Flash in picture before or after or in transition, white or black

Why has this not been fixed? I have done everything that has been outlined to no avail.
It almost fixes it then it comes right back. Getting real tired of it.

*Not knowing the origin to Your problem - General approach when in trouble is as follows.*
• Free space on internal (start-up) hard disk if it is less than 10Gb should rather have 25Gb
• Hard disk is untidy. Repair Permissions, Repair Hard disk (Apple Disc Util tool)
• Garageband-fix. Start it, Play a note and Close it. Re-try (Corrects an audio problem that hinders iMovie)
• Delete iMovie pref file - or rather start a new user/account - log into this and re-try
iMovie pref file resides.
Mac Hard Disk (start-up HD)/Users/"Your account"/Library/Preferences and is named. com.apple.iMovie.plist
While iMovie is NOT RUNNING - move this file out to desk-top.
Now restart iMovie.
• Third party plug-ins that doesn't work OK (not relevant for iMovie’08 or 09)
• Program miss-match. iMovie 5.0.2, up to Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK
• Program miss-match. iMovie 6.0.3 or 6.0.4, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
• Program miss-match. iMovie’08 v. 7.0.1, Mac OS X.4.11 AND QuickTime 7.4.1 - is OK (might work under Leopard)
• Screen must be set to Million-colors
From LKN 1935. (in this case = iMovie HD (5), I tried it all, but nothing worked.
Your answer (above) has been helpfull insofar as all the different trials led to the conclusion that
there was something wrong with my iMovie software. I therefore threw everything away and reinstalled
iMovie from the HD. After that the exportation of DV videos (there has not been any problem with HDV videos)
to my Sony camcorders worked properly as it did before.

Comparing pictures before and after adjustments

Dear all,
I'm about to switch from the Canon software DPP to Camera RAW.
In DPP it's possible to split the view in order to compare the same RAW picture with different adjustements. This possibility is very valuable to me.
Is it possible to split the view in Camera RAW ?
If not, how do you manage to compare the original picture to the one you obtain after having made your adjustments ?

Each adjusment panel in ACR has a Preview box you can check or uncheck to view the adjustments you have made in that panel.
Alternatively, you can simply toggle the "p" key to see the difference in your image before and after the adjustments. But in either case, this before/after comparison is limired to the adjustments made only in the panel you are currently working in.
However, if you switch to the Presets panel and toggle the "p" key, this will show you the difference between the image as it was initially opened in ACR and after all adjustments made in all panels.

Pictures pixelating just after and before transition to another picutre

My wife has created a season ending photo slide show in iDVD for our son's senior H.S. season. She is using iDVD 6 (never upgraded) and never had issues in the past. Recently, I upgraded all my computers to Leopard (family pack) including her iMac 20" screen computer.
In her latest iDVD effort she using 6MP camera with photos taken at highest quality her camera can take. After creating here iDVD slide show everything looks great on the computer but after creating DVD's of her project to distribute to the graduating seniors the photos have lost all their quality before and after each screen transition when view on TV's. The photo's pixelate so bad that you can hardly recognize any detail features like eyes and mouths on the boys. What are we doing wrong? She has exhauseted many hours on this and now we need the Apple communities help. HELP!!!!!!

I am having the same problem. In Slideshow the still image just before transition is pixelated. It then gets sharp just before transition to next image. I turned off transitions and it displays clearly and was able to burn the DVD. I think Apple could do better than this! What good is having all these transitions and not be able to display them clearly. I think they also need to revise their advertising hype about creating media that rivals Hollywood. The quality of their transitions need to be addressed and the problem solved. I could understand if the image became a little pixelated during transition, but the still image should display clearly. Obviously someone is not testing their own product if this is the level of what they are producing and selling. Maybe if enough people complain they will correct the problem. PS- Tried all the different quality settings and burn speeds... same results.

If you asking me, I would suggest to additonally use a second storage service which also allows you to store your pictures over the 30 days period. I personally use Dropbox with automatic upload for that (https://db.tt/cMEgDUFZ), but there are also other storage services like Flickr for example.

Help in designing a flash tool to compare before and after photos

I would like to create a photo comparison tool similar to the tool in this web site: http://www.restylaneusa.com/before-after.html Our company is in the aesthetics market and I have been tasked on creating a tool that would allow us to "morph" from the before picture to the after treatment picture in attempt to show change in facial features.

you could use the bitmapdata class to do image morphing. because there are many ways to morph one image into another, you'll need to know all the expectations of the client.

Elements 9 - Before and After Picture View?

I like working on photos when I can see the original picture on the left and the picture I'm editing on the right so I can 'see where I'm going' with my changes.
I'm currently trying out Elements 9.
When I work with the 'Guided' or 'Quick' Editing sections (right side) I have a drop down box that gives me the following options after the word View on the left side: 'Before Only', 'After Only', 'Before and After Horizonal', and 'Before and After Vertical'.
But when I go to the 'Full Edit' mode that drop down box disappears.
How do I get a Before and After Photo to show on the screen when I'm in 'Full Edit Mode'?

Simply use a duplicate layer or adjustment layer before starting your edits and then you can click the eye icon in the layers pallet.
You can click on and off to see before and after as you do more editing.

I just installed lihtroom CC, and in develop, the picture is blue. when I used the before after, the picture before is normal, and the after still blue.

If you leave it alone, it goes through several languages in a loop.
It's character, not caricature.

Weird flash and dim in QT after FCE export

Hi everyone,
Occasionally, my movies will export with strange effects like when still picture will dim after a little while on screen (similar to laptop dimming due to energy saver settings) and a hard cut to another picture with flash with white even if I do not have a transition in place. What gives?
p.s. I have rendered everything until there are no more check marks left to click, I have messed around a little with frame rates and keyframes and I have saved and I don't know what to do next.

