Flash forces install of McAfee

I go to:
http://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html
I click on:
Get the latest version
Download the most recent version of Adobe Flash Player
It DOES NOT give me an option to deselect McAfee
This give me:
Adobe Flash Player 11.8.800.94 (16.9 MB)
Your system: Windows 64-bit , English, Firefox
http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/
which downloads and installs McAfee without anywhere giving me the option to deselect McAfee.
I do not expect, and I do not want, Adobe to install a competitor's product to the security software vendor that *I* chose to put on my computer.
It is not reasonable on the part of Adobe to force my selection, against my will, of a competitor's security software.  Such duplicate installation often causes security problems!

As if it were not enough to receive constant flash player updates anouncements, the last one came with a surprise. This time Adobe didn't allow me to choose whether to install mcafee or not (btw shame on you Adobe for making me to have to uncheck that box every time). A pop up window shown up with the download status of both Flash player update and mcafee, and installed it without asking. Why should I have to loose my time having to uninstall mcafee? Why should I have to loose my time having to uncheck that box every other time? How do I know Mcafee has not left anything in my computer after uninstall? I have my own antivirus, so please, just stop annoying your users with that kind of annoying behaviour.
PS: I don't install anything automatically before checking how it was for other users, so save your advices on enable updates automatically.
SHAME ON YOU!

  • Forced install of McAfee

    What happed to the option to opt out of installing McAfee?
    There used to be a way to disable the McAfee from automatically installing with Adobe Flash & Reader. I just installed flash, and McAfee Security Scan Plus was forcefully installed. I retraced my steps to make sure I didn't miss the disable option and there was none.
    Tricking people into installing programs they don't want was bad form back when RealNetworks used to play that trick. I've always been bothererd that Adobe stoops that low, but to force the install without asking is just unexcusable.

    If you downloaded Flash Player from the standard location http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ then you WILL have the option to decline the bundled install:
    If you download the installer from Mike's link above (which is posted several dozen times in this forum every day), then you will not get any bundled software.

  • Forced installation of McAfee during download of updates

    Why does Adobe force installation of McAfee while downloading their latest update?  Is there another product i can switch to and uninstall Adobe Flash Player?

    If you have Acrobat, rather than the free Adobe Reader, there is no offer of Macafee, so far as I know; you've been scammed.
    If you have the free Reader you can turn it off with an option like this:
    but if you didn't get that I strongly suspect a scam. There are a lot of fake Reader updates out there and I'd be more worried about the things it didn't mention...

  • Flash Player and Bundled McAfee

    Today I rebooted my computer after a Windows Update and got a dialog box saying that a new version of Adobe Flash Player was available, asking me if I wanted to upgrade.
    I clicked "Yes" at which it took me to Adobe's Flash Player site and had me download an executable. After downloading the executable I double clicked it to begin the install. A dialog box opened up informing me that Adobe Flash Player was being installed. The same box had a second progress bar below the Adobe Flash Player install progress bar. This second bar was for some McAfee security product. There was never any prompt to ask me if I wanted the McAfee program installed. There was no check box to turn off its installation.
    This was a completely automatic process from the point of double clicking the install file downloaded from Adobe - never pausing for any input from me until the installation of both Adobe Flash Player and the McAfee security product was complete.
    I find it harder and harder to hold back my growing hatred of Adobe. I was among the earliest users of Photoshop and have always cheered on this company, stuck with it through various iterations of Photoshop, learned to love several other outstanding products from them including Illustrator, After Effects and Premiere, which I also frequently use.
    But they are destroying all that goodwill they created by the shady practice of bundling malware like McAfee products with an essential upgrade to Adobe Flash Player. If I want to maintain security (of this otherwise very insecure product, Adobe Flash Player, I am required to update it to the most recent version. But doing so installs products like McAfee which I did not ask for and do not want on my computer, without my permission.
    If there is anyone from Adobe reading this, please desist. Do not treat your customers like scum. Do not install software on their computers without their permission. This is a bad business practice and is destroying your brand, which has got to be worth more than however many pennies McAfee pays you to bundle their malware.
    Thank you.

  • CS4 Master Collection Install - Can't Select Flash to Install

    I'm trying to install the Master Collection on my PC here at work, however when I get to the option to select the "Easy Install", or "Custom Install", Flash CS4 isn't selectable to "Check" to install. It doesn't change if I got to Easy, or Custom. Both have Flash "Grayed Out". I had the trial of Flash CS4 installed, but I uninstalled it, thinking that it was causing the issue, but it still doesn't give the option to install it.
    Any help would be appreciated.

  • How can I get JavaScript to detect if flash is installed and then load a different URL?

