Flash killing mpd

Hey
I have problems viewing flash videos inside Swiftfox and then listening to music in mpd afterwards. Mpd stops working and when I try to restart it i get this message:
ALSA lib pcm_dmix.c:833:(snd_pcm_dmix_open) unable to create IPC semaphore
No audio_output specified and unable to detect a default audio output device
Mpd runs as a separate mpd user, and I've set up my /etc/asound.conf like this:
#/etc/asound.conf start:

Does anyone know how I can fix this?

I have this error too.

  • Apple's "FLASH KILLER" App

Will Apple (or someone) please make a Flash killer? Just as Final Cut Pro was a breathe of fresh air to the nonsense of Avid & Premiere, we need a simliar thing to happen to Adobe Flash.
    FLASH KILLER APP
    - A vector brush tool that's not like drawing with a tube of toothpaste. Professional content requires professional tools.
    - The ability both import and export between other applications & common formats seamlessly.
              - Ability to import and export layered files (PSD/TIF) between other apps, including layers within nested timelines.
Most workflows are circular with other apps, not linear.
    - HTML5 and SWF compatibility
    - An artist friendly interface (What pages was to MSword)
    - 3D compatibility
    - An artist friendly coding language (this is one of the only things Adobe Flash has gotten right).
    - Image Frame mode (option to see images in frames).
    - Storyboard Frames View mode (Ability to turn your timeline into a full screen storyboard. Can drag and drop frames where desired. Great for brainstorming and sketching something out beforehand, then stepping back to look at it during creation. Toggleable Timeline < > Storyboard Views. *Could add a slider to adjust how many frames it counts before making a new storyboard preview.
    - Smart Libary Pasting. In Flash you either get to keep the existing symbols, or replace them with new ones when pasting from one doc to another. In my experience, when you paste something you often want BOTH things in there. I'd definitely include that very basic option.
Anyone else? What do you wish Flash could do?

HTML5 support via iOS is extended yet again with an updated webkit in iOS 5.

  • Flash killed by Photoshop Elements 7

Installed new PSE 7 (not upgrade, removed PSE 3 first)on
vista 32, then flash player version 9.0.115 no longer works.
Unable to re-install flash, error. Unable to install newer
    version 10 flash, error.
Uninstalled flash using adobe standalone uninstaller, but
still flash would not install even with standalone installer. Tried
all suggestions from adobe flash technical pages, cleaned registry,
    still no go.
Restored vista system to before PSE 7 install, removed PSE 7
and flash works fine. Upgraded flash to ver 10, works fine.
Install PSE 7, flash no longer works and will not reinstall.
Removed PSE 7 again, flash works ok.
Seems that PSE 7 is overwriting a flash file somewhere, but
    what?
    Any ideas, greatly appreciated.

The Display > Folder Location view shows photos by folder, but only those that you've already imported into PSE.
The Adobe Photo Downloader will show you thumbnails of what's on a card and let you select which ones you want to download.  When the downloader opens (e.g. when you do File > Get Photos And Videos > From Camera Or Card Reader), click on Advanced Dialog at the bottom.
If you want to browse the photos at larger size, you can use Windows Explorer to navigate to the card (it should appear under Computer on Vista or My Computer on XP).  Double-click on a photo to see it at full size.

  • IE security download - Flash killer

Im sure by now that Microsoft and Macromedia are aware of the
issues with Flash and IE. Hopefully theyve taken steps to correct
the problem. Anyone have any updated info about the Windows
security update that made navigating flash webpages a pain in the
butt? Specifically any coding trick on how to get around it within
my own sites pages and how to make it easier for me to view pages,
without having to click here and click here again, and again, and
    again?

    >I wasnt aware, It wasnt an issue for me until just
    recently and it has
    >become a huge issue. What is it with this patent? And
    even more important,
    >why do they introduce problems in an automatic update?
My goodness .. you really are out of touch
It is the patent EOLAS hold on running applications from
    within a browser
via tags in the web page. It covers both Netscape et al embed
    tags and
applet tags and object tags. Basically this little company
    that exists
solely to keep patents holds the patent on the technology for
    any
interactive applications that run automatically in a web page
    (including
flash movies etc). They don't actually have any products ..
    just a patent.
EOLAS sued MS for over $500 million for breach of the patent
    (MS and
Netscape developed embed and object tags and activex controls
    etc
    independently of EOLAS).
Fortunately, the patent does NOT cover the case when an
    external text file
(eg JavaScript) is part of the process, nor does it cover the
    case where the
user has to start the application.
So .. in order to avoid having to pay massive licensing fees
    to this
pip-squeak patent-shark company (which would spell the end
    for a free
internet explorer), MS have had to change IE so that you
    either have to
click on the activex control (eg flash movie) OR it has to
    make use of
external JavaScript (ie the web page author uses different
    techniques in the
    html for the web page).
This change to IE is part of IE for good now. The recent
    security/update to
IE installs the changes required. You cannot take them out
    (but you CAN get
a temporary patch that removes the change until June/July
    sometime .. I
    forget when exactly).
This whole issue has been in the news for weeks (hundreds, if
    not thousands,
of articles on it). It has also been (and continues to be)
    discussed in
these forums/newsgroups. Do a search here, or a google search
    and you'll
find out lots of info (maybe too much) on the subject.

