Flash Player 11.5 breaking webcam on MacBook Pro 15 Retina

We're seeing the new flash player version 11.5.31.2 on MacBook Pro 15 Retina is breaking the user's webcam. The camera video aspect ratio is sqeazed and the audio it's sending to others is broken making robot like muffled sounds.
This is only happening with FP 11.5 running on MacBook Pro 15 Retina. It works fine in any other version of flash.
To simulate the problem, using a MacBookPro-15-Retina and FP11.5: Open a meetings.io room http://m1.io/ab25s6aKiWe and see if your webcam is working properly.
If you try this room on FP version 11.5 MacBook Pro 15 Retina you'll see your video being squashed and if someone else joins you they should be hearing your audio coming in very badly.
Try it on any other FP version and it should work fine.
Are the rest of you seeing this and is this happening on other systems?

I have the same audio issue, robotic audio distortion on the receiving end when broadcasting from a Mac using flash 11.5.
The issue is not limited to one particular MacBook model, we've seen in in different MacBook models, only when using FP 11.5,
11.4 is fine
The same version of FP (11.5) does not give you any problems in Windows machines
Any  idea when would this be fixed?

Hi, Check in the plugins for Shockwave Flash plugin and make sure it's Enabled. Also any app like Click-to-Flash or other like apps will keep Flash content blocked, so check that also.

  • Flash player won't install on my Macbook Pro OSX version 10.9.2... help?

I can download the installer and even get flash about 50% downloaded before it tells me to close safari. When I closes safari it pops up with the same error massage as if i didn't close it. I made sure my security setting will allow add-ons and termed to start over several times, What am I doing wrong?

    Hiya...
Has same problem... tried closing all Safari windows but it wouldn't work...
Realised that you have to "Quit Safari" instead of just closing all the safari windows... and the installer start to download again and ta-da... my adobe flash player is installed!
    Hope this helps....

  • Macbook Pro Retina Display and Flash Player major issues

    Hello,
Apple has recently released Macbook Pro's with Retina displays.
I have tested my Flash application on the new laptop, and this is what I observe:
    1. My Flex SDK Flash application looks blurry and strange when I try to check it out from any Macbook Pro with Retina display, while looking sharp and OK from all other machines.
On this screenshot you can sort of see the issue:
    http://i.imgur.com/UXHd4.png
(Expand the image to the actual size, and compare the Flex SDK components with browser labels. Browser labels look crisp, Flex SDK components look a little bit blurry.)
    2. It is no longer possible to click on anything in Flash Player Dialogs, such as:
    * Flash Player Settings
    * Webcam or microphone allow/deny dialog
    * All other dialogs (peer-to-peer access, etc)
This issue makes it impossible to use video chat applications on Macbook Pro Retina's because users can't click allow/deny when requested for audio/video access.
I have submitted reports about this to Adobe BugBase here:
    https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3224151
    https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3224147
    Please fix these issues.
    Andrey

@nvhdab - If you haven't already, can you please add a bug on your issue over at bugbase.adobe.com  If it's the same as 3224151 then it sounds like it's going to be fixed soon.  I'm trying to find out exactly when, but it might be in the 11.7 release now (4/2/2013 - Flash Player 11.7.700.170 Beta)
@scottclayton - I'm going to ask the team to revisit the click issue.  I don't have a retina display so I can't confirm the issue.  Thank you though for putting up the workaround.

  • Can the flash storage hard drives in the brand new 15inch Macbook Pro Retina Display laptops (10.22.13) be upgraded/replaced in the future?

