Flash is installed, but Firefox cannot detect it?
I've got Flash 10.3 installed ([http://dl.dropbox.com/u/104526/FF-InternetPlugins.png screenshot of installed system plugins] screenshot of installed system plugins) and yet Firefox will not detect its existence. I've tried reinstalling both Flash and Firefox to no effect. I'm a little stumped, to be honest.
You're welcome

Adobe flash is installed, but firefox won't use it
I have flash 11.1 installed. It's icon appears in my app list, but firefox' add on list doesn't have it. How do I fix this?
I have a very similar problem, as do lots of others judging by the number of posts in this forum. I use Flash rarely, so unsure when things went wrong, but I first noticed with Fx 34.0. I tried 34.1 - same. Now on 33.1 - same. Not prepared to try reinstalling any earlier versions as it's so much work (have to uninstall Fx completely, reinstall from backup and set up Fx completely from scratch including all add-ons).
What I have found is that if I reinstall Flash, then it works the first time Fx is used. Once Fx has been completely closed down, then Flash will not work in Fx again until Flash is again reinstalled. Obviously this is not a working solution.

Flash 10 installed but not being detected by numerous sites
Hi!
I have installed and re-installed Flash 10 numerous times
over the past day trying to get it to work. I have followed the
"Trouble Installing Flash for Windows" solutions including Subinacl
and everything else that is suggested there. I have also deleted
the Configuration Flag Registry Key that was mentioned in another
Adobe bulletin. I tried uninstalling flash using the utility from
safe mode to ensure nothing else was using flash, I also
uninstalled it from the cmd prompt. I downloaded all the installers
to my desktop so everything is running from there. When I go to the
Adobe site that verifies the version, it recognizes the correct
version that I have installed. I've lowered my security levels to
precarious levels and I'm all out of options. I am running IE7,
Windows Vista business, and Flash 10. I went to some of the Adobe
sites of the day to try and see if it was working and here were the
results:
www.cbc.ca/thetudors - Shows black screen where Flash should
play and shows the yellow triangle done with errors icon with the
following error - "unexpected call to method or property access"
www.gettheglass.com - Successfully played the game and no
issues were experienced
www.forces.ca - Error message saying I don't have the correct
flash installed
www.thestar.com/sports - Flash video player worked with no
issues
www.youtube.com - videos work with no issue
I'm at a loss as to why this isn't working and I need the
Flash player for an online course I started on Saturday. When I log
on to that site it tells me that I don't have the current version
of Flash installed either.
Any help would be great!!!
JayMknmuzic:
I spoke with the Tech support for my school and they said it
was a known issue for them that has crept up in the last few weeks.
Their solution was to uninstall Flash using the uninstaller from
the Adobe website, download and install Firefox, when Firefox asks
to keep your existing settings choose NO, then go to the Adobe
website and install Flash using the Firefox browser. I was rolling
my eyes the whole time they told me this because I wasted so much
time yesterday, but I'm happy to say this worked perfectly. All the
sites I listed that were not working are currently working with
Firefox.
Hopefully there is a fix for the IE issue soon.....

Adobe Flash Player, version 10.1.102.64 is installed, but I cannot access FP dependent applications (such as those on Facebook.)
I used the link you previously provided http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/fp_distribution3.html
to download the FP .exe and it worked for 2 days, but is no longer working and I'm getting the same message for both Mozilla & IE. The only things I recall doing prior to FP not working again was 1) sign up for G Mail & 2) I used Save As to dwld a number of Images from Google. I also rolled back my PC a day, but that has not fixed the issue. I get the error both in IE & Mozilla.
I've reviewed HK Local Machine/Software/Adobe, but there is no file folder for Flash Player under HK HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/Software/Adobe {though there are folders for Shockwave, etc.) Does anyone know the KEYS for Flash Player, that I could add manually?
System Information:
Win XP Home, SP 2
IE 8.0.6001.18702
Mozilla 3.6.12
Flash Player 10.1.102.64

