Flash into Director tutorials?
Hi.
Can anybody recomend some beginners tutorials for bringing
Flash into Director?
Thanks
Sure, do you have more than one button in the Flash .swf? Do
you want to
send something unique from the Flash button, or do you just
want the
button to act as a trigger for the frame change?
You can use getURL("lingo:functionName(args)"); to call a
Lingo function
in a movie script.
You can use getURL("event:functionName,arg1"); to call a
lingo function
in a behavior attached to the Flash sprite.
You can use getURL("string to send"); to send data to a
function called
on getURL me, data in a behavior attached to the Flash
sprite.
The syntax for each is unique. The first two examples expect
any
argument to the Lingo function to be a number. You can use a
string if
you escape the quotation marks. The third example just sends
a string.
You can also send the contents of an array.

Integrating Flash Into Director
OK, here is the rundown:
I have three Flash 8 movies that I want to encapsulate in
Director 10.1.1
The movie1 is 725 frames long and is a standard movie.
After that, I want movie2 to load. Movie2 is an application
with it's own controls. I want Director to stop and let the
application run until the user selects the Exit button which loads
Movie3.
Movie3 is an exit screen with scrolling credits and
information. I want movie3 to continue playing until the user
clicks the Exit button there.
I have figured out how to get movie1 to play all the way
through and autoload into movie2 with a behavior script applied to
the first movie. I removed the stop() action at the end of movie1
and applied the following code:
on exitframe me
if sprite(me.spritenum).playing then
go to the frame
end if
end
This works fantastic, however movie2 and movie3 will not
hold. They play right through without stopping. I tried applying a
stop() action in the first frame of movie2 with no luck.
Does anyone have any suggestions?
**Edit**
Also, when I am importing the flash movies, should I use a
standard import or should I be selecting link to external
files?OK, more digging and trying and I think that I've got it.
I just applied another behavior script to the second and
third movies:
on exitFrame
go to the frame
end
The playhead stops and allows the user to watch movie1 which
then jumps to movie2 and then movie3.
For some strange reason, though my link buttons from one
movie to the other (a skip button in movie1, and the exit button in
movie2 which links to movie3) stopped working. However, the exit
button in movie3 is working just fine... -
Trouble Import Flash MX into Director MX
Hi I am newbie.
I had made a flash mx movie named main.swf. In this flash, i
put a movieclip that loads a video named video.flv from a folder
named Video.
If i run my swf (with flash player), it works. I mean, the
video is loaded.
But the problem is, when i import that main.swf to director
MX (I choose Link as external file), and I run the director, the
video is not loaded. The main.swf file is appear, but the movie
clip which load the video,
didnt appear.
Did i miss something? i put the dir file, eg tes.dir, and its
projector (tes.exe) in one folder with main.swf. So in that folder,
there are tes.dir, tes.exe, main.swf and a folder Video which
contains video.flv.
didnt appear
Please help me...> I am running MX 2004 and am experiencing the same
problems with my swf files when loading them into director. Maybe I
am just missing a step.
It's difficult to know, since you didn't answer any of my
other questions.
Have either/both of you installed the 10.1.1 update that
provides Flash
8 support? <

Cannot import swf files of flash player 8 into director
Since I upgraded to Flash 8 the swf files generated canot be
seen in Macromedia Director unless I am saving them as Flash 7. I
have updated both Flash and Director and the problem is persistent,
please help.ANY SUGGESTIONS PLEASE
I suggest there's no need to shout.
Try linking the Director cast member to the external swf file instead of fully importing it. You also should have the 10.1.1 update in place - this is particularly important. -
CSS Help! Inserting flash into a div has caused layout change
Hi,
I am trying to insert flash into a div. I'm new to CSS so I
think I must be doing something wrong. As soon as I insert the
flash the layout goes wrong and all divs below it are pushed down
out of my "main" div. I've now taken the flash.swf out and inserted
an image again, but it's still wrong. It previews fine in the
browser though.
Any ideas!?

Exporting Flash to Director WITH video
In Flash, I have created a digital camera, that, when a
button is pressed, the screen changes from showing pictures to
showing a video. This works all fine and well in Flash, however, it
has to work in Director. Now I imported it into Director, obviously
using version:Flash 6, but because of it being version 6, the video
didnt work, so i tried version 7, where the sound of the video
works, but no picture. version 8 isn't supported by the director im
using (MX 2004).
Does anyone know of a way that I can get around this?
Its so frustrating as it works fine in Flash! On the Mac - exporting to "Quicktime Video" produces a true
video file (fixed frame rate). It is not
an SWF on a track in the quicktime player - Windows users
only yhave the option to export a flash
track to QT.
On the Mac, exporting to just quicktime produces a flash
movie in QT.
The easiest way to tell is to look at the file size of the
SWF and then exported MOV - the MOV will
be MUCH larger - probably hundreds of MBs while the SWF may
only be 100k (give or take).

