Flash FP6_PPC_CDK for Flash 7 PPC

Hi all,
I'm sure I'm not the first one to notice this, but when I
create an application with Flash Player 6 Pocket PC Components, but
publish it as Flash 7 for Flash Player 7 Pocket PC, some functions
don't work:
- combobox.setEnabled(false) doesn't disable the combobox
- the "Change Handler" has no effect.
But as soon as I publish it for Flash Player 6, components
work fine.
Does anyone know what the reason is? And even better, a
solution? I'm missing the "Change Handler" function.
I prefer to export to Flash 7, as XML-operations seem to work
faster than Flash 6.

My impression is it is inadvisable to use the desktop
components.
The best answer, though, is for you to test on real target
machines and make
your own judgment call.
The few times I have needed a component-like object, I've
built my own
custom, less sophisticated, less feature-rich but much more
responsive
objects. They may be nowhere near as good as the components,
at least on
paper, but the user experience is better. I'd recommend you
do the same
wherever you can for mobile development.

New Draft-N Card for Legacy PowerBook (PPC based)

Any words yet or recommendation on a wireless card for legacy PowerBook (PPC-based) systems? I know the newer systems have the updated AirPort Extreme (using the Draft-N enabler), but what about others who have older PowerBooks with a user-installable card. Will Apple be creating a new wireless card for use in these systems? Or is there a 3rd Party compliant card to use in the PC Slot of the PB G4 that is Draft-N and works with the new AirPort Extreme base station N?

I doubt it.
When Airport was upgraded the last time (from 802.11b to 802.11g), the older hardware was stuck with integrated cards that could not be upgraded.
Is this Apple being mean? Not really.
The new n hardware needs two or three antennas to work. Older laptops with 802.11g have only one antenna built into the case - so you can't simply upgrade the card.
The only way to upgrade is if a third-party manufacturer produces a mac-compatible version. Which could happen. But it would be the sort of card that sticks out of the PC-Card slot.
It's not ideal, but remember that laptops get upgraded all the time, and you can't upgrade the processor or the screen either.

copy the downloaded cab file to you ppc, then double click it. you
don't use activesync.

Looking for Nvidea GeForce 6600 OR Similar Graphics Card for Quad G5 PPC

Wishing a Happy New Year to yo'all!
Was wondering whether someone might help me out with a minor issue I'm having...
I have recently acquired a Quad 2.5GHz PPC G5 (with PCIe). When I bought it, it came installed with a NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 graphics card, which works just fine. Heard these cards are very good for 3D rendering, etc...
However... As I am an audio engineer, I don't need a flashy graphics card... Instead I need "flashy" sound cards...
I have two PCIe UAD-2 Quad cards for all my UAD plugin needs within Logic Pro... And I have PCIe Symphony X card for my Apogee (AD16X & DA16X) front end sound conversion. All which sound and work very well... So far so good!
But here's the problem... My Quad PPC has 4 PCIe slots, which should be fine for my arrangement i.e. one slot for graphics card, one for PCIe Symphony card, two for UAD-2 Quad cards... BUT the damnable NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 takes up two PCIe slots!!!
I have looked on line to find out what the Quad 2.5GHz G5 PPC was originally supplied with: an Apple OEM Nvidea GeForce 6600. However these are rare and hard to come by now-a-days... And I can't wait forever till one pops up for sale.
So... Can anyone recommend to me a graphics card that will work in the Quad 2.5GHz G5 PPC... AND take up only one PCIe slot and be able to run a 30 inch DVI Apple display i.e. it needs two DVI ports???
I'd even do an out right swap for the NVIDIA Quadro FX 4500 and a good condition and working Apple OEM Nvidea GeForce 6600!? Heard this is more than a fair deal...

You can buy a Geforce 6600LE at We Love Macs. They aren't cheap, though.
This eBay seller has several of the 6600LE cards, at a much better price. The seller is very reliable (from experience) and carries the positive feedback to support my recommendation.
This 7800GT is also a good possibility. It takes only one slot, and provides much better performance than the 6600LE.
This flashed 7800GT is also an option. A flashed card is one that has the PC ROM replaced with Mac ROM. Again, this seller knows his stuff.....
As with the 6600LE, the 7800GT has a dual link DVI to support the 30" ACD.
After you get a replacement card, might try and get a few quid for the FX 4500 on eBay.
An original will sell better than the flashed models that are selling there.

