Flash Frames On Incoming Video

I have the strangest problem with flash frames I've ever seen. Whenever I make a cut at a scene change in my footage I get a flash frame on the incoming cut. I immediately assumed it was a field so I lopped off the first frame and... no luck. I actually have to tim off the first 3 to 4 frames! to rid the cut of the flash.
My sequence of events: I ripped supplied footage from DVD using Handbrake & de-interlacing into an progressive, Mpeg4 file. Then, using Compressor, rendered it into a progressive, ProRes 422 HQ Quicktime. However, the ProRes 422 HQ Quicktime had this bizarre brightness change when I hit play in FCP6. It was annoying so I used compressor again to transcode the ProRes 422 files into progressive H.264 Quicktimes. They seem to play & edit fine... except for this issue. Unfortunately, this issue is a showstopper. There's no way I can continue to edit with this media doing this.
I've searched the forum for similar posts but none of the problems ever seemed solved, and certainly none of the solutions suggested are working for me; I've trashed preferences, trashed rendered files & re-rendered them, etc. I have zoomed in to verify that there are no extraneous frames. Also, if I import the ProRes 422 Quicktimes and edit with them, they don't seem to have this flash frame issue.
Anybody else seen or heard of this issue? Why would an errant field exist across 3-4 frames? Anybody have any suggestions? Any and all help would be greatly appreciated.

Handbrake is the wrong tool for this...MPEG STREAMCLIP or DVDxDV Pro are the better options. I use DVDxDV...REALLY good with non-Hollywood movie type DVDs. Can extract to DV or Uncompressed...whatever you need. MPEG-4 like H.264 isn't meant to be used as an editing codec, it is designed for final delivery. That might be why you are getting the odd flash frames...the way it is compressed.
As for ProRes brightening...that means that your system needs to reduce the quality of the image in order to play it back without dropping frames...that is one symptom. Another is really low quality playback. To see what you really working with it is good to have a capture card and external monitor connected so you can tell what things really look like...as the computer monitors are playing back a low res proxie.

  • Webcam/incoming video not working with flash 11

I use a chat room which uses adobe flash for webcams to video conference. I've used adobe flash for webcam purposes for years without an issue but all of a sudden my outgoing video/audio doesn't work and incoming audio/video is very choppy. My webcam freeze frames on the first image it sees, and incoming audio/video just skips like a broken CD. I've tried uninstalling/reinstalling flash, uninstalling reinstall chrome, different browers...but the problem only exists in adobe flash. My webcam works fine in non-flash programs (i.e. Skype), as well as incoming audio/video. I believe this problem occured directly after the latest flash update. What can I do?
    Specs:
    2005 Dell Inspiron
    OS: Windows XP
    32 Bit
Browser: Chrome (but tried also firefox, IE and still didnt work)
    Webcam: MS Lifecam VX-3000

Here are the steps required to install the previous version
    1. Uninstall Flash Player using the stand alone uninstaller using these instructions
    2. Download the previous version of Flash Player here: Flash Player 11.1.102.63
Note: This downloads a .zip file that contains all of the different releases of Flash Player for that version (ie. Windows, Mac, etc.)
    3. Extract the contents of this zip file
    4. Depending on your operating system and browser, go into either the 64 or 32 bit folders (do not use the debug folder) then double click the following filename to start the installation:
    Internet Explorer for Windows 7 64-bit: flashplayer11_1r102_63_winax_64bit.exe
    Other browsers for Windows 7 64-bit: flashplayer11_1r102_63_win_64bit.exe
Internet Explorer for all Windows 32-bit systems: flashplayer11_1r102_63_win_32bit.exe
Other browsers for all Windows 32-bit systems: flashplayer11_1r102_63_winax_32bit.exe
    Mac OSX: flashplayer11_1r102_64_mac.dmg

