Flash in Firefox performance is terrible compared to other browsers

I have been having this problem with Firefox for over a year now, and nothing changes. So many updates and this problem still persists. I have read several possible fixes for this issue, yet nothing works. It is strange that many users have complained about this issue and Mozilla has done nothing to fix it.
At the moment, I'm at the breaking point with this browser. Sometimes pages freeze while loading, and other browsers don't have this problem either. You mean to tell me that even Internet Explorer performs better than Firefox when it comes to watching videos online and loading pages without freezing?
I remember when I use to think the issue has a lot to do with my slow computer. After getting a better one with 8GB of RAM, the problem still shows its ugly head
You guys are joking. Either fix this long running problem, or exit the browser market.

Hello,
Try disabling graphics hardware acceleration. Since this feature was added to Firefox, it has gradually improved, but there still are a few glitches.
You might need to restart Firefox in order for this to take effect, so save all work first (e.g., mail you are composing, online documents you're editing, etc.).
Then perform these steps:
#Open Firefox ''Options'' window (''Preferences'' on Mac or Linux) as follows:
#* In Firefox 29.0 and above, click the menu button [[Image:New Fx Menu]] and select ''Options'' for Windows or ''Preferences'' on Mac or Linux.
#* In Firefox 28.0 and previous versions, click the orange Firefox button at the top left, then select the "Options" button, or, if there is no Firefox button at the top, go to Tools > Options.
#In the Firefox Options (or Preferences) window, click the ''Advanced'' tab, then select ''General''.
#In the settings list, you should find the ''Use hardware acceleration when available'' checkbox. Uncheck this checkbox.
#Now, restart Firefox and see if the problems persist.
Additionally, please check for updates for your graphics driver by following the steps mentioned in the following Knowledge base articles:
* [[Troubleshoot extensions, themes and hardware acceleration issues to solve common Firefox problems]]
* [[Upgrade your graphics drivers to use hardware acceleration and WebGL]]
Did this fix your problems? Please report back to us!
Thank you.

  • Why are flash games not working properly on Firefox, while they work perfectly on other browsers?

    I own a MacBook os x 10.5.8 Intel core duo.
    My problem started a few weeks ago, I tried playing a flash game, first it came up that i didnt have flash, which I did, so I ran an update but I already had the latest version.
    I gave up on the games on that page and went to newgrounds.com, but turns out everytime I try to play a game the controls wont work properly on any game.
    I thought it might be my flash, so I went to chrome and played the same game, no problems, to opera, no problems, to safari also no problems. So the problem is my firefox and the flash plug in? I already uninstalled it and re installed it, downloaded it again and followed every piece of advice I could find about this, nothing works.
    I appreciate some help with this matter, I like working with firefox, wouldnt want to change to other browsers.

    Hi gorgonzola357, there are some platform-specific differences between Windows 7 and MacOSX that may be relevant.
    Have you tried disabling the new protected mode in Flash 11.3, since that feature is currently being debugged? • Firefox performance SO SLOW on my Mac OS X 10.6 / Macbook Pro 2.4 Ghz / cable biz-class internet connection compared to other browsers

    Chrome works perfectly. Safari works perfectly. But Firefox 7 is WAY TOO SLOW - approx 1 minute+ to get from one website to another. With the other browsers, approx 1 second. All Firefox plug-ins turned off. Seems broken or like something is running in the background. For a couple of years I've been using Firefox to develop websites, nothing like it, the best, but all of a sudden i cannot get it to work properly. please help.

