Flash in Vista Sidebar Gadgets

I already tried looking EVERYWHERE..in a nutshell, I'm in
charge of working with Windows Vista Sidebar Gadget Development for
the forthcoming release (next year). I have the basic gadget
"down'; it works as long as you do NOTHING even remotely "uncool"
in your HTML ->
http://microsoftgadgets.com/Sidebar/DevelopmentOverview.aspx
The next step was to try getting FLASH in there (afterall, I
am a devoted Flash Developer). Unfortunately, the inclusion of the
object / param tags was enough to kill a gadget and make FAIL in
the current Vista Sidebar. Perhaps I'm just doing something
wrong...is anyone out there working on this? Maybe I'll get really
lucky; does anyone have an example of a Flash Gadget?
Thanks in advance,

    Sidebar Gadget for SAP
Windows 7/ Vista Sidebar (Link: http://vista.gallery.microsoft.com/vista/SideBar.aspx?mkt=en-us) can be used to interface with SAP, to show data right on the user's desktop. This allows the user to constantly monitor different SAP values and act accordingly. The parameters which people would like to monitor can be of wide range. For eg., a Basis person may want to monitor SAP system performance, while the business executives may want to know Today's sales.
    Example
What I have done here, is to create a similar gadget for Windows Vista, which can talk to a custom SAP BSP, and show data real-time on user's desktop. The example here shows how to monitor SAP system performance.
    Creating the BSP
Since sidebar gadgets can show only a small amount of area, you have to design the BSP page, to fit in that small area. Here I have created a BSP page which fits within a 130*185 sq.pixels area. My BSP page is created without the <head> section, just with the <body>.

    Creating the gadget
The gadget was created from the basic example shown in MSDN site.
    Link: http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/aa965850(VS.85).aspx
    How it looks on desktop
After these files were created, they were put into the user's gadget folder. The gadget was added on to the sidebar and it looks as follows.

    Hi Juwin,
first of all let me say "Good Job", even if the last link (the one about the complete gadget) does not work.
Anyway: why don't you write an [Article|ABAP Frequently Asked Questions]?
According to me your idea is not only good as usability, but also as business case and could be the ideal case for an "How To" article, like the one ([Getting SAP to talk to Google Gadgets|http://www.sdn.sap.com/irj/scn/index?rid=/library/uuid/70ed80f3-5964-2e10-90b9-e833ade5e8c5]) recently published by Patrick Dean.

  • Vista Sidebar Gadgets not working with iTunes

I've tried several different Gadgets, tried reinstalling iTunes 8, tried clean installs of all of them...
no third-party controller app seems to be able to interface with iTunes. i have iTunes running, but none of the iTunes controller Gadgets recognize it or are able to control it.
Any thoughts? I had this problem with 7.7 as well.

I have the same exact problem. Not one of the many sidebar gadgets seem to recognize iTunes. I assume it's some kind of registry error but have no idea. Anyone have a solution to this?

  • All in one sidebar gadget...???

Where can I download the "all-in-one" vista sidebar gadget that came on my new W700?  Just for clarity, i'm not talking about the single power manager or access connection gadgets.  The one i'm referring to has them all built into a single gadget.  See picture link here...

I did a clean install... I have all the drivers and apps from the download site, but I cannot find that gadget anywhere.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks!

Its called the ThinkVantge Status Gadget and as far as I'm aware is only available on Lenovo factory OS distributions.
Its in one of the distributed software image directories on the factory build, so if you still have an accessible copy of the your original factor image installed on a disk, you can just copy it out of the approrpiate sub-directory.

  • Java Applet in a Windows Vista/7 Sidebar Gadget?

    Hello,
I have written a Java Applet which should show a timetable. It's running very well. But my question is if it would be possible to include this in a sidebar gadget. Using a <Applet> tag in the html file doesn't work. I have searched on the Internet but didn't find something useful. Any Idea?
    Thank You.

Thanks Oliver for your quick response.
Unfortunately it is pretty hard to implement a small MAM to check if the feature works fine in my scenario.
Finally, my developer changed the inheritance from class Applet to class Frame, and now we have a solution functionally acceptable. It's not embedded in the page as the original SAP solution, but it is working as expected.

  • Downloading Flash with Vista

    Hi,
I'm having a lot of problems with Vista, so I can only assume
the OS is at the root of this problem. However, if you've seen this
and have a suggestion please let me know.
When I try to download the Flash Player, I get a screen that
says "Copy Error" - Setup unable to copy the file Download.dll. The
only thing I tried was to move the file to my desktop and retry
from that location, and I got the same error screen. Any
    suggestions?
    Jeff

I am still getting the message to install the latest version of flash.  one thing I did notice is that it wants to put everything inthe folder "c:
windows\system32/macromed/flash"  I cant find this folder when I go to the c drive to check its contents.  Is this a possible problem??