  • How do I get a lip sync flash frame sequence to encode properly

I built a flash frame sequ
ence in Premiere.  It is 2 seconds long with the
first two frame white and the remaining time black
frames. This is repeated for 1 minute.  If I encode it in non-compressed AVI it is correct.  If I use
MPEG2 or H.264 to build a transport stream, I see two white frames
as I would expect, then black frames for the rest of the sequence.  Over 15 seconds, I will start to see three frames, gray, white and gray again.  Eventually, the white or gray frame starts two frames later than it should.  I built this as a 720P/60 sequence with non-drop frame timecode.  I have tried all I frames and the same issue occurs.  The GOP structure does not seem to have an effect.  There is no audio in this stream.  It as if it cannot handle the quick and short transistion from white to black.  There are some advanced settings for MPEG 2 but I cannot see where they are explained in the Premier help document.  I need this stream to measure latency on a piece of video equipment.
    Thanks
    Ralph

    Bill,
Your answer gave me a hint to what was happening.  I'm fairly new to Premier and took for granted that the preset I chose at the begining of the program would carry through to the sequence, wrong!  I found another discussion that talked about resetting the properties of a sequence.  I expanded the project box a little and saw that it said my sequence was 59.94 frame rate not 60.  I followed the instructions on the other discussion.  File, new sequence, general, editing mode, and frame rate.  The frame rate was set to 59.94 not 60.  I reset it to 60, closed all the menues and deleted the original 59.94 sequence.  The new sequence I just created shows a 60 Hz frame rate.  I exported my lip sync project as an MPEG 2 transport stream and it was correct according to our MPEG analyzer.
    Thanks again for the help.

  • Flash frame problem fcpx.

When I drop clips into my timeline (W) or when I copy and paste a clip from the timeline or hold "option" and copy a clip and drag it elsewhere. I always get these flash frames. Sometimes they are so small I can't expand the timeline enough to delete them. Anyone having the same problem?

After I left the last message, things started getting even wierder. First, video scrubbing stopped working--nothing, wouldn't scrub at all. So I did a restart, and then video scrubbing started responding but would cause strobing flash frames as I was scrubbing. Much more than just a few frames between clips, but all throughout. At the same time my laptop fans were kicked into high, and the computer was getting very hot.
I looked at my activity monitor, but the cpu wasn't working more than maybe a fifth of capacity. I then checked my dock and noticed that I had Quicktime 7 Pro running. I had used it to trim a video and output an audio sample from it. Just an old workflow habit. I shut down Quicktime and the fans quieted down, and then the scrubbing/strobing stopped happening. It was scrubbing smoothly again.
I remembered I had previously duplicated the project I have been having the problems with, so I went back to the earlier copy. It still had the two story lines, with no black or flash frames yet. So I repeated the same process that had caused the flash frames to appear, dragging the clips from the secondary storyline down to the main storyline, and deleating the previous main storyline clips. I then dragged a buch of clips around, and added more with the 'e' command.
No flash frames or black frames. No fans running on high. No overheating.
I'm pretty sure that I started Quicktime 7 immediately after I duplicated the project, and it was still running when I made the changes to the duplicate that started exhibiting problems. And now with Quicktime off, I can't get it to repeat the flash-frame-effect. So it looks like, in my case at least, the cause of the problems was having FCPX and Quicktime 7 running at the same time.

  • QT movie flash frame

I'm in 8.5 and am seeing a flash frame (of nothing) when the
frame of my QT movies appears. This doesn't happen if I don't
choose direct to stage, but the video from my movie also doesn't
    play (only audio)
    Any suggestions?
    Thanks,
    Carrie

This problem is fairly common. The easy solution that usually
    works is
to set it up so that when the QT sprite 1st appears, have it
    off the
stage for 1 frame. Then, move it into place. The flash will
    now happen
when it can not be seen, and the video will appear to start
    at the
beginning, since the viewer will only have missed the 1st
    1/15th of a
    second or so.

