Flash installer has a blank dark grey screen

I am trying to install Flash player in Firefox (latest version) and windows 8 OS (rather unimpressed with it but...).  The program downloads fine. It prompts me to run it and that goes fine. It asks for permission to make changes. I grant it. The it starts but all I see is a an empty gray box. No writing, no status bar, simply a dark grey/black box with a blue frame. It never does install and work.
I have read through the installation troubleshooting guide and tried some of the suggestions  for windows but it was no help. What should I try next?
PS This is not an easy forum system to use or get help on. None of the communities seem like logical places to post this question.

I'm having the same problem J_george and have been for months. I've also done a post requesting help, I will let you know if I hear anything.
Thanks

    Hi guys.
I've had my MacBook Pro for 2 years now. Last night it suddenly kept glitching to a dark grey screen every now and then, then it would flash yellow / blue spots, and now it won't go past the grey screen even when I reboot it.
I don't think I can access my disk anymore as I've moved across countries since I've first gotten my laptop.  it was working perfectly fine before  it kept going to the dark grey screen with a little blue on the bottom.
If it helps, my camera light is still on, and it seems that my computer is working properly itself, but won't go past this grey screen.
I'm a college student and am really panicking about this - can anyone please tell me what to do?
Thank you & sorry for the long post.

What operating system are you running on it? (iOS 5.1 is for iPhone, iPad...not a Mac).

You are talking to fellow users on these forums, not iTunes Support or Apple - I've asked the hosts to remove your phone number from your post.
For the Camera app, try closing it via the taskbar and see if it works when you re-open the app : from the home screen (i.e. not with the Camera app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar at the bottom of the iPad's screen, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Camera app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
If that doesn't fix it then try a soft-reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.
In terms of syncing, you will need iTunes on your computer - if you haven't already downloaded it then you can do so from here : http://www.apple.com/itunes/download/
You can conncet the iPad to your computer and select it on the left-hand sidebar of your computer's iTunes (you can enable the sidebar on iTunes 11 on a PC via control-S), and use the tabs on the right-hand side of the iTunes screen to sycn your content to the iPad.

For the excel file, what app are you viewing/editing it in ? If the values are different then it may be that the app that you are using doesn't support all the formulas that are being used in the spreadsheet. Apps that 'support' excel documents include Apple's Numbers app, and from third-parties apps such as Documents To Go ('premium' version) and QuickOffice Pro HD.

  • My ipad 3 stuck with a dark grey screen

    Firstly hello fellow members,
This is my first time on here and unfortunately its with a problem .
My ipad 3 is stuck with a dark grey screen which looks like 6 equally spaced horizontal lines/bands.
Ive tried holding the buttons down for a reset & restoring in itunes but nether worked and just goes back to the grey screen.
    Any help would be great.

Welcome and sorry to hear about your iPad.
I agree with Ralph. If you restored, rebooted.... there is nothing more to try. Take it to an Apple Store and let them have a look.

  • Every time I have have Preview as my default pdf reader. I download a pdf file, i get a dark grey screen. Any suggestions?

I have Preview as my default pdf reader. Every time I download a pdf file, I get a dark grey screen. Any suggestions?

    Hi,
I also installed Adobe Reader because an ebook I downloaded wouldn't open without it.
I then chose Adobe Reader as my default. When I later uninstalled it using the Trash Me app-which usually clears everything out-I couldn't get Preview back as the default.
I went to the "Library/Internet plug-ins" path and trashed the two Adobe Reader plug ins that were there. I used Secure Empty Trash, and then shut down completely and did not check the box to reopen any windows. Then I restarted the Mac.
I not only shut down Safari, I closed all applications and shut down the Mac completely being sure to uncheck the "relaunch with windows open" button. When I turned the Mac back on, I opened Safari and went to an online PDF that I had been trying to open previously to test the app. It opened this PDF using Preview and showed it in Safari.
I then tested using a PDF from my files and it opened in Preview.
    Quit Safari.
Open the Finder. From the Finder menu bar click Go > Go to Folder
    Type of copy / paste:   /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Click Go then move the Adobe PDF Browser plugin from the Internet Plug-Ins folder to the Trash.
    Relaunch Safari to test.

