Flash Player 10/Yahoo e-mail attachments

Is anyone else having problems opening e-mail attachments for
Yahoo mail since installing Flash 10? Does anyone have a fix for
this problem? The problem happens in both IE and Firefox. I am
thinking that it is a Yahoo problem because when I forwarded the
same e-mail to my Gmail account I was able to open it without a
problem.

I didn't think yahoo used any Flash in their standard mail
client (other than for the ads). But they also have a paid-option
mail client called 'Mail Plus' that I've never seen.
I haven't been able to repro any problems with attachments
and the standard mail client.
So I don't see it. However, I have an internal discussion
started with yahoo and I'll mention it so they can have somebody
test.

  • With Yahoo! Mail attachments are put together in zip format I can't open, but when I switch to Internet Explorer these same attachments open easily as Word or PDF files; how cn I fix?

Two recent emails (Yahoo! Mail) each contained multiple attachments which were presented to me as zip files which were in a format that my computer could neither open or convert to files I could open. One was two Word documents; the other was five one-page PDFs. I tried with Firefox on two different computers with same results. When I switched to Internet Explorer, I was able to open the attachments each as separate Word or PDF files, with no trouble. Am I doing something wrong?

instead of writing such an essay, you could have explained better what you tried to do to get them.

I have never had trouble opening attachments in Yahoo mail only since updating Firefox. They open fine when using IE

I am using a MacBook Pro running OS 10.6.8 and Safari 5.1.7. My ISP is Frontier and I use their web interface to do my email. Last week, it started that I can't send attachments. I get the message:

Not sure why, but our usually-reliable server goofed-up while sending this message. Please try again.
Frontier tech support is unable to help me.

  • PLEASE HELP!! Flash Player failure in Yahoo Email Chat

    Dear Forum,
Could somebody explain why the latest version of Flash Player
    makes Yahoo Email chat unusable?
    - Today (October 17, 2008) I uninstalled the old version of
Flash Player and Adobe Shockwave, rebooted and installed the latest
    version directly from Adobe's website.
    - Yahoo Email chat function returns this message 'Your
browser must have Flash 9.0 or higher installed to load the chat
    feature.'
    - Control Panel - Add/Remove Programs shows 'Adobe Flash
Player 10 Plugin (10.0.12.36), Adobe Shockwave Player 11 installed.
I don't understand why this Yahoo message is appearing when I
    have version 10 installed?
    Thanks in advance,
    Peter.
PS: Please note that I also have 'Adobe Flash Player 9
ActiveX' installed as I use Firefox 3.0.3 on a Windows XP SP3
system and sometimes some website components don't function without
    this ActiveX software.
Please also note I understand the difference between Flash
Player and Shockwave Player and the fact they are two separate
things. As mentioned I have the latest versions of both programs
    installed.

I suspect this is a Yahoo problem. They'll need to update
their Flash Plaeyr detection. I wrote about it yesterday in several
threads on this forum, and in my blog at
    http://bentimagemedia.com/.
You should contact them immediately and let them know.
I ran a quick test and I had no problem using chat in FireFox
with the FP10 plugin. It only failed when I tried it in IE6 with
the FP10 ActiveX control (see below). Make a note of this when you
    contact yahoo.
In the meantime, I'll see if we have any connections at yahoo
that we can ping on our side..
<<PS: Please note that I also have 'Adobe Flash Player
9 ActiveX' installed as I use Firefox 3.0.3 on a Windows XP SP3

    this ActiveX software.>>
This is incorrect. The Flash Player ActiveX control is only
used with IE Windows. All other browsers and platforms use the
    Flash Player plugin.

  • Attempting to open e-mail attachments causes Openoffice to crash

I have reset Firefox to default settings, uninstalled and reloaded Openoffice. Openoffice then works ok until I attempt to open an e-mail attachment, which causes it to crash. It then does not respond to any commands, nor is anything visible.

Does it work correctly if, instead of choosing Open right away, you choose Save and then open from disk? (Assuming you get the Open/Save/Cancel dialog)
Is the problem with Yahoo! mail attachments?