Can the flash storage hard drives in the brand new Macbook Pro Retina Display laptops that were just released a few days ago (10.22.13) be upgraded/replaced in the future?  I will need more than the basic 256GB for sample libraries using music software, among other things, but currently larger flash drives from Apple are too expensive.  I ask because I'm in the process of buying one of the new 15inch Macbook Pro Retina Display laptops right now (or at least right after I get an answer to this question).
I saw in the Mac store when I started looking at the build options for ordering the Macbook Pro that under Memory it said the memory was built into the computer and therefore could not ever be replaced or upgraded in the future.  So I was wondering if something similiar might be the case with the flash storage drives even though the same wasn't written under the hard drive options?  If these flash drives can be replaced in the future then I would just purchase the starting 256GB drive and suffer through using connected external hard drives, as unwieldy as that would be, until there were potential replacement flash drives with larger storage capacties available on the market or through Apple for more reasonable prices.  But if the hard drives in these laptops can't be replaced/upgraded I would go for the 500GB drive option (even though paying an additional $300, before taxes, for just 244GBs more storage space is absolutely outrageous no matter how great flash drives are with their read/write speeds, no moving parts to break, and lighter weight/thinner builds allowing for an overall thinner laptop).  I would even go for the larger 1TB option, which is really what I need, except that costs an additional $700 which is more than enough to buy me a new 50inch, HD, flatscreen TV from a reputable brand if I were so inclined!  (And yes, I understand the youth of the technology, current limits to flash drive capacities, and the reason for the high prices.  I know I'm not getting bilked...)
So yeah, does anybody have an answer to this question?  Can the flash hard drives in the new Macbook Pro Retina Display laptops, just released, be upgraded/replaced in the future?  Any answers are greatly appreciated and will save me some much needed cash on my purchase of one of these laptops!  And I should also ask, if so, can they be replaced by the laptop owner with the normal toolset through the normal, easily done methods of hard drive replacement in laptops that has been common, or would I have to bring the laptop to a Apple technician?
    Thanks everybody!

The modules are proprietary. They are installed in a slot secured with a tiny screw.
macsales.com has been working on providing aftermarket modules for the older models that were on the SATA Bus.
These newer ones are likley directly on the PCIe Bus. That will take some time to develop.

  • Macbook Pro Retina 15" Flash playback issues

    Hi,
I recently upgraded from my iMac to a 15" Macbook Pro Retina and although I am overall happy with the decision I am having problems with online video playback using Adobe Flash Player.
The videos jitter and stutter at intervals throughout watching and run playback performance.
I have looked into this issue heavily, putting it down to a hardware fault initially. However all of my tests have brought me back to the utilisation of flash player and my GPU.
    Tests I have run.
I have tried the flash player in Safari, Firefox and Chrome (disabling pepper and using just the flash player downloaded)
I have uninstalled flash and reinstalled
I have reset my Mac's SMC and PRAM to ensure that there are not hardware errors
I have changed the GPU swapping on my computer to not use the lighter graphics card and instead make full use of the 1GB Nvidia graphics card
My computer is running the most up to date of all aspects associated with the errors
I have changed the settings of flash player to use and not use hardware acceleration
I haven't seen any other problems on my mac with playback - which is why is leads me to believe that this problem is more aimed at flash player on my system, than the actual system itself.
Has anyone else had these problems on a similar machine? If so are there any fixes? Or am I just going to have to hang fire for bug fixes?
The spec of my computer can be found at this link - as Macbooks can't be changed its literally as spec-ed on this page!
    http://store.apple.com/uk/configure/ME664B/A?
    Any input would be appreciated
    Tim

No they do not. In fact just the opposite. Some with LG displays and ghosting have been told by Apple it is normal and all screens do it. When in fact they do not.
Buy Applecare extended warranty. Otherwise when your 1 year standard warranty runs out and you have any problems with that retina you might as well throw it away. The cost to fix that unit, should a problem of any type become apparent, will be close to buying a new unit. All the parts are either soldered to the logic, Mother, board or glued into the aluminum case parts. The few parts that aren't are the logic board itself, the WiFi/Bluetooth daughter card, the fans & heatsink system and the proprietary SSD that plugs into a socket on the logic board.
The screen is glued into the case lid and can not be changed without replacing the complete lid along with the WiFi/BT antennas, the web cam and of course the aluminum shell.

