Flash drive on mac air

Ive literally just brought a Macbook air which I believe has 4Gb onboard abd 64GB flash storage but how do I access the flash storage? Its just that I seem to have filled the 4gb with about a quarter of the amount of stuff that I tried to transfer from my old windows laptop.
Thanks

Your 4GB is your RAM....You can not access that one....That is for your system apps and os to access.
Your 64GB Flash Storage is your hard drive - which you can access and transfer and save files too....It's the one that's called McIntosh HD in your desktop...If it isn't shown anywhere in your desktop then click on Finder - Preferences - General and put a checkmark on Hard Disk.
Now, if you're having problems transferring your files, maybe your Flash Storage is full.
To determine this - click on activity monitor and click on one of the tabs in the bottom called Disk Usage.
That will tell you have much space you've used and how much is left...
Good luck

  • Best way to format my 16GB flash drive for Mac and PC transferring large power point files?

best way to format my 16GB flash drive for Mac and PC transferring large power point files?

format flash drive in Exfat for transferring files between Mac and Pc.
    FORMAT TYPES
    FAT32 (File Allocation Table)
Read/Write FAT32 from both native Windows and native Mac OS X.
    Maximum file size: 4GB.
    Maximum volume size: 2TB
You can use this format if you share the drive between Mac OS X and Windows computers and have no files larger than 4GB.
    NTFS (Windows NT File System)
    Read/Write NTFS from native Windows.
Read only NTFS from native Mac OS X
To Read/Write/Format NTFS from Mac OS X, here are some alternatives:
For Mac OS X 10.4 or later (32 or 64-bit), install Paragon (approx $20) (Best Choice for Lion)
Native NTFS support can be enabled in Snow Leopard and Lion, but is not advisable, due to instability.
AirPort Extreme (802.11n) and Time Capsule do not support NTFS
    Maximum file size: 16 TB
    Maximum volume size: 256TB
You can use this format if you routinely share a drive with multiple Windows systems.
HFS+ ((((MAC FORMAT)))) (Hierarchical File System, a.k.a. Mac OS Extended (Journaled) Don't use case-sensitive)
    Read/Write HFS+ from native Mac OS X
Required for Time Machine or Carbon Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! backups of Mac internal hard drive.
To Read HFS+ (but not Write) from Windows, Install HFSExplorer
    Maximum file size: 8EiB
    Maximum volume size: 8EiB
You can use this format if you only use the drive with Mac OS X, or use it for backups of your Mac OS X internal drive, or if you only share it with one Windows PC (with MacDrive installed on the PC)
    EXFAT (FAT64)
Supported in Mac OS X only in 10.6.5 or later.
Not all Windows versions support exFAT.
    exFAT (Extended File Allocation Table)
AirPort Extreme (802.11n) and Time Capsule do not support exFAT
    Maximum file size: 16 EiB
    Maximum volume size: 64 ZiB
You can use this format if it is supported by all computers with which you intend to share the drive.  See "disadvantages" for details.

  • In start disc mode can I use a external USB flash drive on MAC Book Pro

In start disc mode can I use a external USB flash drive on MAC Book Pro?

To do what? Yes you can connect a USB flash drive to the system and if it has the Recovery HD files on it you can boot from it. If it has the OS X install files on it you can boot from it. If it is large enough to contain a Time Machine backup on it you can restore your system from it.
So what do you want to do with the USB thumb drive?

hi, i recently got a air mac and needed to transfer all of my music, movies and photos from my old laptop onto a usb flash drive but im having trouble trying to figure out how to transfer the information from the flashdrive onto my mac, i dont know how to access the documents. thanks

Choose Computer from the Finder's Go menu, double-click that drive, and drag the files to the desired locations. You'll also need an application capable of opening them.

  • How to transfer data from USB flash drive to iPad Air?

How do I transfer files and data from a USB flash drive, or from a PC, to an iPad Air?

With a USB flash drive you might, if the drive doesn't require too much power, be able to copy photos and/or videos (if they are under a DCIM directory on the drive and their filenames are exactly 8 characters plus file extension) from it to the iPad's Photos app via the camera connection kit.
What sort of files do you want to copy to your iPad, and have you got an app on your iPad that supports the file type that you want to copy to it ? Everything on your iPad has to be stored within an app, it doesn't have a 'file system' like a computer. Different apps have different ways of copying content to/from them e.g. via the file sharing section on the iPad's Apps tab when connected to your computer's iTunes, via your wifi network, email, dropbox.

  • When to format a USB flash drive to Mac O?

I use thumb drives to transfer files from on computer/location to another, and never had a problem with drives that formatted FAT-32. Should I have been formatting these drives to Mac OS? Under what circumstances should a USB flash drive be formatted to Mac OS? What's the rule of thumb (no pun intended)?

File formats aren't compatible based on filesystem. It's just data to the filesystem. Compatibility is at the application level, which is where the files are opened and read. Any file can be put onto any drive, assuming it is within the filesystems limitations (i.e. FAT32's 4GB size limit).

  • Nano as a flash drive between Mac and windows

I intended to use the nano as a flash drive. I use Apple at home, but have to use windows at work. My other flash drives have no problem moving files between both. But when I connected the nano at work, Windows gave me some initialize message. Would that delete my data on nano? I just disconnected and wait for your help.
How can I use the nano as a flash drive between my mac and windows at work?

Check what the iPod's format is; if the iPod nano is in Mac format, it can't be used on a PC which doesn't have third-party software such as MacDrive installed onto it. Initializing or restoring your iPod will erase everything on it.

  • Transferring photos from a USB flash drive to Mac Lion

I managed to salvage some photos from my old Windows Vista laptop and get them onto a small flash drive, before my laptop pegged out.
But when I plug it into the USB port on the Mac, I dont see any Icon and no recognition of it.
How do I find it and get the photos into Iphoto ? or is it not possible to transfer photos from a flash drive to a Mac ?

you open finder it's the dark blue and light blue 1/2 faces
there you go to the usb drive and mark the photos and copy them to where you wish
on the mac hd and then add them to iphone should you wish

Hi , where can I find Lion Mac OS X ?
I need to download it , install it in a flash drive and use is as a bootable copy .
I have an iMac 2006 Late 5,1 which uses 10.7.5 and I believe the hard drive is going to stop functioning any time soon .

You can download Lion under the Purchases tab of the App Store.

  • Formatting a USB flash drive for Mac OS X Leopard & Windows XP

I'm pretty new to Mac, so forgive me if this seems a very basic question.
How do I format a USB flash drive so that it can be seen by both an Imac running Mac OS X Leopard and a PC running Windows XP?
If one or other machine can't see the drive it makes transferring files really frustrating.
    Your advice would be appreciated.
    Thanks.

You can either use Windows or OSx to format the flash drive to FAT32. This will allow you to read and write from OSx and Windows. If you just bought the flash drive then double check before you format as it may already be formatted to FAT32.
Use Disk Utility from OSx to format your flash drive OR from windows, click on *My Computer* and then highlight the drive letter and choose File from the top menu and then Format.

You apparently did not properly install the SL DVD onto your flash drive. You will have to find the lost DVD or buy a new one.
