Flash & Photoshop

I am about to work on a short animation with a designer, who
is an expert on Photoshop. Both of us are new to Flash, and this is
my first real project since I started to learn Flash. Almost all
the examples I have learned from the book, these images were either
created in Flash or have been converted into symbols. Here are my
questions:
1) If the designer insistes on doing all his design (graphic)
in Photoshop, what does he need to pay attention?
2) If we want to make a small animation like a person
walking, does he have to save all the parts (like arms, legs, face,
etc.) into different images and I assemble them all in Flash? Is
there any better way?
3) What file would be better? jpg? png? gif? or all the same?
4) Will this effect the file size?
Thank you very much... any reply would be
appreciated....

Hi,
Regarding your points, here are some ideas things come to my
head;
1) If the designer insistes on doing all his design (graphic)
in Photoshop, what does he need to pay attention?
Answer:
1- Make sure that you do not resize the image files in Flash,
use the exact image size and if you like to resize an image, do it
in Photoshop, otherwise , this may cause image distortion.
2- For solid colors, gradient, text...etc. or thing that you
can do in Flash, you can discard it form the Photoshop file and
redo it in Flash to be easy-to-edit and less in size in most cases.
3- Try to crop the unused spaces around the images.
2) If we want to make a small animation like a person
walking, does he have to save all the parts (like arms, legs, face,
etc.) into different images and I assemble them all in Flash? Is
there any better way?
Answer:
I myself do not prefer using images in animated characters,
as animating the body parts will look distorted, you need to got
the character as vector, either getting it from the vector program
or if your image is sharp enough to allow you to trace it in Flash
to convert it to vector.
But as a general concept, dividing the animated character as
parts will help animating the character more easier. The link
Keer8R provided is one of the best animation learining links, and
also, here is a link for a great animator and I am sure you will
learn alot of him (by the way he is a regular contributer in this
forum, hope he sees you post ;)):

3) What file would be better? jpg? png? gif? or all the same?
Answer:
I used to use JPG for images without transperancy and PNG for
transpernt images, but if you have Flash CS3, you will have to
worry about that, as you can import the PSD file unsing the PSD
import feature, which allows you to see the PSD files and select
what to import and what to discrad, get the transpert the layer
with reserving its transperancy, arrange the layers as frames or
layer and alot more..
If you are worry about the size you can set the quality of
the imported images from library by right-click the images and
select properties. you can either make the image take to same
quality in the publish setting by choosing (Use Document Default
Quality), or set an individual setting for each image by unchecking
this option and set the image quality as you like. the less the
quality is the less the SWF file becomes.
4) Will this effect the file size?
answer:
I guess I answered this question within the previous answers
Hope this helps

• Adobe Flash/Photoshop/After Effects CS4 Installation - Internet Explorer Script Error

Greetings everyone. Another Adobe Installation disaster story.
I'm trying to install the aforementioned products (Flash, Photoshop, After Effects) on my computer, but I get about 20 "Internet Explorer Script Error"'s every time. [I don't even use Internet Explorer] I don't understand why the installation worked on a different computer I own but not this one. Both of them are running Windows XP Home.
I've already tried removing all Adobe Products, using msicuu2.exe, CS4CleanupScript from Adobe, etc...
This is the install log that was generated for Flash.
Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

• Purchasing a new PC for Adobe/Flash/Photoshop development. Suggestions?

Hi,
I'm new here and I'm getting ready to start some heavy Photoshop/Flash/Flex development. My current PC is is pretty slow for any sort of flash/photoshop work, but it's been so long since I've bought a new system that I'm not really sure what is available/the norm for this sort of use.
I'm looking to spend 300-500 for just the tower; I don't need the OS (already have the OS install discs) and I don't need a monitor/mouse/keyboard. Any suggestions on a system/minimum specs for a system?
Thanks

The HP dv7tqe has the ability for 2 HDD and has the new Sandy Bridge 2630QM i7, but the downfall is no USB 3.0, not a huge problem till I want something that uses it,
Which would be? Unless you plan to use an external disk as your primary working drive this is a non-issue and I'm sure you could by a PC Card USB3 exteneder, if ever needed. Following your logic, nobody should buy a notebook before 2012, just because until then Apple have exclusive rights to Thunderbolt, which of course is utter nonsense. Would an average user ever even exploit this theoretical bandwidth? Same for your USB 3. So in fairness, buy what you need now, not what you may need next year...
and it has the Radeon HD 6570 with 1 gig of DDR5 ram.  This video card isn't that good, but I was wondering if it was good enough to use with Photoshop and illustrator.
*LOL* You know, 10 years ago people would have killed for it. You have a completely wrong impression of how much PS uses OpenGL features. that card wil ldo just fine, as long as its driver and configuration are compatible with PS.

