Flash Media Server - Not playing sample flv

Finally managed to get FMS3 installed on fedora 9 with all
services running. Can connect to admin console and see new
connection from local host when running sample VOD client. However
video stays at loading on the test page. Thought i had cracked it
but fell at last hurdle. Any suggestions much appreciated.

Adobe Flash Player will not play my .flv video

I redered a 5 min editing from Premier CS4 as steaming FLV, but if I try to play it in Adobe Flash Player, the player will open with white background and not play the movie. The file is playing though in other players like Adobe Media Player. Is there something special about a movie flv to play in AFP?

FLV needs to be inside of a SWF container that manages it's playback. The Media Player provides that for you, but the standalone Flash Player doesn't. So you can make one in Flash easily with components, or you can just download any one of the many free ones (for example, I've personally used Jeroen Wing's "JV Player" from longtail)

Flash media playback not playing local files?

I want to use flash media playback http://www.adobe.com/products/flashmediaplayback/ to play some local FLV files on our intranet but it doesnt seem to work with local files
I can play this http://www.osmf.org/configurator/fmp/ but when i replace the source with something like test.flv then it doesnt play
Is this the case or I've done something wrong?
We cant download anything so I need a flv player that comes with Adobe

Ping Flash Media Server not working

I just installed trial FMS on my XP Pc and I also installed
IIS. I can login FMS control fine and see the applications ( this
website sample code) that are inside applications folder.
Unfortunately, the applications were not working, although the
server seemed fine. I study Macromedia Press book, I found it was
supposed to respond to a ping in the control panel. Yet, it always
show "failure to ping server Server1." I am new to FMS. Right now I
just want to get the sample code work . Any help will be highly
appreciated.

Media Manager not playing sample video

I have tried everything in the existing threads to get this working, added a pin, ran the update, uninstall and reinstall. I can play music and see pictures, but the "new" video feature does not work. I suspect a lot of people are having this issue and was wondering if there was a fix or patch in progess.

I'm having the same problem. Some of the videos do work on my TV, the sample video for one. But a bunch of them just say session timed out when I try to click on them.

Audio not streaming correctly from Flash Media Server

Our company has a Flex application (3.0.2) that is having a problem with audio dropping out in Windows 7. The problem appears worse with a wireless connection, but it can’t be consistently reproduced there, either. The only thing known for sure is that the problem has not been seen on any other version of Windows.
The application thinks the audio is playing, because it is calling the appropriate event listeners triggered when the audio completes and when any audio cue points are hit. The majority of our audio is streaming via Flash Media Server (3,0,2,201), but the problem was also seen using embedded sound effects. In one instance, several clicks of a button triggered an error saying the sound effect could not be loaded, and then about a minute later, all the sound effects played at once and the user could then continue with the application.
The problem has been repeated in IE 8, Firefox 3 and Chrome.

Wireless connection - Was the client placed in poor bandwidth.
Can you get the NetStream status info when u play the audio file.? We can check for the rebuffering happening at the client side.
Can you run your audio file through flvCheck Tool to check if the media file is in good form. It is available at "\$Root|Flash Media Server\tools\flvcheck.exe"
Now our intention should be to check the same media file with simpler application (since your production app is complicated) to ensure that the media streaming over 'client to server' is working fine.

FMS4 -Set the Flash Media Server services to Run as Administrator (FMSCore not running)

Installed fms4 x64 on windows server 2008 to try it out. When i open up task manager to check processes running, FMSCore process does not runhttp://kb2.adobe.com/cps/862/cpsid_86205.htmlI found this in the knowledge base but step3 "Run this program As Administrator" checkbox is greyed out so i cannot do anything. I have stopped and restarted service so many time, rebooted server at least twice.
Even the video that's supposed to play when you click the start screen is not playingSet the Flash Media Server services to Run as Administrator
Complete the following steps for each of the following files located in the Flash Media Server root installation folder (C:/Program Files/Adobe/Flash Media Server, by default):
FMSAdmin.exe
FMSCore.exe
FMSMaster.exe
FMSEdge.exe
Right-click the file and chooseProperties.
Select the Compatibility tab and click Change Settings For All Users.
Select Run This Program As Administrator. Click Apply, and then click OK.
Complete these steps for each Flash Media Server service.
Restart the computer.
Flash Media Server starts when the computer starts.

How did you make sure that the services are restarted ? Probably they have not yet started at all ? You need to have admin privileges to start/stop the FMS services. Please make sure you have the admin rights for the logged in user.
Open a command prompt as admin, and run the following commands :
net start fms
net start fmsadmin.

Encoding to H.264 FLV: Flash Media Server Streaming

Hi all,
I've been hoping to find the magic Compressor settings which would allow me to compress a stream-able FLV on our Flash Media Server.
I realize I can use the default QuickTime Export component to create an FLV, however this does not support distributive rendering/job segmenting. Currently I'm trying the 'QuickTime Movie' file format (last on the format list) without any luck.
As QuickTime can produce a streamable FLV with the export component I'm figuring there HAS to be a way to manually configure Conpressor to do the same: Has anyone worked this out?

Related to my post above is it be possible to access and use the TrueMotion VP6 (Perian) format settings in Compressor? This format is also accessible through the QuickTime Export component option, and doing so would would both make the flash streams more compatible (w/ old players) and allow job segmenting.

Playing mp3 over RTMP (Flash Media Server)

I've got some mp3 files that are served from a Flash Media Server. I want to write a Flex application to play them. Do I need to use NetConnection/NetStream or can I do it with just the Sound class? I've got a sample app that can connect to the stream with NetConnection/NetStream but I don't know how to connect the netstream data to something that will actually play the sound.
Will I be able to read the id3 data of the files with this?