  • Flash 10.2 not working in Windows 7 IE8 despite 'successful' installation

    Hi there,
I downloaded flash player to attempt to view flash media on sites such as bbc website and youtube.
Despite the installation claiming to be successful, I still cannot view video on any sites I have tried.
(bbc website says I don't have the correct version, youtube says I need to upgrade)
My system details are as follows:
Windows 7 Home Premium, 32-bit operating system
Internet Explorer 8.0.7600.16385IC  (it makes no mention of being 64-bit)
    Flash Player 10.2.152.26
I have tried following the troubleshooting guides on the adobe website, particularly 'Flash player does not work in Windows 7'
but I have not managed to fix the problem.
I've also gone through several threads on this forum, relating to similar problems, but I'm sorry I haven't been able to fix it.
So far, the stuff I have tried is listed below, but since it has not worked, I assume I have done something incorrectly, missed something,
or I have not yet found the right solution.
The Flash Player does not appear on my programs list, but it does show up in the control panel/list of installed programs.
I don't know how to get flash player to run on its own, so I can't access settings etc. for the hardware acceleration.
The folder located at C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash contains 5 files:
    Flash10m.ocx; FlashInstall.log ; FlashUtil10m_ActiveX.dll; FlashUtil10m_ActiveX.exe; install.log
When I visit the adobe page for testing flash player, it does not show me any animation; there is a blank white rectangle with a tiny red 'X' in its top left corner, which I assume should be a box containing the version information if the player had been recognized.
I have looked at the IE8 'tools/Manage Add-Ons - 'show' All Add Ons, and there is no listing of  'Shockwave  Flash Object'
although there is a listing of   'shockwave activeX control' which is enabled.
I've set my IE8 security settings to medium for the categories of 'Trusted Sites' and 'Internet' and I've made sure to set:
'Download Signed ActiveX Controls' to 'Prompt'  and 'Run ActiveX Controls And Plug-ins' to 'Enable'
I've tried unintalling the flash player using the specified tool, removing the adobe download tool, and manual re-installation.
Finally, I tried (with much hesitation) to modify the registry key referred to in the Flash-Killer or 'kill-bit' guidlines.
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\ActiveX Compatibility\{D27CDB6E-AE6D-11CF-96B8-444553540000}
The key existed, with a Name: compatibility flags  ; Type: REG_DWORD  ; Data: 0x0000400 (1024)
So I changed the value from 400 to 000 as suggested.
This is not worked either, despite uninstalling flash player, re-booting and re-installing.
Finally, I updated the graphics driver for my ATI RADEON HD 5670 card, but aside from scaring me by drastically altering the screen resolution and not allowing me to roll back the driver, it has unfortunately not solved the flash player problem.
I appreciate that the people with expertise have given loads of help on this problem, I hope I haven't missed something important when following the advice, but I'm pretty stuck, so if anyone can help, I thank you very much.
    thanks,
    pad

    Hi eidnolb,
unfortunately, the installation of FP 9.0.280 based on running flashplayer9r280_winax.exe has not worked:
I cannot see the animation / spinning, there is no animation and no box showing the version.
(I have included a partial screenshot in this message, file name flashplayer_test_screenshot.jpg)
Therefore, I did not continue with the instructions.
The control panel list of programs does show 'Adobe Flash Player ActiveX' as being installed, version 9.0.280.0
There were no messenger utilites listed in the system tray.
As you advised, the first thing I did was to modify the {D27CDB6E-AE6D-11CF-96B8-444553540000} registry key value from 400 to 000.
After modifying the value by making it Zero, I re-started the computer.
Regarding Administrator Account, I looked on ther 'User Accounts' information, and there is only one user, my dad, and he is listed as Administrator.
Sorry, but I will need to ask for your further advice. In case it is useful, I tried to get a list of all processes that were running on the computer
(in case some of them inhibit the installation. most of them don't mean anything to me, even when they are given a description by the windows 7 Task Manager Processes List - I have pasted the text file below in this post, since I couldnt see how to attach files.)
    thank you for your help,
    pad2001

  • Flash Player refuses to work.

