Flash Playback Issues (atypical problem)

Equipment/Software:
- Late 2013 Macbook Pro Retina
- Mavericks 10.9
- Safari 7
- Flash 13
- All updates installed (OS X + software)
Playback Issue:
Flash videos begin normally, but then the CPU jumps to about 110% within the first 10 seconds or so. After the CPU jump, video playback begins to stutter severely, making the content unwatchable. Audio playback doesn't appear to be affected. When the CPU jumps and the video begins to stutter, the webpage often freezes and I have to quit Flash via Activity Monitor to regain control (i.e., scrolling, clicking, etc.). This happens across browsers (Safari, Firefox, Chrome), although I use Safari almost exclusively.
This only affects some Flash videos, but not all of them. I have no idea why. The problematic videos play fine on my desktop PC, so it's not a problem with the website.
Perhaps this is a second problem, but I'm also unable to watch some Flash-based streams in fullscreen mode. When I click fullscreen, the video size remains the same, but it moves to the top-left corner of the screen while everything else turns to white. Again, on my desktop PC, I do not experience this issue at all; the exact same stream will adjust to fullscreen mode without issue. I have a 27" monitor on my desktop PC and a retina screen on my Macbook Pro.
Attempted Solutions (Failed):
- Uninstalling/reinstalling Flash dozens of times
- Reset Safari
- Clear PRAM
- Repair Disk Permissions
- Praying to non-existent deity
Something so simple effectively renders 70% of the internet useless. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello jferreir,
It sounds like you are unable to watch streaming flash based video in Safari despite some great troubleshooting. I would next use the troubleshooting from the following article to help resolve the issue:
Safari: Unsupported third-party add-ons may cause Safari to unexpectedly quit or have performance issues

  • Macbook Pro Retina 15" Flash playback issues

    Hi,
I recently upgraded from my iMac to a 15" Macbook Pro Retina and although I am overall happy with the decision I am having problems with online video playback using Adobe Flash Player.
The videos jitter and stutter at intervals throughout watching and run playback performance.
I have looked into this issue heavily, putting it down to a hardware fault initially. However all of my tests have brought me back to the utilisation of flash player and my GPU.
    Tests I have run.
I have tried the flash player in Safari, Firefox and Chrome (disabling pepper and using just the flash player downloaded)
I have uninstalled flash and reinstalled
I have reset my Mac's SMC and PRAM to ensure that there are not hardware errors
I have changed the GPU swapping on my computer to not use the lighter graphics card and instead make full use of the 1GB Nvidia graphics card
My computer is running the most up to date of all aspects associated with the errors
I have changed the settings of flash player to use and not use hardware acceleration
I haven't seen any other problems on my mac with playback - which is why is leads me to believe that this problem is more aimed at flash player on my system, than the actual system itself.
Has anyone else had these problems on a similar machine? If so are there any fixes? Or am I just going to have to hang fire for bug fixes?
The spec of my computer can be found at this link - as Macbooks can't be changed its literally as spec-ed on this page!

    Any input would be appreciated

No they do not. In fact just the opposite. Some with LG displays and ghosting have been told by Apple it is normal and all screens do it. When in fact they do not.
Buy Applecare extended warranty. Otherwise when your 1 year standard warranty runs out and you have any problems with that retina you might as well throw it away. The cost to fix that unit, should a problem of any type become apparent, will be close to buying a new unit. All the parts are either soldered to the logic, Mother, board or glued into the aluminum case parts. The few parts that aren't are the logic board itself, the WiFi/Bluetooth daughter card, the fans & heatsink system and the proprietary SSD that plugs into a socket on the logic board.
The screen is glued into the case lid and can not be changed without replacing the complete lid along with the WiFi/BT antennas, the web cam and of course the aluminum shell.

  • Adobe FLash Player issues video playback green screen

My laptop is a week old. I cannot get videos to properly play especially in Facebook. I also had trouble with you tube until I opened internet options... advanced.. and checked the first item that deals with software acceleration. Even after this Facebook videos continue to fail. This only cures the You Tube Videos, Facebook videos still do not play. Audio is there but total green screen.
I have seen discussions about right clicking the video that wont play then uncheck "Enable Hardware Acceleration".  When I am in Facebook on a video that fails I right click and that option is not available in the box that pops up.If the video that fails is from you tube. I can select you tube in the control bar for the video and it plays fine. Non you tube videos do not play at all in Facebook.
I decided to try Chrome. It had the same playback issues as IE except the video playback screen stayed black - but when I right clicked on the video the "enable Hardware acceleration"   choice was there, I unchecked this and videos now play on Facebook using Chrome.
I prefer IE and want to fix the issue. Seems to me its Adobe since I do not have the Enable Hardware acceleration choice using IE.
Anyone ever heard of this? At one point I went to Control panel to delete all history from Flash player and the icon is listed as 32 bit. my OS is 64 bit. Is this an issue?
This is driving me nuts. Any help would be appreciated. "Just use Chrome" is not the response I am looking for. I want Adobe to work in IE

