipod touch screen- how to I keep it on 24/7?

My new ipod touch screen- how to I keep it on 24/7?
I cannot remember or find the setting that keeps my new ipod touch screen on all the time...until I want to shut it off. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Thanks, I set it that way in the beginning (when I bought it.) to that. I just checked again, at your suggestion and it IS set up in that manner.
Its weird, right now it has been on screen without shutting off for an hour. However, when I first turned it on I did the slide to open, entered my 4 digit code and before I knew it it had closed the screen (shutting off).

  • HT3662 how to check flash drive for viruses

How to chech any flash drive for virusses on imac or mac book pro? . Thanks to anyone.

Thanks for your reply.  I can only answer in the most general of terms.  I intend to use Setup Assistant to move files to the new mac and realize that that procedure will indescriminately move files from my current iMac to the new one.  While the old Mac has no obvious major prolems, it does ocasionally crash or minorly "misbehave", and I thought I could obviate carrying over such problems to the new Mac.  I have used Disk Utility to verify the hard drive and to repair permissions and wondered if there is something analogous I could do regarding the myriad other files.

  • Best way to format my 16GB flash drive for Mac and PC transferring large power point files?

best way to format my 16GB flash drive for Mac and PC transferring large power point files?

format flash drive in Exfat for transferring files between Mac and Pc.
    FORMAT TYPES
    FAT32 (File Allocation Table)
Read/Write FAT32 from both native Windows and native Mac OS X.
    Maximum file size: 4GB.
    Maximum volume size: 2TB
You can use this format if you share the drive between Mac OS X and Windows computers and have no files larger than 4GB.
    NTFS (Windows NT File System)
    Read/Write NTFS from native Windows.
Read only NTFS from native Mac OS X
To Read/Write/Format NTFS from Mac OS X, here are some alternatives:
For Mac OS X 10.4 or later (32 or 64-bit), install Paragon (approx $20) (Best Choice for Lion)
Native NTFS support can be enabled in Snow Leopard and Lion, but is not advisable, due to instability.
AirPort Extreme (802.11n) and Time Capsule do not support NTFS
    Maximum file size: 16 TB
    Maximum volume size: 256TB
You can use this format if you routinely share a drive with multiple Windows systems.
HFS+ ((((MAC FORMAT)))) (Hierarchical File System, a.k.a. Mac OS Extended (Journaled) Don't use case-sensitive)
    Read/Write HFS+ from native Mac OS X
Required for Time Machine or Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! backups of Mac internal hard drive.
To Read HFS+ (but not Write) from Windows, Install HFSExplorer
    Maximum file size: 8EiB
    Maximum volume size: 8EiB
You can use this format if you only use the drive with Mac OS X, or use it for backups of your Mac OS X internal drive, or if you only share it with one Windows PC (with MacDrive installed on the PC)
    EXFAT (FAT64)
Supported in Mac OS X only in 10.6.5 or later.
Not all Windows versions support exFAT.
    exFAT (Extended File Allocation Table)
AirPort Extreme (802.11n) and Time Capsule do not support exFAT
    Maximum file size: 16 EiB
    Maximum volume size: 64 ZiB
You can use this format if it is supported by all computers with which you intend to share the drive.  See "disadvantages" for details.

  • Artwork doesn't transfer to my Kingston flash drive for use in my car.

I am transferring songs to my Kingston flash drive for use in my car.  When I copy them from my folder and drop them in the flash drive the album artwork doesn't transfer.  I deleted the artwork from the songs of 1 CD, saved a jpg to my desktop and added to each individual song which works but would be crazy to do for all of the songs.  I am running ITunes 11.05.
I've looked in the communities but couldn't find anything about this.  Is there a way to revert back to ITunes 10?

Placing your iPhone in the toilet was the correct thing to do but you should have purchased an android phone instead. That would have solved these issues. :-)

  • Create bootable flash drive for Windows 8 in Boot Camp

I am running a Windows 8-based marine navigation program ("Coastal Explorer") in Boot Camp, on MacBook Air.  I would like to create a bootable flash drive for emergencies. Should it have Maverick or Windows 8 OS?  - or do I partition the key drive for both, with the Windows partition also containing a copy of the navigation software and maps for extra insurance? I guess the first question is, "Is this possible?" Then I would need to find information on how to create such a drive. All advice appreciated.

