Flash Movie Creating
I have an Imac G3 grape that does not have internet and has at least 128mb of RAM. I am hoping that there is a program to make flash movies with my computer, help would be helpful.
The program that makes Flash movies is called, strangely enough, Flash. It used to be made by Macromedia, but was recently purchased by Adobe. There's a free, 30 day trial period available, but you need to get someone to download it for you (since you don't have internet) and you also need to check the system requirements against what you have in the grape iMac.
For the trial version that is currently available for download you would need:
600 MHz PowerPC G3 and later (which leaves a grape iMac out of the picture)
Mac OS X 10.3, 10.4
256 MB RAM (1 GB recommended to run more than one Studio 8 product simultaneously)
1024 x 768, thousands of colors display (millions of colors recommended)
360 MB available disk space

Hello,
I imported a Flash movie (created in 8, saved in 6 to work
with Captivate). It's a graphic of an engine with a list of engine
parts on the left. The student needs to drag the engine part name
to the engine part in the graphic. My question is: Does Captivate
allow for an imported Flash to be interactive?
The inverse of that question would be this question: If I
exported the entire Captivate project to Flash (it's about 5
slides), what is the latest edition of Flash that will work with
Captivate? I tried exporting the project to Flash 8 and got a
warning that the latest Macromedia version that works is 2004, but
I have since upgraded to Macromedia Studio.
I'm just looking for whatever scenario will allow my cool
Flash drag n' drop to be a part of this Captivate-created practice
test.
Thanks!Hi naimahav
Take a look at the following link and you be the judge as to
whether drag-n-drop can be used in a Captivate movie...

Flash movies "paused at start"
I'm a total newbie to flash, so go easy...:)
I've a flash movie created from a wmv I have, which I want to
play on a website. I've worked out by dragging the flv into Flash
it gives me the options to create the skins for the player etc,
which is all fine. I can even publish it and get it to work -
http://swanningabout.co.uk/flashMovie/movie.html
However, in my "publish settings" options I've ticked "paused
at start". However, as you can see in the above link the movie
plays right away. Looking at the source, the "play" parameter is
flash so I can't see what the problem would be?
Am I missing something?
Many thanks in advance,
Ed LudlowHi Ed
That function is not used for other things then the basic
timeline control.
Therefore what you need is following:
Select your FLVPlayback component and move over to the
properties panel, and set the AutoStart parameter to false.
That's it.

Creating Hyperlink for Flash Movie
Hi Guys
I have just created a flash movie. I have inserted the flash
into dreamweaver and when somebody clicks on the movie I want it to
take them to a certain page. If possible could I send you the .fla
file and you can send it back with it all linked up as I have been
getting annoyed with this all morning.
Thanks
J - 17 from BritsForensicBop,
> I have just created a flash movie.
Okay.
> I have inserted the flash into dreamweaver and when

Easy enough, once you know how to proceed. :)

It's possible, sure -- but that goes agains the grain (and
benefit) of
why these forums are here. A dozen other people may have a
question similar
to yours, and by participating in a public conversation about
it -- and also
working it through publicly -- you not only learn a knew
skill, but
onlookers can learn it as well.
If you want the whole Flash movie to respond to a click, you
can either
create a so-called invisible button that matches the
dimensions of the whole
movie, then set that above all other layers, or you can code
your movie to
respond to mouse clicks globally.
The invisible button approach usually seems easier to
newcomers, but
neither techniques is especially difficult. What version of
the Flash
Player are you publishing to? (Most importantly, what version
of
ActionScript?)

With large .fla files I often can't get Flash to output .swf files. Usually I get the message "Error creating Flash movie. There was not enough memory available." Sometimes though Flash looks as if it has finished publishing (although slightly too quickly to have really done it), and then there has not been a .swf file created.
Sometimes it's simply a matter of restarting Flash and trying again a few times until Flash decides to cooperate. But now I have a file that just seems like it will never output. My computer has 3 GB of RAM and 100 GB of virtual memory. The .fla file is 152 MG and the .swf would probably be about 20-25 MB.
If there is a workaround in CS3, that would be great. If not, I would upgrade to CS5, if I knew that it would not have the same problem.
I was told by at least two people at Adobe support that the problem has gone away with CS5, but I downloaded the CS5 trial version, and it will not output a .swf of my project. In this case it doesn't give the error message, but just fails silently.Has this memory limitation been fixed in CS4 or CS5? I have to say, I'm geting really fed up with having to
spend hours coaxing Flash to output .swfs. Is there a reason that it can't use the
3MB of Ram available to it? -
Creating FLASH movies without Macromedia??
What would be the easiest way to create FLASH movie files? Every time I try to do it with Macromedia I end up juggling three apps (after spending an hour or two in the manual) and having to interface with the net before I can see my results.
Is there some app out there that will let me output directly from Final Cut, or that will allow me to just export to a Flash from a Quicktime master?
All ears,
BenAie yie yie,
Thank you guys. I remember I did make an flv file using FCP and Quicktime Conversion - And again with the Flash 8 Video encoder. I think my first dilemma (not being able to just see it immediately) has been solved by using Perian (I'm about to try it out). The second problem is the whole embed thing with the web. I've read through the Macromedia instructions a number of times ... always get lost in their assumptions that I know what their lexicon means. I've put hundreds of Quicktimes up, Windows Media Player, all kinds of formats, no difficulty ... I only put up one Flash file six months ago, with the help of a web designer, and was foolish enough to think I would remember the moves months later. Not.
Thank you for your help,