Flash 11 installed but not detected by websites
Can any body help? I'm about to go postal here. I am really hating Flash! I'm trying to upgrade our computers because suddenly most websites quite working (saying we needed a newer version of Flash). So round and round I go trying to get it working.
I finally gave up getting the stuipd thing to install with Group Policy Manager (there is a *major* problem with the .msi install package Adobe provides from V10 forward...even though it worked just dandy for 9 and down). Instead, I moved to the Software Update Services route instead.
Now all of my computers have Flash 11 installed -- but half of them don't work!!!. I can look in my logs and see "successful" install on all systems. I can go into add/remove programs on any computer and see Flash 11 is installed. However, web sites say that flash has to be installed. Even going to the Adobe site on these systems comes up with a message saying that Flash needs to be installed.
I'll tell my users they can't use any Flash-enabled site before I start trotting around computer-to-computer to manually install Flash player!
Can anybody offer suggestions on how to fix this thing? Centralized install is absolutly required.
Thanks for you help! Here is the flashinstall.log from a computer where flash does not work.

I have just installed Firefox 4.0. I cannot install the extension called Springpad extension, found here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/springpad/
I click add to Firefox, it downloads, prompts me that the author is not verified and I click 'Install Now'. It then says "Springpad extension could not be installed because Firefox cannot modify the needed file". What am I missing here?Unable to get Springpad Browser Extension to show up on my browser even though it is with-in my existing add-ons. I was having problems with the Springpad Browser Extension so I thought I would uninstall it and reinstall it but that hasn't worked. So I would like to know how to get it back so I can use it. When I go to the help button and click add-ons to search for Springpad, it does not come up in the results. So I tried using the link on my Springpad homepage website, but it didn't work. Then I searched Firefox support and found this post and tried installing it using the link here. It shows up now in my list of existing add-ons, but when I enabled it, it did not show up on my browser as a clickable icon I can use to spring a web-site. I'm stuck now!
However, the reason for uninstalling it is there is no longer a"back arrow, the + sign, home, or scissors" at the top of the Springpad Browser Extension for Firefox? I have to log out and back in in order to get back to my notebooks because I am unable to get to them without a home button or a back button...and now I can't just click the scissors to spring a web-page. How are we supposed to spring a web-page now?
Disappointed,

regards. madhuYou usually get this error if you try to install an extension that needs to be unpacked to work properly.<br />
Current Firefox version do not unpack an extension automatically, but rename the xpi file to the extension's GUID.
An extension that needs to be unpacked should have an unpack flag in its install.rdf file
<pre><nowiki><em:unpack>true</em:unpack></nowiki></pre>
*https://developer.mozilla.org/En/Updating_extensions_for_Firefox_4.0#XPI_unpacking
You can try to set the extensions.alwaysUnpack pref to true on the <b>about:config</b> page.
The extension seems to install, but I haven't tested if it works.

In an earlier version (Firefox v.31) on this, and (presently) on two other PC's, I was/am able to run add-on FT DeepDark 11.3.1 without any problems. It was only recently - after updating to v.32.0.3 on this PC that this situation started. The PC in question is a Dell Dimension 8400 Intel P4 running Windows 7, though I'm thinking it may have something to do with the newer version of Firefox. Could anyone help me with this? I like this add-on because it is easier in my eyes when browsing the internet. Thanks
PS: Attempted to install the troubleshooter, and again I received a similar error: "Troubleshooter could not be installed because Firefox cannot modify the needed file."This error has been reported before in this bug:
https://bugzilla.mozilla.org/show_bug.cgi?id=730040#c21
Please read that bug I linked you to and let me know if the last comment in the bug solves your problem. Apparently the problem is about the addon .xpi file being read-only. i connect my externalpendrive to macbook pro but it cannot detect and my important data is there in my pen drive so how can i collect this data from my pendrive?
make sure that in your finder preferences you have it checked to show external drives on the desktop and in the sidebar of finder
you find these preferences by selecting the finder icon (blue square on the dock w/ smiley face on it) then click on the work "finder" at top left corner of computer screen then click on preferences then general and put check next to show these items on the desktop and put check next to external drives
now you should see it on the desktop if you still can't open the drive or access it, it may be in format the mac can't read or write to so that could be an issue. -
When going through the download process with social monkee and getting to the point of adding it to firefox I get the following message: 'Social Monkee could not be installed because firefox cannot modify the needed file'. How can this be fixed?
That is usually caused by a missing unpack directive (<em:unpack>true</em:unpack>) in the file install.rdf of that extension.