• Can recent versions of adobe flash & photoshop run on 10.5.8?

Depends on what kind of Mac you have.
The latest version of Adobe FlashPlayer can be obtained from here:
http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1_Prod_Version=ShockwaveFl ash
You can check here:  http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/  to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS. Note that version 10,1,102,64 is the last version available to PPC Mac users*. The latest version, 10.2.152.25 or later, is for Intel Macs only, as Adobe no longer support the PPC platform. Note that the latest Flash Player update only works on YouTube with Safari in 32 bit mode - until YouTube correct this.
* Unhelpfully, if you want the last version for PPC Macs, you need to go here:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/142/tn_14266.html  and scroll down to 'Archived Versions/Older Archives'. The first one on the list, Flash Player 10.1 is the one you download. More information here:  http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/838/cpsid_83808.html
You should first uninstall any previous version of Flash Player, using the uninstaller from here (make sure you use the correct one!):
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/865/cpsid_86551.html#prob1=uninst,os=m10.6,
and also that you follow the instructions closely, such as closing ALL applications first before installing. You must also carry out a permission repair after installing anything from Adobe.
I think you need CS3 or above on an Intel Mac, but I run CS2 (Photoshop 9.0.2) on a PPC Mac.

• Flash (Photoshop) Web Gallery data

I have created a web gallery using Photoshop CS2 to allow my
clients to proof their images. From this gallery I want to allow
them to flag images they like then submit the selections to me via
email. Currently they are using the gallery just to view the
images. There is not a way to mark the images or to submit them via
email. The clients have to manually write down the file names, type
and email, and send it to me.
1. Can the function of selection boxes be added to the web
gallery? I do not own the full flash program.
2. Can the file names for the selected images be put into an
email to me using a submit button?
How are both of these task performed?
Thanks

1) Yes it can but you will need to modify the flash movie so
*someone* will need to know how to change the flash movie.
2) Yes this is possible but you'll either need your flash
movie to talk to the server and have the server send the email or
figure out how to get Flash to use the client's mail program. They
may or may not have one installed. Here's a tutorial for the second
option:

• Macbook Air: Suitable 4 an occasional Illustrator, Flash & Photoshop user?

Hi,
I'm in love with MBA. Having said so, I've been digging and found some performance issues around it.
I'm taking evening clases on Flash and Illustrator while sometimes do some light photo retouching with Photoshop. Blogging and browsing are, in addition to some occasional iTunes encoding, my main activities. I'm concerned about the lack of expansion possibilities... Maybe CS3 runs finebut what would happen in a near future? I'd worked and upgraded the creative suite in my Toshiba since '06, without a problem, wouldn't like to waste my bucks in a beautiful piece which would grow old pretty fast.
I'm Spanish but resident in Sweden so I travel twice a year for more than 2 weeks bak home. As a result, a feather computer would suit my aesthetic and personal needs.
Anyone doing something like that? Would love to hear your advice...

The current version of the MBA will suit you well for what you want to do -- I am running CS4 on it, and all of the software runs just fine - similar to a macbook. I see no speed differences with either Illustrator nor Photoshop. InDesign CS4 actually runs FASTER on the MBA than the older version of InDesign.
It sounds like it will do what you want. As to expansion capabilities, that is true -- there are no expansion capabilities other than what you get out of the box. But to be truly happy with the MBA, make sure you get the external superdrive as well so that you can install, burn, copy, etc. You will not be happy with the ridiculous "remote disc" over wireless...spare yourself the grief and get the superdrive as well. If you travel, you will also want to get the optional USB ethernet dongle for when you don't have wireless in hotels and and need to connect with wired ethernet. Also, if you travel, be sure to get a USB expander -- the new Belkin swivel-hub works well -- it's thin and fits in the usb opening -- you will need that if you go to an internet cafe for example and need a separate usb connection for both wireless and a printer (like at Kinkos).

• Flash & Photoshop CS4 Open Simultaneous Issue.

I am running Window 7 64 bit with 6 gb of RAM, two E5520 Xeons, two 10k raptors, one 320gb HD, and a ATI FirePro V5700. Brand New
machine and a Fresh install of windows.
Everytime Photoshop CS4 is open it will cause Flash Cs4 to Crash. I can work in Flash without any issues until Photoshop is opened. Flash will usually crash in under 5 min with Photoshop open. I have tested this over and over and it is Photoshop causing Flash to crash. Does not matter whether I am running the 32 or 64 bit version of Photoshop. I am starting to believe it is a memory issue but I am not sure or how to fix if it is.I have tested the memory and it passed all tests. This is really killing my production time. Help please...
Attached is the Error Log.

