Flash movie won't play in FireFox or IE

Okay, So I haven't done much in flash in a while. However, I imported a new movie and then published the movie from flash and made an html page as well. For some reason I can not see the movie when I go to the page.
http://www.pe.gatech.edu/video/frankie-pool.html
Does it play for anyone else?
Any ideas on what to do to fix this?
Thanks
Tim

Could be a number of things.
For starters the code calls for this file:
http://www.pe.gatech.edu/movies/frankie-pool.swf
in this line:
<param name="movie" value="http://www.pe.gatech.edu/movies/frankie-pool.swf" />
Attempting to direct download by clicking on the link above returns file not found... so of course the browser will not be able to find it either.
The path to the .swf uses the folder "movies" but the html page in is a folder called "video".
Is that correct in both cases? if it is, the it could be a pathing problem... but of course you have to first make sure that all the files have been uploaded correctly.
There may be as many as 3 files needed, the main .swf file, perhaps a skin .swf file... though maybe not, and of course, the actual .flv file.
Double check to make sure they have all been correctly uploaded.
Then a word about pathing... if the .swf and/or the .flv are not in the same folder as the html page, the path used by the .swf to the .flv file needs to be relative to the html page, NOT the physical location of the .swf or the .flv file.
For review:
Pathing issues
Almost always when it works on the local machine and not the server, it's a pathing problem.
You can put your Flash related files in whatever folders you want, they do NOT have to be in the root, they do NOT all have to be in the same folder. But if you have a problem and if sticking them all in the root folder works, then you know that the issue was a pathing problem.
Just remember that paths used in the .swf become relative to the Web page on which the .swf is placed, NOT it’s physical location.  So for example, if your .swf is in the flash/data folder and you use that .swf on a Web page in the root folder, you are in effect, removing that .swf from flash/data and putting it in root. So if the .swf is loading any related files (xml, images, video, etc), the path used inside the .swf to load the .xml file has to be relative to it's new location in root and then back down into flash/data. This is true even though when testing the .swf by itself, it can be inside flash/data and work just fine, since relative to it's location, the path is just fine, they are in the same folder. But if that same path is used when the .swf is placed on a page two folder levels up, the relative path has changed, the old "same folder" path will not work.
In fact if you are placing the .swf on a web page in a different folder than the .swf is stored in, and that .swf calls external assets, then direct clicking and opening of the .swf in it’s folder should NOT work! That’s because the paths to the external assets should be relative to the Web page and not the physical location of the .swf.
So just be sure that you use addresses relative to the final Web page locations (not physical file locations) and you can put the Flash related files in what ever folders you want.
Best wishes,

  • Flash movie won't play in PowerPoint

I have created a flash movie, however, when I try to view the
slideshow, all I see is a blank page. I have installed the most
updated Active Controls and the Shockwave Player, but it still
    won't play.

Right click. Open up the properties of the embedded swf.
Change 'Playing' to True. Close properties.
Careful, this may not last. I think it automatically reverts
    to "playing = Flase"

  • Flash movies won't play in document or browser

    Hi there,
I am having problems with putting flash movies onto my website. I know this is a common problem so apologies for any repetition.
I have trawled through a lot of forums trying to solve this issue and so far have not found a solution that works for me.
First of all I'm using dreamweaver v7, on a macbook OSX (intel)
On inserting flash movie, only the box with 'f' apears in the document, and in browser, nothing at all. It doesn't worry me so much that the movie doesn't appear in the doc, as with shockwave it's the same. However shockwaves play fine in browser.
I have tried the following so far:
    - moved the movie .flv file to the same folder as the html document that it relates to
    - made the file name really, really simple. 6 letters and no other characters.
    - tested in alternative browsers
    - tried inserting another flash object (flash button) to see whether the problem resides in inserting flash objects, or if the problem is with the movie file itself (the flash button worked, so I thought the movie file must be the problem) - so then ...
    - I tried compressing the movie in a different programme - I tried sorenson squeeze - still nothing
    - As inserting the movie as a quicktime works fine using 'insert shockwave', I even tried changing the file extension of the QT version from .mov to .swf as I read somewhere that it might work (!!!??) but it didn't though the movie still played without dreamweaver
So, I reach the conclusion that the movie is not after all the problem - but what is? since inserting other flash objects does work?
Very confused! Thank you for any help offered.... Laura

I am a bit confused though - is flash video not the same as flash movie?
No. Flash refers to its files as movie files. FLA (editable) and SWF (compressed for Web) are Flash movies - not to be confused with cinema. FLV files are Flash Video files.
Just to confuse matters some, just prior to the creation of the .flv format, it was not uncommon to import videos into Flash and save them as .swf movies (videos). But that was only good for very short, very small videos.
Additionally, since you brought it up, Shockwave files are also referred to as movies. But they are created by Director, not Flash. Director, like Flash, refers to its files as movie files. DIR is the editable file and DCR is the Shockwave-compressed file for the Web. The Shockwave plugin is not the same as the Shockwave Flash plugin. Shockwave Flash cannot play Shockwave movies, but Shockwave movies can play Flash .swf movies - neither of which are videos.
How's that for clear as mud?