  • Getting choppy footage when rendering plus "flash" frames

    Hi all,
I've been using Final Cut Pro 7 for about two years for casual video editing. I use H.264 files with a framerate of 24fps and I always set sequences to fit the native format of the video files I use in them. Today, I noticed an odd "bug" when rendering video files. It's a bit hard to explain, but I'll try my best.
Let's say I take a 5-second clip from an hour-long video file and place it in the timeline. I cut off a bit of the end and add some keyframes to adjust the opacity. I then render this small piece. However, upon playback, the footage appears to "stagger", and even the playhead appears to pause for a moment before continuing on. This is confusing to me, because the footage is rendered properly, so shouldn't it play normally, like the unedited segment of the clip?
I've also had a problem with getting "flashes" of a frame that isn't meant to be in said clip. When I scroll over the clip using the playhead, this "flashing" frame is nowhere to be found.
    I'm using Mountain Lion (10.8.5).
Can anyone lend a hand with this? Thanks in advance.

David and Ian are absolutely correct in their posts about the problems with trying to work with h264 quicktimes in fcp.  But the issues you are having may also have something to do with your frame rate.
Do you mean 24 fps or 24P?  24p is actually 23.976 frames per second.  Most US video is 29.97 fps and 23.976 fps is a relatively easy conversion to 29.97 fps using "pulldown."  Early DSLR's sometimes shot exactly 24 or 30 frames per second.  New DSLR's now shoot 23.976 and 29.97.  Unfortunately, spec sheets don't always describe the frame rate accurately.   24 fps is not a standard video frame rate and there can be problems putting a 24 fps clip in a 24p sequence.
Here's a user tip describing these frame rate issues in greater detail
    https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-4731
If any of this isn't clear, post back.  It's complicated.

  • Flash-Frames in Quicktime?

Greetings. I'm exporting a sequence from Final Cut Pro (The project was shot in HDV) to a standard-def Quicktime. I have noticed in the final QT that there are a couple of flashframes in the video. I double checked the sequence, and they are not there, just in the QT file.
    Any advice?
    Many thanks in advance.
    G5   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

did you export using compressor or qt conversion? I would use compressor to do your conversion. look under the advanced formats to select your desired standard def setting. also what can happen is you may have a field that is a flash "frame" i.e. field 2 may be the culprit and you won't see that in your sequence due to the frame based nature of FCP. if you import the standard def conversion you did into a timeline with the appropriate settings and you don't see the flash frames it's due to the frame based situation, if you do see them it's a corrupted conversion. try compressor

  • Creating Flash frames

I need to insert white flash frames between edits. I'm working with FCP6.0.4
    Thanks.

If you actually want to insert white frames, go to the Effects tab next to the browser, the twirl down to Video Generators > Matte > Color Solid and drag that onto the timeline. In the Controls tab, set it to white.

  • Telepresence client 4.8, No incoming video / Not receiving audio on a Mac - Windows is OK

Hi, I'm using the Jabber Telepresence client v4.8.8.18390 on a Mac - Yosemite 10.10.2
It used to work fine, but something has changed and now I can't receive video or audio. The call seems to initiate, local camera is in use, but then get the messages "no incoming video" and "not receiving audio", as shown in the attachment.
It works fine on my windows client, v4.8, so I know my account is fine, and i'm using the same settings to connect to the server - so this seems to be a local issue.
If i downgrade to v 4.4 then I can receive audio, but still no video, and 4.6 or 4.8 are both broken in the same way.
I think this may be something along the lines of conflicting / bad codecs installed on the mac - but can't find a way of tracking that down.
Any help would be hugely appreciated.
    Thanks
    Sam

Does your camera/audio/mic work with other software such as Skype or YouTube, etc?  Are you sure this is a Jabber issue versus a PC problem?