I just installed the latest Wacom Driver because I noticed clicking was causing the crashes when PS and Flash are open. So far I have not had Flash crash. I am keeping my finger crossed that the Wacom tablet was the issue and it is just classic driver issues with a new release of Windows. I will post back if it starts to crash again.

• Flash , photoshop working very slow!

Hi, as you see, I bought the latest imac intel... but after installing everything I need 4 design... I REALLY have problems with flash and adobe.. I used to have a G5 back where I lived, and never had a problem switching windows, or opening documents, .. now I can fall asleep while I wait... please can anybody tell me if the imac. (1.5gb) works for design, or if I have to go to the genious bar...
thanks..!
imac intel core duo 2   Mac OS X (10.4.7)   1.5 GB RAM

Microsoft's 2007 version of Office is coming, don't worry. Secondly, rosetta runs about 80% speed--according to Jobs. The only way to fix these problems now is by installing more RAM, because without enough RAM, the processor has to do a lot of emulating and translating. If you have an Intel Mac, 2gb of RAM would of course be best. This comes in at around 200 dollars, give or take depeding on your specifications. Everymac.com has the specifications of all macs, I believe. Alternatively, you could find the specs on Apple's support pages, or through system profiler.

• Hilfe :( Bei allen Adobe Programmen (Dreamweaver, Photoshop, Flash [ETC..]) kommt ein Fehler -1 :(((

Hallo liebe Community,
Gruß dhentzsc

One last thing... I have seen a post that states that future versions of CS are 64-bit.  That may only apply to some
RAM intensive apps like After Effects and Premiere and the optional 64-bit version of Photoshop.
Also, have you tried running the installer as Administrator?  That may solve the issue.

• Anyone have an issue where a font shows in the font list in Photoshop/Illustrator but not in Flash?

Anyone have an issue where a font shows in the font list in Photoshop/Illustrator but not in Flash?
I'm not 100% sure but i may have had flash open when installing, i then uninstalled the font and then reinstalled the font. I even tried going from an OTF font to a TTF font.
No luck.
Do I need to do some sort of font cache clearing?

I'm using Adobe CS6 Flash, Photoshop and Illustrator on MAC OSX

Yes. It's rare, but some fonts do not play well with Flash. Flash seems to have a more strict method of evaluating a font that can be imported. This is, in my opinion, probably because Flash needs to create a faux version of a font when it is imported. There may be some information that is either missing or not acceptable to Flash in a particular font and so Flash won't allow it to be used - even if you're not going to import that font.

• Mac OSX: Flash CS3 Font Install Issues

Hi,
I have a Mac Powerbook G4 with OS X installed and Adobe CS3.
I've installed a font. The font works in Photoshop and Illustrator
but not in Flash CS3. Why? I've put the font in the Library/Fonts
folder and the User/Fonts folder and it still doesn't show up in
Flash. Apparently this is a problem for a number of people see
another forum here:
MAC
OSX: Flash CS3 Font Install Issues Forum
Please let me know what to do to fix this. I need to be able
to work with the font in all three applications Flash, Photoshop
and Illustrator.

Hi davidd61713525,
Sorry for not getting back to you sooner.
Unfortunately, it looks like something is wrong with the file system and the installer can't see the root drive to install to.  A Google search returns numerous results affecting various products and the recurring theme is that something is wrong with the disk.  There are many recommendations from various sources, but nothing definitive.
Here's a similar thread over on the Apple forums:
Broken Installer Permissions | Apple Support Communities
And a similar older one:
http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1203509
I would try the following options:
Try using the PKG installer. This is used Mac SysAdmins to install Flash Player within their organization and uses a slightly different installer path, which may or may not work.
Some people have had success with disk and permissions repair some have not.  You can try running a disk and permissions repair.  After the disk and permissions repair is complete, reboot the system and try to install again using either the online installer (get.adobe.com/flashplayer) or the offline installer, posted at the bottom of the Installation problems | Flash Player | Mac page in the ‘Still having problems’ section.
If these options do not work, I'd reach out to Apple support to see if they have a suggestion.  If you do find a resolution to this, please let me know.  I'll be happy to share it with people that encounter the problem in the future.

• Insert Photoshop Web Gallery swf file into Dreamweaver

So i tried to take a shortcut, and created a flash photoshop
web gallery and placed the "gallery.swf" file into my html file in
Dreamweaver. However, it is showing a blank white screen (i'm
guessing it can't find the images?) but when I view it on my hard
drive, it is working fine, just not in dreamweaver or any browser,
even after I upload to my server. Any help would be GREATLY
appreciated!! I've also tried pasting the body html code from
"index.htm" that photoshop creates, as well as move my image files
to the root folder where the swf is, but that doesn't work either.
I have my scripts in the same directory, and not in
subfolders.

