Editing Flash CS4 files in Flash CS3
Looking to upgrade our main multimedia production machine from CS3 to CS4, but we probably won't upgrade all the other machines just yet.
Main question: If you work on a Flash file in CS4, can you work on it in CS3 and save it, or will some of the functionality be lost in doing so? Or is a matter of just having to save it in a certain way to make sure it works?
Also, is there any issue with importing CS3 Illustrator, Flash or any other kind of files into After Effects CS4?
Thanks!
Mattcs4 can save files for cs3 so, it "..is a matter of just having to save it in a certain way..".
you could lose some functionality if you used any flash player 10 capabilites that aren't in fp 9. to prevent that you would always publish for fp 9 in your cs4 file to ensure you could use the file in cs3.
i can't see any problems with importing non-flash cs4 files into flash cs3. -
A problem with importing layered PSD file into Flash
Hi.
There's a problem with importing layered PSD file into Flash.
If I import a layered PSD file, some part the color of the lower layer is shown at the edge of objects or shadows. Instead, if I crop each layers first and import them, there's no problem.
If the higher layer has brush or transparent effects, it becomes worse.
Any help with this problem?
Thanks. How was the original art created? Was the original RGB or CMYK? What is the resolution of the Photoshop file? Flash only works well with RGB and 72 pixel per inch resolution. If your original art is not set this way, then Flash will attempt to convert it as it imports it. Flash uses the sRGB color space. You'll get the best color translation if your Photoshop file is using this color preference.

Bringing Flash .swf files into Captivate
Greetings,
I use Captivate 2.0. I have been trying to bring a Flash .swf
file into Captivate with very little success. The flash file is
clickable (so that users can review case study information as they
complete Try It simulations). When I bring the Flash .swf file into
Captivate, it works. However, correction (or failure messages)
display every time the user clicks the Flash .swf file. Is there
anything that I can do within Captivate to stop this issue?
Ideally, I would like the Flash .swf to run on top of the Captivate
file so that users can view the case study details without having
to see the failure messages.
Please let me know if you have any questions about this. I
hope it makes sense to you.Hi Zabcde (or PMW or P?)
Can I just understand (sorry for being thick) your situation.
You're trying to get a flash movie into a captivate session that
the user can work on, see, interact with whilst they're also going
through a Captivate simulation (try it)? Does that mean that slides
are advancing for the simulation whilst you're watching the flash
movie? Or are they watching the Flash movie as a kind of help to
then go and do the Try It session?
If it's the first, then I would suggest calling the Flash swf
and the Captivate swf as seperate instances in flash (using
loadmovienum or something). If it's the second, you should be able
to remove the failure captions from that slide so they don't bug
you.
Apologies if I've got the wrong end of the stick though
Cheers

Hi!
Anyone knows if it’s possible to import a dll file into
Flash, or, if flash can connect in some way to a dll file?
Thanks in advance
PauloWell object expand is what I did then copy and paste, I am not certain of the reason to crop.
this is what i got when I expanded copied and pasted. so I do not think the crop is necessary it pastes as a symbol and the symbol is clipped which I think is what you want.
But if in this case you want the stroke as well once you select anyone of the countries they have no stroke according t the tool bar proxy and so it you give it a stroke using say a swatch and then expand copy and paste you get both the fill and the stroke if you desire the stroke as well.
In the case of France and Paris once you paste those into Flash after you stroke and expand then you select both the city and the country and make that into a symbol so that they are one.
And I notice from the art you sent all you have to do is select a country expand, copy, paste and then undo the expand and you are good t go do your work. -
Image problems importing Illustrator 10 file into Flash MX.
Hello,
I'm working on my portfolio and want to import an Illustrator
(version 10) file into Flash (Flash MX). The problem I'm having is
that when I import the Illustrator file into Flash, it comes out
looking blurred. I tried exporting the Illustrator file into
Photoshop and saving it as a JPEG, PNG, and TIFF (in each file
format, changing the image size to 72 dpi) and I still get the same
blurred result. I also tried saving the file for web, in
Illustrator (in JPEG and PNG formats) with no success as well.
The Illustrator file is a small collage of my graphic design
work (where I pasted graphic work done in Illustraor and made
clipping masks to collage them together), so I'm not sure if
bringing these files together maybe causing some technical issue or
is importing Illustrator files into Flash just something that will
always appear blurred. If so, is there a way I can bring the file
into Photoshop and work with it where I can import it without the
blurred appearance?
Any help will be greatly appreciated.Hi Matthew,

