Flash movies need two clicks to start

I record short videos with a camcorder, Capture that into
Premiere Elements 3 and Export it to WMV (or AVI), then use Swish
Video 2 to encode that to SWF with a simple player added.
I place it in my web page in DW MX 2004. I leave the default
properties of Loop and Autoplay checked on (I don't know what they
do but the settings in the player when I create it with the SWF
seem to override these anyway).
When I then put the page on the web, the video always
requires clicking on the Play button
twice
before it will start to play.
The video
on this page is
an example. The same thing
always happens when I use the above procedure.
Why is that?

It's IE-only behaviour as a result of changes Microsoft made
several
years ago to their browser, regarding how Active Content
(Flash, Quicktime
etc)
is handled, after losing a high profile court case.

  • Why does my Flash movie need to be clicked in twice

    I'm sure this is something really dumb and simple I haven't
    done correctly, but it's my first time actually running a Flash
    project inside q browser. I used the html that was generated by the
    publish process, and when the page launches, there is kind of a
    dotted line around the Flash project and then it seems I first have
    to click inside that frame before any of my buttons etc. work. What
    have I done wrong?
    Thanks for help.

    Oh god .. here we go again .. Obviously someone has been
    living under a rock
    or on a deserted island for a few months :)
    This is due to Microsoft IE changes required to avoid
    infringing the
    (stupid) EOLAS patent. It applies to all Active-X control
    that can interact
    with the user.
    If you are viewing a web site, you cannot really do anything
    to fix it,
    except complain to the web master
    Here is a link to find information on how to fix your website
    to cope with

  • Audio in .pdf needing multiple clicks to start playing ...

    I am building a Rich Media eBook in pdf format for teaching. I have created a single page 'test-bed' with a couple of audio files (.mp3) and a couple of video files (.flv)  (one each embedded and linked).  The media does play in Acrobat Reader 9, but the audio files will not play when their control icon is first clicked. The player pops up properly, with the play icon appearing as 'pause' as it normally would if the audio were playing. But it is not. Clicking once more turns it to 'play', and then clicking once more starts the audio playing.
    Any advice on why this may be happening, and how I can fix it?
    The test file, which is here, was created in InDesign, and exported as pdf, with the audio and video then added by Acrobat 9 Pro. (Mac OS 10.5.8 / CS4)
    Thanks for any advice ...

    You're trying to play 'legacy' media which was depreciated a number of years ago for security reasons. It relies on some external player understanding how to open the file type, but Acrobat/Reader can only send the file across and hope that something will react, it cannot help you find the codecs you need.

  • Publishing a flash movie, need help!

    ok so i made several flash files and connected them with buttons with,  behaviours [load external movie clip] but when i moved it to a cd the  buttons  dont work. I really need help!!! how do i keep them connected.

  • Safari 8 needs two click to load links or send to homepage, only on a website that runs well in other mac or browser: how to reset safari?

    Hello, i'm going crazy with this issue.
    I upgraded to 10.10 my MBP Retina two weeks ago without any problem.
    Yesterday i noticed that one website i mange (e-commerce done with magento) all links, tabs and menù didn't worked.
    Whatever i was clicking I always was redirected to the homepage (Index.php).
    I empty the cache, I canceled the user and passwords connected to this website (public or backend), i removed all data form "privacy" menù....
    nothing...
    I also tried, in development menù, to de-activate "styles" (in Italian we have "stili) that is the template, but i get the sam effect.
    Changed connection, restarted the mac, restarted safari...
    I only noticed one thing: if i make a "double click" on the link, menù, ecc.. it will bring me on the correct page and will keep in
    If i press just one time i see an instant the correct link than a redirect to homepage....
    This happens only with one of my websites, all made with magento, all placed in the same server.
    If i try using chrome or firefox it works well
    If i use my iMac with Yosemite it works well.....
    I'm going crazy... please help me

    I used this method and all seems ok... i hope...
    Is this a virus?

