Flash FLV into FCP
Hi there,
Is there a way of getting a flash video from a website and importing it into FCP? I have downloaded the flv file but i cannot import it into FCP. Is there a plugin or technique for this?
Thanks,
Tom
Yes, install this:
http://perian.org/
and then FLVs can import into FCP as if they were QuickTime.

Importing a .flv into fcp
Is it possible to import an .flv into fcp? and if so, how?
You need to convert the flv to a format that can be imported into FCP. You can use with MPEG-Streamclip to convert the flv.
http://www.squared5.com/
And it's free!!!
Quicktime Pro can convert the video but not the audio. -
I have Flash Pro 8 and FCP Pro HD and am still trying to learn both.
Can I create a piece in Flash and import it into FCP? If I need to upgrade FCP, I will - I just need to know if it's possible, and how to do it.
thanks a lot.
j.On a related question, I have a number of flash animations for a client, a comic, and the movie is in 5 parts...I have the latest version of FCP and of Flash, and I am having a lot of problems exporting to quicktime and importing to FCP. I have tried export movie>quicktime and quicktime movie, with a variety of codecs (animation, motion graphics, DV), and every time some tweens(individual) are dropped, and some sounds from the flash movie. There must be a way to just clone what I can see in my swf into FCP? If anyone knows how, please help.
(and please, dont tell me to learn the apps as I have a professional level knowledge of both.) -
I've been given a quicktime movie (.mov) that has been converted to flash. When I import it into FCP, the video and audio are not separate. How do I do that so i can adjust the audio separately?
I have quicktime Pro.
thanks.http://perian.org is free software that can convert .flv (Flash Video) via QuickTime Pro.
If your files are .swf and inside a .mov "container" QuickTime Pro can't extract the audio at export. -
Trouble importing HDV mini DV footage from my Sony HVR Z7U into FCP 6.0.6
Cannot import HDV mini DV footage from my HVR Z7U camcorder into Final Cut Pro
I can Import the footage as an NTSC 720x480 signal.
One consistent answer is to make sure that in camcorders menu settings that the IN/OUT REC - iLINK SET is set to off.
No Luck, no communication with FCP in that mode.
That being said when cameras ilink is on I can import 740/480 NTSC video, not HDV.
Here’s where I’m at now
The video was shot in 1080i 30p onmini DV. With my Sony HVR Z7U Ican only import the video into FCP as a NTSC 720x480 signal. It looks great butnot in HDV?
I believe I have tried most every setting in my FCP audio video settings to import the HD footage into FCP. FCPseems to only recognize the camcorder in the NTSC mode.
Example - In FCP Audio /Video Settings
Sequence Preset - HDV 108030p
Capture Preset - HDV
Device Control - HDV FireWire Basic
Video Playback - Only gives none or NTSC choices(I chose Apple FireWire)
With the setting above and Sony’s ilink off- window alert reads…
“Device is not connected or the capture preset is not set up correctly. You may still log offline clips. This might also happen if you play DV footage in an HDV device.” The camcorder viewer reads the digital footage as 1080i 30p. So it’s not shot in DV footage.
With the iLink on - I get the same window alert. Unless I capture in NTSC
For me FCP will only log and capture the footage when the Capture and Device Control Presets are set to a NTSC format and the camcorder ilink is on. Hence an NTSC 720x480 signal is imported. Not HDV?
Come on, I know this a common problem and I must be missing something very simple. Please Help! Many thanks.

Someone mentioned using log and transfer. I use this with all my Compact Flash HD videos. I have found no info for importing HDV from mini DV in log and transfer with a (my) camcorder.Gary, this is the Final Cut Pro X forum. You might try the other forum for FCP. Still, I have the Z5U Sony which is nearly identical to your camera except for the zoom as I recall. I think we have the same menu system. I see to recall there is a menu option that sets the output file format. Also you can set it to record in SD as well as I recall. I read my files in from tape to FCP X easily ... in high def. Best wishes.