This is for an acquaintance of mine and is absolutely baffling me. I've uninstalled / installed a dozen different times and ways. I've checked the registry for the flash kill-bit, compared every internet setting to a computer whose flash is working fine and to no avail (including enabled javascript and activeX). In the Manage add-ons there is no Shockwave Flash Object listed after installation (all add-ons, run without permission, etc).
The computer is using IE 9 (9.0.8112.16421) on a Windows 7 machine, which was recently cleaned of a hijack which completely disabled the Internet Explorer which at the times was IE8.
Please help, I'm tearing my hair out trying to figure this thing out and will provide any information required.
Thank you in advance for any help recieved.
I should add that I have checked and re-checked and the browser I am using is indeed a 32-bit browser. The system is 64-bit and the files in my system folder are as follows:
    Flash10o.ocx (6,019kb)
    FlashInstall.log (2kb)
    FlashUtil10o_ActiveX.dll (305kb)
    FlashUtil10o_ActiveX.exe (230kb)
The system is running an anti-virus, however during 1 or 2 of my trial installations the system was running in safe mode with no modules of the anti-virus or any messenger services running.

Hi, I've had computer issues all day. Don't give up so easy:-) I'm on a laptop and don't have all of the info I need. Will try to reply tomorrow.
That Security Hijack can do a number on the computer. So Avast didn't remove it but MBAM did. I 've had a few threads involving that and it can come back even after being removed. So I would run MBAM daily until you can get Flash Player Installed (working)

  • How to start and stop mpd and ncmpcpp together?

I have got the setup of mpd+ncmpcpp working together. However, to start, I first have to start mpd in the console and then ncmpcpp. Also, to stop, I have to quit ncmpcpp (pressing q) and then kill mpd (using mpd --kill).
I was just wondering if there is a way out to make the whole process easy. I wish to accomplish:
    1. Start mpd followed by ncmpcpp from a ".desktop" file which would show up in the menu.
    2. Stop mpd when you quit ncmpcpp.
Any comments would be much appreciated.

I think if that is the functionality you are looking for, then maybe a different music program might suit your needs better.  I believe that cmus functions in that way.
Part of the appeal of mpd is that it runs as a daemon, so you can connect from it anywhere, be it locally or remotely.  For instance, I can connect to my server's running instance of mpd and listen and play music from that machine.  Or I can connect to my local instance of mpd and listen to music from this machine.

  • Cannot get video images after update flash player

My flash player is playing the audio portion but no video (just a black screen)
I have a new Win7 64 bit comp. using 32 bit Internet Explorer. I have flash version WIN 10.2.152.32 installed. I uninstalled using the adobe uninstaller, restarted between each step as admin (don't know if it matters but I am the only user listed with admin rights but I get the standard user account screen). I then manually installed the new flash player as admin. verified which version, verified all Explorer settings-trusted sites & internet zones-,(7 times now) I have checked the add ons and I am enabled everywhere I'm supposed to be,I never received any errors, nothing was open during installation and still black screen!   even tried to edit the registry (I don't have the line listed by the adobe post on flash killer). I run norton and have checked it is not blocking flash player or active X controls. I am completely at a loss for what to do next? HELP!

    Hi frustratedfrequently
So, after all this time, this was the problem. Glad you found this thread:-) I wish you would have come to the Flash Forum before
    !! Better late than never.
You can Uncheck that H.A. either way, as long as it's Flash content.
I appreciate your comments more than you know:-)

  • ON2 vs FLASH Moviestar!

    Hi guys,
new beta of Flash 9 codename "Moviestar" was released, o
course you all know that. Personally, I'm excited about the support
of h.264 in new version of Flash becouse video quality will go up
and file size(and data rate) will not change!
What do you think about the future of that new feature?
Quality and file size are dandy? So what about the future of
ON2? Will the h.264 support in Flash kill ON2?

the video is beautiful, that's all i know.

