Flash is killing my MacBook Air

Whenever I watch a video in Chrome or Safari, the Flash plug-in sends the CPU through the roof. The fan on my MacBook Air goes bonkers and it runs really hot. I have to force quit the applications in Activity Monitor to bring the machine back to normal. All my software is up to date.

The CPU will run at 90-110% before I kill it. I don't know how hot it runs but the fan goes into overtime.
And just now, I've connected my iPad to my Macbook and iPhoto is syncing. The same thing is happening: the fan is going really fast (normally I can't even hear it, but right now it's super loud and the top of my Macbook near the power socket is very hot to touch) and in Activity Monitor, iPHoto is at betwwen 140 and 150% of CPU.
This just doesn't seem normal, but this is my first Mac so I don't really know.

You can upgrade that, but you will void the warranty. That MacBook Air requires flash storage that it's not sold everywhere, so you can purchase more flash storage at OWC > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/SSD/OWC/Aura_Pro_Air_2012

10.5.2 killed my MacBook Air DEAD.

10.5.2 completely killed my MacBook Air.
i just installed the 10.5.2 update from the 343MB Combo updater downloaded from Apple. installation went fine... clicked to restart... showed the "need to update boot caches" window/warning. clicked "okay". it continued and went to the blue screen with the spinny wheel. then rebooted.
went to a grey screen... and nothing else. no Apple. no spinny wheel. nothing.
left it there for a good 20 minutes. no hard drive noise. nothing was happening.
powered it up again. grey screen. nothing happens. no Apple. no "no" symbol. no anything.
restarted with D to try out that new built-in hardware test. NOTHING.
restarted with "option" to get the bootloader screen. NOTHING.
restarted with apple-V... obviously it wasn't even getting that far. so still NOTHING.
restarted with the PRAM reset combo. at least i got the chime. did it 3 times. then... NOTHING. grey screen still.
restarted with the SMC reset key-combo. got the chime... then NOTHING. grey screen.
i have run out of key combinations to try. and the machine is functionally dead.
normally at this point i'd try a "T" and mount it on another machine to see what is going on. but... this is a MacBook Air.
anyone have any ideas? this is beyond frustrating.

When a light bulb files, it's usually fails when it is turned on. Ditto for most electronic devices. Whether it's a surge or whatever, it's probably true that your logic board would have failed when you started the computer up for whatever reason. There is no evidence that software can damage hardware directly, or at least instantly. Besides, the update should not have any effect on the computer until the boot process is well under way.
Bad software might cause a computer to overheat, etc., but not to damage a component on boot.

How do i run a file from my flash drive on my macbook air?

I haven't got a clue what I'm doing. I have saved content from a papercrafting software CD to my flash drive and am trying to open/run it on my new Macbook Air. When I try to run it I get a promp saying it can't open the application because Microsoft Wondows applications are not supported on OS X. It's a .exe file ... Do I need to buy an app to run it??

You need to use CrossOver Mac, WineSkin, or Windows. CrossOver Mac has a free trial.

I'm thinking of jumping over to the dark side of and buying a MacBook Air
Is anyone using one of those for Flash Builder development?
Or do I need to get a more powerful MacBook Pro for that?

Macs are not remotely as functional as Windows 7 machines (you have to use command line for basic stuff, and just wait for the first time you drag and drop a folder over a folder with the same name and all the files that weren't in the folder you dragged go *pouf*).
Not to mention, the new Lion OS has deliberate borked most Adobe software.
Get more machine for your money, and stick with a PC!

How can I open my portable flash drive in my Macbook Air?

It doesn't pop-out and I can't figure out how to open it!

I have a personal portable flash drive of about 150GB and I would like to work on the the document stored in it. When I connect it to my Macbook Air via the USB port nothing happens. It doesnt pop open on the computer screen and I don't know where to navigate to set it open and work on my documents.
In my last laptop as soon as I connect the flash drive it pops-up and ask me "what I would like to do" and from there I carry on. But in this new Macbook Air I acquire about a month ago, everything seems up-side down and difficult to navigate.
My question is: how can I open my this portabble flash drive when connected to the Macbook Air? Hope that explains well. Cheers.

