Flash Masking problems

hi
i am having problems with creating a mask in Flash 8. I have
created the mask and stoke. I want a wavy line to gradually appear.
The animation stutters and once the line has appeared it flashes up
again. Something is wrong. Can you please point me in the right
direction. Perhaps I can send / upload the .fla file for someone to
check.

it all depends on how you have your file structured. This
should be no problem, post your fla for us to look into.
you probably just need a stop() action on the last
frame.

Adobe Flash Player Problem: "Movie Not Loaded"

new user to mac.
i'm getting more and more frustrated with this computer.
what's bugging me the most right now is
i am unable to view videos on certain websites.
rather than showing the content,
a white box appears.
when i right click on the white box,
it says "movie not loaded" (in gray) and adobe flash player 9 (in black).
i can't click on the gray line.
when i click on the black line, it brings me to the adobe website and tells me adobe flash player 9 has been successfully installed.
i am fairly sure this has nothing to do with heavy traffic.
any insights on how to resolve this issue?

Strange flashing cursor problem

Hi,
I've just finished installing Vista 32bit on my Macbook Air (1.6) and its working fine apart from one small problem - when starting up it freezes on a black screen with a flashing cursor for 2-4 mins and then will start loading Vista fine. Once in there is no problem and its stable and what not. I have had a look at some on the articles on here and other forums and the flashing cursor problem usually refers to when people try to first install a MS OS and not once one has been installed successfully.
I only have to boot into Vista every now and then and only for a few minutes at a time so I usually spend as much time in Vista as it does loading.
Any help appreciated.

Unless you did a clean install, and I can't tell what your system maintenance is whether it is what I would do. Backup / clone your system, use ML RECOVERY and erase the system partition and update with just Apple updates, don't restore anything.
Run Apple Hardware Test.
Take it in for a free check and diagnosis.

Flash Mask on Captivate Movie

Hi
I am new to Captivate, but Advance flash user. I have bunch of captivate movie that I am embeding in my flash app with loadMovie action. Now I notice that when I load captivate movie in another swf with a mask on top it then non of the Close Caption text shows up and when I put it up over the Mask then text in close caption shows up fine. I am not sure why but I can't get rid of the mask and need know how can I put the captivate movie under the flash mask.

Problem is:
Flash Player for IE11 (which is the worst browser ever developed - BAR NONE) is a Microsoft product, when it comes right down to it.
Adobe writes the base code and yes, they do collaborate on updates for it, but the gang in Redmond alter the plug-in and add "proprietary" code before embedding it, and at that point it's "their baby".
There are two (2) registry keys - 1 for 32 bit IE and the other for 64 bit IE, as well as a KB patch that prevent all but the most experienced Windows users from ever touching the Flash Player plug-in for IE. So there's NO WAY you could have done a clean install of the ActiveX plug-in in Windows 8. Unless you're an uber-geek, you can only update it through Windows Update.
WIn 8 is an abomination and IE11 made it worse. IE has always been the "problem child" of browsers, failing to handle CSS, Javascript, some PHP and most design "tweaks" that good webmasters can use with other browsers, trouble free.
I have IE8 on XP, 9 on VIsta, 11 on 7, 10 on 8 and 11 on 8.1... but they're all for testing only. I'd have to be out of my mind to ever think of using IE as my primary browser. ActiveX controls have to be disabled formost stuff and that opens millions of security holes in IE.
You've got a good video card and a decent sound card. It's a shame to waste them on a pile of garbage like IE, just because it came with Windows.

When did these flash player problems begin?

So, I had a computer running Win98 and IE6, which worked
great until Flash Player 8 autodownloaded about 4 months ago,
causing the beginning of an extreme headache. Several
communications with Adobe support (they eventually stopped
responding) over several weeks went nowhere None of the fixes
suggested by them, nor the ones here worked. Countless manhours led
me to think it was time to bite the bullet, buy a new computer. So,
as of two months ago I have a new computer running XP and IE6 with
SP2. I didn't know it until today, when I started having crashes,
but I have Flash Player 7.0.19.0. When i go to Adobe's Test page,
both Shockwave and Player windows show the animations (and no
crash).
On certain pages, which I believe have flash content, I get
the "IE has experienced a problem and must close" message. It
specifically mentions the flash.ocx file as the offender. It is
repeatable when visiting certain pages.
So, before I jump into the abyss of attempting to fix this, I
am wondering when these types of problems began. I have been using
Windows and IE since 1998 with no trouble until this year. I hoped
moving to a new computer would solve my Flash compatibility
problems. Could the root problem be new types of spyware, etc that
change something in the registry? Some of the fixes suggested by
Adobe were regarding keys changed in the registry. Unfortunately
those fixes didn't work (in Win98).
Finally, does anyone know if attempting to fix flash player
under XP is any easier than 98? Also, I will admit I may have
visited some sites recently that downloaded some adware, etc. Any
suggestions on cleaning that may solve the flash player problem? I
know this post is all over the map - I don't know where to begin...