  • Adobe flash player security blocking

The adobe flash player security  is blocking mail with the message /about/srcdoc is trying to communicate with this interner-enabled location  static.adsafeprotected.com
How do I get rid of this?

    IanGCou wrote:
How much of a risk is it unblocking?
If you select a single site to allow, not much, as long as it's a trusted site and you're careful about what you open there (in this case it being mail, you need to use your own discretion). If you set Flash Player to allow ALL sites, then you may be opening yourself up to anything from spyware to outright viruses.

  • Help installing flash player

  • I cannot use the top level of tabs on my yahoo mail with a Flash Player add on

yahoo mail has updated their home page. The top line of tabs: contacts etc does not work. The curser does not change to a hand. The email inbox seems to work OK. If I uninstall a Flash Player add- on, the yahoo mail works normally. This Flash Player add- on was recently installed to enable me to view some videos. Do I really need that Flash Player add-on?

That problem can be caused by the Yahoo! Toolbar that extents too much downwards and covers the top part of the browser window and thus makes links in that part of the screen not clickable.

  • I have installed flash player 17.0.0.134 and now cant open any e-mail attachments. Can anyone help?

I have installed flash player version 17.0.0.134 for mac and now I cant open any e-mail attachments. I have been through the checks and it is installed correctly. Can anyone help? panda

I don't know how this works on a Mac; on Windows you need the Flash Player Projector (not the plugin) to view stand-alone SWF files: https://www.adobe.com/support/flashplayer/downloads.html

  • Adobe Flash Player has stopped a potentially unsafe operation - using Yahoo Mail

For months I have been getting this error message when using Yahoo mail. Going into the control panel and adding the domain doesn't fix the problem. In fact, Flash Player seems to just ignore any domains I add there (I often get multiple "potentially unsafe" messages as Yahoo loads). Some other web sites also cause this same problem-- for example, YouTube.
I am completely frustrated by this behavior. If there is an open source substitute for Flash Player, I'd be interested to know about it. I'm tired of all these error messages and I'm also tired of constantly having to update Flash Player, which seems to be happening on a weekly basis now. It seems to me that Flash Player has outlived its usefulness and should be done away with because it is way more trouble than it is worth. It is buggy software.

The Flash Global Security Settings Panel
    http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager04.htm l
is NOT for remote sites, it's for Flash files on YOUR machine that are attempting to connect with Internet loacations.
Add YOUR FILE to the "edit locations" dialog box.
Or, test YOUR file by uploading to a Web server... this security warning will NOT kick in... it's only when testing a Flash file from your local machine that this happens.

  • Safari 5 crashes with Yahoo Mail attachments

I just updated to Safari 5 and it crashes when I try to send a Yahoo email with attachment. My two other email accounts accept attachments with Safari but when I try to attach them in Yahoo, Safari freezes. Force Quit does not show that Safari is not responding but that's the only way I can close it. The type of file attached makes no difference -- text document, video or photo. Yahoo attachments work normally with Chrome. The other changes I made when updating Safari were those recommended in the June 5 Adobe security bulletin for Reader, Acrobat and Flash Player: I deleted the authplay.dll file in Reader/Acrobat and installed the 10.1 Release Candidate for Flash Player. (Also installed the 1.0 firmware update for the 27 inch display which should be irrelevant.) Yahoo Help only gives the duuuuh answer "Change browsers." Any suggestions?

Having same problem, so sent an email to Yahoo Mail Premium Customer Care. Here is their response (we should all be sending our troubles to Apple, as well as to Yahoo, since this is obviously a problem with SAFARI -- and, so far, Yahoo! does not seem to know this fact):

  • Firefox crashes whenever a Flash video advertisement opens in Yahoo! Mail. No virus detected. Incompatability?

Whenever I access Yahoo! Mail, the page opens normally. When the Flash Video advertisement starts, about halfway through or sooner, it stops and the entire window freezes. I wait up to two minutes and still nothing happens. I end up having to use Cntrl+Alt+Delete to force it to shut down. After repeating the process several times, I reinstall the most recent version of Adobe Flash Player and try again. No change. Virus scan shows green across the board. I don't know what to do at this point.