Pulling fla source into director
Does anyone know how/if you can pull a flash movie(s) into
Director and edit them within Director?
Here's the situation. I have three flash movies that I have
the source for (fla) that make up a preloader, the main movie and
an exit scene. I have been asked to convert the intanet web page
into a CD for distribution. Is there any way that I can pull the
FLA's into Director and be able to edit them from within the
Director console? I do not just want to import the swf. I would
like to be able to convert a Flash file into a dir file.
Any help would be appreciated.I appreciate your help, Sean. So I can't pull the source into
Director. I guess it's off to Amazon to pick up a Director Book.
A (very) short overview:
I have three swf movies that comprise a preloader screen
(zipping images and whizbang text) that fades into the main
interactive movie. The main movie is basically an in-depth web page
(all 17mb of it) with images, text, and animations. When you click
exit, you are directed to a third credits movie. This was all
developed in Flash a while ago and has been periodically updated.
Now, the 'boss' wants to be able to market what we've got
when she's at conventions, meetings, etc. She likes the intranet
page so much that she wants the content put on CD for distribution.
I need to take out some of the proprietary stuff and add a few
other links, e-mail addresses, change around some text and add some
video clips.
After researching, it seems that Director is a better way to
go for this purpose than Flash. I guess I can still make the
projector in Flash but the more that I read up on Director, the
more that I am impressed with it's ability to easily distribute
this kind of media.
Not only that, but I guess that I am kind of proud of my
creation. I like the fact that Director is so much harder to
decompile than Flash. -
Hi :
I am having a Text editor swf file.I am omporting thst fiel
into director and when i enter the data into text editor and make
customiztion like bold, underline i am able to apply it to the
content and also i am able to get the htnl format of that content
when i click a button of the swf file.
But what my problem is all this things are handled using the
Flash scripting and it is done in the swf file.but i just wanted
the content typed in the texteditor ito director. but i need the
way in which director can get the value typed in te texteditor.
how do i achive this.
Thanks and regards,
ajitHi,
In addition to what Mike said, you'd probably wat to create a
'wait until swf is
done' behavior. Something like:
on exitFrame
if sprite(3).frame < sprite(3).member.frameCount then go
to the frame
end
where channel 3 is the swf sprite.
The above will keep looking in the frame until teh swf is
done, then will go to
the next frame.

Flash into dw wont go....
Dear All
I am using studio 8. I am wanting to insert a .swf file into
a section of a webpage index.html using DW8.
I place the .swf into the root folder, where the index.html
file is.
If i cut and paste teh code produced by flash into DW then
all is fine. It works on my remote server and my laptop.
However, if I attempt to use DW menus/commands to do this
autmoatically as in "common-tasks->flash" and select the .swf
file. A gray placeholder appears. When I press run all is fine.
When I use F12 to preview all is fine.
However if I then attempt to run the file from a my local
apache server I get errors messages. The page loads fine as before,
but the flash swf is simply not there. It doesn't work when its
uploaded either. It tells me that
AC_FL_RunContent is not defined and points to this line of
code that DW has inserted.
AC_FL_RunContent( 'codebase','
http://download.macromedia.com/pub/shockwave/cabs/flash/swflash.cab#version=7,0,19,0','wid th','220','height','140','title','fred','src','teacher_advert','quality','high','pluginspa ge','http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer','movie','teacher_advert'
); //end AC code
The site has run totally fine before.
I am at a bit of a loss to know how best to put a .swf into a
webpage really.
Any advice please?
many thanks EdwardUpload the Scripts folder that DW has placed in your site on
inserting this
Flash.

The drop down view by menu (Song, album, etc) at the right side of the iTunes window is like a ghost. It flashes into view for a millisecond once in awhile but never lets me click on it. Anyone know what this is about and what to do?
Short answer:
Click Hide Song(s), it is what you wanted to do...
Long answer:
iTunes in the Cloud is a feature of your iTunes store account that allows you to redownload or stream your past purchases. When you delete a purchased track that is downloaded to your computer (like the first one shown here) you are asked if you also want to hide the song from iCloud. This would remove it from the computer and also stop it showing up with the iCloud symbol as the other tracks from that album (which are not downloaded) do.
If a track shows with the cloud symbol you can play (stream) it by double-clicking the title, or click the cloud symbol to download a local copy to your library. If you try to delete one of these tracks you get a slightly different message confirming that you want to hide the track. Clicking hide will remove the listing from the library and any other device that shows your past purchases.
Should you want to retrieve any item hidden in this way at a later date use Store > View My Account > iTunes in the Cloud > Hidden Purchases > Manage.
To hide all your previous purchases that are not downloaded to your computer use Edit > Preferences > Store and untick Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases.