Creating a DVD from flash movies (flv)
Does iDVD 6 support flash movies (flv) importing?
-pom-Does iDVD 6 support flash movies (flv) importing?
No. You could probably convert the files to DV video (which is supported) using VisualHub at http://www.techspansion.com/visualhub/
You can try it for free.
Keep in mind that the DV files will be MUCH larger. DV runs about 12 to 13 GB per hour of content. -
How do i make an image pause in a flash movie clip
Please can someone help me. I am trying to find out how to pause or stop an image in a basic flash movie clip, after it has entered from one side and before it exits the other side.
I have been trying to work it out myself for three days but no joy. I am practicing for a test with a training agency which gave me a disk to use but nowhere in it does it say how this is done. I am also having a lot of difficulty making stop start buttons work with this movie clip. I am using a trial cs5.5 version of Flash which expires in 7 days so i need to know this soon. I am up to speed on most of the features, its just this one thing that has me stumped. A lot of the tutorials or examples i have found on the net are very long winded and hard to follow exactly. Could someone let me know, step by step the sequence i should follow after i have created an object and made it go from one side of the stage to the other.Hi
Thank you for getting back to me. Yes i am using a timeline tween. I have an image on my stage which moves in from one side and out the other side. I am trying to stop or pause the image. The effect i will be asked to reproduce in my exam will be something very much like the banner on the website http://www,iactweb.com. If you go to this website you will see images arrive on the banner and pause before exiting the other side. I am fairly up to speed on all the aspects of getting this effect but i have forgotten what i learned during the course on how stop or pause the images. I am using the trial cs5.5 version of flash . Thanks again for getting back to me. -
How can HTML call a Flash movie?
Greetings Everyone!
I'm sincerely hoping that someone has the answer for me. I'm
a newbie, but trying so very hard to understand... :) I've read
books, pages & pages of this forum, 'net searches - I haven't
found a complete answer to my challenge so far - thanks in advance
for any help you can give...
Here's where things are:
1) I've created a series of swf Flash movies that loop (at a
particular size so they can play inside of an html table cell)
2) I've created html buttons in another cell
What I'm trying to do:
1) Like a swap file in HTML (where you click a button and an
image changes elsewhere on the page, click another button, and that
image swaps to a different image file)
I want to have a flash movie play on a click of a button, click
another button, and a different flash movie plays in the same
spot.
The challenge is the interaction between Dreamweaver and
Flash and getting HTML to talk to Flash.
Here's the code direction I've been heading ...
...IN MY HTML code...
I have a onMouseClick event for each button link. In this
code I set some variable names inside it.
onMouseClick="setFlashVariables('sendmovie','myMovie=activeMovie1')"
---- this would be for button 1.
onMouseClick=
"setFlashVariables('sendmovie','myMovie=activeMovie2')" ---- this
would be for button 2
onMouseClick
="setFlashVariables('sendmovie','myMovie=activeMovie3')" ---- this
would be for button 3
Basically, I'm setting a 'myMovie' variable to 'activeMovie1'
or 'activeMovie2' or 'activeMovie3' when one of the buttons is
clicked.
If 'myMovie' variable is equal to 'activeMovie1' by clicking
a link, this will tell a flash movie: (" Hey flash! Variable
'myMovie' is equal to 'activeMovie1'. Act accordingly."). When the
2nd button is clicked, 'myMovie' will be equal to 'activeMovie2'
and so on.
I need to declare the 'myMovie' variable in my flash movie -
how do I do that?
...IN FLASH...
1. I need to create one variable which will act as a variable
receiver from HTML. (What I called "myMovie")
2. I gather I need to create an IF statement so that
"myMovie" is set to which "activeMovie" ( it could be
activeMovie1/activeMovie2/activeMovie3 etc ) ,
----->Question:
Where should the IF statement be and
How should it be written?
Admittedly I don't know Action Script 3 very well.
if myMovie is equal to "activeMovie1"
then load a movie. (This movie will be a movie related to my
1 Button.)
else if myMovie is equal to "activeMovie2"
then load a movie. ((This movie will be a movie related to
your 2 Button.)
else if myMovie is equal to "activeMovie3"
then load a movie. ((This movie will be a movie related to
your 3 Button.)
Here's where I'm stuck....
1) If I've already made my movies into swf files where does
an IF statement go?
2) I'm missing the mechanics of how to connect the dots here
- how do I get button 1 to load movie 1 and start playing
automatically? When I click button 2, movie 1 is replaced by movie
2 and starts playing automatically.
It's a detailed explanation (I know) - I'm hoping someone has
an answer for me that's equally explicit. Thanks so much much for
taking the time to read it!!Anybody?

