Flash file won't replay?

I am in AS3.0
I have created a linear flash file to show the steps of a user flow.
This uses a single 'next' button which navigates through the flow and at the final screen navigates back to the first screen to allow the user to view the file again.
However it sticks at screen1 and will not progress.
I have addressed the following points suggested by someone else,
1.  make sure your button listener code is on the first keyframe that contains your button.
2.  your button should be on its own layer
3.  that layer should extend to length of your timeline
4.  there should be no keyframe in your button's layer OTHER than the first keyframe.  ie, there's only one keyframe containing your button and your button exists throughout your timeline.
but it still doesn't work.
Any help is much appreciated.
Max

What you just described isn't really following the intent of what was recommended to you.  Is there any chance you could show a screenshot of the timeline down at the scene1 end?  I am anticipating that the code that would be assigned in scene1 is not being assigned again, possibly because you miss that frame on returning, though I may be wrong.
What you might consider doing instead is to only assign one listener to that button, back in the first frame it appears in (no other keyframes on the button's layer) and have it use a variable that you assign the next screen's frame label value (call it nextSection or something).
next.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, clickNext);
function clickNext(evtObj:MouseEvent){
     gotoAndStop(nextSection);
and that nextSection variable would be declared in the first frame of a layer that also extends the length of the timeline so that it is accessible anywhere for assignment and retrieval.
var nextSection:String;
and you would assign it the next screen's frame label when you arrive at each screen.... nextSection = "screen5";

  • Flash files won't display when using DW CS3

    Anyone else have this problem? The source shows there's a
    flash file on my html page but it doesn't appear at all. When I
    made a new page using Dreamweaver MX, I added a flash file,
    uploaded it, and all was fine (except there was that annoying 'you
    must click to activate' message in IE). When I open that same html
    page in Dreamweaver CS3, it says that DW will fix the 'object tag'
    (to get rid of that message). So it adds the code, then when I look
    at the page on the Web, there's no Flash file there at all. Is
    there something else I need to do when inserting a .swf file in
    CS3? Thanks.

    Sure it does. You forgot to upload the Scripts folder that DW
    alerted you
    to do.

  • Flash file won't display

    Bear with me, I come from the GoLive world.
    Have a site recently converted to DW. Made an update to the
    home page that has a Flash file in it. DW asked me if I wanted to
    update code to make it IE safe. Now file does not display in Mac
    Safari or Firefox. Haven't turned on a Windows box yet to test
    there.
    It displays in preview, but not live.
    http://www.starmilling.com
    Flash file should be right above the Simplicity bag area.
    Any idea what happened? DW is hard enough to figure out
    without having this.
    If worse comes to worse, I can always copy the GL code for
    that flash file back in, but was hoping to fix it without
    that.

    If you had done what you needed to do from the start, you
    wouldn't have to
    do this at all. I'm just saying....

  • Please help. Flash file won't load on page that contains a form

    Hi and thank you for viewing this post. I have a site located at http://www.marquis-online.com. If you wish to see the code, it's on the "contact us" page, or I have also attached the actual HTML document.. You will notice that I have a form on the page as well as the flash banner. When I take the form off, the flash works (Like on the other pages), but when the form is on the page, the flash banner won't load. It seems as though I can't have both on the same page. I don't get it. I would greatly appreciate some input. Thank you so much.
    Kevin

    It works OK for me in Firefox.  Which browser(s) have you tested it on?
    Flash form scripts may be conflicting with banner scripts.  I don't know.  Also, you have some validation errors on the page.  Start by fixing those.

    Don't. Put the script back in. It works fine *IF* you also
    upload the

    insert the Flash on
    the page.

  • Flash file won't loop

    Importing a bit of video into a Director MX 2004 project on a
    Mac running 10.4.something with the latest version of QT, I've run
    into an odd problem. The check-off box for looping the swf video is
    checked, but the video ignores it and quits at the end of the file.
    I just want to have a spinning globe appear on the opening screen
    and stay there until the user goes to another marker. It should be
    stone simple.
    I tried downloading the latest patch to take version 10.1 to
    ver. 10.1.1, but even when I install them using the Shockwave
    installer, it opens as 10.1 again, so there's another problem. The
    actual link to the download that will upgrade MX 2004 is a
    developer upgrade but I can't find a general upgrade. maybe that's
    the problem. Of maybe it's trying to develop on a Mac.
    Any ideas out there?
    Steve W.

    Hi Steve,
    Not necessarily. If On2 won't let you add commands, and it
    creates an
    .swf that has frames, then you could use a behavior on the
    Flash sprite
    like this:
    property thisSprite
    property totalFrames
    on beginSprite me
    thisSprite = me.spriteNum
    totalFrames = sprite(thisSprite).member.frameCount
    end
    on exitFrame me
    if sprite(thisSprite)._currentframe <> VOID then
    if sprite(thisSprite)._currentframe >= totalFrames then
    sprite(thisSprite).gotoAndPlay(1)
    end if
    end if
    end
    You can let Director watch your Flash .swf and loop it for
    you.