  • I get error messages when I try to visit certain websites using Mozilla Firefox but not when I use other browsers

    About two days ago I noticed that when I tried to access certain websites using Firefox I always got this error message; "The connection was reset". I initially thought it was a problem with my isp before noticing that the network was fine on my phone and iPad. I then attempted opening the same links that brought up the error message on the TorBrowser and it worked perfectly.
    Basically the only website that works on my Firefox browser right now is Google but if I do a search on Google and then click on any link that comes up as a result I get the same error message, "The connection was reset". I can also log into my gmail account but I cannot access any other website including Feedly, Tumblr, Twitter, Yahoo, Wordpress, Blogspot, even though they work fine on my other browser.
    I cleared my cache and cookies, wiped out all the browsing history but the problem persisted so I uninstalled Mozilla Firefox and reinstalled it. The problem is still there. I checked the proxy settings, I went through all the solutions on this page https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/firefox-cant-load-websites-other-browsers-can?esab=a&as=aaq and still nothing. I am not sure what the problem is here but any solution will be much appreciated. I have used Firefox for years now and I am not really comfortable using another browser.
    I use a Macbook OS X Version 10.9.4 and the latest Firefox 32.0.1

  • A div in a site am developing is not showing in firefox but shows on all the other browsers (chrome, safari, opera and explorer), can anyone help?

    i am developing a site and i used divs in making the arrangements.
    all other divs on the page shows but on particular one does not show.
    i gave all the divs a border with a red color, all the other browsers(explorer, opera, chrome and safari ) shows the divs with the colors but firefox does not even show the red color

    Can you post a test case demonstrating the problem? It doesn't need to contain confidential content or active links. (This forum doesn't handle raw HTML very well, so I don't recommend pasting code here unless you convert your angle brackets to HTML entities.)

  • Why is the font in FireFox 5 not sharp as in other browsers ?

    I have been using Firefox browser since many years and have been comfortable with its features. However, of late, after I upgraded to Firefox 5, the font in the browser doesn't seem as sharp as it is in other browsers, like IE8 or Chrome 12. I have a laptop with 64-bit Windows 7 Home Premium with a 2Gb NVidia graphics card/chip.
    While all other functions are working fine in FF5, somehow when I read lengthy documents in this browser it strains my eyes. So, I end up switching to another browser like Chrome where the same page appears with much sharper fonts. Can I adjust something in FF5 settings to get the same effect ?

    Try to disable hardware acceleration.
    *Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
    If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

  • Google Earth Plugin doesn't work on Firefox. But it works on other browsers such as Google Chrome.

    Google Earth plugin always says "There was a problem with the Google Earth Plugin. Please try reloading the page. If that doesn't help, you can re-install the Google Earth Plugin using this link." However, other browsers such as Google Chrome does not display that kind of problem.
    Firefox version: 36.0.04

    Contrary to how it may look, this is an issue with the Google Earth Plugin and not with FireFox. This support forum is for questions related to the products listed on the main support page directly only. As such this question is off topic for this forum.
    However, I reccomend openening a thread on the Google Earth plugin forum at https://productforums.google.com/forum/#!categories/earth/problems-and-errors
    Annecdotally, the plugin works fine for me under Firefox 36.0.04 and does not work for many Chrome users posting to the forum I linked to above.

  • Firefox internet speed slow in verizon fios until I use another browser. When I return to firefox speed very much inproved = to other browsers

    Each time I run verizon's fios speed test in fire fox the results are very slow until I use another browser,IE, chrome, then back to firefox and rerun speed test. The speed increases = to other browsers. I have another computer on the same network but with win 7 instead of win 8.1 and do not have this problem. This has occurred over several months ,versions and updates of fire fox. I have tried many fixes to no avail. I like fire fox and want to stay with it.

    Hi karnack1,
    Thank you for your question and I am happy to help you. I understand that you have tried a few remedies for internet speed on Windows 7 in Firefox for Desktop. In order to better assist you can you please mention what was tried and if you are using a proxy or not, as well as a firewall or antivirus. Thank you.