Are you saying when you go to Adobe's website and download flash player it gives you an error?

[help] Flash cache problem?

Operating Environment: IIS6+ASP.Net 2.0+Flash
Framework / Procedure:
When running, Flash will run ASP.NET program. ASP.NET then
extracts data from the database and generates a XML file for Flash.
Flash reads the XML file and parse it into a readable format
for the users.
Problem:
When Flash displays the XML content and user leaves/exits the
webpage, this process creates a change in the database.
Then if this Flash function is executed again, ASP.NET
generates a new XML file, but Flash still displays the old XML
content.
We discovered that when IE's "Temorary Internet Files"
setting is set to AUTO, the above problem would occure, we suspect
this is related to IE cache.
Is there any way to resolve this Flash cache problem?

Did you try returning the XML via an ASP script?
In other words have the ASP generate an ASP wrapper that
returns XML.
Then if necessary, you can then add a random URL var to the
Flash XML load url variable. "theXMLWrapper.asx?x=" +
getTimer()

But the whole point is that I am not able to place the mask properly because of the strange way it behaving. The purpose of a mask is that it should affect the area it is located above and not somewhere else, and it should also fill the entire mask and not only a spot at the center of the mask area.
It has nothing to do with the order of things, or if I turn up feathering or extract the edge. It's all about the wired way it applys it self.
If I apply and drag the mask to the corner, it should affect the corner and not somewhere near the center of my footage. As it is right now I have to zoom out to 25% and drag the mask way out of frame to affect the corner of my footage.

Masking problems

Hi.
I have stumbled over a masking-problem, that I hope you can
help me solve. I have made a mask with a movie clip containing
several graphic objects on separate layers. Please see reference
image 1.
I tried to create a "splattering" effect, which I felt I
did... until I played the result.
It seemes that overlapping content in the mask will null out
the overlapping areas in the mask, and reveal content behind the
masked layer. Please see reference image 2.
What I wanted was to reveal the masked layer only, not the
content behind, so that it would look similar to reference image 1.
Please explain what I'm doing wrong and how I can fix this.

Are you talking about the root-timeline? On the root I have
two layers. One with an image, and the other one which is a mask
layer to the first. The mask layer contains a movie clip. This
movie clip is my "splattering"-mask. The idea is that the image on
the first layer of the root-timeline will be gradually revealed by
the effect created in the movie clip lying on the mask layer.

single "splat" motion tweened to create a realistic look.... well,
at least good enough for me. :) - The problem mentioned appears
when two layers in the movie clip are overlapping. This causes the

And what suggestion do you have for solving this in the code?
I assume you're talking about ActionScript? I'm open for anything
as long as the problem gets solved. :D

Flash gradient mask problem

Having a bad day everything i do doesn't work today... I am trying to create a gradient mask but because its not on the main timeline also its in a nested swf, just can't get it working, this is what I was using and tried it with _parent.(instanceName) and _root

mask shouldn't be in quotes.
if removing the quotes doesn't solve your problem what's the following show:

In some cases it helps to update the device drivers for your graphics/video/display adapter. But I think in your case it's something different; unfortunately I have no idea how to fix it.

Dynamic text and animated masking problem?

Can anyone suggest to me what might be happening here. I will
try and explain step by step... I am using flash MX
I have dynamically created a movieclip which I want to mask -
_root.createEmptyMovieClip("myMovie", 1);
I dynamically add a movieclip into it which I then load a jpg
into -
_root.myMovie.createEmptyMovieClip("image1", 0);
_root.myMovie.image1.createEmptyMovieClip("newFile", 0);
_root.myMovie.image1.newFile.loadMovie("http:...");
I dynamically create another movieclip called myNormalText1
insde the first movie -
_root.myMovie.createEmptyMovieClip("myNormalText1", 2);
this holds a dynamically created text box called mytext -
_root.myMovie.myNormalText1.createTextField("mytext",1,0,0,0,10);
// the text box formating is dynamic, uses devise fonts,
arial and is red ect.
I have then attach a movieclip and use it as a mask to create
a transition effect over _root.myMovie (which holds the image and
text)