Found a fix it appears. I found a page that said update adobe flash to windows 8.1. There was a link there.
Installed that update and all appears to be working now.
Funny thing is it appears this HP laptop came with a version of Windows that was 8.1 but the flash player version was still for Windows 8. All testing on adobe pages made it appear as if the flash player was installed correctly.
    Thank you for the response

  • WINDOWS VISTA ITUNES VIDEO PLAYBACK ISSUE!!!!!! AAHHHHHHH!!! HELP!!!!!!!!!!

I have recently bought and downloaded 3 of the Original Star Trek Tv Shows from Itunes. When I try and play one of them, they don't work. The Screen comes up, the show starts, then stops. hi slideaway!
my computer has a right proper meltdown, switching itself off and restarting to a "Windows has recovered from a serious error" sort of message.
good lord. are you getting any sort of blue screen? if so, what numerical and text codes are you getting with it? (ie 0x[zeros/letters/numbers] CAPSANDUNDERSCORES)
here's a reference on the sorts of things i'm asking about:
    Troubleshooting Windows Stop Messages
if you're not seeing a blue screen (or just a flash of one), we can use this technique to make hidden blue screens appear for us:
    1) Open your system control panel (Start->Control Panels->System).
    2) Select the "Advanced" tab.
    3) Click the "Startup and Recover" section's "Settings" button
    4) Verify that under "System Failure" the "Automatically restart" checkbox is not checked.

  • Flash plugin downloading location problem

Well, like alot of people - I've had problems ever since I
installed Flash player 9. I tried out different browsers, but none
would work, only on safari. I later found out why my videos got
stuck and the browser died having me to restart for it to function
properly. There is a new plug in that has been made for Firefox 2.0
(I'm not sure about the other browsers, since I've decided to stick
    with 2.0)
    This is the site:
    http://kb.mozillazine.org/Flash
    Note this paragraph:
    quote:
Starting with Flash 9.0.r45 the Flash plugin installer for
Firefox and other Mozilla-based browsers no longer copies files to
the browser plugins folder and, instead, adds the needed plugin
files NPSWF32.dll flashplayer.xpt and other related files to the
C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\Macromed\Flash folder and adds a Windows
registry entry that enables each browser to detect Flash via plugin
    scanning using a PLID scan
Hope that should solve your problems.
Well anyway, my problem is, I did the above thing^ but since
I had Opera installed before, whenever I uninstall and re-install
Flash, it always gets stored in the opera folder even though Its
    deleted.
This is what happens when i install the plugin:
    http://i110.photobucket.com/albums/n107/uboatfanatic/oo.jpg
Can someone tell me how I can change the location to Firefox?
    thanks alot.

  • Video Playback ISSUE WITH VISTA!!!!  NEEDED HELP BADLY!!!!!!!

I have recently bought and downloaded 3 of the Original Star Trek Tv Shows from Itunes. When I try and play one of them, they don't work. The Screen comes up, the show starts, then stops. -Nick.

Do you have a SATA hard drive? I have the same problem you describe when trying to play videos in iTunes. Do the previews of music videos on the iTunes web site play OK? If they do you probably have the same problem with SATA HD and iTunes incompatibility. Not sure who is going to fix that problem and when. I have found one fix that worked for me. Copy your video(s) to a flash drive and then play them from there. It's a workaround and you shouldn't have to do it but it does allow you to watch the videos.

  • Flash player causes real problems on Youtube

Flash player causes real problems on Youtube site.
I don't really know if it's a Flash Player problem or a Youtube one but Youtube used to work fine back in like 3-4 months ago, now it doesn't anymore.
The issues I encounter with Flash player on Youtube are as follows:
First issue is the fact that after the video completely loads or it loads a big part of it then I click on the seek bar to jump at a specific time that has been already downloaded by the Flash player the video starts loading again from that point on like it didn't actually downloaded that part before. This issue causes big bandwith use since it downloads many many times the same portions of the clip that it has already loaded before dozens of time. If I play a 3 min music clip and click replay or point on the seek bar at the begining of the clip to play it again it loads/downloads the clip again and again and again. If the video clip has over 1 hour then I click play it might entirely load into the player in a few minutes then I click on the seek bar to skip at a certain point it starts loading again from that point on. This is the most anoying thing I encounter with Youtube lately.
Second issue is the fact that if I click on the seek bar of the player to skip to a specific time most of the time the playback does not start from that point on but it skips back to the last point where it was so I must click several times or keep the mouse button pressed for a long time on the same point in order to play from that place on. This one is again very anoying.
Third issue is that after the video starts playing in 360p it automatically changes to 720p after a minute or so even if I had checked this setting "I have a slow connection. Never play higher-quality video" in Youtube Playback Settings. I cleared the cookies and chosed several times the same "I have a slow connection. Never play higher-quality video" setting in Youtube Playback Settings but it just doesn't keep the settings on. This one is again very anoying since my computer can't handle well 720p.
I have reinstalled Win XP SP3 and even installed Win 7 SP1 tried several versions of Flash Player and several versions of Firefox, Chrome and Opera but the same issues occur everytime.
I haven't encounter any of these issues before like 3-4 months ago.