We have multiple request to add support for externally linked files and certainly see the value. There also are a couple third party solutions that offer linked file behavior (I'm not sure what versions of Ps they work with). You can see and add to the request (and find the third party solutions) here:

Inserting flash .swf file into template
I want to insert a flash file into the right sidebar to appear on all pages of the website. I know I need to do this via the template. I think I need to click in the insertion point, then copy the code (make sure the files are in the correct location). I've done this before with galleries ect.. but not in DW and not from a template. What's a little confusing is there are 3 templates. The first is in it's own folder (design template), the other two (theme 01 design & theme 01 design from template) are in the root folder, but the theme 01 design one doesn't seem to be changeale. Which template should I be working with?
www.wranglergirl.net
Thanks from a newbie! AmyAre each of these 'templates' actually DW templates (i.e., are they named with a *.dwt extension)? If so, then they must all be located within the Templates folder at the root level of the site - it doesn't sound like that is the case. Also, why do you need three templates? Finally, which version of DW are you using? It's likely that you will have to make any links to your Flash element with ROOT relative links to be successful.

Other problems with loading Captivate files into Flash AS3 project
I have a Captivate file done with Captivate 3, published to
Flash player 9 that is being loaded into Flash AS3. The captivate
is a simple recording of some mouse clicks in a browser. I am
displaying the playbar along the bottom, and its buttons all work
fine except for the progress bar, where you can drag the knob and
scrub back & forth in your presentation.
This progress bar is not working as it should. I see the
mouse cursor change to a hand, but when I click I cannot drag the
knob to control the progress bar. The other buttons in the playbar
do work (replay, pause, play, back, forward).
This is a unique problem in that it is only happening when
viewed in IE (7) when loaded into my Flash AS3 project. When viewed
in Firefox in my project, or as a standalone SWF, or as a SWF
simply embedded onto a plain HTML page, it works just fine.
Does anybody have any insight?
Another thing I notice with loading Captivate files with AS3
is the the amount of output messages it displays. Rather annoying
(unless this is a "feature" I've yet to be aware of - heh)Hi,
I know exactly how you feel, there is simple answer; replace
Captivate for Camtasia Studio 5 at techsmith.com. The weight on
those shoulders will be gone! You'll smile more, be more
socialable. One Happy Person.
I am very happy person ;)

Flash Source Files into Captivate 5
Hello All,
Need some help. I had some files developed by a client whom will remain nameless, and I promise not to mention anything about them because your experience may be better than mine. I have flash source files that won't play nice on this new LMS. I would like to take the source files and import the files into Captivate, so I can use Captivate to publish the course originally derived in Flash. Can someone explain to me how I can make this happen and maintain the functionality that I have in the swf files.
Chris. So you have a course developed entirely in Flash and you have the FLA source files and want to import these into Captivate? If that is what you mean then unfortunately that is not possible.
Although Flash and Captivate are "similar" you cannot import a whole FLA file into the Captivate authoring environment like that. You can import animations, widgets and relatively complex Flash stuff into Captivate by inserting this as an animation into a Captivate slide but not a complete course.
If you want to use Captivate for your course then unfortunately you will need to create the course in Captivate from the start.