  • Has anyone encounter a Grey Screen with spinning wheel stuck (frozen waited more than 5h) in after running Lion Installer from SL?

    Hi
I've tried almost everything on my Macbook Pro 8,2 (i7 2.0Ghz).
    Wipe/Erase the SL partition.
Burned the ESD dmg to a DVD.
Reset SMC,PRAM and NVRAM many times.
    Run Repair Disk. Passed OK.
    Run Hardware Test. Passed OK.
Download the Lion Installer 4 times. MD5 Passed.
Everytime I've tried to install lion it give me this Grey screen... The mouse wheel start spinning and it then stops, and nothing happens from that point. (Also rebooted many, many times same result).
SL Install disk runs fine, even installing it from Zero. I've setted up time machine. (The restore to definetly works also the SL installation too)
I'm a little far away to send my Macbook to a customer service.
    What else should I try?
    :S
    VR

    Thank you very much William
I ran the installer and saw the same screen stuck... After I used Shift to boot in safe mode, I got the 3 beeps with grey screen apple logo. So then I rebooted into Single User do the 'nvram boot-args="-x -v"' and voila the installer continued with no issues I've turned back de 'nvram boot-args=""' and everything seems to be working fine.
Really weird beahviour of the installer with my Mac.
    Thanks.

  • Disk repair and Apple Hardware Test says HD has no problem but grey screen still persists on MBP

5 days ago while on vacation, my MBP just froze with the grey screen, apple logo and spinning gear.
I performed all that was instructed on the following discussions:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570
except  Archive and Install installation of MAC OS X and Erase and Install  MAC OS X since I was able to save my files in  my husband's MBP via Firewire Target Disk Mode. At this point, I am still apprehensive in erasing my files and installing again the MAC OS X.
When I did the Disk Repair under the Disk utilities, it says that my Mac Os X is ok.  (It also said ok when I did the fsck -fy when I till did not have my CD when I was on vacation)
I also tried the Apple Hardware Test (AHT)   to further l test the hardware of my MBP and performed an extended checking and after an hour, its says that my HD has no problem.
Yet, after all these, when I restart my computer, it still has the grey screen with apple logo and spinning wheel!
Can anyone tell me what else can I do??? Appreciate any help!

I like the free demo of SuperDuper to make clones. It's free,  Leopard and Snow ready and is easy to use. If you buy the full version you can do incremental backups.
You should use Disk Utility to do a Disk Repair, as shown in this link, booted up on your install disk, before you make a clone of it. I use DiskWarrior for that instead.
I then partition my external disk, in Disk Utility, with a partition that is the same size , actually a tad bigger, as my system disk. I then use SuperDuper to clone my system disk over to that partition.
With a clone on an external FireWire drive (USB drives are not bootable on PPC Macs but are on some Intel Macs) you can bootup on it to do your repairs, on the main drive, or just run your Mac anytime you have trouble with your main drive.
That's why I like clones better then Time Machine. You can just bootup on them and use your Mac.
On the DiskWarrior thing, I use DW once a month to try and catch errors in my system from getting too far out of hand. It has repaired every little and big issue I have ever had with my  three Macs.
And I have had times when Disk Utility's Disk Repair says everything's fine but my system was still having issues. Disk Utility, in my experience, cannot be totally relied on to find and report all issues. It just isn't robust enough.
I run DiskWarrior, it does find errors, repairs them and I'm back in business. I swear by it!

  • Water damaged white/dark grey screen

I have an iPod nano 4th gen. and its taken quite a bit of damage. Its screen is now white and fades to dark grey and I cant see much, but it would still play my music, videos, etc. It also has a slightly splotchy screen, which is most likely water damage. It was working fine before I had dropped it and left it outside for a couple hours. I tried resetting it to factory settings, and it didn't do anything. Is there any way I can fix this? Its an older ipod, about 7 years, way out of the warranty. Id prefer not to buy a new one, so any help will be appreciated.

Sorry, there's nothing can be done.
Your nano is corroding slowly but surely.

