Flash MX 2004 and the Intel-based Macs

Due to the demise of my previous computer I just bought one
of the new Intel-based Macs. Most of my programs seem to work fine
but Flash MX 2004 is crashing shortly after startup. Do I need to
upgrade before I can use Flash again?

I have the same problem launching Flash 2004 on an intel imac 24 inch. All the other programmes of Studio 2004 launch apart from Flash. FYI Flash 8 installs and works fine.
I recollect that someone suggested writing a script(?) in Terminal to solve a similar problem with programmes crashing on launch.

According to what Steve said in his keynote address on the Migration to Intel, so I think this is not speculation, they will start with the Mac Mini and iBook with the release being sometime during the summer of 2006. The rest of the line will foloow later with the Powermac being released sometime during the second half of 2007

Is there a way to view Windows Media Files on the Intel based Mac's?

I tried downloding WMP for Mac and also Flip4Mac but I could not install either because it said the programs don't support Intel based Mac's. I thought they would automatically run under Rosetta. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

That's good because Microsoft has discontinued all support for WMP on OS X. They recommend you download Flip4Mac instead.

Hey guys, I just want to know if there will be the newest version for Garageband Jam Packs to be released for the Mac OS X Lion as an Intel program? Let me know when will it be if so? If not, please let me know the reason why or why not?

Anything could happen, including a new JamPack series, but it appears as if at least for now, the JamPacks have been discontinued.
There were some lingering installation problems, but more than that, Apple is generally moving to online software distribution and away from boxed sets.
If you google them, you can still find boxed sets for sale, and perhaps one day there will be an online version.

Internet Sharing for PPC and Intel based Macs

I have OSX 10.4 Server running with NAT and DHCP enabled. The internet is accessed through a wired connection, and 2 Powerbooks(PPC based) and an Intel iMac and MacBook connected to the server via Airport. The wireless signal is WEP protected, and the Intel based Macs can connect to the wireless network, recieve a good IP address and access the internet. These two connected computers can be seen on the Server Admin DHCP Clients tab.
My problem is with the PPC based Mac, the 2 PowerBooks. Those computers can connect to the wirless network, but they get an invalid IP address. Not only is the IP invalid, so is the Subnet Mask.
All computers are running 10.4.7, and all installed from the Combo Updater.
Any suggestions?

We're having the same problem here!
Rarely we manage to get the right IP address assigned to one PPC machine by playing with various network settings but we didn't found a reliable way to get the PPC machines always working.
This is really strange... any suggestion is appreciated.

Fireworks 4 and the Intel Macs

upgrade from my ruby G3 iMac to one of the new 13" MacBooks and I
need to know if my copy of Fireworks 4 (OS9) will run on it.

Sorry Marty but no, OS 9 won't run at all on the Intel based
Macs. It'd
still run in Classic if you got a PowerPC based Mac but, at
this point, you
don't really want to be doing that. You're going to get
yourself an upgraded
version of Fireworks.

Is there a partition scheme for both powerpc and intel-based macs?

I need to partition a drive to back up using time machine from two different Macs: one is powerpc and one is intel but disk utility seems to only allow you to choose on or the other.
this is the disk utility option:
Select a new partition scheme:
* Use Apple Partition Map partition scheme if the disk will be used with Time Machine and a PowerPC-based Mac.
* Use GUID partition scheme if the disk will be used with Time Machine and a Intel-based Mac.

TM will most likely work fine with both computers if you partition the drive GUID. that's been the experience of most people who do it. but apple does recommend partitioning the TM drive GUID for backing up intel macs and APM for PPC ones.
using GUID is unlikely to create problems but it may.
but if you want safety on this you'll need two separate drives.

Intel based Mac can't see airport exteme

My new intel based mac and airport had been working fine. Then last week it lost communication with base station. Now it will work using only Apple default setup and my Mac cannot configure base station through base station utility. It does not see the base station. I can connect to it only through the defaut Apple network, I have no control over naming, security, signal or any other options available through the setup assistant.
What gives? How do I gain control of this device again?

Try Connecting the Intel based MAC hardwired directly to the base sation, then disconnect it and returnt he base station to the way you had it and see if the Intle Based MAC then sees the base station.

Your MacBook Air is an Intel-based system. To download the current version (11.2.202.228), go to http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ and download it from there.
If there is still a Flash issue, you can try the Google Chrome browser, which has the current Flash built into it, to see if it works any differently with the videos. It's available from https://www.google.com/chrome

Genius bar told me to erase the harddisk and install OSX Maverick again. This has not changed the problems with the system settings

You need to Repartition the drive as One partition which will erase all data from it and then reinstall OS X. then with the initial setup system you chose the language on the first screen that comes up. That sets the language for the whole system.
There is no other way of completely removing certain information created by a previous owner. this hold strue whether you are selling or give a Mac to someone.
To do the repartitioning you need to use the Online Internet Recovery system, if the Mac came with Lion 10.7 or above, or from the original system reinstall discs that came with it when it was new.

Microsoft 2004 and my Intel Mac

I know this is a really stupid question but unfortunately I don't know the answer.
I have been given Microsoft Office 2004 and the box shows the old Mac symbol and not the universal symbol. I think, but I'm not sure, that the software pre-dates the Intel Mac. So...will this copy of Office run on an Intel Mac.

there are no such things as'stupid questions'.
MS Office 2004 is a PPC (PowerPC) application, original programmed for the pre-Intel Macs.
Intel-Macs are capable of running such apps through an interpretation-layer called Rosetta.
So the Office 2004 will work on your Intel-Mac, but with a noticeable loss of speed (depending on how much RAM you have).
The 2008 version of MS-Office (due to release in Fall 2007) will be a Universal Binary app.

Why does most of the "system preferences" not load due to having an intel based mac?

I used to be able to access ALL of the items in "system preferences". Since the upgrade to Mavericks, which the Apple Store did for me, I cannot use most of them. It won't load my printer information. I cannot access security and privacy, users and accouts, parental controls, etc. Sometimes a window pops up and says "Preference Error" could not load.....pane. Or it will say "Preference Error" (and something like) cannot load ....... because it's an intel based mac. What the heck does that mean and why does it say that when I used to be able to access everything in the "System Preferences"? Please help! I'm sooooo frustrated and confused right now.

Restart with the Option key held down and see if the internal drive appears.
If it does, click on it, press Enter, and then change the setting in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences or the Startup Disk control panel.
If it doesn't, insert a Mac OS install CD or DVD and use the Disk Utility or Disk First Aid to repair the internal drive. If there aren't any problems, install an OS onto it.

OS9 on an Intel-based Mac

I'm thinking of buying an Intel-based Mac, but would really like to be able to use my favorite word processor (Word 5.1), which runs in OS9. Has any way been developed to run OS9 applications on an Intel Mac? I've heard about Sheepsaver, but have not been able to find anyone who uses it and can tell me about it.

Allan mistyped. The product is iWorks that replaces AppleWorks and consists of Pages, Keynote, and Numbers (word processor, presentation and graphics, and spreadsheet.) You can purchase it from Apple for $79.00. Pages can read and save Word compatible files (but not Office 2008 files) and is a decent word processor but not at the level of Word 2008 (part of Office 2008 X.) For a free alternative you can use NeoOffice Aqua which is an integrated package similar in functionality to Office 2004 X for Macs or Office 2000 for Windows. NeoOffice Aqua is free. Similar to NeoOffice is Open Office for Mac OS X - VersionTracker or MacUpdate - which also requires the use of the X11 windowing system that is part of OS X.