  • When I turn on or restart my Macbook Pro Retina 15", my entire screen flashes completely bright yellow for a few seconds and then it goes to the normal Welcome screen.  How do I fix this??

    Hi Everyone,
This problem just started today.  When I turn on or restart my Macbook Pro Retina 15" (Mid 2012 version), my screen is light gray like normal, and then after a few seconds my entire screen flashes completely bright yellow for a few seconds, and then it goes to the normal Welcome screen (where I choose to login as myself or a guest user).  This suddenly started today and has not stopped since.  This keeps happening every single time I turn on or restart my computer.
Yesterday I installed all the Mavericks and other updates that were available in the App Store, so I'm wondering if this is related to that since this never happened prior to my doing those updates yesterday.  When I first installed the new OS X Mavericks (10.9.3) update, it went through the whole installation process (took about 10 minutes), and then during the installation I got an error message saying that it couldn't verify my iTunes application that was on my laptop, and then my laptop finished installing the updates.  Then once my laptop restarted, the App Store "Updates" section said that I had to do the whole OS X Mavericks (10.9.3) and iTunes (Version 11.2) updates all over again.  So my laptop did the whole installation again (took about 10 minutes, but this time I didn't get that "iTunes error message" during the installation process).
Now, when I go to the App Store "Updates" section, it says the following under "Updates Installed in the Last 30 days":
-Digital Camera RAW Compatibility Update (Version 5.05) installed May 15, 2014
    -OS X Update (Version 10.9.3) installed May 15, 2014
    -iTunes (Version 11.2) installed May 15, 2014
    -OS X Update (Version 10.9.3) installed May 15, 2014
    -iTunes (Version 11.2) installed May 15, 2014
    -Security Update 2014-002 (Version 1.0) installed April 22, 2014
I'm wondering if this flashing bright yellow screen upon bootup is related to the fact that my laptop installed the OS X Update and the iTunes Update two times each?  Or is this new problem totally unrelated?  It's just that this problem started a day after these 2 updates were installed twice.
My Macbook Pro Retina 15" (Mid 2012 version) is otherwise working fine at least as of now.  The only issue so far is this flashing bright yellow screen every time I turn on or restart my computer.
If anyone could please help me fix this so that my bootup screen doesn't flash completely bright yellow anymore, I would be forever grateful!
Thank you so much for reading this and for any help you can provide.
    hope everyone is well,
    Elaine

    Hey everyone in Apple world!
I figured out how to fix the flashing yellow screen problem that I've been having on my MBP!  Yessssss!!!
I found this super handy website with the golden answer: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1379
I followed the instructions on this page and here's what I did:
    Resetting NVRAM / PRAM
    Shut down your Mac.
Locate the following keys on the keyboard: Command (⌘), Option, P, and R. You will need to hold these keys down simultaneously in step 4.
    Turn on the computer.
Press and hold the Command-Option-P-R keys before the gray screen appears.
Hold the keys down until the computer restarts and you hear the startup sound for the second time.
    Release the keys.
I went through the 6 steps above twice, just to make sure I got rid of whatever stuff was holding up my bootup process.  Since I did that, my MBP boots up just like normal.  No flashing yellow screen anymore!!
(Note that I arrived at this solution when I first saw this page: http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2570?viewlocale=en_US)
Let me know if this works for you!

  • 4GB memory on new MacBook Pro Retina 13 with 2.4GHz dual core i5 processor &128GB flash storage