Windows drivers and Mac drivers have nothing to do with each other. So that's a no on your question.

  • Can I use more than one flash-drive for ready-boost on Satellite L650/0ed

    Hi,
I have a toshiba Satellite L650/0ed, is it alright if i use more than one 8gb flash-drive for 'ready boost' - what is the maximum number of flash-drives use can dedicate to 'ready-boost'.
In addition, if i use a 16gb flash-drive, will this dedicate more memory to 'ready-boost'.
Why is the seagate 1tb 3.5 expansion drive not compatible for ready-boost.
    Thank you,
    -Brent907

    Hi mate
Please check this Microsoft page which describes the ReadyBosst
    http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/products/features/readyboost
There you can find this statement:
+ReadyBoost works with most flash storage devices. In Windows 7, it can handle more flash memory and even multiple devices *up to eight* , for a maximum 256 gigabytes (GB) of additional memory.+
    Hopefully this can be helpful!

  • Is there a flash drive for the iPhone 5 so I can share

Is there a flash drive for the iPhone 5 that I can plug into my phone, copy all of the hundreds of photos and videos I've taken of my baby nephew using the iPhone camera to, and then pull out so I can just give the drive to my sister? Downloading/transferring all those photos and videos to my computer, then emailing or sorting and burning them to a disc would take FOREVER. The photos and videos of the baby are all mixed in with my personal photos and videos I've taken and sorting them out would be a nightmare. Plus, I want the original photos and videos to remain on my camera even after I copy them for my sister. Any help/ideas would be most appreciated!

    Hi Allan,
    Thank you for responding.
One clarification: I agree that the iPhone is not for long-term photo storage and I'm not looking to use it that way. What I'm looking for is a quick and easy way for me to get the photos/videos of my nephew to my sister so SHE can store them long-term. (Then I can delete all but a few of them and transfer them to my computer for storage pretty quickly and easily). The way I know to get all those photos/videos to her would take a very long time (which I don't have) and would require a lot of time sorting (which I don't have time to do either). Please don't suggest I pare down the photos and videos for her. This baby is a miracle baby and the Mom needs to get all the photos and videos. Understand where I'm coming from?
Regarding not keeping any favorite photos/videos on an iPhone: It seems normal to have some favorite photos and videos remain on an iPhone, kind of like a "Grandma's brag book" of most beloved photos. Even the most no-nonsense person might have 20-30 photos of someone or something they love, so they can share them with interested people or peruse them when they want to feel connected or be grounded.
I can't be the only person dealing with this issue/needing this type of hardware. Opportunities and need for photo sharing abound. If nothing else, it seems like an easy way for Apple to make a whole lot of extra money while making a whole lot of consumers very, very happy.
Any advice? Again, thanks very much.

  • When is Apple will make a Micro USB Flash Drive for iPads and iPhones ???

IIt's really a big help if Apple make their own Micro USB a Flash Drive for iPads and iPhones.

Apple would not tell people there are other brands on the market. It is my opinion that if Apple users keep asking for the USB for ipads, they might consider it. As for the iphone there MIGHT be a tiny slot inside where the battery is for an SD card, which expands the space. I know Android has that feature in their cell phones, but not sure about Apple.

It's not just iTunes you need to update...
You need to upgrade to Leopard v10.5.8 at the very least in order to sync, restore, and backup an iPod touch.
See iPod touch system requirements here.
Leopard is available from Amazon here.

  • How Do You Test a Flash Drive for Errors Using OS X?

HI. In Windows there are Flash Drive tester that tests if there's something wrong with the Flash drive's chips. How do you test a flash drive for errors on OS X? I bought the HP v220w which is tiny for a 16GB and it's metal. The whole thing goes into the plug. Design wise, it is great, it's very elegant like a jewelry. Thanks in advance.
    Gbu.

Format it for OS X and run a surface scan on the partition. That should show any hardware problems that don't keep it from working altogether.
