Flash drive not shown in File Explorer

I have plugged in my flash drive into three different usb drive ports (one at a time) and no luck on opening documents on it. Its icon shows on the bottom bar of the desktop, however it is unable to access.
I have restarted my computer to see if it will open in the file explorer folder, but it did not.
I do not know why my Toshiba laptop is unable to read my flash drive when I regularly use it on here for school. Are there any helpful hints to resolve this issue? I would appreciate the help.

Strange! ?:|
What happens if you try to disconnect the external USB HDD and connect it again????
Do you see the little icon in the task bar that the USB device was connected???
One hint:
- Leave the USB HDD connected to the notebook
- Shut down the notebook
- Restart the notebook
- Login into Vista
- Check if the USB HDD was recognized again!
Good luck

a lot of these USB disks are garbage. Remove the hard disk from the case and connect it to an available desktop which will be able to read the disk.

  • MPG video files on a flash drive not shown!

I have a flash drive with videos (.mpg) with format FAT32. When I connect this flash drive to my macbook pro (OSX) it displays on the desktop. However, the videos fail to display when I explore the flash drive. What to do?

The Apple info on iPhoto is applicable to your situation:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5168?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US
Basically, move your flash files to your desktop, and convert the original flash drive from FAT32 to MacO S X Extended. Move the converted files to the flash device - and it should work fine.

Im trying to bring a movie from imovie to a pc using a flash drive, but the movie file (.mov) will not play on a pc. help!

I would like to offer you some additional hair, but I've pulled mine out as well.  I have created a slideshow of my daughter's new house (a very nice place indeed) as a house-warming gift, took all the pix myself with a throw-away camera made into CD's, imported all of the photos, cropped and enhanced with Iaza online free photo editor, re-saved the new ones to a folder, imported the selected ones into iPhoto, had the best thematic photo printed in 8x10 format, bought the black DVD's, made the MPEG-4 movie as well as the suggested exportable to iPhone, created a folder with the slides, crafted a nice playlist in iTunes, merged it all in iPhoto, but cannot successfuly export it into iDVD. The technical documentation and writing for some of this stuff is sloppy and sometimes unintelligible. The instructional videos are incomplete. The One-on-One fellow was most helpful the other day and said Apple doesn't really have or support an functional DVD creation tool and suggested I choose one or another "app" at the "app store", but the reviews for the two major ones are shallow in depth and I haven't yet sprunf for the $20-$40 download so I can re-experience the difficult learning curve. The Macintoshs I once used were incredibly intuitive; the iMac requires some study. The slideshow I have is imperfect becauae it keeps reverting to custom slide-specific choices I have decided (several times) that I do not want, but it keeps slipping back into "Ken Burns" mode and some of the photos don't work in that mode because of their format. But I will settle for less-than-perfect if I can figure out the best way to export the MPEG-4 I have created into a Maxell DVD-R some time before my daughter's toddlers aged 4 and 2 get into kindergarten.

  • Flash Drive not supported

    Hello everyone,
I purchased a SanDisk Cruzer Micro 1.0 GB flash drive not too long ago and it was working fine. Removed some software that was on it because I couldn't use it.
Used my flash drive today and I receive this error, but still kinda works...
"The disc could not be used because the disc drive is not supported. (Error code 0x80020025)"
The flash drive also does not eject the flash drive correctly. The little light that is on the flash drive does not turn off when I press the eject button in the OS hard drive icon.
I've tried reformating the flash drive and tried downloading the driver on the sandisk website, but it is for the Windows 98SE Operating System and does nothing for my iBook G4.
Any suggestion would be much appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Stephanie

Someone on another forum had a similar issue. Basically, you need to connect it to a Windows machine and uninstall the U3 software from it.
The error message you get indicates that the computer is trying to access the flash drive as if it was a CD writer.

  • 4GB Flash Drive not loading on Mac (but on Windows and Ubuntu)

    Hello,
I have a 4GB flash drive (probably from LG) that I bought about 3 years ago. It was working just fine all this time but now, all of a sudden, it's gone. Not working, showing up neither in Finder nor in Disk Utility. But it works just fine on Windows 7 and Ubuntu. Files are even readable there. I tried re-formatting it on Ubuntu in FAT-32 but it still won't show up on a Mac.
Any other flash drive is showing up on my computer (tested with 2 different ones).
    Any clue?