  • Please help! i need to make multiple custom shaped frames for different videos in one scene and cant work out how!

    hi there!
im really stuck on this and cant work it out i hope you guys can help! i have been trying to make a single shot or scene whatever you want to call it with multiple videos playing all at the same time in it but i want them all to have their own custom shape. i know that i can just put them together into one frame and play them at once but they are all the original rectangle shape they where filmed in and i could put a mask over each one to make it a circle but i want to make each one a custom shape for example if you where to make a face out of 4 videos and one was the shape of the main part of the face one was the eyes one for the hair and one for the mouth now i would have to make the shape of each video the right shape for the corresponding body part then place them on top of each other and then i would have a face made from looping videos. i cannot work out how to make the frames of each video a custom shape after searching tutorials please can someone help me with this it would be greatly appreciated as it is a collage project. thanks very much for your time in the matter Josh.

ok thanks yea thats helped alot im new to this so thats why it seems basic to you but not me. i have tryed to find out through tutorials but could work it out. im now able to do this but i want to draw my mask free hand and it seems you can only place points with the pen tool? is this the only way to make the shape of my mask? or example in photoshop which i know well i can use a paint brush and paint any shape i want to make a mask but i cant see how to do that in after effects? any help on this would be greatly appreceated. thanks josh

  • IChat - incoming video chat not working

iChat - I can make an outgoing video call but incoming video invitations are not connecting.

    Hi,
Check your Firewall and or router.
The Firewall (If ON) works on the basis that you can call out but the incomming stuff gets Blocked if an App is NOT allowed.
The same can be true of the router.
If you don't specifically Open the Ports it can take the outgoing part to "open" them and accept incomiong data on the same port.
The Mac Firewall is in System Preferences > Security > Firewall
If ON you need the Options or Advanced button depending on OS version
In here you need to had "Allowed Signed Software and added iChat to the List.
In the router you may need to engage  UPnP if the device has it.
If not then you need to open:-
iChat 4 and 5 Ports for iChat
    Service
    TCP Ports
    UDP Ports
    iChat over AIM

    No ports
    A/V Ports
    No ports

Note this is the iChat 4 and 5 Range Add port 5060 UDP for iChat 2 and 3 and extend the group of 10 to 16384-16403 (20 ports)  iChat 4 and 5 also uses an undeclared Random port to do the Screen Sharing part and works if you can and do use UPnP (Or Port Mapping Protocol) to open ports in your routing device.

  • Use an incoming video feed as camera source for Adaobe Connect

We are looking for a way to use an incoming video signal -
say, from a Skype video chat - as the "camera source" for an Adobe
Connect webcast. So instead of using the attached webcam, the host
of our meeting would be able to broadcast the Skype video stream.
We need to be able to do this in real time, to ensure we stayin
sync with a separate audio channel (being delivered outside of
    Adobe Connect).
Anyone have any idea how to do this? Thanks in advance for
    any help you can provide.

Another option for external video is a USB video capture
device. These have been around for some time, and let you connect
composite or S-Video sources to your PC. Works great with Connect
Pro. The box in front of me right now is an Airlink 101 model. I
use Firewire (IEEE1394) input from a professional camcorder for
most of my sessions, in order to get the best quality video (that
then gets squashed by the compressor ).

  • No incoming video and audio for new Jabber video account

We have registered a couple of jabber video account, but they all have the same issue, couldn't successfuly establish a call.
However, it seems working fine for old jabber video account.
    Anyone can help?

I have no incoming video for my Jabber account. I was doing some testing for one of my customers who had this issue. Here is what I found. I have a EX90 registered to VCS on a corporate network. I have my Jabber Express client I downloaded and installed. When I call to or from either I don't receive video on Jabber Express but I get audio from the EX90. I get Audio and video on the EX90 from Jabber. What I found when I was troubleshooting is that if you leave the call up for 30 seconds I finally start recieving video on Jabber from the EX90. After testing a few calls this happened every time. I then checked the call settings on both sides during the call. Both endpoints are experiencing 50% or so packet loss until the video started being sent to Jabber and then the packet loss dropped to 0. So I would assume there is something wrong on the Jabber Express end that is causing a 30 second or so delay when the video is being sent through the proxy. Has anyone else had this exact issue?