External hard drive for both a PPC and Intel Mac?

I have 2 LaCie Hard Drives (500GB & 750GB) that I'd like to use for backing up my 2 laptops and for storing photo and music files.
When I got the MacBook Pro, I partitioned the 500GB drive into 3 volumes and used SuperDuper! to make "bootable" copies of the MBP on one volume, theiBook on one volume, and put photo files on the third. I don't know/can't remember how I dealt with the directions below from Disk Utility and I fear I may have done the impossible or at least done the wrong thing.
"If you will use a volume as a Mac OS X startup disk, click Options and choose the appropriate partition scheme. To use a volume to start up an Intel-based Mac, choose the GUID partition scheme. To use a volume to start up a PowerPC-based Mac, choose the Apple partition scheme."
As I ask these questions, I find myself getting tongue-tied so please bear with me and read on...
#1 - Is it *even possible* to do what I want and have the bootable copies of both of these laptops on the same HD since one is PPC and the other Intel? If the answer if yes, it's OK then the rest of this is moot.
#2 - I can easily delete one or the other laptop backup from the 500 LaCie and put it on the virgin 750 and partiton it - problem is, is there a way to know how I partitioned the 500 HD so I won't have to redo it -I don't want to have to recopy the thousands of photo files already on the HD. If I knew how it was partitioned - Intel or PPC - I could just delete the appropriate laptop and move it to the other LaCie, assuming I have to.
#3 - And, is it possible to use a drive that has been partitioned for PPC or Intel with the other type computer - will I be able to access the jpg photo files from both the MBP and my G4 both of which are Tiger no matter which way the HD is partitioned? Now I as able to do this, but as I said, I don't remember which way I partitioned the HD - all I remember is that I did choose to include OS 9 drivers since I still use Classic and OS 9 on the G4. ( I have yet another LaCie that I use exclusively to back up my G4 and it is not part of this issue)

Select the existing drive in the Disk Utility and find the Partition Map Scheme text at the bottom of the window.

ITunes for iMac G5 PPC...beyond 4.7.1?

I'm working with my iMac PPC G5, PowerMac8,2, 2 GHz machine running OS X 10.4.11, and find I can't access the iTunes store while running iTunes software 4.7.1. My software updater tells me there are no new updates for my computer, so I'm trying to figure out if that version is the last one that will run on this machine.
It's a little frustrating to not be able to upgrade iTunes to a version useable with the store, but I just wanted to confirm that there's not some updating problem that could be fixed to get me back with the more recent versions.
I would appreciate any ideas about this problem.

Thanks for this idea. I've tried it, and here are the two things that happened as a result.
I downloaded and installed the new iTunes version you suggested. When it was installed and I tried to open the iTunes store, I first received the following message: "Your request could not be completed. The item you've requested is not currently available in the U.S. store." Then the computer, which has been having some difficulties with unexpected shut downs (see my other question at https://discussions.apple.com/message/20777448#20777448 ) shut down and wouldn't restart for maybe eight hours or so.
Finally, I got the computer to start up again, and when I did and managed to get iTunes open, I received the same message. I checked my date and time and time zone, all are as they should be. My music is in the new iTunes...no problem there. But I still can't access the store.
What's next? Any ideas?

Has anybody compiled OpenSSL for 64 bit PPC?

We want to use OpenSSL as a 64 bit application under Mac OS X 10.4.7 over PPC G5 hardware.
Has anybody had experience compiling OpenSSL for this architecture?
Any special clues for building a working 64 bit library for PPC?
Why doesn't Apple support this? I would imagine performance would be better on crypto operations.