You don't really have to. Exporting is kinda the same as rendering. Only thing is that if you do not render before export, FCP does not 'remember' this rendering.
If you think you'll needs parts of the render files later, you might render first.
Others in this forum do deliberately throw away the renders before they export, in order to avoid artifacts. Personally I prefer to see rendered footage before I export. I can see what I am sending to the export-application then. Haven't have any trouble so far.
So. It's up to you.

Picture - broken/crash after Import

Hello, i have a Problem with my new MacBook Pro (NOT Retina) Mountain Lion and Aperture 3.3.2:
when i Import RAW Files fom a card reader some of the Pictures Crashes/break after Import (while Aperture is reading the JPG Infos). The Data File is distroyed.
(This problem is NOT with my MacPro2008 Mountain Lion and Aperture 3.3.2)
Does anyone have an Idea ??

Well, I did the third tape now with some breaks during importing. Each time I dragged all clips into timeline and saved the project. This worked, but each break will result in a short interruption that is not as the original tape was. I also would prefer to let the importing work during times I am not sitting at the computer, so I am still looking how to solve that problem.
Maybe it just is that iMovie can not handle more then 250 clips in the clip-list?
I know that the timeline handles more then that, because I was importing 2x60 minutes tapes before, with well over 300 clips in timeline.

Plastic Surgery Before and Afters... best program?

Hi guys,
I am brand new to graphic designing or anything related to it!
I'm currently looking to do side by side before and after pictures for my office. Sometimes the pictures differ in color or contrast or need to be cropped. Sometimes a patient requests that their eyes or a tattoo be hidden (with black bars).
What program(s) would you guys suggest? Photoshop? Illustrator? Other programs??
I just got a brand new Mac so please help me!

Be aware that a there is a difference between a video that consists of a slideshow, and what DVDs consider a slideshow.
If you want a DVD slideshow, then I suggest taking a look at one of the Lord of the Rings Extended Release DVDs. On the two extra discs with each movie there are plenty of DVD slideshows. With a DVD slideshow you can go forward or back through the slideshow. You can stay on any slide as long as you like. A slide can contain audio. Audio cannot carry over from one slide to another. There is no transitions from one slide to another.
What I suspect is that you want a video that acts like a slideshow. In that case, do not use the slideshows in DVD SP at all. Create your video outside of DVD SP, then just place it in a Track and treat it as any other video.
That being said, do you want a lot of control over how the video slideshow is created, or do you want a program that will do most of the work for you at the expense of not having absolute control over how things are put together? If you want full control then create your video slideshow in FCP/Motion. If you want a program that will do a lot of the work for you, then you should look into iPhoto. It can create some pretty spectacular slideshows very easily, but you will not have the full control you have with FCP.

N97 Flash flooding pictures

Ok I have read a lot of post complaining about the flash flooding pictures. This means that there is a side which seems whiter than the other, this side always matches the place where the flash is sitting. I have been looking at this since I got my phone 1 month and half ago.
At first I thought this was because of smudge all across the glass, you can even find tests I did on here /discussions/board/message?board.id=smartphones&message.id=143299#M143299
But then I discovered something else. The Flash is recessed into the glass, so there is a gap besides the flash that leads through the glasses all the way infront the lenses/sensor. So the light will travel all the way inside the protecting glass. If the glass is completely clean the light will travel without problems to the other side of the glass. If the glass is smudged the light that hits the smudge will bounce back directly to the lens. The result is the flash flood, but this is different from just a normal smudge, because it concentrates on the left side, the flash side. A normal smudge would produce a small halo around bright objects. Hope you are following me here.
So the best fix would be blocking that gap in the flash recession. So I took a sharpie marker and painted all that gap.Then I tested taking a picture in complete darkness and with the flash on. First with the glass completely clean, the result was a perfect picture. Then I smudged the glass and the result was a normal smudge with a halo outlining bright objects. Then I cleaned the sharpie with a special cleaner and took another picture with the smudge, the result was a flash flood.
So I might be wrong but this seems to be the reason of the flash flooding the pictures, if you want to experiment also, you may grab a marker and paint the whole gap where the flash is sitting, this is the wall that separates the flash and the glass. If you do so please leave feedback here. I also want to note that I also have some small scratches caused by the cover.

this is an interesting post you have written and i left a kudo for you.
my n97 is about 2 weeks old.
the first few photos i took were brilliant. then i noticed that they are starting to have a yellow section on them.
it is difficult to explain.
the photos look like they are paper reproductions that have been printed on glossy paper that has slipped in the printer.
i don't know if it because of the flash, as you have mentioned.
i just did a test, and i found that the lense itself was dirty and so after cleaning it the photo came out better.
i will keep your post in mind and continue to monitor my camera and see what it does in the future.
i will be watching for any further discolourations.

Proble with Before and After in camera raw

The problem that I am having is the before and after in Camera Raw. When I press the P key for before and after; CR display the before and after to whole changes that I made and not just to one section. Let say, I am in the Detail section and Just want to see what changes I made in the Detail section only. I used to press the P key, but now I am seeing all the changes that I made to my file. I am using Adobe Photoshop CC and all my software is updated. I appreciatre a fix to this problem with many thanks

Alternatevely you can take advantage of the new function recently introduced in CC. Press "Q" , this will split the monitor in two, (either vertically or horizontally) and each time you go to a new tab and make some change you can go back to previous state by clicking the icon in the bottom right corner (see the picture).
as you can see..you can "toggle between current settings and defaults for the visible panel"