I don't claim to know the solution to your problem, but in your situation I would try either or both administrator install methods: 1) Right-click the downloaded install file, choose "Run as Administrator" and install the software as usual. 2) Try using a different Windows account that you are positively certain has full administrator rights or the actual Administrator login name, install with that account.
Also, make sure you empty the browser cache before retrying the http pages. What about other browser settings, like security or privacy settings? Any add-ons or antivirus browser helper objects?
Do you only use Internet Explorer, or is this issue the same in Firefox, Opera, Chrome and Safari?
Good luck, hope you get the error fixed.

  • Flash drive not on desktop

Hi, I have a MacBook Air with Lion and when I put in my USB flash drive, it won't show up on the desktop as it should.
I have switched on the finde options that all should be shown on desktop, but this doesn't.
    Any idea what to do?
    Best,

If it is not mounting, try "mounting" the drive in Disk Utility.
See if it then appears on the desktop. What is the file system on the drive? (FAT32)?
You mentioned that Show "External Disks" is check-marked, right?

  • External Hard Drives (and some flash drives) Not Recognized by Server2003

I recently purchased a new computer (Dell T100 server) and old Server2003 disk (OEM disk on eBay). Installed Server2003 and added File Server role only. My data is located on a Western Digital Passport that is recognized no problem on any other computer in the office (all XP). When I connect it to the server (front or rear, same result), it does not give it a drive letter, and says there are 0 bytes used 0 bytes free. Under Computer Management->Storage->Disk Management it shows: Volume: blank, Layout: Partition, Type: Basic, File System: blank, Status: Healthy. It's as if it does not know how to read the file system.
What do I need to do to Server2003 to get this drive with my data on it to be read by my new server?

    Hi,
Following is the System Requirements from Western digital’s website.
    Windows
    Available USB port
    Windows 2000/XP/Vista®
My Passport Essential 320GB USB 2.0 Hard Drives(WDMEB3200)

Yes, generally speaking, if an external drive or flash drive can be recognized by Windows XP, it should work in Windows Server 2003. However, there is no guarantee.
If possible, I recommend that you plug the “unrecognized” drive to some other Windows Server 2003 computers to test whether it works. If the issue continues, I suggest that you contact the vendor or the drive for more details.
By the way, what’s the version of Windows Server 2003 you used? Please update it to the latest service pack to check whether they works.
    Best Regards,
    Vincent Hu

  • Folder problems on external drive, not showing correct file size

I've run across a strange problem. I'm media managing for a tv show, meaning I'm offloading video from CF cards onto 2 external drives, one is a Drobo Raid (set up for backup) and another is a Lacie rugged drive. After copying the media to both drives, the folder I copy will match, but sometimes as I drill upward in my folder structure, suddenly the file sizes will not match. To be more clear: 2 folders will show differing file sizes, but inside that folder is only another folder, nothing else, which matches across the drives. I've shown all files in finder and there's no hidden files, though sometimes I see the ds_store files are different sizes (8k vs 16k), but that's not always the case. Sometimes if I simply create a new folder and move it's contents into it I can get the folders to match, but sometimes that doesn't work. It's part of my workflow to show that these copies match exactly via screenshots, and although the most important folder (the direct folder holding the footage) always matches, these folder problems are super frustrating as it's not constant, and any workarounds also work inconsistantly.
I had an accidental disconnect of the Drobo one time, and although none of the data seems to have any problem, I fear it's done something to the directory. The rugged drive is swapped out every few days and the problem seems to be on the Drobo. Because the nature of the data is pretty important, I'm afraid to just try messing around with repairing or other software solutions unless I know it's super safe and won't harm the data.
I'm at a loss as to what's causing it and at the very least how to avoid it cropping up. Any help or insight would be appreciated!

I had the same problem with my iMac, first I repaired the disk, then I ejected the disk, restarted, and then reinserted the USB in a different port.  All of my files magically showed up.  I don't know what caused the error but it has been working fine since.

  • USB flash drive not being recognized as a startup disk?

