Flash installer self deletes?

I installed Adobe products today (Photoshop, Lightroom), and Adobe Media Player was included.  I don't know that it was cause / effect, but I was on YouTube shortly thereafter and got only black screens.  (Firefox5 and Opera12, 100% non-functional.  Very buggy in IE9.)
Research indicated that this condition happens to a lot of people, but for many reasons, and I was unable to narrow done causes or solutions.  I downloaded and overinstalled the latest version of Flash (though my version should have been fully current).  That fixed the problem and YouTube videos played fine afterward.
However, I noticed that the installer was missing.?  I download all installers to a specific directory so it was easily noticed.
Is the Flash installer supposed to self delete?  If so, why?  If so, it would be nice to be advised.
(Didn't care for the default selected McAfee garbageware on the dowload page.  Would have been very easy to miss.  The 'download' button is designed to bring the eye right past the garbageware.)

Yes, several times, Tom. You don't copy the entire installer application. You clone the InstallESD.dmg from inside the application package: Contents/SharedSupport/. CTRL- or RIGHT-click on the Install Mac OS X Lion application download and navigate to the indicated folder.
Open Disk Utility. Select the flash drive and click on the Restore tab in the main window. Drag the flash drive to the Destination field. Drag the InstallESD.dmg file into the Source field. Click on the Restore button.

  • Self-Deleting Flashplayer12 Installation Package

Flashplayer 12's installation package, when downloaded and executed from a user's computer, deletes itself on completion of the installation ... why would an installation package do this (consider that such a download could serve as a marker of date/time of the package installation and/or content from which a PC configuration could be restored, or duplicated)?  Is it possible that the Flashplayer 12 installation package assumes that it is being web installed as opposed to downloaded and installed from the local machine, and that this is, in fact, a bug in the install package?

It's a "Stub" installer, and ALL stub installers self-delete. VLC, Firefox, both use stub installers now, which delete upon initialization of the download. Flash Player stub installers have done this since 2005 that I know of. And if you use the stub installer, it IS a web install. Thewre si no other way. you CAN'T install Flash Playe as a 1mb file. It's eighteen times that big as a FULL download and 54 times as big fully installed.
Windows System Restore keeps track of what was installed and when, right down to the second it was installed.
Additionally Windows "datestamps" the installed files.
You can see this in your Control Panel:
as well as "timestamping" the files in the folders where they're installed:
If you MUST HAVE a 17mb file to keep on hand in case of emergency (here's a hint: if you do a System Restore to a time BEFORE you downloaded it, WIndows will likely erase it), the  FULL installers are here:

I am hoping to find a way to create an Admin account for our parent body that can be used for items at home, "adding printers, software, wireless settings, etc...), but have that account either "expire" or self delete itself after say 72 hours?

Will they be needing to keep files saved for a while?  I'm guessing no, since you're ok with it auto-deleting after a short while.
You could just use the guest user:  http://support.apple.com/kb/PH11321
But I'm not aware of any way that you could setup an account to expire.

  • Manual backup of bookmark json file is empty, export of bookmark html file "self-deletes"

I'm now using Firefox 17.0.11esr in Win 7 at work and 26.0 in Win XP at home. I tried 24.2.0esr at work, but had to return to the earlier version, because of this problem below, which also happens with my home machine:
I cannot save, manually or automatically, a usable bookmarks json file for use as a backup. The files are always empty.
When I try to export a bookmarks html file, it begins to create and save it, but then "self-deletes" it before it's done.
Why is this a problem with 24.2.0esr and 26.0, but not 17.0.11esr? What can I do about it?
    Thanks

You can try to create a new profile and keep both profiles open at the same time.<br />
You can do that by starting the second instance with the -no-remote command line switch (see further down).
Then you can do a copy and paste of the bookmarks in the Bookmarks Manager (Library) from the current profile to the Library of the new profile to create a new places.sqlite database file.<br />
If that works then you can copy this places.sqlite file to your current profile folder.<br />
You will lose the history, but it is possible to copy history items to a bookmarks folder in the new profile.
    See "Creating a profile":

You can also opt to keep using the new profile and transfer some files from the old profile to the new profile, but be cautious not to copy corrupted files to avoid carrying over the problem.