  • Why does it need a click to start slide

    Hi,  I have a presentation with about 20 slides in it.   Slide 5 has 5 objects on it with a build out on the last object which works perfectly.   Slide 6 has a Build In on it, set to After Transition and 0 seconds delay.    However this slide will not start unless I click.    Can anyone tell me why please?
    Thanks
    Alex

    I would guess the transition for this slide is set to "on click":
    Inspector > Animate > Start Transition; click on the drop down menu and change to Automatically

  • Need two clicks to visit website

    My website is published to .mac and pointed to its own domain name through GoDaddy:
    www.eastglacierpark.info
    It's been working perfectly for five months. Now suddenly, when I want to visit my website and type its address in the URL bar, I get an error message saying it's not available. If I retype it or reclick the URL bar, it works. This happens on both of my Mac computers. I tried republishing it completely to no avail.
    Can anyone explain why this is happening and how I can fix it?
    Thank you.

    Chuck,
    It worked. Your solution was embarrassingly simple, and I should have thought of it myself. Thank you!
    A real dummie,

  • Flash Movie to Play Sitewide w/o Re-Starting...

    Hi,
    Is it possible to have a Flash movie play sitewide without
    re-starting on each page and without using frames?
    How?
    Thanks!

    You could hack something with unique URL's to get the SWF to
    stay on the correct section. I've seen some interesting ideas in
    this train of thought for making the SWF work with the back button
    of the browser. Essentially, you would cause each "page" or
    "section" of your SWF to change the url to something like "
    http://www.myWebsite.com?sect=portfolio"
    changing the ?sect= at the end each time. Then, have the HTML
    auto-read that URL variable and pass it into the SWF. In the SWF,
    check to see if the variable exists, if not, play from the start,
    if it does, go straight to that section. This would mimick the type
    of behavior you are looking for, and you would have the added
    benefit of a browser page-like structure that works with the
    back/forward buttons.
    The downside is you would need a page-refresh in-between SWF
    sections, though the SWF would be cached, so the user wouldn't need
    to re-download it. Of course, you could use some AJAX structure to
    get rid of the white flicker of the screen...... but that is
    another discussion entirely.
    Hope I gave you a good starting point for some play. It may
    be more of a hassle than its worth to do this, but definitely
    possible.

  • How Do I Execute An exe or an msi Install file From a Button in Flash Movie

    Issue:
    I have a flash movie that runs as a standalone player on a
    Demo CD... I also have an install msi file(same as an exe) that
    when the user is done viewing the flash movie they can click on a
    menu button in the flash movie that executes the msi or exe located
    on the root of the CD which starts the install process.
    Question: What is the action script (FOR FLASH 8) that i
    apply to the button that will initiate or call the MSI or exe
    install file.
    Anyhelp would be great... even a link to an example... or
    anything... thanks
    Thanks in advance...

    fscommand("exec","myexe.exe");
    Should run the program myexe.exe inside a directory called
    fscommand
    which must be a subdirectory of whereever your projector is
    located.
    In windows:I know you can run .bat files with fscommand. But
    I'm not sure about msi files.
    You can often get around the limitations by having a .bat
    file that will a) show a cmd window briefly and b) do the thing
    that you couldn't do from flash.
    If running the msi doesn't work from flash directly you may
    want to try using a bat file...
    There's some information here.

  • Displaying flash movies randomly

    Hi All,
    I have a question regarding flash.
    I want to develop my project with the flash.
    My project scenario is, I have a total no of 60 (.swf) flash
    movies and are about to take 4 to 5 minutes each, my aim is to
    display 20 .swf files randomly at a time on the screen.
    i.e., if we click on a button for the first time, it should
    display a 20 flash movies on the screen and when we click for the
    second time it should display other set of 20 flash movies it may
    or may not repeat the previous ones. It means every person should
    be displayed with a different set of flash movies, no two persons
    can get the same set of movies. The movies should be randomly
    selected.
    Could you please direct me to meet my scenario.
    Thank you for your precious time.