Flash 9 installed, but unable to view on pages
I've been helping my uncle with some recent software updates.
Recently, he renewed his Norton Internet Security subscription (for
2 years) and got a free copy of Systemworks out of the deal. Around
the same time, MSN just updated his browser and connection software
(he's on MSN dial-up).
Ever since, his Flash hasn't been working. He had 7, so he
thought he needed to update. Going to the Flash 9 install page
failed to work. Through the MSN browser, no ActiveX control
security dialog happened. I did a clean uninstall of Flash and was
able to get that security dialog. That didn't help, since no
download box came up.
So, I came home. On my computer I downloaded an
install_flash_9 msi package, burned that to a CD and installed it
on his computer. When we go to a site that has flash, it still just
shows a box with an X. I can right click on that and get the
"about" "settings" and "About Flash 9" options, but nothing there
helps.
I searched all over MSN's settings, but haven't found
anything that would block flash. I tried temporarily disabling
Norton, but that didn't help either.
His computer is slow because he has a million spyware
blockers and popup blockers, but I did make sure to shut those
down. I also went through plain IE and checked the Norton Settings
there. I made sure to allow all Flash and ActiveX content there.
Still nothing.
Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.
WackmanMSN uses the MSN Explorer, which I think is IE6 based. He
also has IE6 installed, and that's where I can get to the Norton
Internet Security controls. I have already gone to Internet Options
and enabled all the Active X stuff. That didn't work.
I could try to run getflash again, but I think it's installed
OK. Sites report that flash is installed, but applets aren't coming
through. I *think* MSN has foisted on him an MSN Firewall which he
doesn't need with the Norton stuff. -
[Add-on] could not be installed because firefox cannot modify the needed file
I've tried both Zotero & Firefox forums with no success:
Zotero could not be installed because Firefox cannot modify the needed file.
I've deleted my cache, restarted firefox and computer, tried in various versions of Firefox (currently 8.0 which the add-on store says is compatible). I'm running brand new Mac with Windows for Mac 2011, have tried downloading in Safari & dropping into Firefox, from the Firefox add-ons and directly from the site. The add-ons says - unable to install & both the other methods list the above error (cannot modify the needed file).
Thanks in advance. This can be a problem with the file(s) that store the extensions registry.
Delete the files extensions.* (extensions.sqlite, extensions.ini, extensions.cache, extensions.rdf) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox [[Profiles|profile folder]] to reset the extensions registry.<br />
New files will be created when required.
See "Corrupt extension files":
* http://kb.mozillazine.org/Unable_to_install_themes_or_extensions
* Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
If you see disabled, not compatible, extensions in "Tools > Add-ons > Extensions" then click the Tools button at the left side of the Search Bar (or click the "Find Updates" button in older Firefox versions) to do a compatibility check or see if there is an update. -
Add-on could not be installed because Firefox cannot modify the necessary file.
I see that for the issue:
<Add-on> could not be installed because Firefox cannot modify the necessary file.
The usual fixes include:
- ensuring that xpinstall.enabled is set to true
- ensuring that extensions.alwaysUnpack is set to true
What might be the non-usual fixes as I have set both to true and I still get the message above.
I have tried installing the <add-on> after I have set the values to true, then again after restarting my browser, then again after restarting my computer and finally tried creating a new profile and repeated each of the steps after setting the 2 preferences to true. Can you at least update to the latest Firefox 10.0.10 ESR version?
Firefox 10.0.x ESR:

So a new profile with no other extensions didn't work as well?

Which extension is causing this problem or can't you install any extensions at all?