I have had problems trying to watch videos on youtube for the past couple of years. It's been almost unbearable, even if I set the resolution to 144kb! Then a few days ago, I went to youtube and couldn't watch at all. There was an error showing that my Flashplayer was out of date, and then a link to Firefox to get the right update. I did that two times to no avail. I had just installed the newest version of Flash Player as of November 2014, yet this error kept popping up. Finally, out of utter frustration, I did like you did, and uninstalled everything related to Adobe Flash. Then I went to youtube, just to see how bad the result would be, and suddenly videos started playing smoother, at higher resolution, and with faster buffering to start out.  Sure, there are some videos that I can't play, and the newest iTunes seemed to have issues without having Flash, but videos aren't frustrating me like they had been on youtube.
So, yeah, I know what you're saying. I had the same solution work for me. Cheers.

  • DVD playback issues

Hello all, have some questions I hope I can get answered.
I have been burning a number of bad discs lately, both out of DVDSP and out of Toast. I am running DVDSP 4.0.3 and Toast 6.1.1 on my G5 Dual 2 Ghz running 10.4.4.
What is happening is that quite often, the last chapter of the DVD will have playback issues in my set top DVD player where the picture freezes or it looks ike the color is breaking apart (I don't know the technical term for this).
It doesn't do it on every disc though.
I am using TDK DVD-R 8x and Memorex DVD-R 8x media and previously have never had a problem with either.
At first I thought I was starting to have a Memorex issue as it seemed to happen only on Memorex discs, but then it started on the TDK as well.
I have emptied the cache, run disk utility and disk warrior.
I burned one disc on memorex media that played fine in my computer, but not in my DVD player (a Sony), but DID play fine in another Sony DVD player.
I then burned the same disc on TDK media though, and it not only didn't play on my DVD player, it didn't play on my computer either, freezing up in the last chapter as always.
My drive is the SONY DVD RW DW-U21A, which I have considered replacing as 8x media is next to impossible to find and I'd like dual layer support.
my old burned discs play fine in my DVD player and SOME of the new ones I burn do too, but a lot of them do not. I don't think I have that many bad discs in the spindle.
Could BOTH my burner and DVD player be shot?
Anyone have any problems like this?
In a separate question, what is the Pioneer drive of choice to do 16x DVDs and also have the dual layer support and is it currently supported under Tiger or do I have to flash it on a PC? (I don't have a PC to do this on). I have heard the Pioneer ismuch better than the Sony.
    Any help would be appreciated

For the stuff in DVDSP, it's happend on a number of projects, none of them longer than 90 minutes. Generally the target bit rate has been anywhere from 6.5-7.5 and the max is 8. I use ac3 audio at 192.
I've had issues burning disk images in toast though too with the same problem. They will sometimes play and sometimes not play. Once in a while I understand as you get bad discs, but this is like 40% of the time now.

  • IPhone 5 music playback issues (after iOS 8 upgrade)

    Hi,
After upgrading my iPhone 5 to iOS 8 I have had many playback issues with my Music. Songs randomly skipping or stopping without even doing anything are some of the issues. Also sometimes when I am listening to a song it would fast forward the music.
P.S. I don't sync my music, I just manually add content.
Is there any way I can fix this problem?
    Thanks
    L

My wife had something like this happen with her iPad. The problem was that the device had not been synced and so some file were not loaded on the device.
The way to correct the problem is to plug the device into the computer and tell it to sync.