Embedding an interactive flash into Authorware
I want to embed a flash interactive into Authorware (see:
http://www.cellsalive.com/meiosis.htm
In the past I embedded a basic Flash animation into
Authorware and it seem to work ok. I'm not sure of more complex
ones i.e. that have interactive controls etc. I assume its not so
simple as to embed into authorware. Is it the case that it is
doable, but requires some configuration/programming? Or does it
work be simply embedding the complex interactive flash into
authorware?
thanks in advance

If the flash file id published for player version 6 (or
earlier) then
you can embed it using the Flash Asset Xtra, probably in the
same way as
you have before. If it is a later version you will need to
use the
Flash player ActiveX control.

I'm a multimedia student and my collegues and I have been debating weather we prefer Flash or Director. My teacher who teaches Director says he dislikes Flash and my teacher who teaches flash, says he dislikes director. Having worked with both, I personally dislike director, I find it's not as user friendly as flash but I do think scripting in lingo is easier than actionscript, anyhow for now that is. I'm still learning... Really, what is the difference between the two and what do you use them most for? Why would you work with one more than the other? Usually the demand is for flash, employers will ask you to have flash experience and java script. So why use Director?
Thanks for your feedbackKey difference: Sooner or later Adobe will decide they hate Director and end it* (Director seems to take less system resources, something Adobe doesn't seem to care; it also does 3D, but that is something Flash Player 11 Incubator is now capable of). They don't seem to want to see Flash end, on the other hand. Director is also far more expensive.
So the answer is simple here. Go for Flash.
*Personal opinion only, I don't know what's the actual decision Adobe will make -
Iweb; put FLASH into Idisk, only can see the FLASH when giving a password
I have a headache from it! I spent a lot of time making a website for my own company. I put flash into my site like the way Iwebunlimited do it: http://www.iwebunlimited.com/videotutorials/Entries/2008/4/4Flash_iniWeb.html
This works, but if people on other computers take a look on my website they can't see the FLASH, they have to put in a name and password. So my first page is only FLASh and they can't see anything..How can I resolve this? I'm pulling my hair out of my head..
Or is there an other way to put FLASH into Iweb?
Thank you already for maybe helping me...

Dean's Director Tutorials Have Moved
Hi all,
An announcement of my own for all that are interested - I've
set up a
new domain to house my Director tutorials. They are now at:
http://www.deansdirectortutorials.com/
The old site is still around but will be taken down soon. My
tutorials
have lived happily on the university site for many years. The
move is
happening for a few reasons, mainly due to the old home
undergoing
changes in style and direction, which do not correspond with
what I want
from the tutorial site. At its new URL, I hope it can expand
further and
become a valuable resource for future Director developers.
I intend to redesign the site when I have a chance. If anyone
has
suggestions, feel free to email them to me.
I'm posting here first as these forums have always been my
favourite
Director meeting ground. It's where I gained help and
knowledge when I
was developing my skills and where I hope to continue to
contribute to
those who need help.
Thanks for reading. Wish you all the best with your Director
endeavours.

email: [email protected]Ah., i was able to get this to work, but I had to reference lights and camera by number and not by name
what I was using:
p3Dmember = sprite(me.spriteNum).member
pCharacter = p3Dmember.model("controlObj")
myLightr = p3Dmember.light("light01")
pCharacter.addChild(myLight,#preserveWorld)
What actually works:
p3Dmember = sprite(me.spriteNum).member
pCharacter = p3Dmember.model("controlObj")
myLightr = p3Dmember.light[1]
pCharacter.addChild(myLight,#preserveWorld)
So we cannot reference scene lights and cameras by name if they are preexisting? However, we can reference models in the scene by name? Any reasoning to this? -
Export svg sequence from Flash into Edge?
Hey there,
I'm really struggling to get a animation out of Flash into Edge as a frame by frame SVG sequence.
I've tried the Flash2SVG extension in multiple Flash versions and it doesn't work.
At the moment I'm doing this...
from Flash CS6 export FXG
import into Illustrator CS6
save as SVG
import in Edge
which is very time consuming and sometimes stuffs up positioning of elements in each frame.
Anyone got a solution?
Thanks in advance. The latest Flash CC 2014 release has an export to SVG option, which exports the current frame as SVG. There is no direct way to export the entire animation as SVG sequence though.