    Hi, I've made two versions of the same site, one in flash and one in HTML, but I want the browser to detect what version of flash is installed, if any and then load the appropriate version of my site. I used to have it so that it displays a HTML message within the same window dependant on the whether the user has the right flash version or not and that used to work perfectly, so I think it must be to do with the changes I made to the if and else statements within the checkFlash() function.
    Here's how I've made it so far:
    <head>
         <script language="javascript"> AC_FL_RunContent = 0; </script>
         <script language="javascript"> DetectFlashVer = 0; </script>
         <script src="scripts/AC_RunActiveContent.js" language="javascript"></script>
         <script language="JavaScript" type="text/javascript">
              var requiredMajorVersion = 9;
              var requiredMinorVersion = 0;
              var requiredRevision = 24;
              var flashContent;
              function checkFlash() {
                   var hasRightVersion = DetectFlashVer(requiredMajorVersion, requiredMinorVersion, requiredRevision);
                        if (hasRightVersion) {
                             window.open("http://www.yahoo.com");
                        else {
                             window.open("http://www.google.com");
         </script>
    </head>
    <body onLoad="checkFlash()">
    </body>
    but the checkFlash() function isn't working for some reason, please help, much appreciated.

    Sounds like you need a simple jQuery effect:

    How can I tell if Adobe Flash is installed properly and upto date version?
    Hi Guys and girls, hopefully an easy question for you.
    I installed Adobe flash and lightsource last night, cos I needed it to run Weebly website maker.
    Anyone know if Weebly runs correctly on 10.9.1??
    I have a new comp, so no previous version of flash on here, I am running OSX 10.9.1
    I just want to know How I can tell if Adobe Flash is installed properly and is the upto date version?
    Where do I go in the comp to find out,
    If I type in Adobe flash into search it only brings up flash manager, when I click this it is an uninstaller program.
    Lightsource shows in finder apps.
    If I type in flash player it shows up in plugins with a version number see screen shot.
    Where would I go to check for updates for things like flash on my comp?
    Thanks Team,

  • Uninstalled IE with flash player, installed firefox and added flash player - doesn't work!

    Hey guys,
    I have just used Revo Uninstaller Pro to remove IE 9 (I think ... it's the standard built in IE taht comes with my Win7 Home Premium 64 bit OS).  I had flash player installed in IE.  Upon uninstalling all flash components from my computer using Revo, I did an "advanced" search to find all leftover registry entries and files/folders associated with Flash.  While doing this, Revo had warned me of some files that "have recently been added" (I believe since initial installation of Flash), and gave me the option of deleting these one at a time.  I cannot remember what these files included, but looking at a posting from another person, i seem to recognize some files that I *may* have deleted while removing with Revo:
    Flash10d.ocx
    Flash10e.ocx
    FlashUtil10e.exe
    GetFlash.man
    install.log
    swflash.inf
    uninstall_activeX.exe
    (again, I have no idea if ANY of the above were the actual ones I deleted, but I seem to remember seeing a couple of these at least listed to me as options to delete)
    I proceeded to remove ALL files from my computer.
    Then, upon installing Firefox and, subsequently installing flash on it, I noticed that some flash websites load and work properly, whereas other ones don't.  I also been to the adobe confirmation page stating taht I have successfully installed and am running Adobe Flash player.  Is this simply a case of missing one key component in flash?
    Before the entire uninstall mission I did, I remember revo as listing more than 1 Flash programs installed.  I believe I had seen two flash 11 programs installed in Revo, which I thought were just simply duplicate installations.  I vaguely remember one of them being listed as Flash player 11 and the other as Flash player 11 activex?  (both were removed off my system).
    Are these files different and did I, in fact, need both of these installed?
    Anyway, I have no idea where to go from here.  Help please!
    Thanks!

    So what Flash Player version do you have currently installed?

    It is best to go to the source, Adobe, to get their software and updates. Sometimes malware can infect sites with messages that appear legitimate, but will, instead, install malware/virus/trojan on your system. Read the following carefully to install and/or update Adobe Flash.
    There are 2 versions of Adobe Flash; an '''ActiveX version''' for IE only and a '''Plugin version''' for most other browsers including Firefox. On a Windows system, you should always update both individually. '''''You do not have Adobe Flash (aka "Shockwave Flash" in Add-ons > Plugins) installed.'''''
    #'''Using Firefox''', go to the following direct download link and SAVE the download to your desktop so you can find it later: http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe
    #When the download is finished, close Firefox (File > Exit '''''OR''''' Firefox button > Exit)
    #Click or double-click on the file you just saved to your desktop
    #*In the installation window that appears, click the box to the left of "I have read and...." to place a check mark in the box
    #*The "Install" button in the lower right corner will now be highlighted, click it.
    #*The installation is quick.

  • Swf files won't play, only 1 version of flash is installed and working per adobe website

    When someone send me a link leading to an swf file, Firefox opens and flashes a blank screen. I've checked the forum and only one version of flash is installed. Flash is working based on the adobe site and non of them open. Here is a list of links:

    http://www.jokeroo.com/bin/player.swf?5f9f_f369
    I've looked at the about:config and about:plugins as menioned as solutions in prior posts but my configuration looks good. Any ideas?

    Do you mean that Firefox tries to download the file to the temp folder?<br />
    That usually happens if a file needs to be send to an external program. If a file is played embedded in a browser tab then the file should go to the cache.
    You can try to uninstall and reinstall Flash.<br />