Did you try the offline installer?  Open this article http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/191/tn_19166.html, then
    download the uninstaller mentioned in section 1 and save it to disk;
    download the executable installer from section 5 and save it to disk;
close all browser windows, then run the downloaded uninstaller, followed by the installer.
If you still have problems, please specify exactly what does not work, or any error message(s) you encounter.

  • Flash and Vista Home Premium Not working!

so i recently upgrade to windows vista. and after installing
flash(succesfully, no errors) I click on the icon and i get the
    busy mouse icon.. then nothing.
I then check the TaskManager and there it is.. Flash.exe
running.. but the actual IDE (Interface) of Flash never shows up.
can someone please help me asap as I need to get this working
and dont really want to downgrade cause i purchased Vista..

Yeah - using Flash 24/7 and the fact that it always has run
10x better on PC is the main reason why
I buy PCs. Thanks for telling me about Vista.

  • Why does Firefox not support flash in Vista any more?

I have a laptop with Vista on it and all year long I have had a hell of a time putting up with the new glitches in Firefox.
I simply want the damn thing to be able to use the flash plugin. Every single ******* time Firefox updates, I lose the ability to view flash content. Clicking on the "install missing plugins" logo takes me through *seemingly* successful installs, but it doesn't really install and the next time I load firefox it still says "click here to install missing plugin."
I have also downloaded the executable from adobe and run that (as an administrator, with firefox closed out) and I still get a *successful* installation that results in total failure, e.g. it's still not installed.
Several firefoxes ago I found a website where I could download the two files needed (the dll and the other file) and I manually placed them in the plugins folder which allowed me to use flash until the damn update to the next firefox release wiped it out. The place I downloaded those files from no longer hosts them, so I'm SOL.
Please either start to support Vista again, or declare that you aren't going to. I'm sick and tired of firefox nowadays, even though I've been using it since before version 1.1.
Please, please, please just fix this problem.

There are 2 versions of Adobe Flash; an '''ActiveX version''' for IE only and a '''Plugin version''' for most other browsers including Firefox. On a Windows system, you should always update both individually. '''''You do not have the Plugin version installed in Firefox; if you did, you would see "Shockwave Flash (version)" in Add-ons > Plugins.'''''
#'''Using Firefox''', go to the following direct download link and SAVE the download to your desktop so you can find it later: http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player.exe
#When the download is finished, close Firefox (File > Exit '''''OR''''' Firefox button > Exit)
#Click or double-click on the file you just saved to your desktop
#*In the installation window that appears, click the box to the left of "I have read and...." to place a check mark in the box
#*The "Install" button in the lower right corner will now be highlighted, click it.
    #*The installation is quick.
#Start Firefox and test your installation here: https://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
#Direct link ActiveX version for IE '''''only''''': http://fpdownload.adobe.com/get/flashplayer/current/install_flash_player_ax.exe
<u>NOTE: You no longer need to place Flash components in the Mozilla Firefox\plugins folder. Doing so, will leave you with an outdated plugin and a possible conflict between competing versions of the Plugin.</u> Most current plugins are recognized by/installed into Firefox through Windows registry entries. In a clean installation of current Firefox versions, the plugins folder is no longer created in the Mozilla Firefox program application folder. However, the folder can be created and any plugins placed there will be used. It is best not to have the plugins folder unless absolutely necessary to make a particular plugin work.
You can get both versions on the following page, but there is no link directly to it. Click on item ''6. Download and install Adobe Flash Player (Firefox)'' near the top of the page, then scroll down to "Advanced Troubleshooting" just following the Firefox information; the links are in item 1 under that heading:

  • Problems with flash in vista - Not IE RELATED

Just got a new laptop yesterday with:
    vista home premium 32 bit
    amd 64x2
    1g ram
I like to play poker (just play money) on carbon poker and
    poker.com
I installed the programs and went to play on them. The
program loads fine, functions fine in the menus and game lists.
But when I join a game (i.e. there are moving symbols-cards,
chips, chat bubbles) the game window freezes within 5-10 secs,
basically as soon as something on the table moves.
At this point none of the buttons in the table window work.
However, I can go into the lobby (no moving symbols) and exit the
    program.
After exiting the program I get an error stating:
"this program requires a missing windows component" blah blah
    the details state:
"this program requires flash.ocx, which is no longer included
    with this version of windows"
The solution tells me to install the latest version of flash,
    which I did.
    Same problem.
I have tried uninstalling flash and installing full version
(separate file, not browser based install) - no luck
I have tried installing flash 7 and 8 - no luck
I have tried copying flash9.ocx and renaming it flash.ocx -
    no luck
I have tried setting program to run compatible with win xp
    sp2 - no luck
I have searched every forum, google search string, adobe, and
    ms sites - no luck
I have tried installing a version of carbon poker from vista
    downloads - no luck
As far as I can tell, this program needs flash to function
properly in the games. I don't know if there is a problem with
where vista puts flash and the program is looking elsewhere for it
    or what.
Can someone please help me figure out how to get these
programs to run? They are not browser based, they are separate
    programs run from an exe.
    Thanks in advance.