Import Illustrator file into Flash
I'm using Flash CS4 and I want to import an *AI file that contains the shapes of Europe's countries. The thing is that each country has a filling of dots (blue or yellow) instead of a solid color. Here is a screenshot of my Illustrator screen:http://img5.imageshack.us/img5/6983/testedd.jpg
When I import the AI into Flash all these dots become rasterized and everything looks like squashed because, I no longer have vector dots but instead bitmaps. Example of the exported SWF: http://takeab.us/SPL_embed/index_carte.html
(try and right-click and Zoom In; you'll see how bad it looks)
So, what's the best way in importing an AI file and keeping also the vector shapes? I've tried with a version EPS and still no hope.Well object expand is what I did then copy and paste, I am not certain of the reason to crop.

Importing a layered photohop file into flash [CS3]
Hi there, new to the Forums here and for starters heres a
good challenge for you.
I have a .psd file with a background image and 3 layers above
this. The 3 layers have numberous layer styles and settings applied
to them.
See Image >>
I have tried importing this psd into flash by converting the
top 3 layers into movie clips (and selecting keep layers editable
in the settings) when importing. (Think I found this on a tutorial
from Computer Arts.)
While this does import the layers all the layers styles do
not seem to be displaying correctly as in the photoshop document.
I hope someone can give me a little guidance on this matter
as the resident flash guy in the media centre I work in wasnt able
to help!
The .psd file is below hosted on mediafire if anyone wants to
try it out.

Issue when importing ai files into Flash
Okay I have an Adobe Illustrator CS4 file that I am trying to import into Flash CS4. The file is fine in illustrator, it's just when it comes into Flash that it has problems. Namely, it doesn't render the shape correctly even though the subobject profile path is correct. See attachment. We're really zoomed in here, the shape itself isn't much larger than 10px square.
I've deduced that it is a scaling issue, but don't know how to get around it other than redrawing the shape again in flash. It's not like flash has an issue with tiny elements, it seems to have an issue with elements drawn at a larger scale in ai and then scaled down, be it in ai directly or in flash after import. There is a threshold in which it no longer wants to draw the shapes correctly anymore, as if the curve handles are being ignored and it's merely trying to draw a straight line. Again this same file if brought in much larger renders properly, it's only when it has been scaled down previously that it becomes confused.
Anyone have any ideas on how to get around this problem? Are you running the latest version of Flash CS4 (I believe it is 10.0.2)? I don't have CS4, but I think I recall that something similar came up some months ago and the solution was to install the latest update for Flash CS4.

Upload local PSD or EPS file into flash-movie at runtime
Hi there, I would like to upload a local PSD or EPS file into a flash-movie at runtime. I'm sure the data will have to be encoded into a PNG file for it to be displayed properly in the movie to include any transparency. Any ideas? I can't find an EPSEncoder or PSDEncoder. Thanks.
That's a bumpy road, especially considering the rapid pace of PSD evolvement. You can always find a disgruntled coder trying to deal with the process of unpacking PSD but if you look there's some older libs still out there trying to do it, YMMV. You really need to keep the PSD simple however.
I remember a while back AlivePDF could read EPS files, although I'm not sure to what extent. Might be worth a try. -
Dynamically importing a .mov file into flash
Hi,
I need to import a .mov file into a flash file and create a
.swf movie. I can do it through File > Import Movies option. But
I want to make it dynamic and import the movie. I would like to use
ActionScripts rather than the File> Import options. Pls let me
know if this is possible. Let me know if you have any questions.
Appreciate any help.
Thanks & Regards,
MageshYou can only dynamically load at runtime FLV movies.
You can automate the authoring time environment but this is
only with the Authoring tool. See

Good wishes againok, look, what I'm saying - in a roundabout way - is that converting video to flash isn't as simple as just doing a few API calls in java. why you want to do it in java at all is beyond me, to be honest. your best bet is to approach the problem another way, from the flash angle. do some googling, get a copy of adobe flash, and see how to convert from video to flash, using an application, before worrying about doing it in code. and I could be wrong here, but you won't "convert" a video to flash, you'll embed the video as an object inside a flash movie
but where java comes into the equation is anybody's guess. if you're hoping to do this on-the-fly in a JSP, as I suspect you are, forget it