the mask movieclip is what is causing me the problem!!!
method one
when the mask movieclip contains this -
a phisically drawn box that fills the whole page
I use a shape tween to make the box transform into a thin
rectangle down the left hand side of the screen
I get a transition effect which makes _root.mymovie disapear
to the left which is what I want!
The image and text are masked correctly!
*** Please note I am aware that dynamic text boxes using
devise fonts are not displayed correctly under a mask layor when
they are not embeded, in flash MX. I am able to view my movie in a
browser window which uses flash player 8 that now allows dynamic
devise fonts to be masked!
method two
I then wanted to create a different transition effect like
venitian blinds,
so, in my mask movieclip I created several rectangles that
fill the page
again I used a shape tween so they get thinner,
when I tested my movie the same way in the browser,
the mask did not work correctly over my text in
_root.mymovie???
yet the image in _root.mymovie was masked correctly???
the only differance between the two methods is the shape
tween in method one uses one box shape, and the shape tween in
method two uses several rectangler box shapes.
I was wondering if anyone knows why the text is correctly
masked in case one and is not correctly masked in case 2
I want to do other transition effects using masks in this way
and I am having no luck :-(

Hi
I have been researching this ALOT and found some info that
basically tells me when I use setMask() over dynamic device fonts,
the mask uses its bounding box (the rectangular outside edge of the
whole mask movieclip) as the mask.
In case 1 the mask moviclips bounding box shrinks when the
shape tween plays because there is one rectangular box being
tweened. It appears to mask the text correctly.
In case 2 I have variouse different shape tweens going on
inside the mask movieclip so the bounding box stays the same size
across the whole screen and it wont appear to mask my text
correctly.
I think I have answered my own question, but this still
leaves me stuck! I want to create this venitian blind effect using
masks over devise fonts.
I came up with the idea of using for example 4 different
masks over the one movieclip but again flash doesnt like this and I
guess I can only use one setMask() per movieclip?
Can anyone suggest a way I can use multiple dynamically
created masks on one movieclip or cant it be done?

Flash tool Problems

Technical difficulty questions:
Why is is that the pen tool will sometimes at random suddenly look like a thicker line size when the tool hasn't been tampered with at all? This does not have to do with the effect of Zooming out and noticing how the line tool thickens.
Why is it that when setting up hotkeys that the program not only fails to remember right after editting/ or saving your hotkeys, but also, starts to shuffle the hotkeys to other already used hotkeys (this is something that flash is doing with all the computers in the studio I work in) It usually will take me 4 - 5 tries of resetting all of the hotkeys I've organized just because I wanted to add a new hotkey. Is there something to prevent this, or a reason why this happens?
At random again, there are times when tweening a symbol, it automatically syncs itself, which really screws things up if you are using single frames in the animation. (because as we all know, the syncing option automatically sets the tweened animation to be the same frame instance as the previous keys if it is single framed) How do you solve that problem because unsync options doesn't really help when you literally have to go to each key pose and indivually reset the frame instance to the frame you wanted it at originally before having tweened it.
Just mechanical questions:
I've been trying to deal creating masks for eye symbols my problem is that after creating 50+ different instances of an eye blinks/expressions I want to be able to copy this entire symbol and just rename it, while keeping all the instances of these eye blinks and shapes exactly in the same place as the original eye blink symbol. So copying the frames inside the symbol and just pasting them into a newly made symbol doesn't help because pasting and then turning it into a symbol the usual way creates problems like the size of all these eye blinks become too big/small/ or all too far too the left/right (which ultimately would force me to very carefully try to position the symbol over top of the original eye shape to match it perfectly to accomplish seamless masking. So my question is: Is there a simple way of duplicating a symbol so that it is unparented/doesn't effect the symbol that it was duplicated from.
is there a way to change the default line options (ie: rather than always having at line width 1, join: rounded, cap: rounded)
is there a way to change the 'J' hotkey ( when working it also happens to randomly switch to object drawing which gets very tedious when it's unwanted, weather I accidentally press the 'J' button or not when switching between the brush (B), Line (Y) or straight line (N) tools (and others)) I've checked hot keys trying to change it, but it doesn't seem to be an option available to change it to another hot key.

This seems to only happen to me if I'm assigning a hot key that was already used to something new. This seems to "shift" all the hot keys that followed the original hot key. The solution is that when you get a warning that the hot key was previously used, pick something else. This kind of sucks if you really wanted that hot key, but that's the only thing I have found that works.

For this, I use Swap Instance for Duplicate Symbol. Usually I already have an instance on stage that I want to use this on, but sometimes I'll just drag one on and run the command, since it works so much better than duplicating the symbol in the library. Once I have a duplicate symbol, then I can go inside it and swap any inner instances for duplicate symbols all the way down until I've finished my edits.