  • N82 Flash Performance

So how does the phone's flash perform its operation comparing to other hi end nokia camphones and other tops like k850i etc? Is it that outstanding or so so..?Message Edited by korngear on 30-Nov-200709:26 PM

    Ahem..
Well. Say you sittin in a literally non lit, pitch black room that's 13-15 feet in length. Take a picture with this 82 and it's like someone switched on a neon light in the room. I never knew I'd smile at a picture like this. Sure pic quality CAN be better, but the flasher kills off some of the quality disappointment. I wore glasses in college and only wear'em when I watch TV, till today. Without wearin' 'em now and lookin at pix compared betwwen this handset and the k850i.. I'd say what I see. About 6-70% brighter pix from the 82. Pic quality.. I don't know.. Hmmm.. And shanapps.. The red I don't light blinds the freak outta anybody just as much or more. ok ok.. its flash.. It's just perfect for the mobile phone age we're in, but for right now. Honestly, I'm satisfied. Alot!
    Peace..

  • HTML5 new tags vs. Flash

Everyone is talking about HTML5 killer... I was wondering what is the  bottom line here?
Does HTML5 with its new tags offers opening  .swf files without needing to have plug-in?
If that is true then I  understand why they say "killer" but not Flash killer, this is Flash  Player killer then which would basically be good, nobody would need  Flash Player and Flash would still work.
But can anyone tell me what is true here for real ?

The <video> tag just simplifies the markup for including video in a web page. No more <object> and <embed>.
The type of supported video depends on the browsers and their codecs.

  • Adobe flash support on toshiba 55L6200U TV browser?

Could someone from support team answer if 55L6200U will be getting adobe flash on tv browser? I just received my tv and this is the first thing I tested and found that it does not support flash. TV is awesome but no support for flash kills it.

    Hello Peter,
Hope you are having a nice day! I am a very proud owner of 55L6200U. Very nice Picture Quality. Even Standard definition channels are fantastic on this TV. For HD content, this TV's PQ is no inferior to my SAMSUNG (D7000 model). It beats the Samsung on PQ on SD Channells. Even the Picture Quality on Netflix/You Tube beats Samsung. But like the other poster said, No flash support & very few Apps.
Please request for FLASH support. Every TV brand has it. I am also an owner of 55L6200U and last year's model as well (55TL515U). Last year's had FLASH support, hence should not be difficult to add.
Without Flash support, the web browser and the nice keyboard is pretty much useless. Have to connect Laptop like old TV models!
Also last year's model had SKYPE APPS, this years model doesn't.  Compared to last year's model, this year has few APPS. Compared to other major brands like SAMSUNG, LG, SHARP, very very few APPS. I believe 6200 & 7200 are flagship model & hence should have good APPS & Support FLASH.
    Please pass this on.
Everyone of my friends/family are impressed when they see this for the first time even second/third time. I have hidden the keyboard as otherwise they would ask ........
Also one more Question : Is Toshiba going to release bigger screens like 60" or 65" in this series?
Also do you know why Toshibha is using LG panels on this prestigious line? According to experts in AVS forum, the LED Panel in L6200 is same as in LG model LM6700 & the one in L7200 is same as LG Model LM7600. Attaching pictures from AVS Forum
    Please help.
Thanks & Have a nice weekend!

  • Sound off and audio/video apps blocked

For a few days I have a very weird problem. After a few hours of using the computer (4-5, I leave it on when I go to work so I can stream my music), everything related to sound is dead.
For example, mpd dies without any errors written in the error log. If I try to restart it doesn't work. It just hangs with no errors. Also, if I try to open a flash video in any browser, the browser just hangs on with no errors. I even tried to open amarok from the shell and just hangs with no errors.
The problem disappears after I reboot the computer, so I think it's something related to the sound driver. I have a Creative Audigy SE card.
I'd like to be more explicit, but I don't know what and where to look for logs. Maybe next time it happens I'll put here some logs if someone gave me a hint.

Don't seem like a hardware failure to me (at least little probable). I'm experiencing the same problem.
As long as I can remember I've got this one at one point in the past too, but back then I haven't got much time to investigate and after some updates all have sorted out itself.
I also don't think it's a client problem since the hang happens with both mpc and sonata on my setup. Also mdp (runned as --verbose --no-daemon --stdout) says:
    interface 0: process command "status"
    interface 0: command returned 0
    interface 0: process command "currentsong"
    interface 0: command returned 0
    interface 0: process command "play"
Bang! Nothing more at this point: no actions calls, no events, no more infos. Although after a couple of minutes or after killing mpd there's added:
    interface 0: command returned 0
    interface 1: opened from 192.168.0.3
    interface 0: process command "status"
playlist: play 34:"Misc/Fall Out Boy - Dead On Arrival.mp3"

Bizarre? Yes! . Couriuos? Even more so!
    Also I've found this bug on mpd's mantis: http://www.musicpd.org/mantis/view.php?id=1479. So it's cross-distro and cross-hardware since I've got:
00:06.0 Multimedia audio controller: nVidia Corporation nForce2 AC97 Audio Controler (MCP) (rev a1)
and experienced it previously on some via and cmi. I hope someone will come with solution soon. I mean—it's getting bad on my listening addiction .
Oh! I forgot to mention that I've tried both specifying "device" and leaving it out in "audio_output".