I've a client who asked for a bid on a project, which piqued
my curiosity.However, from
my probing it seems they wanted the Quicktime movies turned
into FLV files
but wanted them for DVDs. They were not as yet concerned
about output for
the web.
I was curious and a bit confused and then wondered about the
aspect ratios
of Flash on a DVD. Their original QT movs would be 720x486
and FLV output
is 680x480.
The question: what happens when you have FLV aspect ratios on
DVD and then
you play the dvd on computer or tv? Do you get the clipping
or black bars
on both outputs?
Or should you (can you) render a Flash FLV in the 720x486
mode, or 720x480?
They never defined for me clearly their final output goal but
wanted a 1
week turn around on 45 hours of QT. I told them it "might" be
possible in
single pass VBR, but...
It seems they want a bank of computers, and I could only run
2 full time on
processing. Anyone know of big production houses that do this
type of
transfer full time and do it at a reasonable rate? Thanks for recommendation. The DVD2Web Converter does look like the appropriate tool.

I don't know if this is a fault on my part or not, it probably is though. I have been at this for over two days now, trying to figure out a way to do convert quicktime to swf.
I managed to create a flv file of the movie, the audio and video works with it. However when brining it into flash, the video time stretches so much that it's incredibly slow. Oddly enough the audio stays the same. I can export it as a swf after publishing it, but I don't like how messed up the audio and video are.
Is there a way to restretch the video in Flash? Or any other solution you can think of. I really need help as I have exhausted all resources that I can possibly think of. I am an amateur at best with these programs. Thank you for any help...The biggest issue with out of sync audio/video when "embedding" an flv into the main timeline is that the frame rate of the Flash doc is not set to exactly the same frame rate as the video. So if the video was shot at 29.97 frames per second, you need to set the Flash doc to exactly that, 29.97. And unless there are some Internet download connection speed issues, it pretty much keeps the audio/video synced.
It only makes sense that playing a 29.97 video file in a 15 frames per seond Flash doc will slow the video display way down, since one frame of video equals one frame in Flash... but the audio part just plays at normal speed... otherwise it would be way distorted, like playing a tape/record in slow motion.
Here's a short sample video embedded directly into the timeline in a Flash doc set to 29.97 frames per sec:
http://www.cidigitalmedia.com/tutorials/sync.html
That being said, I would still not recommend embedding video into the main timeline except under special circumstances. Use the FLVPlayback component or NetStream to play an external video.
Best wishes,

Problem inserting FLV into template based page DW8
Error when inserting an FLV into a template based page.
The error is: "Making this change would require changing code
that is locked by a template or translator. The change will be
discarded."
I thought perhaps something was wrong with my code so I
created a new page in DW8, with one word of text. Saved the new
page as a template with the one word of text made into an editable
region. Created a page based on that template and attempted to
insert a FLV file into the editable region (using Insert > Media
> Flash Video). I still get the error message. I've attached the
code for this page.
I also get the error message when I go through the tutorial
Presenting
Video with the Flash Video Component in Dreamweaver 8. Using
the files provided in the tutorial.
Is the only workaround for this the one I found here?:
http://med.stanford.edu/irt/web/references/flash_video_installation.html.
Steps are under heading "Workaround for Locked Code insert error"
near bottom of page.
Any help is appreciated.

Embedding flash videos into Teaming 2.0 landing pages?
Hi All,
I was wondering whether it is possible to insert flash vidoes (swf, flv) into Teaming 2 and make them play on the landing pages and thus make them more attractive?
Any hints would be greatly appreciated!

Trouble importing .mov files into FCP...
Hello, all. Hope someone can help me solve this problem.
I just installed Final Cut Pro on my machine, much to my delight, and immediately set about attempting to edit a video project I was commissioned for. However, I quickly stumbled into a big problem: the files I'm attempting to edit (all .mov format) refuse to import properly into FCP. Despite the fact that they play flawlessly in Quicktime, when imported to FCP, they require an inordinate render time when placed in a sequence and, what's worse, do not render properly. The picture jumps frames in the preview, and, once rendered, a red flash is introduced in place of the missing frames, generating a seizure-inducing mess that is already giving me quite a headache.
How can I fix this problem? I am open to the idea of file conversion, but don't understand why .mov won't work. I've searched the Internet for answers and found little to no information on how to solve this. Please help!My problem, every single movie file that i import will show red in FCP, no exception.
That means that you are brining in QT file types that FCP does not work with natively.
I cant imagine what file/codec type FCP is designed for but I tried files from my phone, two different video cams and two different still cams with video option.
FCP is designed to work with professional cameras, and a slew of consumer types. It is NOT suited for raw cel phone video, and most video types that point and shoot cameras record. For those cameras you need to convert the footage to the type that FCP works with. If you look in the EASY SETUPS in the Final Cut Pro menu, you will see the codecs that FCP works with.
ALL of these BTW, work in imovie.
Because it is meant to be used with consumer formats. But note, it converts a lot of the footage to an Apple codec in the background...or does rendering in the background to a uniform codec. It is designed for people who just want to drop footage in and go. But lacks many professional attributes. BUT, if it works, use that.
Is it just a fact of life that I have to get all types of video codec conversion software to be able to use FCP with typical video files?
Just one...MPEG STREAMCLIP. Convert everything to DV/NTSC.
Or get Adobe Premiere Pro. It is designed to work with files natively.