Tech support told me the problem could be caused by flash
unexpectedly terminating. Is there any way to prevent this from
happening? The laptop is a Compaq and came with shloads of garbage
software on it that could be causing the complications. Any
suggestions on where to start? Thanks in advance.

  • Problems with Flash on Vista

I recently got Windows Vista and have been having problems
with it. Right now, the problem is in Flash (7, I think). I assume
it's caused by Vista because it didn't happen on XP.
So the problem seems to be that whenever I drag the tools
around, Flash closes itself. I've already lost two sessions of
work. Since I'm prone to accidentally clicking a few pixels off the
tool icon and dragging across the screen, I'm thinking this will
happen a lot more. So I guess a solution would be to lock the tools
in place, but I can't find the option anywhere. So if anyone knows,
it'd be great to let me know. And if anyone knows of a better
    solution, that'd be wonderful too.
    :]

well i have vista too and flash 8 and it is working perfect
for me so i don't what to tell you.

  • Can't install Flash on Vista clean install

OK...I am thoroughly frustrated. I am working on a clean
install of Vista Ultimate, administrator account with all requisite
permissions, IE7 is conifgured to prompt for Active X, etc. Yet,
when I try to install Flash Player, I get to the screen that has
the green bars running across as if it is installing. Then, it
either runs forever, or I get a pop-up saying "Network Error" or
"Download Interrupted". I am able to download anything from every
other site on the web, so I am not worried about my network
settings. When I check system32/.Macromed directory, there is no
Flash sub-directory, only a Download directory. In that directory
are the following files: Install.exe and Download.dll.
Can anyone please help??? I am pulling my hair out (and I
    don't have a lot left!)
P.S. I have another Vista computer that has FLash on it. Can
I just copy the files from that computer?

That's interesting, and unusual. The two files that you DO
see are put there by the install process. They basically -are- the
    Flash Player installer.
If you were installing the Flash Player PLUGIN (for FireFox,
any non-IE windows browser) then you could copy it over. But for
the OCX activeX control install you cannot. It has to actually
    install.
Can you grab and post a screen shot of those errors? I don't
find any other similar cases in the database.. it's not clear to me
if they're coming from Vista or from the installer..

  • Live Messenger conflicting with new update, no access to Flash Player - Vista

Ok, first of all I'm not an expert at all with computers but usually figure things out on my own, but this is an issue I cannot figure out.
Just yesterday, I downloaded I think not 100% sure, Flash Player 10.1 since I was unable to play videos on youtube, so natuarally I went and download 10.1 and it worked for the rest of the night as expected. Now tonight I have ran into the same issue saying I need 10.2, so I thought alright, easy enough, but I was wrong. First I believed it to be downloaded as I repeated the same steps as the night before, and it worked perfect, but when I returned to youtube it said I need the update, slight frusterated I went back to download the Flash Player again, thinking I might have missed something, now when I give it the permisson and all that it says 2 programs need to be closed before it can be downloaded, Internet Explorer, and Live messenger. I close IE and log out of LM ( Live messenger) and think it will work, the window stays open, so I just close it manually and the download says complete, unfortunately wrong again. Now angry I restart my PC disable my Anti-Virus (Nortons 360) and log out of LM and took off the toolbar aswell, make another attempt and the same issue pursists, I go into my Control Panel delete the Flash Player in there make another attempt at installation same result, close the box that says to close Live Mssenger (Which is already closed) and it says complete, just to make sure open Control Panel look under Adobe and see Adobe Flash Player 10 ActiveX without the usually logo, and find that it still doesn't work, unable to figure it out I have now come here, any help is greatly apperciated.
(Currently scanning PC for virus' incase that is an issue, as was stated in a previous post)
(Running Vista, I believe 64-bit, though have no idea to be sure)
    Thanks,
                                  Mikeyuio

Found out the issue, I have a program open called LogMeInHamachi used to connect friends and whatnot, some reason was being picked up as Messenger, and have closed it, the window in which it described Live Messenger was open disappeared and Flash Player downloaded successfully.
