Flash movie has border on rollover and 'disabled'

Hi,
I have a html page with a flash movie in it.
When the page loads, the movie displays, but when moused over
a dotted border (others note an orange border) appears around the
movie. As a result the user has to click on the movie to remove the
border, before any of the buttons within the movie work. This isn't
just present on my page, but all flash movies I find on the
internet.
Is this something to do with Windows XP ? I have only noticed
it since using XP ?
Is there anything I can do to eliminate it ?
Thanks in advance.

Here's my standard copy/paste response;
uh oh - here we go again - duck and cover!!!!!
If i had a nickel everytime this was asked in the past few
months i would have....let's see - go here:
http://groups.google.com/advanced_group_search?q=group:*flash*&hl=en&lr=&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8
(the google archive of the forum)
and search for "active content".
A total of 362 (and rising everyday) returns.
Multiply that by $.5
I think I would end up with $181. (is my math correct?)
Anyway you get the point. Search the forums first - it was
just asked and answered at least twice
just yesterday. It unfortunately will be asked again today a
couple more times, and then tomorrow
and the next day and....
Most of us are simply too tired to even respond to this
anymore but we understand that searching for
the right terminology is often hard to discern.
But here's the url that has been posted here a couple hundred
times already - guess it can't hurt to
paste it again :)
http://activecontent.blogspot.com
If you search google for "active content" you will realize
just how popular this little bit of tech
news was/has been over the last 6 months - been all over
blogs and news sites for a while.
There are methods to combat this on this site (yes,
adobe.com) and all you have to do is search
adobe to find:
http://www.adobe.com/devnet/activecontent/
An entire section devoted to this issue.
When you hover over any active content in IE you will see
this:
http://www.mudbubble.com/staging/ac.jpg
See the little tool tip instructing you what to do? If you
google that ("Click to activate and use
this control" or similar), you will find 2,050,000 returns
(wow)

  • Flash Movie has problems in IE and Safari

    Hi, my website's home page works like a charm in FireFox and
    uses flashplayer to play, yet, in Internet Explorer and Safari, it
    uses Shockwave to play everything. And at that, Shockwave doesn't
    play it!
    Will someone please check in one of these two browsers on
    their computer to check whether it works for them?

  • Adobe Flash CS5 has encountered a problem and needs to close

    Hi,
    I have two laptops. I have installed Adobe Flash CS5 in my first laptop (Windows XP). When I start the application, it shows the following message:
    "Adobe Flash CS5 has encountered a problem and needs to close"
    I have installed the Flash CS5 in my second laptop and it worked fine.
    Error signature:
    AppName: flash.exe AppVer: 11.0.0.485 ModName: updaternotifications.dll
    ModVer: 1.0.0.64 Offset: 0006a8dc
    Can anybody help?
    Thanks.

    try this also
    1. Reset preferences:
    To reset on Windows, delete:
    C:\Documents and Settings\username\Local Settings\Application Data Adobe\Flash CS4\
    C:\Windows\system32\Macromed\Flash\FlashAuthor.cfg
    To reset on Mac OS X, delete:
    /Users/username/Library/Preferences/Flash CS4 Preferences
    /Users/username/Library/Preferences/Flash 10 MRU
    /Users/username/Library/Preferences/com.adobe.flsh-10.0.plist
    /User/%username%/Library/Application Support/Adobe/Flash CS4/
    /Library/Application Support/Macromedia/FlashAuthor.cfg
    2. Install the latest Flash update if available.
    3. Install the latest version of Flash.
    4. Install current Windows service packs and other updates.
    5.  Run Flash in a simplified mode (Windows). / Run Flash in safe mode (MAC  OS - Refer to http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/404/kb404936.html)
    Some  applications or services may cause system errors or freezes when  running concurrently with Flash. Services are specialized programs that  perform functions to support other programs. Before starting Flash,  disable other applications, including startup items (items that start  automatically), and services.
    To disable startup items and services, see "Disable startup items and services (Windows XP)" (TechNote kb404984).
    To re-enable startup items and services:
       1. Choose Start > Run, type msconfig, and click OK.
       2. Choose Normal Startup on the General tab, click OK, and restart the computer.
    Note: If unselected items were present on the Services or Startup tab, then you will need to unselect them again
    6. Install Flash from the desktop.
    7. Reinstall Flash in a simplified/safe (for MAC OS) mode.
    8. Run Flash in a new user account.
    9. Check for font problems.
    10. Optimize handling of temporary files by Windows XP.
    11. Set the virtual memory paging file to the default size.
    12. Repair and defragment hard disks.
    13. Scan the system for viruses.
    14. Identify the file that causes the problem.
    15. Install Adobe Flash CS4 on a different computer.