Kizat727 posted in macromedia.dreamweaver:
> and the link is
>
> www.micromediapubs2.com/dyers/portfolio.html
That page is very different from the code you posted and I
know nothing
about Geoff Stearns' FlashObject code.
For the above link, I see nothing in the source code that
attempts to
load a .swf file. However, it is linking to
AC_RunActiveCon.js file in
the wrong place:
GET /dyers/assets/flash/pages/AC_RunActiveContent.js HTTP/1.1
Referer:
http://www.micromediapubs2.com/dyers/portfolio.html
HTTP/1.x 404 Not Found
The file is actually here:
/dyers/Scripts/AC_RunActiveContent.js
So if you actually do have a page in the dyers/ folder that
links to a
.swf file, just make sure the link to the .js file is
correct.
Most likely, change this:
<script src="assets/flash/pages/AC_RunActiveContent.js"
type="text/javascript"></script>
to this:
<script src="Scripts/AC_RunActiveContent.js"
type="text/javascript"></script>

• Photoshop CS3 10.0.1 crashes on "save as"

Win XP service pak 2
Lots of ram and hdd
MasterSuite3
Been running for at least a year with no issues.
Today I was running Dreamweaver & Flash & Photoshop enough to thin my resources - ram
PS3 may have crashed during the day.
After working on many PS3 files (without crash) I am now unable to "save as"
Or open a new file and save it or open an image file modify it - so it will save as a .psd and the save window pops up for 1/2 sec and then
disappears and the system freezes as if waiting for the save window to close.
I am able to work on and save an existing .psd file???
Things I've tried:
Searching the forum and web - no luck
I've deleted my preferences .psp
Reinstalled PS3 from original disks
I've shrunk the workspace so when saving I could see if the save window was hiding behind.....
All to no avail.
Please help.
Has anyone seen similar?
I am able to run Photoshop CS1 and "save as".
Thank you
Cheers

THANK YOU Mylenium
That was most helpful
I'm not sure what did it but I followed these directions I found thanks to your suggestion:
I'm not sure what version they are referring to....
"1.photoshop preference-
2.general,history states to 1
3.click on 'next'
4.at the bottom of menu it says..."recent file list contains"
5.change to "0"
6. click ok "
I also turned off version cue - My version cue has never worked properly - or at least I get an error message on start-up of the pc
I enabled my 2nd hdd as scratch space and bumped up my ram resources
I deleted the psp file after the crashes started
If I ever figure out what made the difference I'll post it....
Cheers

• Photoshop not coming to front?

I couldn't find this problem with the search feature so bear with me if this has already been discussed.
Browsing in Bridge I double click a CR2 file and it opens in ACR. I click Open Image and Photoshop CS5 loads in the forefront and the image is opened inside. Everything is exactly like you would expect.
I close that image, click the taskbar Bridge button to go back to Bridge to do the same thing over again. However, this time the image gets loaded in Photoshop but Photoshop doesn't come to the front.
This doesn't happen if there is another image already open in Photoshop and it doesn't happen if I first minimize PS before switching to Bridge. It will also skip the behavior for one cycle if I click the Photoshop taskbar icon but it goes back to the odd behavior with the next image.
This behavior is only slightly annoying so I can live with it but is there a setting that might cause this behavior either in PS CS5 or in Windows 7 Pro?

Do you see a flashing Photoshop icon or button in the TaskBar if this occurs?
If so, Windows 7 is blocking Photoshop from popping to the front, possibly because it thinks Bridge is still current.
I don't use Bridge, so I can't tell you whether it's an improper interaction at that level, but I can say that sometimes video drivers can affect window behavior...  Check to see if your video card manufacturer has released a newer driver than the one you currently have.

• Flash CS3 IDE Scroll bar behavior

Hello,
This behavior was experienced on CS3 Flash, Photoshop,
Dreamweaver, at the same time. When I zoom in on anything, the
scroll bar forces the screen to the bottom (PSD) or to the far
right (FLA). If you attempt to pull the elevator box to the left,
it returns to the right, like a stubborn child. Next the program
crashes.
I've learned that the typical solution for Photoshop is to
reset the preferences, where you hold down the Shift+Ctrl+Alt. But
this does not have the same result with Flash nor Dreamweaver.
Is this a config problem? What can I do to correct it?
--GM

Thanks,
This method seems to work for Photoshop and Bridge only.
Do you know this will work for Flash? I've found no documentation in Adobe for refreshing preferences for Flash and Dreamweaver. When pressing Shift+Ctrl+Alt while launching Flash, I get a message about Blaze.
What is the file name I should search for to delete? I don't believe speed could be the issue, I'm very quick to press after hitting the prog start.