  • Flash Installer cannot download. "Adobe Flash Player could not be installed."

Flash Installer cannot download. Finally get the message,  "Adobe Flash Player could not be installed." I already uninstalled the old copy, now I have no Flash Player.

My issue was identical.... days of frustrating downloads and initializing but no installation........ UNTIL I chose to not use the default installer and chose 'Save File'. Now I have the latest Flash installed in OS 10.8.5 no problems !!
This time a long download of 16MB arrived in the downloads folder that actually worked.
Prior to this, all downloads were around 1.6MB and there was no .dmg in the package.
I got my download under where it says "Still having problems?"
    Hope this helps you.

  • Flash installer is very poor show.

I doubt anyone will listen - but just want to add my feedback to others who have been upset by how flash installs updates.
I was asked to update by flash in the big black box on start up.. did so and it downloaded Macafee without my permission.  Installing this way does not appear to give you any options to disable this installation option.
Unprofessional behaviour in my opinion.  Following the tactics of malware sites is not acceptable.  Paints your whole company in a bad light being associated with this.

Thanks for the clarification.  This definitely is not the intended behavior.  I've seen similar complaints, and we take them seriously and do our best to investigate them.  We have around 1.2 billion users, but I've seen maybe a couple dozen complaints about this over the last couple years.  A failure rate of 0.001% at Flash Player scales translates to 100k+ people, and I'm not seeing the kind of overwhelming response that you would expect if this was a widespread issue.
We get a wave of questions with each update, and we usually get a handful of this kind of complaint for each release.  I've personally spent a bunch of time trying to recreate a scenario where this would happen, and I haven't been able to do it.  I've worked with a couple people that were experiencing this to try and recreate the problem on their machines as well, but the issue has never reproduced for anyone I've talked to.  My guess is that it's timing dependent.  When we publish the update, we don't just put it on one server.  It goes out to a Content Distribution Network, composed of thousands of geographically distributed servers.  It takes about an hour for the update to fully propagate across the entire CDN, and because of the transitory nature of the symptoms, my guess is that if you happen to hit the update at just the wrong time, there's a half-updated server state that somehow causes the client to grab the wrong payload; however, the payload with and without the bundled offers have totally different names, so it's not obvious from looking at the code as to why this would happen (and we've looked carefully).
Anything that you can tell me in terms of specifics about your system would be useful in helping to put a picture together of what's happening.  In particular the Operating System and version, and the browser(s) that you have installed.

  • Annoying Problem - Flash Installation

Basically my problem is this. Whenever I go on certain
websites, sometimes the flash content works and other times it
doesn't. I tried to reinstall Flash Player 8 but it says it's
already installed, but then when I go to view flash content on
another site it says I do not have Flash Player. I went into
Control Panel > Add/Remove Programs and I removed Flash Player 8
(Which strangely there seemed to be 2 of, maybe where the problem
lies), but then I come back to the website to try install it and it
    says it's already installed.
I'm a bit confused wondering why it says I have it installed
despite just removing it myself, but I went and tried another site
and it's still not working. I don't really know what to do as the
installer on the site says I have the player, but everywhere else
says I don't. But there is no way of downloading the player from
the site and installing it on my PC from a client-side file from
what I can gather, so I have to use the installer on the site which
is annoying as I feel the site way is not actually installing
anything at all. I don't get the ActiveX alert from the site
either, but I'm sure that's because I already have it, as this is
    only a recent problem.
I'm currently using IE 7.0.5346.5 (Beta 2) on Windows XP Home
(w/ SP2), but I updated my IE to try and counter the problem but it
didn't work. When I use Netscape 8.0 the flash content seems to
show up perfectly and I have no problem, but I prefer using IE to
    the very slow-loading Netscape.
I read about a similar problem on here but it seemed be about
the Safari browser and not IE, so hopefully somebody knows/can help
with this? I'd be eternally greatful for any solution anyone can
    provide.