  • Flash CS5 has a serious speed and crash issue.

    Hi,
    Works PC.
    Dell dual core 3.5Gb ram PC. 1 yr old
    Launch time CS5 1 minute.
    Opening a file is 1min 10sec, saving a file ditto, copying from lib takes 50 secs, pasting to another library 1min, replace existing item, go yes and it crashes.
    Install CS5 trial on home very powerful purpose built CAD and video workstation, expect it to fly, but get same times, at least it doesnt crash first attempt but still terribly slow at everything.
    Second time I try this routine it also crashes upon replace existing item.
    Try saving files as CS4, they open into CS4 in seconds, wow what a difference !!!!, CS5 obviously at fault as a program, but text on buttons is a mess. so thats no good. Thats text created in CS5 not displaying when saved as CS4. Is this program in fact any good ?
    File size of source file is 26Mb, of destination is 21Mb. Source has about 14 movie clips, select these and make a movieclip of them, copy/paste it to library of destination and it crashes.
    Works PC reinstall Flash twice trying to resolve this, assuming its the prog, still its got these speeds and it crashes when accepting movieClip into Library. Remove the busy layer and try again and it accepts it, still damn slow. The home PC survived the busy layer paste first time round, suggesting the Office PC is at fault. But now its also crashing.
    Has Flash CS5 a complexity limit ? These are map layers with many vector shapes on one of the layers, quite a few on three others. That layer seems to be the straw that breaks the camels back. Is 26Mb beyond the limit. I even upped the preferences for memory to 3000kb but no better.
    I see on the forums complaints of CS5 speed on saving, users reverting to CS4.  I wanted CS4 but was forced to have CS5 as it had just come out. New progs are not the best move but Adobe bully you.
    The speed and crashes are prohibitive for business work, 3 days trying to do a mornings work.
    I thought it was the PC but others are finding CS5 slow and crashing. What have we here as a prog...useless !  Adobe. you need to fix this. I would go back to CS4, I have it on home PC, but CS5 into 4 has text issues, unless the Office PC used a font not on the home one.
    Envirographics

    I still cant realize how this buggy piece of **** could make to the market! After I switched to Flash CS5 it became true headache working on Flash projects:
    - in constantly crashes on saving, working with library, exiting;
    - trying to create file with FLVPlayback throws dozens of errors with references to the classes that even do not exist in configuration folder nor in preinstalled SWC files that I HAD to reference manually;
    - publishing in CS4 files that are published properly in CS5 throws tons of errors even though both reference existing classes and are for the same FP10 version.
    - saving FLA for CS4 creates huge source file and compiling this file in CS4 creates SWF with 10x size (~280kb in CS5 and ~2800kb in CS4).
    Even though Flash CS5 has some nice improvements in interface and ActionScrip editor which I do like, in general it is a complete DISASTER and huge TIME WASTER!

  • Aligning Flash movie in center of browser and flush to top

    I'm having trouble positioning my Flash movie where I want it in the browser window. I want it:
    * To be centered horizontally (easy enough), but also:
    * Flush to the top of the browser window, with 0 px between the movie and the top of the browser window
    I've been trying various combinations of single-cell tables, divs and CSS absolute & relative positioning, and can't find the right combination to achieve this positioning. The closest I can get is centered horizontally, and about a 5 px gap between the top of the browser window and the top of the movie -- it needs to be flush.
    My movie is 1000 px wide and 680 high. This is a simple diagram of what I'm trying to achieve:
    I'm not a coder by any means, so specific code examples would be helpful!
    Thanks,

    For your body tag in the html file try including these four parameters, they should reduce you to having no margin separating you from the very top of the page...
    <body topmargin="0" leftmargin="0" marginheight="0" marginwidth="0">
    If you have a CSS file for the page you could include it in there instead in the form...
    body {
    margin-left: 0px;
    margin-top: 0px;
    margin-right: 0px;
    margin-bottom: 0px;

  • Flash Movie - Has something changed somewhere?

