Flash makes my Firefox freeze

The Shockwave Flash plugin makes my Firefox freeze anytime I enter a page containing flash content. I am absolutely sure that it is the cause of the freezing as everytime I choose to activate it on obvious flash sites the whole browser freezes permanently (well at least until I shutdown Firefox with task manager)
I have googled this, reinstalled firefox/flash so many times but none of it works. And no I cannot change the hardware acceleration of flash that many reccomend as I cannot even load flash content at all.
Please help, Firefox is my favorite internet browser and the only one I actually like(d) and I detest Chrome and the other alternatives.

Hello,
Some problems with Flash video playback can be resolved by disabling hardware acceleration in your Flash Player settings. (See this article for more information on using the Flash plugin in Firefox).
To disable hardware acceleration in Flash Player:
#Go to this Adobe Flash Player Help page.
#Right-click on the Flash Player logo on that page.
#Click on Settings in the context menu. The Adobe Flash Player Settings screen will open.
# Click on the icon at the bottom-left of the Adobe Flash Player Settings window to open the Display panel. <br/> <br/> <br/>
# Remove the check mark from Enable hardware acceleration.
# Click Close to close the Adobe Flash Player Settings Window.
# Restart Firefox.
This Flash Player Help - Display Settings page has more information on Flash Player hardware acceleration, if you're interested.
Does this solve the problem? Let us know.

• Firefox freezes many times when I'm playing Flash Contents (Youtube)

Hello. I have upgraded to Firefox 2.6.8 a while ago. The problem occurred recently. Whenever I play Flash Content usually on Youtube, Firefox freezes for many times and it makes my computer runs slower. It's not normal because I have a fast computer

YouTube videos use the Flash plugin. You can test your Flash plugin and see what version is installed by going to Adobe's Flash Player test page. To update Flash to the latest version, see Managing the Flash plugin.
Starting in Firefox 3.6.4, Flash is loaded in a separate plugin-container process. For the background, see the articles What is plugin-container and Plugin-container and out-of-process plugins (MozillaZine KB).

Can't anyone just make a FU$%&# browser that works? I do not understand why I have to come on a forum and try this...or maybe that...or wait maybe this... just to be able to do what a browser is supposed to do..BROWSE THE INTERNET!
I switched over to Firefox from Chrome because Shockwave kept crashing non-stop while trying to listen to music on Soundcloud and now I have another browser that does the same thing except worse as far as I'm concerned because I have to restart the whole program.
I guess I just don't understand how it can be this difficult to accomplish tasks that seem so trivial in nature...the internet has been around for quite a while now and technology is evolving ever faster by the day but for some reason it seems that the reliability of web browsers is decreasing just as fast in the opposite direction.
Please excuse my frustration......I just wanna be able to listen to a whole DJ mix just one time. Is that really too much to ask? I can't even believe that I might have to resort back to IE...oh man...I thought things were moving forward but apparently I have been looking in the rear view mirror this whole time

• New v11.5 makes Firefox freeze: Is there a remedy?

Blithely downloaded v11.5 today.  Opened my regular bridge application in Firefox, bbo (bridgebase.com) and the Flash player froze Firefox (v 16.0.2).  I'm on Vista Premiium.
Ctrl+Alt+Del said Flash Player was using 90-100% of my cpu.
I uninstalled v11.5, found v10.3 at the adobe site, reinstalled that, and everything's working.
Surprised v11.5 wasn't tested to avoid such a problem.  Anyone know a remedy?
alanpmcd

(1) I've already, some time ago after previous Flash problems, taken
step 1 in the trouble-shooting, i.e. disabled Real Player Record plugin
(2) I've removed v11.5 to install v10.3.   This morning (uk time) I
can't seem to get back to download v11.5.  Every route I take to
download takes me to v10.3.  And this version makes my bridge work
So for the moment I'm happy, though I'd be glad to try more
troubleshooting if you can tell me how to get to download v11.5.

• In Firefox 31.0 a bug makes the browser freeze, and then I can't close tabs anymore, what may solve this?

Good afternoon. With the newest update of Firefox for PC (31.0), I have a problem that occurs almost every time I use the browser.
When trying to close a tab, it sometimes cause the browser to freeze during one minute.
Then a dialog-box appears on the screen. It says that the script "chrome://browser/content/tabbrowser.xml:2004" may be busy.
I can choose between two buttons in this dialog-box.
"Continue" which keeps the script running, in theory; though it just closes the dialog-box, makes the browser freeze again, and then the same dialog-box shows up.
"Stop the script" which ends the freeze; but then I'm unable to close tabs (I can still close the browser).
I also noticed that, when the freeze occurs, the content of the tab I tried to close changes to "New Tab".
When I restart the browser, I am able to close tab again, until the freeze shows up again.
The problem started to appear only when I updated Firefox to the 31.0 version (and I didn't add any browser extension in the meanwhile).
Does anyone have an idea of what I could do to avoid the problem? Thank you very much and have a good day!

In the immediate future you can try noscript or flashblock addons to block that script.
However upon more research in searching the current Firefox codebase: it seems to be referenced in there, but I do not see a reference to the port associated. The port is usually used for media. I would not know how to start to troubleshoot this, but are there any consistent steps/webpages that cause this to start?
Does this happen in Safe Mode, please see Troubleshoot Firefox issues using Safe Mode? And does it happen in a fresh install?