  • Stuttering flv playback issue- need help asap

We need help asap. Have a project is due to deliver today (5/14).
We have a video to go on a dvd-rom, live action with Motion Graphics behind.
When output is done thru Projector the Motion Graphics stutter as they scroll.
    Here is more technical info:
    Stuttering flv playback issue:
Prores 422 timeline 29.97fps 1280x720 output from fcp using current settings.
Mov file is approx 7gb, plays relatively smooth on a mac pro with no raid.
Frame by frame analysis shows all frames are present with no jumps tears or skips.
Tried several output paths, programs and settings to create a smooth flv file to no avail.
We adjusted data rates from 2k, 3.5k, 4k and 8k, no luck
We adjusted keyframe rates from low to all frames, no luck.
We tried cs3 flash encoder, cs5 media encoder, squeeze ect, same results.
Playback in the flash projector seems to choke slightly no matter what we do.
Have also posted in the Director Forum.
    Any help much appreciated!

Here are a few ideas off the top of my head:
Try playing the file using a different xtra, sometimes different ones will work better.  If you have Director 11.5, there is a native flv playback xtra.
You can build a player easily in Flash using the flvPlayback component, then bring that into Director as a swf.
Once you have the video in Director, try making the member Direct To Stage (DTS).  If it is already DTS, try making it not DTS.
Make sure the video is not transparent, and nothing in Director overlaps the video... in fact, when the video is playing, nothing should be moving at all, and try to keep the amount of code that is running to a minimum.
Try lowering your video's data rate further or try using a different codec.
Using VBR (Variable Bit Rate) compression often makes the video appear to play smoother.
Try compressing the flv with different software.  FFMpeg, for example, is free and does a very good job, often better than the Flash Video Encoder that comes with Flash/Creative Suite.

  • Weird Playback Issue...

I have this weird playback issue with iTunes for Windows. I am using Vista and I think the cause of the problem is that I am using MacDrive to access my OS X partition. But anyways, on with the problem. So the problem is that when I play a song, the song will play for like 5 seconds and then it will just go the next song. This song will do the same thing, and so-on and so-forth. Then, during this time, my Mac formatted hard drive is unavailable while iTunes is running. In "My Computer" the drive is there, but when I try to open it, Explorer freezes. Then, when I exit iTunes, it doesn't really exit. It still shows up in the task manager and when I try to end the process, it just plain doesn't end. I have to restart my computer to gain full use of it again. After the restart I can access my Mac disks, but once I start iTunes and try to play a song, I get the same thing again. And in case thats not weird enough, I can play the MP3's in WMP fine, and they will also play in iTunes fine if I actually open them, rather than just select them from my library. If I go to file open and select a song on my Mac drive, it will play fine, but then once I try to play a song from my library, I get caught in that vicious cycle. Anyone else had this problem or anything? Thanks. Also, is there an alternative program to Mac Drive that will allow me to read HFS partitions?

Post more about your situation... what format is the video, and where are you storing the video files? i.e., on a disk other than your startup disk? The adobe install is likely not the problem... I run adobe software along side FCS on about 75 workstations, and don't see issues like you describe.
Wavy? not accurate? what are you talking about?

  • Playback Issues with multiple framerates and Blackmagic Decklink 4K Extreme

I recently swapped by AJA Kona Card for a Blackmagic Decklink 4K Extreme in order to get external monitoring in DaVinci Resolve.
I'm working in a 1080p 23.976 project that includes some 29.97 SD and HD footage. When loading this 29.97fps footage into my source footage, I periodically encounter frozen playback (The play triangle in my toolbar becomes a square symbol and remains that way). From there I am unable to playback any footage in any timeline, and requires a full system shutdown to return to normal! The problem is seemingly intermitent, with successful playback happening sometimes.
The 29.97 footage was DVCPRO, I attempted to transcode to Prores to troubleshoot. No dice. I believe it to be an issue related to the Decklink's inability to handle multiple framerates on-the-fly but wanted to submit here, too. I've also experienced intermittent sync delays on my broadcast monitor.
    Decklink Driver 10.0
    Premiere CC 7.2.1
Mac OSX 10.9.2 (same problem pre-mavericks)

    Hi Andy,
You should not have any issues with Blackmagic handling multiple formats on the fly. However, I believe the frozen playback issues your describing is related to the Desktop Video 10 driver. I suggest rolling back to 9.3.3 for the time being. Blackmagic is looking into this issue now.

  • ITunes 10.6/Quicktime 7 1080p playback issue/frame skipping

I have a playback issue with the 1080p videos on the recent version of iTunes - 10.6. I also tried playing the same videos on Quicktime where I was able to find that the videos were playing at around 20fps as opposed to their normal rate - 24fps~25fps.
I seem to barely meet the 1080p playback requirements on iTunes, but I know that I'm able to watch 1080p videos on Window Media Player(WMP) 12 without any issues. Aside from WMP, I'm able to watch 1080p videos on Youtube whenever hardware acceleration is enabled. I assume that WMP utilizes hardware acceleration as well.
The playback issue/frame skipping is probably caused by iTunes 10.6 not using hardware acceleration.