    G'day All,
    I have a flash .swf which I set to auto play on http://www.bondichill.com
    It has worked fine for weeks, but today, both in iWEB on my Mac & on the published site it does not. On iWEB it showed firstly as a "drag graphics here' place marker, then as a Movie clip graphic with a ? & shows the "Q/?' sign on the publish page.
    I havent changed anything or any of my cut & past code (to make it autoplay & not loop) since August:
    function writeMovie1()
    document.write('<object id="id3" classid="clsid:02BF25D5-8C17-4B23-BC80-D3488ABDDC6B" codebase="http://www.apple.com/qtactivex/qtplugin.cab" width="560" height="496" style="height: 480px; left: 70px; position: absolute; top: 18px; width: 560px; z-index: 1; "><param name="src" value="HOMEfiles/_bondi_homeflash140806.swf" /><param name="controller" value="false" /><param name="autoplay" value="true" /><param name="scale" value="tofit" /><param name="volume" value="100" /><param name="loop" value="false" /><embed pluginspage="http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/" type="video/quicktime" class="mov" width="560" height="480" src="HOMEfiles/_bondi_homeflash140806.swf" controller="false" autoplay="true" scale="tofit" volume="100" loop="false"></embed></object>');
    It doesn't recognise either a .mov or a .swf version, either newly exported from flash or the original & is the same for Firefox & Safari, Mac or PC. And yet my Weedy Sea Dragon .mov on "Bondi Beach" page works (Gotta check it out, they are amazing fish related to the Sea Horse)
    Sorry for the length.
    Thanks in advance
    See ya
    Rick

    I believe this is your problem.
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304341
    With QuickTime 7.1.3, Flash content played by QuickTime no longer works. Since iWeb embeds .swf to be played by QuickTime, that's why you have those problems on the viewed page and also why iWeb no longer knows what to do with it.
    This solution works for iWeb (it only says Keynote, though)
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=304431
    The PROBLEM is that anyone who has upgraded to the newest QuickTime in order to get videos from iTunes will have the same problem when they view your sites. I'm currently in the process of going through ALL my pages and changing the .swf email link at the bottom to something that only uses QuickTime. I figured that'd be easier than trying to explain to people how to activate a QuickTime parameter.

    When I pause a rented movie and then try and finish watching it, I am told that I have already rented this movie and it has not been downloaded.  I am instructed to go to iTunes on the AppleTv menu, but there is no download section on any menu and search for rentals only gives me a continuous spinning wheel?

    The time it takes to load is dependent on your network. Rentals made on ATV won't be available on any other device.
    What is your current connection. Use speedtest.net
    Make sure DNS is set to automatic (settings - general - network)
    If on wifi try Ethernet
    Go to istumbler (Mac) or netstumbler (PC) to get a report of the network, look for signal strength and noise

  • HT1657 The rented movie has stalled while viewing and won't progress.  1h28m44sec into the movie. What to do?

    Rented a movie, it has stalled at 1.28.44 - and won't go further.  Rebooted.  Nothing.  What to do?

    Apple support came up with the following option, which actuall seemed to work:  Hold the option key and click on the movie.  This will generate a new dialog box, click on "Play Selected" and magic seems to happen.  Go figure.

  • Issue with border around submenu when a flash movie is under it

    I've searched the forum and although I found posts about flash movies covering spry menu items, I couldn't find this exact thing.
    I have a spry menu with a submenu which has a 1px solid border around it.  On the pages linked to by the submenu items, I have flash movies.  For pages where the flash movie is down far enough so that it is not overlapped by the submenu, everything looks great.  However, on those pages where the submenu overlaps the flash movie, the border around the submenu is not visible on one side and is offset about a pixel on the other side.  This is only happening in Firefox 3.6.18  Every other browser I've tried works.  Thanks in advance for any suggestions.

  • Flash movie doesn't load properly in IE only

    I have a simple flash movie which transitions through text and photos. I have a preloader (AS3) on frame 1, which sends the playhead to frame 2, after the movie has loaded 100%. For some reason, in Internet Explorer, the preloader bar will load all the way, but fail to move the playhead to frame 2, so it'll just sit there, with the preload bar at 100%. However, this does not happen every time. For instance, right now, the flash movie will play when I initially go to the website, but when I click on another page, the same flash header (same swf on each page) will just show the preloader bar but will not play the rest of the movie. Reloading the page doesn't help. Closing the browser and reopening it doesn't help. Clearing the browser cache doesn't help either. So, the flash movie will play correctly on the first page of the website I go to (whether it be the home page or another page) but then when I go to any other page which has the flash movie, it won't play, just sits there with the preloader bar showing. And then when going back to the initial page I entered the site on, the flash movie no longer plays there, either. I haven't seen this problem in any other browser than Internet Explorer (6 and 7). I've checked in Firefox on Mac and PC and Safari on Mac. I'm using flash player 10.0.22.87 on my Mac and PC. The flash movie was made in Flash CS3, for flash player 9, actionscript 3 code.
    So, to see the problem, go here in Internet Explorer: http://demo.matthewpavkov.com/adairsolar. Wait for the movie to load and start playing. It works. Then, navigate to one of the other pages and you'll see that the same swf will not play. Navigate back to the home page, the swf does not play.
    Here is the preloader code:
    import flash.display.*;
    this.stop();
    this.loaderInfo.addEventListener(ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, PL_LOADING);
    function PL_LOADING(event:ProgressEvent):void {
        var pcent:Number=event.bytesLoaded/event.bytesTotal*100;
        lbar.scaleX=pcent/100;
        lpc.text=int(pcent)+"%";
        if (pcent>=100) {
            this.gotoAndStop(2);
    Also, if I remove the preloader actionscript code, the flash movie plays correctly. You can see that here: http://demo.matthewpavkov.com/adairsolar/no-preload
    The .fla is available to anyone who wants to take a closer look.