How do I display a live webpage (live data feed) as part of my looping flash movie.
G'Day All, I've been tasked with creating a flash movie for a client (3 scenes, some text and images) simple enough, the challenge is one of the scenes needs to display a live page from a locally hosted website (it's a graphic display of a live data feed from a solar panel array on the roof). What I need to know is how do I set up the flash file to display the live page as one of the scenes of my looping movie? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers, Ben.
Why they've removed it ?

How Can I Get A Flash Movie to Access Local Files
I have a customer that has created a Flash movie to run off a CD. The movie is basically a set of menus with links to access local files in the same directory as the movie. i.e. Main folder (to be root of CD) has the movie, a Documents folder with PDFs, a Movie folder with wmv and mov files, etc.
The problem arrises when you click on a link to a file, a web browser is launched, and the browser tries to display the target file. The movie was designed on a Windows system, and, mostly it works in a Windows environment, however, the links totally crap out on a Mac because the URLs are pc centric.
He is a rookie flash programmer so I am trying to help him set up proper links to the files, so that the files will (hopefully) launch the proper local app and not a web browers. i.e. if the link points to a PDF, the Adobe Reader is launched; if the link is to a mov file, then QuickTime is launched....
Is there a way to do this? All the tutorials I have found all seem to expect the flash movie to be running on a web server, and as such do not work when running the movie off a CD.
Any help or suggestions would be grealy appreciated.
A response ASAP would also be greatly appreciated as the customer needs to deliver 200 CDs of the project for a presentation tomorrow morning - I have to create the CDs...
TIAHi there,
Maybe you would want to use swfObject, i've been using it for

Slow Flash movies in Safari and Firefox
This issue started right after the software update of Safari 3.2.1 (from 3.2). I'm totally lost, because it does not make any sense to me. The performance on Flash websites with either Safari or Firefox, is extremely slow and stuttering. Fade-ins and outs are no longer smooth, I can even HEAR their "calculating".
What confuses me most is the fact that watching my self-created Flash movies as swf files is perfectly fast and smooth. As soon as they are being viewed in a browser, local on the computer or on a web server, they are slow.
Here's what I already did, and it got somewhat better, but not back to how it was before the software update:
- reset safari, empty cache.
- uninstalled and reinstalled the latest Adobe Flash Player plug in.
- repair disk permissions
- add DNS codes
- I even upgraded the RAM's to the PB's max of 2GB
Anybody got any ideas? I was thinking it might be the video card. But why would the Flash movie show smooth as an swf file but not in a browser?? And why was everything OK before the update?
I read that the video card is part of the logic board. Is it possible to exchange that at all?? This is what's installed: ATI Mobility Radeon 9700, VRAM 64 MB.
Thanks in advance for any inputs!!I figured out the problem/cure. I had help, though not from this website... However, I thought I'm going to post the solution here, in case someone else is experiencing the same problem! It turned out that it was not the update to the latest Safari (3.2.1), but the latest Adobe Flash player version (10) that caused the bug. Apparently older Mac's (I'm using the 1.5 GHz PowerBook G4 aluminum) cannot handle the latest technology of Flash player 10.
I uninstalled the plugins, using Adobe's Flash player uninstaller, downloaded the Flash player 9 folder here: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14266&sliceId=2 and installed version 9.0.151.0. Repair disk permissions. That's it. Everything is back to normal!!
If this was helpful to anybody, I'll be happy to hear from you! -
Is there a better way to position a flash movie than ap div?
I'm creating a new website(not yet active) and have a great flash movie for the home page. I've place it in an ap div and of course it moves to a different position in different browsers. Is there any way I can get it to display correctly, or is there a better way to position the movie? Thanks.

Shahid HussainHi users,
Thanks for reply.
Actually the problem is -
For portrait dimensions are -
width 20
height 30
for landscape , obviously it will be
width - 30
height - 20
Thus , for second page - table width is 20 while page width is 30 and so 10 cm space remains blank on right side of page
user says that right side should not be blank, rather you extend table width to whole page width.
thats where the problem is