  • I have a mac air and it says my star up disk is full, now when I log in it just has a blank white lit screen and I cannot go further

After logging in, theres just a blank white backlit screen and I cannot go further. It also has been showing on the screen
that the startup disk is full.  I already tried diagnostics and it says hardware is fine.

You will have to erase your drive because it has a corrupted directory resulting from allowing the drive to become full.
Install or Reinstall OS X from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
      1. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
      2. After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the
left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
      3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Optionally, click on
the Security button and set the Zero Data option to one-pass. Click on
the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
      4. Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall OS X: Select Reinstall OS X and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible
because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Install fail - dark grey screen

I just downloaded Mavericks and did a restart when prompted. After the restart the Apple logo appeared and then the spinning wheel. After about 15 more seconds the Mac goes pretty much quiet and the screen becomes dark grey.
After a forced restart it's the same and also if I try to start with the recovery disc.
I have a dead computer in front of me and any help is appreciated.

Ok, hopefully I have solved this myself.
My computer is connected to my TV as second screen. The TV was turned off, but probably suddenly was assigned as my primary screen. As I restarted I looked at my darkened computer monitor while the update was going on on the TV that was turned off.
I disconnected my tv and I now have the update window running. Hopefully I didn't screw anything up by several force restarts.

  • Yosemite has killed my laptop - grey screen!

The other day I updated my MBP (i7 early 2012) from the latest mavericks to Yosemite. Apart from not liking the over-colored folders it seemed to work fine for a day or 2 and then some funny things started going on and I tried to restart, but now I just get the grey screen - apple logo appears but progress bar stops after about 30% no matter how many times I reboot.
I have tried everything I can think of ….
    - starting in safe mode doesn’t work any better
    - resetting PRAM doesn’t help (although it brought back the chimes)
    - managed to get internet recovery but restoring to my time machine didn’t work (after 4 hours all I got was a folder with a question mark on it).  Fresh original OS install didn’t work (‘a newer OS is installed’ it told me). Tried everything I could think of in disk utility, finally I erased everything, reapplied the os extended journaling with 1 partition, verified the disk and then tried reinstalling the original OS again but it appears that Lion is no longer available and there is no option to choose another more recent OS.
The disk seems ok (it verified) but for some reason disk utility seems to think there are 2 disks when there aren’t although I have no idea if this is connected with the problem.
I am now at a loss as to what to do next. I have spent 2 hours browsing forums to find help but can’t find any suggestions that I understand (I am not a computer technician).
    Any advice gratefully received!

Thanks for the idea but I can't make this work, maybe because I don't know how to do it properly . I have downloaded what I think is a mavericks installer from the net, burnt the .pkg onto a pen drive (using another computer) but I don't know how to install this or boot from it. If I try to start up with options (alt) held down I just get the option of internet recovery now (once I have put in the wireless network password).
(the mavericks installer is labelled OSXUpd10.9.5.pkg   is that the right thing?)

  • Dark Grey screen telling me to restart

I saw a similar post, but the resolution referred to the G5, not the Intel IMac. I use my imac pretty hard, i use it for work. Every other day, i get this grey screen telling me to restart. (this is my first mac) when i restart, i do repair disk. Seems ok for about 48 hours. I usually have many programs open> entourage, dreamweaver, photoshop, parellels, itunes, neooffice, firefox.
    thanks for any help

  • My 6 will not open or show a screen.  Was completely charged and turned off. When turning in it flashes an apple and then goes to a very dark grey screen. Unable to get anything.

My 6 turned off with a full charge and will. It turn back on. Have tried resetting, flipping mute switch and all recommended Apple suggestions.  It very briefly flashes the Apple logo and then nothing.  There is a slight color change of the screen, but no suggestion of working. Tried recharging,  Nothing.

ALso, I can't get into the phone to get a serial number so can't chat with Apple about this problem.
You can find the serial number of the device in multiple places:
    A) Engraved on the back of the device is the IMEI number.  That corresponds directly to the Serial Number.
    B) On the box it came in.
    C) If you made a backup to iTunes previously, you can find the serial number in the Preferences window, under Devices.

    HOW TO GET TO PREFERENCES
