Flash insert
I am trying to insert a Flash Movie. I go thru the
steps only to get this message. "The URL cannot contain spaces or
special characters. Change the path or file name and try again."
The path and file name are, 'images/quick.fla. Any
suggestions?
Configuration:
XP Pro/SP2
DW 8
Flash 8
well for one, you need to export your flash movie as an .swf.
Put THAT file
in your page.

Hi! I ran into a problem inserting flash site. When uploading files, leave a message, you need to install flash player, although Mozilla Firefox have the latest version of flash player.

So now for inserting flash I use the old version of Macromedia Dreamweaver MX. In this flash inserted without problems.

Best Regards, AlexanderI tried to insert Flash into the newest version of Dreamweaver CS6 (downloaded and installed yesterday). Now mozilla FireFox installed Flash Player 11 (in the screenshot). I do not see how to attach files here on the forum.

Dreamweaver CS4 Flash insert is garbage
Dreamweaver CS4 is a disaster! It makes my 10x work more difficult. And it doesn't even get the job done.
Examples:
Can't preview my work in internet explorer. Instead, there some bogus, non-functioning, jump through 10 hoops extension called BrowserLabs - that flat out doesn't work.
It's even worse for Flash video. Can't just click and preview it anymore, in ANY browser. Instead you have to upload it to your server or create a "test server" - and Mensa member, UC Berkley grad that I am - I can not figure out how to do that based on the lame instructinos from Adobe.
Beyond that, the Flash insert in CS4 has totally lost the ability to re-size the actual video content - instead you get a black box around the video.
And you are no longer able to pull video in from anoher site by referenceing the full URL.
I bought Dreamweaver to make life easier. I don't want to learn to hand code. And I don't want to waste days and days dealing with things thaqt don't work.
I've been working with computers for a long time. And CS4 is THE WORST upgrade I've ever experienced.
Attention Adobe - what are you going to do about all this? I want to go back to CS3!"I bought Dreamweaver to make life easier. I don't want to learn to hand code. And I don't want to waste days and days dealing with things that don't work."
How typical.
Mac user - "I just got a new Mac (or application) and I can't wait to do all sorts of great things with it!"
Linux user - "I just got a new Linux build (or system) and I can't wait to do all sorts of great things with it!"
PC user - "I just bought a new computer (or program) and it's going to do all sorts of things for me!"
or the opposite:
PC user - "I just bought a new computer (or program) and it won't do anything for me!"
Mac user - "I just got a new Mac (or application) and I still haven't learned everything I can do with it... yet."
Linux user - "I just got a new Linux build (or system) and I still haven't learned everything I can do with it... yet."
Dreamweaver is WYSIWYG software. What You See Is What You Get... It's not a cure-all, do-all, write-all, upload-and-test-all fix for people who want to be webmasters without any knowledge or effort on their part. There's a solution for that... hire someone to build your site(s) for you.
If you're adamant about not learning code, you're in the wrong business (or even hobby).
It's like saying, "I want to commute across town, but I'll be damned if I'm going to learn to drive!"
I've been doing this since 2004 and I'm still in school learning new technologies and practices.
I'll climb down off my soapbox now.
Edit: For the record, I built and inserted two flash animations last night. First one here, second one here.Neither of them took more than three clicks to add, and I fully tested each of them in no less than eleven browsers (Firefox, IE8, Opera, Safari, Netscape, AOL, iCab, OmniWeb, Camino, SeaMonkey, Chrome), offline, before uploading the index pages.

Final Cut Pro to Flash -- Inserting and Using Cue Points
I want to export a flash video using File - Export - Using Quick Time Conversion and selecting Flash. Under options for Flash, I see something about "Cue Points".
My assumption is that these would be points that you can insert that are similar to chapter markers and that you could have the Flash player on a web page jump back and forth between them.
Does anyone know of any documentation on inserting these points in Final Cut export? I couldn't figure it out. It looks like you give them a name and a timecode. I could not enter the timecode.
How about over on the player side? I assume some sort ActionScript in Flash is required. Has anyone seen a simple example/tutorial of these capabilities?Apart from disabling time machine, iCal and any other programs or applications from taking focus. Time machine and software updates can certainly be told not to try as far as I recall.