• Firefox freeze whenever flash error happens

I have the newest firefox and the flash debug version. Whenever there is  an flash error happen, the error message window popup, and then my  firefox freeze immediately. It seems like the problem only happen on  debug version of flash. I searched online, people said change the "dom.ipc.plugins.timeoutSecs" to -1 will fix the problem, but I tried, it doesn't really fix it. Anyone know anything I could try to fix it?
Thanks.

Hi. karaoke I am not sure if its the same issue. The crash at language switch on my computer was due to the IME for Eastern Language Banks (Language option -> Detail under text services and input languages -> Properties -> reset/untick auto learn).
If you are not using Eastern Language IME... I am sure others here have more experience and can better help you. =)

• Firefox freezes for up to a minute when I have two tabs open and running a video and a flash game. Why?

Firefox freezes for up to a minute when I have two tabs open, one playing a YouTube video, the other with a flash game running, and the screen shows the contents of both tabs, one superimposed on the other. If I have other tabs open, they also appear as visual garbage on the same screen. After the freeze, everything semi-works, starting and stopping, with long frozen hangs. The frequency of this problem is increasing and greatly reduces Firefox's operating capacity. I am using Firefox 5.0 on a Windows Vista desktop made by Hewlett-Packard. I have cleared the caches and the problem persists, and I can't find any online help to explain why this is happening. I don't recall it happening with a previous version of Firefox.

Hello jesterabk, Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
* You can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.
Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"
If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshooting extensions and themes article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.
Thank you.

• Firefox freezes everytime ~ OS X 10.5.8, Flash 10.3.183.10

Im also using OS X 10.5.8, Firefox 3.6.23 and have Flash 10.3.183.10 installed.  I am having a problem loading flash apps~ firefox freezes everytime and i must "force quit" firefox everytime.  In one of the gaming forums, players using chrome and other browsers are having issues as well.
On the mozilla firefox "plug-in check" page it lists all my plug ins and tells me if i need to update.
Even after I tried to do so, it still says I need to update.  Is this beacuse I am not using the latest version of flash (even though OS X 10.5 doesn't support latest version)?
Is this version of flash mentioned above the latest version that will work for me?  When i try to install updates, After I do so and restart firefox, it prompts me to do the whole process all over again~ over & over.  What the heck is going on?  Any trouble shooting tips or links would be helpful!

• Firefox Freezed by Fullscreen Flash Video (and trouble with Flash Video Settings)

I have a desktop computer with integrated nvidia graphics card and a notebook with integrated ati graphics card.
Both use Linux with Firefox 3.0.8 with Flash Player 10.22
If I use fullscreen in laptop(ati) no problem at all. In the desktop station(nvidia) if it is an embed video firefox freezes completely and I have to kill firefox. If I go to the original website of the video, no problem at all.
Wanted to try to deactivate hardware acceleration as stated in some forums, but no luck. Both computers when I right click a select settings, window opens but I can't do nothing at all, not even close them. I can only close (normaly) firefox to reopen it.

As it turns out, Skype also crashes if I try to use video - so I'm forced to confront the possibility that the problem is actually with my PC, or the updates windows has just installed.

• Firefox freezes with Flash addon enabled; doesn't freeze with Flash addon disabled.

Running Windows 8, Firefox 18.0.1, plugin Shockwave Flash 11.5.502.146 (current version, according to Firefox plugin check).
Firefox freezes every time when loading a page with Flash content when the Flash plugin is enabled. Firefox does not freeze when the Flash plugin is disabled. Repeatable, tested and confirmed multiple times - freezes consistently with Flash plugin enabled, loads pages perfectly when Flash plugin is disabled (though without Flash content).
When in this frozen state, Firefox is completely unresponsive - displays a blank page, can't type anything, can't click on or move/minimize the window. Must be force-quit via task manager.
Other browsers (e.g. Chrome) do not have this issue with Flash. Have noticed several similar problems reported with Firefox and Flash, but the only solution I have seen offered is to downgrade Flash (and introduce potential security issues). Surely there must be a better option? This is a massive issue for me - Firefox is my preferred browser but I cannot use it while it has this allergic reaction to the Flash plugin.

Downgrading Flash is not a solution. This problem seems to be intractable. It will be the end of Mozilla if they cannot address this issue (or even acknowledge the problem). Firefox needs to play nice with current versions of Flash.

• Firefox freezes on certain flash apps, can only be solved by ending plugin-container.exe

Since I've updated to flash 11 and Firefox 9.0.1 my browser is freezing contantly. I found out it can only be helped by ending the Plugin-Container.exe process in the task manager. After I end this process my browser works fine again, but all my flash applications crash.

• Flash makes firefox crash

Topic kinda says it all; any websites which contains flash makes firefox crash. I believe the problem started 1-2 days ago. I'm clueless, I don't remember there has been any related updates.
I've tried to move ~/.mozilla somewhere else, and reinstall flashplugin, which not fixed the problem.
Oh yeah.. opera DOES NOT crash with flash.
Thanks in advance.

Delete the files extensions.* (extensions.rdf, extensions.cache, extensions.ini) and compatibility.ini in the Firefox profile folder to reset the extensions registry.