Can you tell me how are you concluding that you are skipping few seconds when you set higher bufferTime - is it on visual inspection or say based on status messages.

Streaming flash media server to the world and not just your local network

hello, i have downloaded and installed flashe media server.....but i have som problems which are: i am on a network which is connected to the internet and i was able to get the ip of my pc using the comand prompt (i.e typing ...ipconfig/all....in the comand prompt window) ...i used this ip in my flash media encoder in place of "localhost" in the fms url, and i was able 2 connect fine ,i the copied my fms url to the osmf player and i generated my html code and put it in my webpage and everything did work fine, but the proble is that only the people who are on thesame network with me were able to view the video on the webpage wereas people in other countries could not view the video....... so please how can i be able to make my video acessable to the whole world ,because i work in a television company and they have asked me to undertake the task to stream thier broadcast online to the whole world........please i would like u to put me through the right things to do because have been having sleepless night on flash media server.....would be expecting a reply from anyone who can help me as quick as possible. thanks

Is the server that you have created behind some NAT, etc?
If you are using an IP of the form 10.x.x.x or 172.x.x.x or 192.168.x.x then these are private IPv4 address spaces and not public IPs(which is unique), and you wont be able access them from outside.

FMLE not connecting to Flash Media Server

I have two laptops with windows 7 and FMLE 3.2 and FMS 4.5 in them. Laptop A is working perfectly with the default settings but i cannot connect to FMS with laptop B. I have tried turning windows firewall off, setting fmscore, fmscore and fmsmaster to run under administrator privileges.
The FMS starts correctly on laptop B (i compared the log-files on laptop a and b) and here is edge.00.log from laptop B (i censored my ip and host):

When i hit Connect button in FMLE i get the "Cannot connect to primary server" - error. When i change the FMS-Url to the ip-address of my laptop A i can connect to its FMS. The default FMS Url is rtmp://localhost/live and Stream: "mystream@38220" (this is working in laptop A).
I downloaded TCPView and compared whats happening with the laptops when i hit the Connect button. On laptop B FMLE sends bytes to FMSEdge and it responds with 1 byte and then nothing happens. On laptop A same thing happens but it opens up FMSCore and the stream starts going live.
Apparently the FMS had worked on laptop B before but then it stopped working due to reasons unknown. I tried reinstalling it with no results and now im clueless. I also tried the fmscheck and it said it cannot connect to FMS. It seems the FMSEdge is not behaving correctly or something is blocking the traffic between the programs. Please help.

I tried connecting to localhost:1935 with telnet and typing something and then watching what happens in TCPView. It says that the fmsedge process listening to port 1935 establishes the connection and receives the bytes, though it closes it after few seconds probably because it doesnt understand what data i sent. And when FMLE sends 1537 bytes to fmsedge it receives them but nothing happens.

Beginners guide to integrating Flash Media Server 2?

I'm a newbit to Flasha dn flash media server and need some
help with integrating the two products. We've just purchased Flash
Media Server 2 to stream user created videos to a website. Idealy
we would like to use the FlvPlayBack component placed on the stage
to display the FLV file from the media server, but cannont get the
component to access the FLV file.
Media Server Configuration:
On the Media Server we created an application (testapp) with
an default instance (_definst_). The directory path for the
Appliation looks like this W:\MediaApps\testapp\streams\_definst_\
The name of the server is MediaServer
The application and instance are appearing in the Media
Server Admin manager.
I've placed an FLV file (Movie.flv) In the _devinst_
directory.
Flash FLA file
Placed FLVPlayback component on the stage
Set contentpath= rtmp:\\MediaServer\testapp\_definst_\Movie
Set islive=true
When I test publish the file, the video does not display?
Does anyone have any guidance on what I need to do? There
seems to be a lack of documentation on integrating the media
server. I looked a sample app called "SimplePB" that works, but
does not use the FLVPlayback component.
Any help would be appreciated.

For an FLV to stream from FMS, it must be placed in the
streams/_definst_ directory...
applications/myApplication/streams/_definst_/myFlv.flv
Then you would type in the rtmp connection information in the
contentPath of the FLVPlayback component like this
rtmp://myRTMPConnectionInfo/myApplication/myFlv
without the flv extension.
The documentation comes from the FMS components when you
install them.
Here it is...
To set up your FCS for streaming FLV files:
Create a folder in your FCS application folder, and give it a
name such as my_application.
Copy the main.asc file into the my_application folder.
Create a folder named streams in the my_application folder.
Create a folder named _definst_ inside the streams folder.
Place your FLV files in the _definst_ folder.
To access your FLV files on the Flash Communication Server,
use a URL such as rtmp://my_servername/my_application/stream.flv.
For more information on administering the Flash Communication
Server, including how to set up a live stream, see the FCS
documentation at
www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashcom/. When playing
a live stream with FCS, you need to set the FLVPlayback property
isLive to true. For more information, see FLVPlayback.isLive.

Asynchronous NetStream / Flash Media Server

this is my first experience with audio streaming and I am also fairly new to FMS. I am very grateful for any help
In my application two or more people can talk to each other (for example like in Skype). I use NetStream objects for it, that means for x users = x netStream objects for each user (1 for publishing the own stream to Flash Media Server, x - 1 for playing the other users' streams from Flash Media Server).
SOMETIMES they suddenly become asynchronous. That means: suddenly it takes some time (for example: 5 seconds) until a stream reaches a user (like in a bad mobile phone connection), so that they have to "wait" for each other.
What are the reasons for that? I am sure it has something to do with the bandwidth? And: what can I do about it?