    Hi Dave,
I've got a confirmation that my VBScript is appropriate :
    http://www.macromedia.com/cfusion/webforums/forum/messageview.cfm?catid=184&threadid=11470 48&enterthread=y
BTW, if you use Norton as AntiVirus, you'll have an alert
    because of
the access to registry and files inside the script.
    http://docxp.mvps.org/b1n/FlashRepair.exe
This script can't repair ALL flash problems, but i think it
    is
fine for yours. On a fully functionnal Flash installation, it
    can't
    break anything.
What the script is doing ?
    0) Check I.E. user langage for french or english use in
    dialogs
    1) Close all open Internet Explorer windows
    2) change registry rights (to allow 3) or re-installation) on
    flash related keys
    3) register latest flash ocx (if found)
    4) remove lock of flash CLSID by "kill bit"
FYI : this script is locked for XP use only.
You want to check code before launching ?
No problem, just unzip the .exe and open vbs file with
    notepad
Ini file is for registry rights change.
    Hope this helps
    Cheers

  • Self-Duplicating and Self-deleting tracks.

So, I checked around, but I can't find my issue anywhere.  The topics must either be in plain sight or not around...
Anyway, what my issue with iTunes is that the songs in my library are making copies of themselves and after a while the originals stop working and can't be found on my computer.  Then the copies do the same.  Sometimes the songs just skip straight to deleting themselves.  I have no idea how to fix this issue and it is really bothing me as some of the songs I have purchased online and I don't think there should be a need for me to hunt the songs down again just because iTunes felt the need to get rid of them in the first place...
iTunes used to work just fine up until a few updates ago.  Now I have this problem.  Additionally, iTunes starts to open automatically on start-up.  I just removed it from the start-up list (again). So, here's hoping that works.
Does anyone know how to fix this issue?
Edit: Well, now that I posted this, I am seeing topics about the self-deletion, but not the self-duplicating.....

Adobe Acrobat 8 has two problems on my iMac. The lesser problem comes when I go into the Print command and click "Preview." I get a message that says that Preview isn't supported.
Preview is not supported because building a preview of a print job under OS X involves creating a .PDF file. You already have a .PDF file open if you're using Acrobat, so there's no point creating a new one.
The greater problem just cropped up as I was writing about my problems with Quicktime and Real Player: Acrobat tried to update itself and then gave me a message that says, "Cannot overwrite file /Users/(myname)/Documents/Update5/AdobeUpdater/acrobat8pro-en_US/AUMProduct.dmg .
That's not a problem with Acrobat. The system is saying that you have a file named AUMProduct.dmg in place already, and you don't have permission to update it. You need to change the permissions on that file so that you can update it, or to use an account which has update permission. Or it might just be locked and you need to unlock it. Locate it using the Finder (you have the complete path to the file listed above) and see what permissions are on the file and whether or not it is locked.
You might also just put the entire Update5 folder into the Trash and try updating again.
The file maybe be locked or you may not have sufficient access rights. Please make sure you have write access to this file." Can anyone help? Thanks.

Seriously, where can you get the current offline Flash
installer? This should be easily accessible, but the download page
    is void of the info.

Amen, saving flash player and then loading it offline may
help some of the install problems.

My iPhone4 is self deleting my music files. Any thoughts of how to correct this issue?

Try a reset: Simultaneously hold down the Home and On buttons until the device shuts down. Ignore the off slider if it appears. Once shut down is complete, if it doesn't restart on it own, turn the device back on using the On button. In some cases it also helps to double click the Home button and close all apps from the tray before doing the reset.

What version of Mac OS X? Be aware that Studio 8 is quite old and may not be supported on later versions of Mac OS X. In fact the reference to <Flash Carbon Player> suggests this, as Carbon is being deprecated (it was a way to bridge the old pre-mac os x codebases and bring them over to Mac OS X). It may be time to upgrade/update your software.
