Flash media server 3 on VMWare virtual machine

Do any one know can a FMS 3 run smoothly on a vmware virtual
machine? if yes, is there any requirement need to be aware? thanks
for any adivse.

Rather than VMWare you may want to consider a operating
system-level virtualization. I recommend OpenVZ. This has excellent
native speed performance for the guest OS. I have This system with
the host and guests all CentOS4.5, running variously FMS2, FMS3,
Red5 etc in the guests. Its super easy to start, stop, clone,
distroy the guests. the guests can be firewalled from the host. You
can set guaranteed min and max memory allocations for the guests.
You can run Linux distros as guests that differ from the
host, but you can't run non-linux guests, unlike in VMWare.
Also, the default resource allocations for the newly created
OpenVZ guests are insufficient to run FMS in, so the config file
for the guest needs to be changed.

  • OSX Leopard Server as Parallels/VMWare Virtual Machine in Snow Leopard?

I'm considering buying OSX Server to use as a virtual machine for testing purposes -- so I can run two different OSX versions at the same time on the same computer. Some questions for anyone who's done this:
    1. Is it working flawlessly (Parallels Desktop, VMWare Fusion)
    2. Is it officially supported by Apple or only tolerated currently
    3. If this works technically on a Mac, I'm wondering what Apple is doing to block it from working in VMWare on a PC
    4. Will this be forwards compatible:
      A. will I be able to run my Leopard Server VM on my current (Leopard-era) Mac once I upgrade that to Snow Leopard (this is my main point currently)
      B. will I be able to run my Leopard Server VM on some new Mac I buy 3 years from now that may have something different in its firmware -- it certainly wouldn't support Leopard for a native install (this gets back to the OSX Server VM on PC question; I'm concerned about Apple needing to "support" the VM on my hardware for it to work)
    5. Is Leopard the first OSX Server that can be virtualized (without hacking)
    6. In general is OSX Leopard Server "the same" OS as the normal Leopard version, configured with some admin-friendly features, or distinct enough it wouldn't be fully reliable for testing purposes?
    Thanks!

    1. Is it working flawlessly (Parallels Desktop, VMWare Fusion)
Yes - at least as much as any VM solution does
    2. Is it officially supported by Apple or only tolerated currently
Yes, but only for Mac OS X Server 10.5
    3. If this works technically on a Mac, I'm wondering what Apple is doing to block it from working in VMWare on a PC
There's a slew of technologies at work to ensure that Mac OS X runs on Apple hardware only. That's a whole different discussion. Suffice to say that it doesn't work.
    4. Will this be forwards compatible:
    As much as anything is...
    A. will I be able to run my Leopard Server VM on my current (Leopard-era) Mac once I upgrade that to Snow Leopard (this is my main point currently)
Sure. Of course, this may require an update from the VM vendor to run under Snow Leopard, but you won't know that until closer to Snow Leopard's release.
    B. will I be able to run my Leopard Server VM on some new Mac I buy 3 years from now
Hahahaha. No one is going to guarantee you three years of future compatibility on anything you buy today.
    5. Is Leopard the first OSX Server that can be virtualized (without hacking)
    Yes.
    6. In general is OSX Leopard Server "the same" OS as the normal Leopard version, configured with some admin-friendly features, or distinct enough it wouldn't be fully reliable for testing purposes?
There are some underlying tweaks around things like network management (servers tend to have different networking needs from clients), and several extra processes that aren't in Mac OS X (client), but the underlying code base is the same. As to whether it's 'reliable for testing purposes', that depends on what it is you're testing

    Hi ,
I tried a Exchange 2007 SP3 install (over Windows 2008 R2 too) with the same error code message: "Error code

    It occurs to me:

2-There are two ISA Servers in between but I shut down the feature "Strict RPC compliance."
Beyond that, I really don't know what to do.

  • Flash Media Server 3 and Adobe Connect 6.0 SP2

Hi all, I have a doubt.
It's possible to run Adobe Connect Server 6.0 SP2 and Flash
Media Server 3 in the same machine?
    Thnx.

Adobe Connect server includes its own flash media server. in
    that case;
There can be some conflicts for port/service registration
    etc.

  • Flash Media Server Licensing Question

This may seem like a simple NO, but I'm interested in
building a pre-built image which will contain Linux installation
and Adobe Flash Media Server pre-configured. This setup would be in
a single image file used to run inside of VMware Server as a
Virtual Machine. By building the image, anyone who wants to test
FMS could download the image and load it into the Virtual Machine,
and not have to dedicated a full server to the installation.
If anyone can provide me a factual answer, either yes, no, or
someone to contact at Adobe I would be very appreciative.