Hi everyone, I've been searching for similar questions but haven't found one that exactly matches my experience.  So, I'm going to try and explain my issue in hopes that others may be able to help.
I'm trying to create a bootable flash drive from which I can install lion, and eventually Mountain Lion when it is released onto my main hard drive.  My main reason for doing this is  to have a way that I can perform a clean install of the operating system.  Yes, I know I am old fashioned, but sometimes I prefer clean operating system installs rather than upgrading.  In any case, I have downloaded the lion setup file from the Mac app store (Install Mac OS X Lion.app) and am following the directions given on this page to do this procedure.  These directions are consistent with directions found on various other sources online.  Having this file saved to my hard drive, I was able to find and extract the disk image file from the package InstallESD.dmg to another folder.  Once extracted, I plugged in my flash drive and attempted to use disk utility to restore the disk image to my flash drive.  I selected the dmg file as my source and the flash drive as the destination.  I then clicked restore and was warned that all data on the flash drive would be erased while the disk image was restored to my flash drive.  I was prepared for this, so I allowed the process to continue, and it appeared to proceed with no problem.  When disk utility was finished, I did a quick look at my flash drive using finder and confirmed that it did in fact appear to contain a disk image of the .dmg file.  Here's where things get interesting however.
When I go to system preferences and choose startup disk, my flash drive is not listed as an optional disk from which to boot, only my hard drive ("macintosh HD").  When I restart and hold down the option key, my flash drive is not listed as a startup disk either.  I know that the non-intel based macs are not capable of booting from USB, but this is certainly not my issue as I have an intel macbook pro, mid 2009 model.  My flash drive is about 4 or 5 years old; it is a PNY Technologies Attaché 16 gb flash drive.  I have no trouble viewing and transferring files to and from the flash drive, the only issue is that my computer seems to refuse to recognize it as a startup disk.  Are there certain flash drives which do not support booting?  This would normally seem more like a computer issue rather than a flash drive issue, but most people seem to have no problem doing what I'm trying to do.  Unfortunately I do not have another flash drive with which to test this, and I didn't really feel like buying another flash drive just to test this out if in fact this is not a flash drive issue.  I am planning to upgrade to the macbook pro retina soon which of course does not have an optical drive, which is one of the reasons I would like to get this working.  Can anyone think of something else I can try?  Is it more likely an issue with the macbook pro or the flash drive?
Thanks in advance for any thoughts.

The format says Mac OS Extended.  All of the settings were set during the disk image restore process.  Even if I format the flash drive as extended journaled or some other format, all of these settings are reverted when I do the restore from the disk image.  I will just copy all of the information that disk utility has so that you can see it.

  • Drive C showing in File Explorer under This PC and as a root namespace

For me Drive C, which I have named C - W10EVM, shows twice in File Explorer's navigation column.  I only have the one volume on this VM (C:).  I start the window with the command (in a desktop shortcut):
    C:\Windows\explorer.exe /expand,C:\
    This is what I see:
Anyone know what can be done to hide one or the other of them?
I guess, assuming other drives will show up as root namespaces, that I'd probably prefer to hide This PC.  Ideally then I'd only have drive letters and Network in the Navigation pane.
    Thanks.

  • Flash Drive Not Recognized

I have an 8GB flash drive that worked until last night. I was uploading a 3.6 GB file and it crashed. I tried using Disk Utility to reformat the drive, but then that crashed too, along with Finder. I had to hold the power button to shut down my computer.
Now my flash drive isn't recognized by my Mac and does not come up with Disk Utility. I tried using it on a PC and the PC realized it was inserted but it was not recognized.

  • Sat P105-S2036 WinVista SD memory card device not shown in WIndows Explorer

The label on the botton of the laptop says the Model Number is PSPAOU-1W2036. I have had it for about 2 years. It has a single slot SD memory card only reader in the front. During this time till 2 days ago, it ran factory installed Windows XP MCE just fine. This SD reader shows up in Device Manager as well as in My Computer Windows Explorer window as a drive with letter D since I renamed the DVD drive to letter R. During the last two days, I successfully upgraded the operating system to Windows Vista Ultimate. Everything works fine except that the SD memory card reader no longer shows in neither Device Manager, nor Windows Explorer. But the Device Manager does show a working SDA Standard Compliant SD Host Controller, and a nonworking Mass Storage Controller (missing driver) under Other devices (See Attachment 1). What needs to be done to make the SD memory card reader a working device in Windows Vista? Thank to answers in advance.