Flash inserted via Javascript not working in IE.
I am having issues viewing flash that has been inserted via
javascript in Internet Explorer. I had to uninstall my flash about
a week ago. I've since reinstalled flash and reinstalled flash
player for all my browsers. All flash shows where it hasn't been
inserted via javascript (ie. youtube.com) but javascript flash is
not showing at all in IE. Firefox is working fine. Any help in
resolving this issue for IE would be greatly appreciated.
DuncanI'm having the same exact problem. I've uninstalled,
reinstalled, the works. Flash works great in my alternate browser,
Opera, but not with IE. -
Hello,
I designed a slide show in Banner Zest and saved as a Flash file with all codes and images. Since I can't find where to place the code, how do I insert everything so that my show will run in the site?You can place the SWF though File -> Place. If you have dependent resources to upload as well required for the flash file to run, take a look at this thread - http://forums.adobe.com/message/5087131.
Thanks,
Vinayak -
Alright, so my problem is this:
I am trying to add a simple slide-show ---built in Flash--- to one of the pages on my site. However, I am unable to see the content when I preview my site in DW, and furthermore, whenever I attempt to play the animation, while it is design view, DW completely crashes. Although the slide-show does not play, whenever I preview the page, the Flash animation box flickers for a moment and disappears, and sometimes the site-default message will appear that I need Flash Player to view this content. Ultimately, am I mistaken, or is inserting a Flash object supposed to be a relatively easy task to perform.
To answer in advance, I am using the SWF file-type, and I also have the appropriate Flash scripts within DW. Additionally, the animation works fine when I use the Flash HTML preview. So, what am I doing wrong? Is this a software, site design, or simple code error?
Thanks
P.S. I recently downloaded CS5.5 and some of the other programs have been acting very unstable (e.g. Bridge and Extension Manager), which is what has me thinking it could be an error within Dreamweaver.It will be easier to help if you place the files on a server and provide a link. One thing you should do is use the code that the Flash html page uses in the DW file rather than relying on DW to create the code, being sure to include any code relative to any supporting js file.
If the slideshow is loading images dynamically, meaning they are not stored in the swf file, then that could be another factor for which you might have to adjust the swf code. -
I just upgraded to CS3. When I insert my swf file dreamweaver
is only placing this in the code:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0
Transitional//EN" "
http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="
http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">

type="application/x-shockwave-flash" width="670"
height="308"></embed>
</object>
</body>
</html>
That's it! Thus when I upload to the server I don't get to
see a flash movie. It worked fine in version 8 but 8 inserted
additional code. PLEASE HELP....is there some option I don't have
turned on?????
Thanks
Andy

New to Flash - inserting a navigation onto a html hidden layer
Apologies if I use the wrong terminology - I'm used to
html/css coding, and haven't ventured into Flash yet, but a client
has requested a very specific navigation system and I think Flash
is the only way to achieve it.
It's a fairly straightforward html/css site and the client
wants to have a semi-transparent navigation overlay on the page
(hidden layer) accessible by clicking on the company logo. The
overlay will be an image of a globe with text links at different
angles - hence the need for Flash rather than html. The text should
have mouseover behaviours and link to other pages within the site.
So, since I'm a solid gold newbie, is there a step-by-step
tutorial on achieving this? I think that it's a relatively
straightforward process, just one that I don't know!
Thanks for your patience.Sorry, I should have added that I'm running Dreamweaver 8 and
Flash Professional 8.
Cheers. -
2 Flash inserts? Is this possible?
The idea would be to have a Flash button, on the right hand
side of an HTML based page. However, at the top of the page would
be another Flash container - though, the button would be able to
interact with the top container (to active it so that the animation
would then play). My confusion is, I know this is perfectly simply
in a complete Flash document...but to have the two Flash files
separate on an HTML page and so they still interact a bit?
Any info would be appreciated! Thank you.I think you're right that it would be simpler to use one
Flash document. You could even load the text and CSS dynamically
for the part that would have been HTML, and you'd hardly know the
difference.
But I wonder if you could make one Flash movie containing
both the button and the header, and then give it a lower z-index
than the html text so that would be on top? Hmm... -
Another type of problem with flash inserts
I have been working on a site that has been working
perfectly, until I decided to make some changes and re-upload the
site. When I did this, none of the flash elements, like the menu
and the banner, would show up in Firefox, only in Explorer. i was
told that the paths to the .swf files were pointing at my C drive
and I had to fix that (I have no idea how I thought DW did that on
it's own, my site is defined). I have been playing with the site
and found that if I disable javascript, I can see flash in FF. I
never had to do this before. What is happening and how can I fix
it. But, please, be kind, I am a self taught Newbe with a capital
N! (www.formypets.net)Thank you, Alan, I made all the changes, I think, uploaded it
again, and nothing. I am at the end of my rope!! Is there any place
where I can send my code to be fixed? Everything was working so
right and now it's all messed up... All the flash buttons from DW
are supposed to be on the left and they don't appear either. Are
all this changes to be able to see it in FF with javascript
enabled?
This is how the code for the banner looks in DW:

Stop Flash from inserting nodes
Does anyone know how to turn of the Irritating stupid
function that makes Flash insert extra nodes in curved lines?
When you draw a curve in Flash, it ads extra nodes inside the
curved line, making it imposible to work with your drawn lines.
I don't know why Macromedia added that function, it's stupid
and irritating.
Does anyone know how to turn it off?
ThanksAlso note that the technote tries to make the excuse that
quadratics are
somehow better.
That's just a load of bollocks
A cubic Bezier can define curves that a quadratic simply
cannot do. In
order to get close to a single cubic Bezier, you need
multiple quadratics.
So if SWF files did support cubic as well as quadratic
Beziers, one could
get SMALLER SWF file (because the approximations would not be
required ..
and for the cases where the cubic CAN be represented by
quadratic, flash
could generate the more efficient curve (just as it already
is able to take
quadratic Beziers that are actually straight lines, and
reduces them to
lines).
So take what you read with a grain of salt .. its mostly
technical
mathematical and geometric jargon trying to put a spin on a
bad design
decision and trying to make it LOOK like it is for your own
good (reducing
file size). This is not uncommon for Macromedia/Adobe
technotes .. the
often distort the truth to provide an excuse for bugs or
design faults.

Hello - I've recently upgraded to CS3 and seem to be having
issues with
inserted Flash files not appearing when I preview them on my

Insert FLV, let it build player, can't move skins, SWF haults
I am using Dreamweaver CS4 on a mac... I am inserting an FLV file through the file menu prompts... I let it build out the Skins it needs, which default to the root directory.. my FLV file is in a "Videos" folder... It is also creating a "Scripts" folder... It all plays fine...
In the dreamweaver File Viewer, I move Clear_Skin_1.swf andFLVPlayer_Progress.swf.. dreamweaver notifies me that i may need to update my paths... i do so with the following code... and now the file doesn't work...
<object classid="clsid:D27CDB6E-AE6D-11cf-96B8-444553540000" width="350" height="234" id="FLVPlayer">
<param name="movie" value="Videos/FLVPlayer_Progressive.swf" />
<param name="quality" value="high">
<param name="wmode" value="opaque">
<param name="scale" value="noscale">
<param name="salign" value="lt">
<param name="FlashVars" value="&MM_ComponentVersion=1&skinName=Videos/Clear_Skin_1&streamName=Videos/CDWS_videomanual&autoPlay=true&autoRewind=false" />
<param name="swfversion" value="8,0,0,0">
<!-- This param tag prompts users with Flash Player 6.0 r65 and higher to download the latest version of Flash Player. Delete it if you don’t want users to see the prompt. -->
<param name="expressinstall" value="Scripts/expressInstall.swf">
<!-- Next object tag is for non-IE browsers. So hide it from IE using IECC. -->
<!--[if !IE]>-->
<object type="application/x-shockwave-flash" data="Videos/FLVPlayer_Progressive.swf" width="350" height="234">
<!--<![endif]-->
<param name="quality" value="high">
<param name="wmode" value="opaque">
<param name="scale" value="noscale">
<param name="salign" value="lt">
<param name="FlashVars" value="&MM_ComponentVersion=1&skinName=Videos/Clear_Skin_1&streamName=Videos/CDWS_videomanual&autoPlay=true&autoRewind=false" />
<param name="swfversion" value="8,0,0,0">
<param name="expressinstall" value="Scripts/expressInstall.swf">
<!-- The browser displays the following alternative content for users with Flash Player 6.0 and older. -->
<div>
<h4>Content on this page requires a newer version of Adobe Flash Player.</h4>
<p><a href="http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer"><img src="http://www.adobe.com/images/shared/download_buttons/get_flash_player.gif" alt="Get Adobe Flash player" /></a></p>
</div>
<!--[if !IE]>-->
</object>
<!--<![endif]-->
</object>
Now when I move the files BACK to the root, let dreamweaver re-write the code... it works... why can't I organize these SWF skins/players?The reason (I am told), is because of the streaming video option (you require a streaming enabled server to use this), which establishes a permanent connection to the page, so the flash insert places the progressive option there as well, ease of coding and possibly making the file placement standardized I imagine.