No. FMS is not an "out of the box" solution. You'll need some
experience with Flash (client side flash), but how much you'll need
to know depends on the application you plan to build.
Adobe provides a set of communication components and sample
applications, and it's fairly easy to drag and drop your way to a
simple webcam application. It won't be very flexible, and it
certainly won't be secure, but it will get you started.
You'll also need to understand how to install and configure
server software, or hire someone to do that part for you. Just so
it's said, you can't install FMS on a shared hosting account, so
    you'll need your own server.
As far as learning curve goes, I suppose it depends on your
background. If you already have an understanding of actionscript
and client/server communication, then the learning curve isn't
horribly steep. If you don't have a background in Flash (client
side flash), you might want to cover some of those basics before
diving into FMS. Unlike other streaming servers, there is no
default player that just pops open on the client side when a stream
is requested (like Windows Media or Real)... you need to build the
    client application (.swf) yourself.

  • Why Flash Media Server

    Hi All,
As it stands currently, I'm developing online teaching applications that faculty can use in their classes, as well as encoding and uploading videos to our Windows Servers.  For database management, I'm coding server side scripts in PHP, and dumping everything into MySQL.  Then embedding all the content into Moodle (which is hosted by a 3rd party).
I'm looking at a Flash Server Solution for a couple of reasons:
    1) Delivering Streaming video instead of Progressive Download
    2) Allowing instructors to encode and upload their own videos (similar to YouTube) without having to go through my office
    3) Providing extra copyright security - in order to use some copyright videos, we have to ensure that only the students who are enrolled in specific classes can access the data.  As it stands now, a smart student with the right URL can download anything we have up on our Windows servers.
    Some Questions and concerns:
    1) I don't know Cold Fusion.  Will I have to rewrite all my scripts for that?  Can Flash Media Server run PHP?
    2) This is probably a really stupid one, but... Is Flash Server it's own platform, or does it have to run on a Windows or Linux box?
    3) Does it need its own dedicated machine?  Can you run a virtual server with Flash Server?
    4) Which of the different flavors of Flash Server are best?
    5) What kind of hardware specs are we looking at?  We have 20,000 students and maybe a few thousand at any one time would have to access
Sorry about all the dumb questions.  I'm mostly an app developer, but am in the position of having to make this decision, and then defend the decision if I decide to puruse a Flash server solution.
    Thanks for your help.

    Hi riquigley,
Following are quick answers on a few of your questions.  Hopefully other folks will add their thoughts and also answer the questions I have skipped over.
    4) Which of the different flavors of Flash Server are best?
-- FOR STRAIGHT VIDEO STREAMING USE Flash Media Streaming Server.  THE PRICE POINT IS LOWER THAN Flash Media Interactive Server (aka FMIS. FMIS IS ONLY NEEDED FOR INTERACTIVE APPLICATIONS, E.G. MULTIUSER, CHAT, ETC.)
    -- COMPARE EDITIONS PAGE HERE:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/flashmediaserver/compare/
    2) ... does it have to run on a Windows or Linux box?
-- YES.  FMS IS A SERVICE THAT RUNS ON AN OS.  WINDOWS AND RED HAT LINUX ARE SUPPORT. FULL REQUIREMENTS HERE:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/flashmediastreaming/systemreqs/
    3) Does it need its own dedicated machine?  Can you run a virtual server with Flash Server?
    -- DEDICATED MACHINE *NOT* REQUIRED.
-- HOSTED SOLUTIONS ARE AVAILABLE TOO.  HOSTED SOLUTIONS MAY OFFER: A) BETTER QUALITY; B) LOWER TOTAL COST OF OWNERSHIP; C) QUICKER START TO LAUNCH.
-- SEE LIST OF HOSTING PARTNERS, AKA CDNs (Content Delivery Networks) HERE:
    http://www.adobe.com/products/flashmediaserver/fvss/
    1) I don't know Cold Fusion.  Will I have to rewrite all my scripts for that?  Can Flash Media Server run PHP?
-- COLDFUSION NOT REQUIRED.  EITHER PHP OR COLDFUSION CAN BE USED TO MANAGE METADATA (INCLUDING SQL DATABASE INTERACTION).
-- PHP AND COLDFUSION HANDLE ALL HTTP REQUESTS AND RETURN DYNAMICALLY GENERATED PAGES TO THE USERS' BROWSERS.
-- FLASH MEDIA SERVER HANDLES ALL RTMP REQUESTS.  DYNAMICALLY GENERATED PAGES FROM PHP WILL INCLUDE THE RTMP URLs THAT THE FLASH/FLEX SWFs USE IN THE BROWSER TO REQUEST THE RTMP STREAMS FROM THE FLASH MEDIA SERVERS.