Building InDesign CS4 plug-ins once for both MAC PPC and MAC Intel

Hi All,
I would like to know if there is a possibility to build the indesign plugins once for both PPC and Intel on MAC. Right now I'm forced to build my plugins twice: on the PPC machine and on the Intel Machine.
I tried to build the SDK example Basic Persist Interface on my MAC Intel machine and then i placed it on my MAC PPC and it failed to load.
is there any configuration I need to specify so the XCode linker will link for both machines?
I'm using:

Leopard 10.5.8
XCode 3.0
Architectures: i386
Valid Architectures: ppc67 ppc7400 ppc 970 i386 x86_64 ppc

Why doesn't the 7.2.2 update work for the Quad PPC?

since we've discussed being upset about this, I thought I would pose this rather simple 'technical' question.
also, is it possible to adapt the universal binary to PPC (using X-code or something)? any programmer people that can answer this?

Definitely same codebase (that's not the point, however). But, there may still be certain pieces of code that need to be added in via a compiler directive (not to mention other compiler directives) that is specifically geared to the PPC. Again, more than just a simple matter of a straight compile.
There could be other issues as well, such as the lop-sized CPU-usage issues on the PPC that may need to be resolved, which may not be apparent on the multi-core Intels due to differences in design. This problem is bad enough at times on a dual processor G5.

Compiling exiv2 library for use on PPC help

I need to convert the exiv2 metadata library to be compatible for the Mac. I have managed to use x Code to do this for OS X 10.5x on Intel machines but not for use on 10.4x on PPC machines and have failed in my attempts to do so.
If anybody has access to a similar setup which would enable them to compile exiv2 for use on a PPC please could they help.

If you want you can try what I'm going to use it for, its only got an Intel version right now and that's what I need the PPC version for:

Replacement for classic on PPC Macs

Since classic is dead in 10.5 I was wondering if anyone knows of any other compatibility layer/virtualization/emulation software for running OS 9 programs? I don't really need an emulator since my laptop is a PPC machine.

Keep Tiger on a bootable clone or second internal drive.
My G5 has Tiger on one drive, Leopard on the other.
Your PPC can still boot into OSIX, right? You are just concerned with no support in a virtual environment.
Just save the Tiger on another drive.

Can I use same USB drive for Intel and PPC backup?

Hi, I have a USB hdd that was used for TV recording but failed on that so I reformatted it as Mac OS extended journaled with 6 partitions (GUID), and using SuperDuper, cloned Lion from a Macbook Air and Tiger from my eMac into different partitions, with the idea of using it as an extra backup.
Tested the USB drive on Disk Utility verify disk function and it said all 6 partitions appear OK. Can boot the MBA from the USB drive (although slow) but the eMac does not show the disk image on the USB drive as an optional restart item. I have eMac backed up on a separate Firewire drive but would like to use the USB drive as a second line of defense.
My question is, would I be able to restore from the Tiger dmg on the USB drive, given that it is GUID and not Apple partition scheme. Would I have to reformat it to Apple partition scheme. Also, how would you go about a restore from the USB drive if the eMac's OS was kaput?

You can't store a clone of an Intel-based Mac and a clone of a PowerPC-based Mac on the same drive.
That's because an Intel-based Mac can start from a GUID partition table, but a PowerPC-based Mac can only start if your USB drive is using Apple Partition Map instead of GUID. In your case, you have to buy another external drive to make a clone of the PowerPC-based Mac or the Intel-based Mac.
To change the partition map of your USB drive:
1. Open Disk Utility (it's in Applications > Utilities folder), and select your USB drive in the sidebar.
2. Go to Partition tab, and press "Options" button, where you can choose the partition map you want: GUID, MBR or Apple Partition Map. Note that you won't be able to start an Intel-based Mac from a drive that uses Apple Partition Map

How to set icon for .lnk on PPC

I'm using the Mysaifu JVM and I would like to know how to set an icon of my choice for the shortcut file to my application (.lnk). Currently, the Mysaifu character shows up as the icon.
On a previous post, I found out how to run my java application using the following text in my .lnk file:

I don't think you're going to have much luck modifying the original link, since the jvm.exe is what the link is pointing to. Windows Mobile is getting its icon from the jvm.exe, and not the DeliveryOrganizer jar file.
However, you might look into creating a separate .lnk file, that then calls your original .lnk file that executes the jvm.exe. See if Windows Mobile allows you to modify the new .lnk file's properties...