  • Need to click on first FLASH movie to reactivate after second window

    Hi there...
    I am hoping there is a simple code-solution out there to work around the following problem:
    I am building a mainly flash-base website that also incorporates a couple of pages of straight XHTML for some of the content. If I navigate from my main FLASH movie, the HTML pages open on click via the main menu (in their own window, "_blank"). When I close that XHTML-page to go back to the previous (FLASH, embedded with swfObject) page, I need to click on that original page once to re-activate the FLASH content (i.e. make the rollovers visible, make the menu work, etc)...Is there any way to avoid that extra click, and to have the original page remain "active"?
    I hope this makes sense - I wasn't sure how else to describe the issue.
    Thanks in advance for your help, experts  :-)

    Thanks, but not sure I follow you.
    Here's a simple example in a single AS file:
    package
        import flash.display.MovieClip;
        import flash.events.KeyboardEvent;
        import flash.ui.Keyboard;
        import flash.events.Event;
        public class Main extends MovieClip
            public function Main()
                stage.addEventListener(KeyboardEvent.KEY_DOWN, onKeyDown);
            function onKeyDown(event:KeyboardEvent):void
                if (event.keyCode==Keyboard.RIGHT)
                    player.x += 1;   // move the player to the right
    When I press the RIGHT arrow key, the player object in my FLA file moves to the right.
    When I publish this to a webserver, running the SWF file from an HTML file, I have to click the movie with the mouse before I can move the player with the keyboard.
    Thanks,
    Ole

  • Captivate/Flash Movie Starts Automatically

    I'm learning to use RoboHelp X5 and tried placing an .swf
    (Flash movie) that I created with Captivate within my WebHelp. In
    Captivate I added a playback control bar (forward, pause, play,
    etc.), which works great standalone. However, after generating the
    WebHelp, when I view the page that the movie is on, the movie
    starts automatically---actually it waits about 8 seconds, but then
    just starts. I would expect the person viewing the movie to have to
    use the playback control to manually start the movie. Is there an
    option somewhere that I need to turn on/off?
    Thanks,
    John

    Hi John and welcome to the community
    There are two ways I'm aware of that can be used to
    accomplish this.
    The first and possibly simplest way is to simply insert a
    click box at the very beginning of the movie. By default, click
    boxes are configured to pause the movie until the user interacts by
    clicking the click box area. Actually, if you are presenting your
    movie in .EXE format, I believe this is the only way you can
    accomplish it.
    The second way is to configure the HTML code used in the HTML
    Companion page. Obviously this only works if you are presenting
    your movie in .SWF format and using the companion HTML page to
    display the movie.
    Captivate creates the following code when you create Flash
    (SWF) output and select the Export HTML option.
    <!-- saved from url=(0013)about:internet -->
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01
    Transitional//EN"
    http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">
    <html>
    <head>
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;
    charset=utf-8">
    <title>Movie Title</title>
    </head>
    <body>

    <object classid="clsid

    width="640" height="480" ID="Captivate1">
    <param name="movie" value="MovieName.swf">
    <param name="quality" value="high">
    <param name="menu" value="false">
    <param name="loop" value="0">
    <embed src="MovieName.swf" width="640" height="480"
    loop="0" quality="high" pluginspage="

    type="application/x-shockwave-flash" menu="false"></embed>
    </object>
    </center>
    </body>
    </html>
    If you amend this code by inserting <param name="play"
    value="false" /> and play="false", you achieve the goal of
    displaying the movie in a "paused to begin with" state.
    Amended code is below
    <!-- saved from url=(0013)about:internet -->
    <!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01
    Transitional//EN"
    http://www.w3.org/TR/html4/loose.dtd">