    mjjp,
         In may just be that in IE, the ProgressEvent never fires -- because your content is already cached.  See what happens if you add the following new lines (very end of the code sample):
    this.stop();
    this.loaderInfo.addEventListener(
      ProgressEvent.PROGRESS, PL_LOADING
    function PL_LOADING(event:ProgressEvent):void {
      var pcent:Number=event.bytesLoaded/event.bytesTotal*100;
      lbar.scaleX=pcent/100;
      lpc.text=int(pcent)+"%";
      if (pcent>=100) {
        this.gotoAndStop(2);
    if (this.loaderInfo.bytesLoaded >= this.loaderInfo.bytesTotal) {
      this.gotoAndStop(2);
         See what's going on?  This way, even of the ProgressEvent handler never fires, you're still comparing the bytesLoaded property against the bytesTotal property.

  • Embedding a Flash movie on a secure page

    Hi,
    I've used the Dreamweaver CS3 wizard to embed a Flash movie
    in an ASP page and it works fine.
    However, when I move the page on a SSL connection the Flash
    movie won't display. If I change all the
    http:// references to https:// in the scripts
    (like I saw on an old post) I only get a white box instead of the
    movie.
    Please see the attached bit of code.
    The old post I read was referring to an old version of Flash
    but I doubt that it would make a difference?
    Thanks.

    Has the Scripts folder been uploaded and pathed properly?

  • Can't See Particular Flash Movie on Specific Site

    OP: Windows 7
    Web browser: IE9 , chrome
    Flash version : 10.3.183.7
    Hey,
    I recently bought a new acer TravelMate 5742Z computer. Now i'm having an issue in playing a particular movie on my student's web site(www.high-q.co.il) that is only working with Internet Explorer. All the other flash movies on the same site and other sites seems to work fine except this one. The thing is that on other computers with the same OP, web browser and flash player it works good. I tried to install Win XP and changing IE version to ie7, and ie8, tried to uninstall flash player and installing its offline version, I also deleted all my browsing data and lowered the security level on IE properties, installed the newest graphic drivers, tried to add this site on the trusted locations settings, enabling it on the addons section, but it still shows only BLACK screen and when I right click on it, it says "Movie not loaded". It sometimes blinks the movie for a second and then it goes black again.
    Here's how it looks:
    Thanks!

    Could you try disabling hardware acceleration and see if that makes a difference?
    How do I disable or enable hardware acceleration?
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • Flash Movie Tween Displays Off Canvas in Flex

    I have a SWF which plays a tween of a sliding door moving downwards.  I am loading it using SWFLoader and then extracting the content as a MovieClip and playing it.  The intention is that it will occupy the top half of the screen in the Flex app so the size of the SWFLoader has been set accordingly.  I have tried to constrain it in various types of containers but no matter what I do the door slides down into bottom half of my Flex app (obscuring other stuff) even though the flash movie has a size which corresponds to the top half of the window only and plays that way as a standalone movie.
    Any ideas on this?  Surely there must be some way to say "use the following rectangle of the screen and no more".

    Okay.  So I figured it out.  Seems that you have to set clipAndEnableScrolling="true" on the container. Cheers.

  • Stop button on flash movie doens't stop it unconditionally

    Hello again to all ...
    Sorry but I need to ask you to go to
    http://www.importubos.com/
    There you can see this flash movie has a play and a stop
    buttons.
    Their associates action are respectively:
    on (release) {
    play();
    and
    on (release) {
    stop();
    Question is:
    Although they work well, when I stop the movie and go, for
    example from EMPRESA to CONTATOS (through site menu),
    the movie starts again playing.
    How to stop the movie so it stays stoped even when I go
    through different section of the site ?
    Lots of thanks
    Miguel Garcia

    You'd probably have to set a cookie and read it back (through
    javascript) on
    each new page. I think the animation is more than enough on
    the home page -
    I would make a static jpg of it for each of the interior
    pages if I were
    you. Then you don't have to worry about cookies and
    javascript. Just assume
    that they don't want to see it keep going, and going, and
    going... :-)