  • Quicktime movie won't play in firefox

Hi. I just made a movie and trailer that I put up on the web. My friend programmed the site. I used apple's compressor program to compress the video for web. I chose the quicktime 7 setting. The quicktime 7 setting in compressor seems to be compressing it into a .mov file. The movie plays fine in safari and internet explorer, but for some reson will not play in firefox.
Has anybody had a similar problem? Does anybody know why I can't get this movie to play in firefox?
Thanks a lot for the help.

  • Flash Movie won't Play

    Good Morning,
I'm sure someone may have asked about this already but...
I'm running Safari 4.0.2 On OS 10.5.7. I am putting my portfolio page (html) onto a CD to make copies to mail out. One of the pieces that I am showing on the html page is an flash animation that I designed.
When I click the link in my page that opens the animation in a separate html page, the flash animation proceeds to play fine...in Firefox, but when I click the link in Safari... I get a blank pop up and the folder containing the actual .swf file pops up.
Not sure what's going on. the .swf plays in all other browsers except Safari. I've checked Safari prefs. and enable plugins is selected.
    Any ideas.
    Thanks

  • Flash movie won't play on testing or remote server in web page

I have a Flash slideshow that will only play in a browser if I click File > Open and open the .swf file locally and directly (not in a web page). It has never played in a webpage, remotely on the web server or locally on the Wamp server. It plays correctly in Flash when I test it.
I have tried uploading the HTML page that Flash generates (without any changes), and it won't even play in that file. I have also tried using Dreamweaver's "Insert Flash" feature, and that was no good either.

    No, unfortunately, that didn't work.

    hi there,
when u find the answer, plz let me know! :D
i have been pullin my hair out 2 for ages. I think i have a
    similar problem to urs.
My website previews perfectly when i test in flash.
functionality is fine. but when i upload to my server, the FLV
playback screws up. i.e comes in when its not suppose to and doesnt
    reset. (keeps layering the audio)
i think it "may" have something to do with my web host server
settings. i have tried adding a FLV mime extension. no good! ...and
also think the html might have to have an absolute location for the
file. i.e it can't find the file on the server as it can while
playing locally. good luck! n like i said, let me know if u find a
    solution plz! ronnie

Plug-in not "visible" in list even though Quicktime is installed. In this OS, we cannot "reinstall" Quicktime because it's built into the OS. How can I get the QT videos to run inside Firefox?

You said that QuickTime movies won't play "inside Firefox". Do they play inside Safari or when you directly access a QuickTime Movie file that's been saved on your Mac ?
See the Firefox Support article, [[Use the QuickTime plugin to play audio and video]]. It has some test links and explains how to enable the QuickTime plugin in the Add-ons Manager, in case it's been disabled in Firefox.
Like you say, QuickTime is built into the operating system on Mac OS so if you can't enable the browser plugin in Firefox or if it's missing, your best bet would be a Mac forum such as https://discussions.apple.com/

I have reset Firefox, completed all the steps in "flash video won't play full screen on YouTube, Facebook and other websites". And the video still won't play in full screen. It will play, but frequently stops or sound continues and picture freezes. I have noticed that if I continually move my mouse, it plays fine. All these videos play fine in IE and Chrome.

Some problems with Flash video playback can be resolved by disabling hardware acceleration in your Flash Player settings. (See [[Flash Plugin - Keep it up to date and troubleshoot problems|this article]] for more information on using the Flash plugin in Firefox).
To disable hardware acceleration in Flash Player:
#Go to this [http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html#main_Solve_video_playback_issues Adobe Flash Player Help page].
#Right-click on the Flash Player logo on that page.

The Flash Player Settings dialog box doesn't respond to mouse clicks. As a workaround, press the Tab key to move to the Close button and press the spacebar to close the dialog box. While not all settings are available, you can also use the Flash Player native control panel in System Preferences.