  • Flash file won't open

    I saved and compacted my .fla the other day and the wheel
    never stopped spinning. I force quit/restarted and still, it loads

    Please help! Does anyone have some suggestions on recovering
    the file???
    Thanks!

    Hi,
    I'll look into this issue  here . If possible  please email your fla to us at [email protected]?
    Please note that our filter system cannot accept .zip file.
    If you are sending the file in .zip format  change the file extension from .zip to .zzz.

    I'm creating something on flash proffesional cc and it's coming up with this message..
    I have tried saving it to another location and it says the same message, is there away around this?
    Or do I face loosing all my work i've done?

    Yes, I have full admin privileges on my computer. This issue has only come up with CC. My previous install of CS5.5 was fine.
    It's strange that when I create a file myself, I still can't save over it.

  • WAV file won't replay in LabView or load in WMP, but works in VLC

    I'm creating an audio file for an interview with the code snippet attached (VI is very large and does a lot of unrelated processing).  This audio is recorded in the "interview" subvi.  At completion, this subvi is closed and the "process" subvi is opened.  If this process is followed, labview will open and play the WAV file with no problem.  Alternatively, "process" can be run as a stand-alone.  If this is done, I get the error 4810 at Sound File Read Open (possible reason: cannot recognize sound format).  If I try to open the file in Windows Media Player, the wav will open, but will have a length of 0.  If I open the wav in VLC, it plays with no problem.  I haven't tried saving as a new file, but this is a sortof untenable solution anyway.  For what it's worth, this problem arose when the audio recording was changed to a queue-based process.  I've attached the old (working) code for reference.
    Thanks,

    I'm also adding a screen cap of the working (right) and non-working (left) headers created by the snippets attached above.  I don't have a lot of experience with this, but it strikes me as curious that the non-working (left) header has no value for what I think should be the File Size (data) section (as referenced here http://www.topherlee.com/software/pcm-tut-wavformat.html).  I note also that the header seems to be 12 bytes longer that most references suggest, but this is the case in both the working and non-working headers (I'm looking specifically at offset 36-47 in both).

  • Template fla file won't open in Flash MX

    I am having trouble opening up the Music_MX.fla into
    my Flash MX........is there anyway that I can find freeware or get
    this file to open.......error messages include: file format not
    found and unable to open file. thanks

    Open Flash first, then use the File... Open... and navigate
    to the fla that you want to open. If this file won't open, and it
    is marked that it should work with the version of Flash that you
    are using, then it should open using this method. If the file
    doesn't open, then return it, or get a new copy.

  • Swf demo files won't play in flash file on website

    Using Captivate 4, I created a project and published to a folder (as Flash 8). The main flash file has 4 swf demo files that are supposed to play on one of the slides; I uploaded all the published files (swf, js, htm) into a folder within my website's CMS. Our CMS uses it's own flash player to play the file; when it plays, all is well except for the slide that is supposed to show the 4 swf demos--these aren't showing up at all. If these demo files are in the same folder in the CMS as the main flash file, why can't it find them to make them play on the slide?
    here's a link to the page with the file:
    http://stage.lmc.simplicis.net/page/1/testlearningpoint.jsp (see link for "watch this video on city learning point")
    --it's the slide with "City Learning Point uses..." that's supposed to play 4 swf demos on the right side of the slide, but they don't show up at all
    Our website CMS is hosted and maintained by a vendor--if the issue is with the CMS, I'll need to know what to tell them so we can resolve the issue.

    Looks to me like the issue is indeed your CMS. The flash content is loaded in a lightbox, which is most likely controlled by some JavaScript or ASP. My guess would be that the problem lies with the paths to the files. The swf file that the lightbox loads is referenced in your CMS so it knows where to get it - the thing is that most likely it is not played from the location where it's located but instead played from the location where the lightbox script is loaded. Since the 4 SWF's you have are not located there it won't be able to find it.
    Also this lightbox approach isn't very good for this type of content. The demo is extremely small and the alignment of the Flash file looks weird. Instead just use the HTML file generated by Captivate and upload that to a directory in your CMS. Then change the link you have so it opens the HTML file in a new window and everything should work out just fine.

  • Computer won't turn on... just shows a flashing file with a question mark

    Hi, I hope someone may be able to help me with my laptop. I had downloaded some TV shows off of iTunes and was watching one of them. My computer froze. I forced it to turn off, and tried to restart it. However, it won't turn on! I just get a grey screen with a flashing file that has a question mark in it. It then turns itself off a few minutes later.
    I have tried taking out the battery, restarting etc.... Does anyone have any ideas? Any help would be much appreciated. We live in the Caribbean so I can't take it to an Apple store.

    Hi. I have the same issue as the guy you previously helped. I listened to your advice about putting the Install DVD in and now all i get on the screen is the apple with the loading circle under it instead of the flashing folder. It's been loading for 2 hours now so i figure it's not going to work. I have the DVD in there too and i don't know how to get it out either.