  • Firefox slow, laggy, choppy performance on powerful PC. Other browsers working fine. Help?

    i7 930 @ 3.8GHz, 6GB RAM@1600MHz, Intel SSD and Nvidia 660 Ti 2GB.
    That's my PC. It starts up in seconds, it's 100% stable, can run any video/audio production software with ease, and play any game at high/max settings.
    But somehow, Firefox doesn't seem to care.
    It keeps freezing up, lagging, and driving me crazy in the process. I've tried everything: reinstalling, resetting FF, removing addons, reinstalling addons, doing clean installs.... nothing. I've tried chrome. Works fine. IE even works better than FF.
    All this started in the last year or two. Slowly. I've felt each version getting slower and slower, and now it's just ridiculous. I open like 10 tabs and FF grinds to a halt, it takes 5-10 seconds for it to un-freeze sometimes. And facebook timeline scrolling?! forget about it. the more you scroll, the worse the freezing gets, to the point where I'm forced to restart FF and start all over again!
    I've been with FF since v1, I've watched it grow into the best browser of all, but I've also watched chrome rightfully take that title away in the last few years, because of what FF has turned into.
    I'd much rather stick with FF, but the frustration is getting out of hand. I can't take the slow and buggy performance, and I can't seem to find a solution.
    So is there a way to make firefox work as it should on a fast PC, or do I have to switch to chrome to get the performance back?
    (Win7 x64 SP1, ADSL 20 MBit)

    As I have seen That you have installed so much extension which is the main reason behind the slowness. Since they need some memory each time you start working with firefox.
    However do try to disable those extensions which are not used regularly ,when you need to used them just enable from addons section.
    Also try with [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-firefox-issues-using-safe-mode Safe Mode] and check whether the problem still persist or not.
    Read This Thread : [http://mzl.la/1BAQIeY Many CPU Processes]
    These are some steps will help you to fix issues like slowness:
    If monitoring tools shows High ram used by firefox then it might be due to Hardware acceleration enabled . Uncheck them from '''Options'''>'''Advance''' >under '''General''' tab.
    Sometimes plugins becomes the cause,so Check whether all plugins are up to dated or not from '''Addons''' >'''Plugins''' tab.
    See this thread for other reasons : http://mzl.la/14CBA3o

    Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
    '''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
    #Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
    #After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
    #Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
    #*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
    #*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
    #Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
    ##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
    ##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.

  • YouTube videos load so slow compared to other browsers

    YouTube videos are completely downloading in memory from the start, slowing down the PC a great deal.
    So if I try to watch a 20-min 1080p video, I have to wait ~20-30 secs to load completely in the memory. Only after that can I watch it without the PC freezing completely.
    How can I get back to the original functionality, where the videos were downloaded incrementally as you watched them?
    My setup is: Intel Core2Duo 2.2, 3.2 GB RAM 800MHz, ATI Radeon HD 5670 w/1GB memory, 100Mbit broadband (~8-10 MB/s with youtube servers)
    However, Chrome for example loads flawlessly with almost no lag. But I love Firefox and don't want to switch to anything else...
    Please let me know if you have any ideas.
    Thanks in advance,
    Nicolae

    Hello,
    Thanks jscher2000 and cor-el for the support.
    I disabled all the plugins beside Shockwave Flash, still the YouTube videos freeze the PC until completely loaded, eating 100% of my CPU.
    My only Add-ons now (when I re-enabled them) are:
    * Shockwave Flash
    * Adobe PDF
    * Google Update
    * JRE 7u7
    * App Button Color
    * Firebug
    * Live HTTP Headers
    However, I noticed a few more things:
    * The Firefox PC-freezing occurs mostly on high-resolution videos (1080p)
    * Chrome puts his video download/processing thread on a lower priority somehow, so the CPU is at 100% too, but the other programs (including the video stream itself) are not affected
    * Putting Firefox and Chrome side-by-side with the same video stream, 1 real-life minute will allow Firefox to play ~1:02 min of YouTube video, while Chrome remains at ~0:58.
    I also attached a screenshot of my PC streaming on both browsers, maybe that will help anyone.
    Thanks again for all your support,
    Nicolae