I watch YouTube a lot and use Safari 7.0.5 as my web browser of choice.
I don't usually play many online games though.

personally NO, unless you are using something that demands it.
aside the spat between adobe and apple, it does grind and hog the processor to death - hence why apple decided not to 'support' it.
-just take a look in activity monitor once it starts up.
It (can) also leave vunerabliites to virus 'type' infections;
IF you do indeed decide to load it up, be VERY carefull where you get it from, and ignore ANY POP UP message about updates etc -
*ALWAYS* ONLY go Direct to the adobe flash site, never, never any other 3rd party site. both for install and updates.

Apple will not upgrade computers. You can buy after market solid state drives - see OWC for example. The upgrade is relatively simple and OWC has training videos showing how to do it as well as tool kits with the tools you'll need. While Apple won't install it for you, many 3rd party repair sites will.

Run XP / Vista from a USB flash memory on my Macbook Air

Hello!
Does anyone know if it is possible to boot and run XP directly from a USB stick?
I am fairly new to Mac. So far I like it a lot however, due to my job I need to run some things in XP or Vista. Instead of "polluting" my new Macbook Air with a partition with XP I thought it would be neat to run XP from a USB stick. They are cheap and quite large nowadays but I really have no clue if it is doable technically. It might be too slow or there might be other issues that I don't know of.
Can anyone shed some light or point in the right direction.
All help will be highly appreciated.

I would guess that performance wouldn't be so good trying to run XP from an external hard drive, but I haven't tried it nor do I know if it is possible. I'm in the same boat with needing to run some XP programs.
I've been using VMware Fusion and it works well. However, the MBA runs hot and battery life suffers when just running VMware without much going on in the XP machine. You can probably put the XP VM on a usb key and have VMware run it from there. As for the software running in a VM rather than native, the programs run and the speed is tolerable but I don't mistake it for my ThinkPad. Depending on how much resources your software needs, the MBA may not be a good fit.

Mavericks killed my MacBook Air

Over night I downloaded Mavericks, having waited some weeks with the hope of avoiding any glitches. This morning I proceeded to install and suddenly got a fatal hard drive failure. As a solid-state drive, I innocently assumed this could not happen, especially after an OS update. But speaking with our tech consultant shortly afterwards, he told me that he had three other clients recently who have had their Macs die immediately upon upgrading to Mavericks. Interestingly, all were MacBook Air. I'm the fourth client of his with this problem.
Luckily, I backed up yesterday and am now trying to Time Machine restore to another MB Air. However, as a super loyal Mac user for the last 23 years (since I was 15!) I'm quite honestly shocked that this has happened. It's Apple after all. My machine was top of the line MB Air bought in Oct 2012 - only just over a year ago. Yet it's been rendered useless by a simple software update. And if I were not lucky enough to have a 2nd machine I bought at the same time, I would be unable to work for a week while the new one is replaced/repaired by Apple.
I would love some explanation as to why this happened. I feel let down by Apple. As somebody who has personally converted many offices and individuals to Apple over the years, I fell personally embarrassed by this blip. I now find myself emailing my colleagues to warn them to not upgrade.
I would appreciate any thoughts or responses you may have.

You're quite right. Roaring is not my thing. But I have to say I'm really surprised by this. My laptop is my work, as it is for most of us these days. We use Apple because we like the friendly aspect and because it's an incredibly brilliant professional tool.
In this day and age, I do think however it would be fair to expect that any potential errors would be flagged as part of the install process, before the problem actually happens. My machine should be smart enough to not crash itself. My MB Air is barely twelve months old and was working fine until the service upgrade. If this were a car, we would rightly have little tolerance for these kinds of issues. Especially, as I'm the ideal client who walks into the showroom every 6 months and says "I would like to buy another one of your cars/products please". I'm not working with a four year old machine.

Flash Crashing Browsers on Macbook Air

A couple of days ago my bowsers started crashing with the
message that a Flash Plugin has cuased an error.
It happens on both Safari and FireFox.
I have tried the Flash uninstaller. but when I reinstall the
same thing happens.
I have tried uninstalling all Adobe apps and all folders but
when I put flash back on the problem returns.
Im no tech talkin guy but it seems that the problem is not
directly in Flash and not related to any single browser.
Ive tried uninstalling things that I have installed recently
(Photoshop elements trial) but I cant get the flash plugins back up
and running without crashing the browsers.
Any help would be appreciated.

How do I access what is in my "other" on the flash drive on my Macbook Air?

My computer flash storage has a large amount that I would like to delete, however its located in the "other" how do I access and is there a way to either move it off the computer so that I can free up the space?