  • I don't update anymore; what's my prognosis?

I've decided to ignore all updates from now on. I'm on iOS 5, Snow Leopard, Airport Extreme with 2 Express routers (one 'n' and one 'g' for music). I'm off of MobileMe (except for email), and have decided to forego iCloud.
I've learned from experience with many Macs that, every time I do a software update, the computer uses more memory, the battery doesn't last as long, performance slows, apps no longer work, miscellaneous pesky problems crop up. I used my PowerBook for 6 years. The only reason I replaced it was because, frankly, Flash killed it. I was still using OS 7 apps, and perfectly happy with them. Now I hear lots of complaints about Lion (look at the unusually high percentage of 1-star reviews on the App Store, so it seems like deja-vu. Skype on the iPhone is another good example of a downward spiral of qualtity with each update.
    Summary:
I will not longer update anything. Software updates are stacking up; I ignore them.
My MacBook Air (late 2010) is snappy fast, everything works, battery life is excellent, it boots in 15 seconds.
iOS 5 works fine, but I'm also ignoring any update intended for Lion and iCloud compatibility.
My wireless network works great. I never have to reboot.
Most importantly, I have over a dozen PowerPC apps that require Rosetta. They all work. Ahhh, nice.
I manually sync my contacts and calendar with a USB cable.
In other words, I'm happy. HOWEVER, here's my question:
How long can I "live in the past" like this? Besides the (remote) possibility that I might be vulnerable without doing security updates, what is the downside to this strategy?
I hear both good things and bad things about Lion and iCloud. The good things I don't seem to care about; the bad things are things I would find deal breakers. Am I being a Luddite for not moving to Lion, and iCloud? I'm not a "sharer" of photos and music between devices, I have other apps that sync what I need, I don't buy iBooks, I don't buy music on iTunes, I don't use Twitter. What''s going to "break" first, in your opinion?

I think in previous incarnations, people would have jumped all over you for your approach, but the Lion operating has generated decidely mixed or even negative reviews from users. So no one seems to disagree with you. I think many folks are simply staying with 10.6 and waiting to see if OS 10.8 is better than 10.7.  I've mostly avoided upgrading OS's, or when I do I jump over one version completely because I've waited long enough that I'm two versions behind.
Here are the things that will/would motivate me to update the OS:
    * incompatibility with MS-Office (I'm not a MS-Office fan but I do need to use it)
    * incompatibility with flash or other tools needed to view modern web content (this might be a while as I am still using several different Macs, the oldest being a 2005 PPC iMac with 10.5.8 and an fairly old/outdated flash, but it seems to still do ok with most web content). Our 2008 Intel Core 2 Duo iMac runs 10.6.8 and can do just about anything we need -- like you, I decided not to go to Lion because it didn't look like much of an improvement.
    * incompatibility with various commercial software, such as TurboTax, or with web sites I use to manage financial accounts and such things
We got my daughter a new Macbook Air just before she started college, and Lion plus a new Macbook Air model came out a month later. I am glad now about it actually, I think some of the Lion "issues" would have annoyed her greatly (especially the odd dropping of wireless access points under Lion, everyone is on wireless at colleges now). I'm hoping that the 10.8 OS will be better than Lion. We had (probably still have) a certificate for a free Lion upgrade but we decided not to use it.

  • Links in Hotmail emails don't open in new tab

Someone apparently made changes in about:config settings. I opened my home page MSN and when I clicked on Hotmail link, the Hotmail sign in page opened in a new tab. Previously when I clicked on teh Hotmail link on MSN home page, the sign in page would open in a new window in the same tab. I made a change in about:config and fixed that, though I cannot remember exactly what I did. Sorry for that! Now when I read one of my Hotmail messages, and I click on a link in one of them, the link opens in a window in the same tab. Until last night (after I returned from being out shopping) the link in a Hotmail message would open in a new tab. That's how I'd like it. I'd also like the Hotmail sign in page to open in a new window in the same tab when I click on the Hotmail link on the MSN homepage.
Can anyone tell me what I need to change in about:config to do this?

    Hi Morbus,
Please forgive the very delayed response. It is due to illness. I have copied and pasted the information as you instructed, and maybe you might have some insight as to what is going on. Any input is much appreciated.