  • Need help with FLV type SWF playback in flash movie

    Hi,
    I have three external SWF files from a client without FLA
    sources. The SWFs were done 3 years ago by someone else so there is
    no way to modify the existing SWF files. These contain no
    interactivity but may involve nested clips on the main timeline.
    They are AS1 or AS2 files so they need to be done with AS2
    scripting to keep it simple.
    I need to call these SWF files inside another flash movie and
    play them in a player window as if they were video files with
    play/pause, seekbar and volume controls. The needed functionality
    is similar to FLV players. My controls will use custom graphic
    buttons and sliders mimicking the look of CNN video player window.
    Does anyone know a good tutorial on how to script these
    controls for SWF?
    Most likely I think I will load it in a clip and I am
    thinking that I will need to get the duration of the loaded swf in
    order to set up the seekbar.
    Thanks in advance,
    Attila

    I think your professor, or somebody, gave you directions with ActionScript 2 programming. In AS2, what oyu have here would have worked just fine. But, in AS3, you need to use a fairly different approach. Your buttons, and their instance name, can remain the same. But now, in AS3, you have to add event listeners in the following manner:
    yourButtonName.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, yourListenerFunction);
    In your case, you can do one of two things - A) assign a unique listener function to each button, or B) assign the same listsner to both functions:
    A)
    start_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, startPolygon);
    stop_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, stopPolygon);
    function startPolygon(e:MouseEvent):void{
        polygon.play();
    function stopPolygon(e:MouseEvent):void{
        polygon.stop();
    B)
    start_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, controlPolygon);
    stop_btn.addEventListener(MouseEvent.CLICK, controlPolygon);
    function controlPolygon(e:MouseEvent):void{
       if (e.target.name == "start_btn") {//Test for the name of the object that dispatched the CLICK event
          polygon.play();
       } else if (e.target.name == "stop_btn") {
          polygon.stop();
    When I'm using several buttons that do the same/nearly similar things, I favor approach B over A, as it keeps me to jsut one single function to deal with.

  • Need Your Help with Loading SWF into another Flash Movie!

    Hello,
    I have created TWO Flash movies. They work just fine
    individually, but I get problem when I put one into another one!
    The main Flash is a Menu and the second one if a Photo Album.
    The Menu is series of animation (Moving Objects) which finally
    comes into rest and create the menu. The photo album is another SWF
    file which is called with in the first Flash Movie (The Menu). The
    SWF file is loaded as follow into the Main Flash.
    MovieClip.prototype.drawRect = function(x, y, w, h) {
    this.beginFill(0xFF0000, 100);
    this.moveTo(0, 0);
    this.lineTo(0+w, 0);
    this.lineTo(0+w, 0+h);
    this.lineTo(0, 0+h);
    this.lineTo(0, 0);
    this.endFill();
    this._x = x;
    this._y = y;
    this.createEmptyMovieClip("mc6", 6);
    mc6.lineStyle (3, 0x000000, 100);
    mc6.drawRect(-77, -17, 20, 20);
    mc6._xscale = 100;
    mc6._yscale = 100;
    loadMovie("photoAlbum.swf", mc6);
    Problem arises when I click on the Play Button of the
    photoAlbum.swf (Photo Album) since the execution of the play button
    causes the Flash starts once again from the beginning of the entire
    Flash Movie (Beginning of the animation creating the menu) and it
    simply jumps into the Firm One of my Flash Movie.
    Could you tell me how I can isulate what is in layer 6 (Where
    the photoAlbum is loaded to) from the rest of my Flash Movie?
    I hope I managed to explain my problem. I would like to take
    this opportunity to thank you in advance for your help.
    Cheers,
    Babak

    Hello Anya,
    I have realized the problem arises from the Wait Function
    which causes the Photo Album to pause for a period of time (Two
    Seconds) once a Photo is fully displayed (I have Fade in/out Photo
    Album). I realized everything works OK once I remove the function
    and rather left the Photos to be flipped without any pausing (This
    is an Auto-loading Album which simply Flips the photos!).
    Here is the Wait Function which is causing all the trouble.
    function wait()
    stop();
    var myInterval = setInterval(function ()
    play();
    clearInterval(myInterval);
    }, 2000);
    Thank you so much for your help.
    Cheers,
    Babak