  • Windows Vista and Flash Media Server Streaming Problems

My company recently started using Flash Media Server to
    stream audio and video content.
My boss just installed Windows Vista Ultimate and now no
streaming content will play at all. Simple Flash animations work,
but nothing that accesses the Flash Media Server for content. I've
uninstalled and reinstalled multiple versions of the Flash Player
on his machine but nothing seems to work. I also tried the new
"Reset" feature in IE that is supposed to return it to it's
shipping state and that didn't work. I navigated to the "System 32"
folder and ran the Flash Updater EXE. I downloaded and installed
all of the available updates through "Windows Update".
I also tested Flash Objects that stream video on Adobe.com
and they don't play either. Has anyone heard of this happening or
know what I need to do to fix it? I don't know if this is a bug in
the Flash Player or with Windows Vista.

This appears to be the solution:

  • Flash Media Server for iPhone

    Hi,
I am developing an app for iPhone/iPad. The client wants to show some realtime data in the app. Something like a chat application, where even if users don't do anything (flash uses no event), they can see what other users are doing in realtime.
I went through adobe site to see Flash media Server for mobile device. But I am confused on which version of the server should suit the type of app I am developing.

  • Whether Sophos Antivirus can stop taking connection by Flash media server?

    Hi
Our flash media server  stops taking connection sometime. Any one have any idea about sophos antivirus?
Please suggest what should we do.
    Thanks in advance.

    Thanks SE for the reply.
But i got a message "Connection to the Server Failed. Please try to rejoin the call".
We were not getting this problem before installation of anitvirus on our client machine. Now FMS gets down or we can say not accepting connection. Even at that time(server down condition) we can't enter into managment console of FMS. Sometime it start taking connection after one hour or two hour.

  • Flash Media Server 3.5/number of CPU

How many number of CPU cores Flash Media Server 3.5 supports?

    Hi,
You could refer to the EULA located at the FMS install directory/License.htm.
So in short to install FMSS you could use up to 4 CPUs and to install FMIS you are allowed to use upto 8 CPUs.
    The section 2.8.5 states:
2.8.5.         License Limit.  Licensee shall only use the Software corresponding to the licenses for the Software that Licensee has purchased.  Licensee is permitted to install the Streaming Server on a single Computer or Virtual Server containing up to 4 CPUs. Licensee is permitted to install the Interactive Server on a single Computer or Virtual Server containing up to 8 CPUs.  In the event that Virtual Servers are installed on a Computer, each such Virtual Server shall be deemed to operate the Software on 2 CPUs (each, a “Virtual Server CPU”), and the total number of Virtual Server CPUs plus the total number of physical CPUs on such Computer, shall be counted together for the purpose of applying the limitations set forth in this Agreement. For all the Software licensed hereunder, if Licensee exceeds the limitations set forth herein on a single Computer or Virtual Server Licensee must purchase another license to the Software, and such additional license shall permit up to permitted number of additional CPUs (including Virtual Server CPUs) in such Computer or Virtual Server.

I'm considering the flash media server.
Here is my streaming server "wishlist":
-variable playback speeds(fastforward, skip, rewind, restart,

-option of downloading entire video to local machine
-support for multiple file types or conversion/encoding
    multiple file times
-security options to lock down source files
-a flexible platform to build custom players
-hook up to a database(mysql, mssql)
I looked through the flash media server specs on the Adobe

    Hi everybody
Ich have already Flash Media server with a Application wich record audio from the clients. My HD ist full and i cant add one more, so i want to map a virtual directory to a network addrress from  one NAS like the RS-411 from synology. I have not yet the NAS i will buy it and i want to know if this a good idea ist or if i must buy a biggest HD.
    Thank you for your comments

Ok I managed to find the solution,
My FMS was not setup to use SSL.
Once I followed the directions detailed in the documentation
on how to secure FMS and I setup the SSL certificate in the
server.xml and adaptor.xml file then it all worked great.
The documentation is located in the flash media server
    documentation directory
and the ssl stuff is in the

    if use the default setting
you may create a folder under the
    { $ media server root }/applications/....
    for example:
    the folder named "test",
    maybe like this:
    "C:\Program Files\Macromedia\Flash Media Server
    2\applications\test\"
    then
    in the FLA:
    you may connect like this
    myConn = new NetConnection();
    myConn.connect("rtmp:/test");
    or
    myConn = new NetConnection();
    myConn.connect("rtmp://localhost/test");