Is there ever a time you would want/need to import a FLV into
Flash over
some other video format?
Thanks.I think this may be a compatibility issue... try exporting
the video as an AVI file. -
Can't export .flv from FCP!
Hello, I am new to these forums and to flash so any help is appreciated.
Here's my problem. I am trying to export a .flv from FCP. I know that I can't do it directly so I was able to get my hands on a copy of Flash CS4 from my boss. I installed it onto my computer but none of the export options have been updated to included the .flv option. I am pretty sure that I have to install a plugin or something but I am not sure what or where that info is?
Also, what will yield a better looking video? Exporting from FCP to Compressor? or Exporting a QT reference video and using Adobe Media Encoder?
Thanks for the help.Perhaps we're just arguing about semantics, but the fact is that it will play successfully in the flash viewer and I have been delivering h264 files to webdesigners for the last 6 months which are simply renamed with the flv extension. And if this is what the OP needs to do, it will work for him. Do some searching here and you'll see this is common practice. If you look at what formats the last few iterations of the flash player will accept, you'll see h264 is fine.

Help transporting a flash file from flash encoder into cs4 premiere.
Hello -
If anyone could help - it would be greatly appreciated.
I've been using Flash Media Encoder 3.1 to create LIVE videos.
Video Settings:
Logitech Pro 9000
Format VP6
15 FPS
800x450 input / output
Bitrate 500 kbps
I wanted to edit some of these videos but am having trouble importing these .FLVs into Premiere CS4
The file does import but problems occur -
1. The video is turned vertically instead of horizontally
2. No video actually plays and remains a black screen
I'm thinking it could possibly be the preset I'm bringing in with. Any help would be great!
Thanks so much -
LeoFormat is not supported by Adobe Premiere Instead of trying to edit encoded file, edit avi file

Video for Web in the Flash '.flv' format
I produce alot of content for the web...I usually work in Premiere Pro 2 >>Export to an .avi (DV NTSC) format then open in Flash Video Encoder and output using the ON2P codec >>Upload to web server for streaming
Done
Lately I have been on tour and I have the MacBook Pro 17 with Final Cut Studio and the Flash Video Encoder as my NLE system/workflow...
The problem is that the encoded video has gliches and lines in it! I dunno why
I have tried re encoding at least 4 diff times but each time its the same result...
The difference can be seen by looking at the video encoded using the premiere pro 2 system at http://www.videovaulttv.com
And the video using the Final Cut Studio system at http://www.youngmoneyent.com/av.html
Any ideas on what I can do?Capture into FCP 5.1.2
Export - QT movie (Self Contained)
Import - Flash Video Encoder 8
Export - On2P / 500k / Audio 64k / 15 fps / 364 x
(constrained setting chooses)
import into dreamweaver, preview,
crappy file is played
OK, I don't see anything wrong with those settings, they are similiar to what I use. What are your sequence setting in FCP? Does the video look good there?
You may want to try a different encoder, I know that Sorenson has a trial, and see if it works.

HELP PLZ Importing stereo sound into FCP brings it in mono and not linked!?
Hi, I am needing to import some sound which is stereo. On the flash card it came on I have channel 1 and channel 2...now being primarily a avid editor im used to selecting the both clips and it links together to make one when imported. I have found when I import these into FCP it brings them up as seperate mono tracks...I need them to be linked as i'll be doing multiclips for A and B cameras....
Also in my tracks section it says 2A for both audio tracks...Is there something im missing or I need to do in order to get it to work.
Thanks for the helpHi, could you be more specific? I have tried marking in points on both channels 1 + 2 at the clapper board...I then dropped them onto the sequence separately and then selected that...then did the Stereo pair thing...however its not doing it...what is it im doing wrong?
Sorry to be pain...its all a little alien to me at the moment...