    Hello,
I'm completely new to the mac world but I'm fed up with pc's and all the insanity with processor problems, viruses, etc. I'm seriously looking at replacing my HP laptop with the new MacBook Pro Retina 13 with 2.4GHz dual core i5 processor, 4GB memory (RAM) & 128GB flash storage, OS X Mavericks (not sure which version). My concern is whether this will be reliably & consistantly fast & smooth both in desktop apps & internet use. I don't need it to do somersaults or anything too advanced. I would mostly be using Pages & spreadsheet apps & internet. It would double as my daughter's computer for cyber school so it's crucial that it runs quickly & efficiently. If she can't complete everything on time or log in to her online sessions because of a computer issue we'll be up a creek without a paddle since this particular cyber school's tech department is still working off of pc's running Windows XP. My father, thus far a pc user, thought I should consider moving up to 8GB memory but I was hoping that with flash storage being faster, I would be able to avoid the extra $100 for the upgrade to 8GB. My biggest fear is finding myself as frustrated & angry as I am now with all of my pc's, ready to take a sledge hammer to them because they take forever to boot, launch apps, internet or do just about anything (that is if they're even fuctioning at all- not joking). Does anyone have any advice or input?   Thanks!!
P.s. On Apple's site I found a refurbished late 2013 model of the MacBook Pro Retina 13 with all of the same specs as listed above (4GB, not 8GB), running OS X (doesn't say which one) but for a bit less than a brand new one. Is this the same model as what they're currently selling new in their store or did they just upgrade everything to match what is being offered in the current "new" model? I realize this may be a dumb question but I can't seem to find anything online indicated that Apple has released a model newer than what was released late last year (October 2013, I believe), except that the model released then came with SSD storage instead of flash.

No computer is fault free but Apple MBPs have a good track record.  In those cases where problems do arise, Apple has the best support in the industry.
A MBP with 4 GB RAM with the SSD storage should be adequate for your needs.

The latest MBP models came out in October 2013, so it will be the same, with the same warranty and telephone support.  The difference will be that the price will be less and it will be delivered in a plain white box.
I have purchased three MBPs from the refurbished section.  I have never been able to detect any cosmetic differences and will go that route again.
    Ciao.

  • Macbook Pro Retina 15" flashing image/icon of world on screen at startup

My Macbook Pro (retina 15"), flashed an image/icon of the world when started up, and it had to be restarted before starting up properly. What's the reason for this? Is this an issue?

    Search on globe at startup.
When I did up came some answers from way back in 2006.
It said to go to preferences startup & select the start up.  I tried that & then restarted & while it seemed to take awhile then the rest has been faster.
It was saying something about losing where to find the start up so it was hunting until it found it.  Something like that.
    I'm on a 2012 13" MacBookPro running Mavericks.
Before this I had noticed it flashing back & forth between a gray screen & Mavericks screen on boot up (I was back & forth while booting & came back to see that. knew it wasn't good so shut down. Waited a few & then started up. It worked.)
It was funny since I had been wanting to go to Apple store & had talked about going w sister in law. That morning they said they were going in because hers wasn't working at all. So then I booted up & had that happen.
So I called & made a Genius bar appt. They checked & didn't find anything, but I had been getting the globe on bootup which kind of concerned me. Also its been rather slow booting & shutting down.

  • Flash movie in Safari in Macbook Pro Retina Display zooming issue

    Hello,
On Macbook Pro Retina Display in Safari browser, zooming any flash application in browser does not work properly.
I have made a YouTube video showing the problem in action:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bi1d1x8bpnA
When I zoom in and out using two fingers pinch zooming does not go as expected - it is zooming into bits outside of the zoom area while the zooming is in the process.
    Please fix the issue.
    Thanks.

    P.S:
I have also created an Adobe BugBase bug report here:
    https://bugbase.adobe.com/index.cfm?event=bug&id=3323043

    Hi Steffen....!!
The phenomenon which you just described is absolutely not common in the late 2013 retina macbook. Even I have the same model but I have never noticed such sounds neither during normal operations nor after tilting it.
I am afraid, but it seems to be a hardware issue. Might be because the fan assembly has become loose due to which its touching the other parts.
There is also a possibility  that some dirt or small piece of something might have gone inside the macbook through the air vents which may be interfering with the fan mechanism. I think so you can try to open the back cover of the macbook and see if something is interfering with the fans if your macbook is out of warranty. If its covered with Apple care, I suggest take it to Apple store and let them diagnose the issue.
    Hope this helps......

  • Flash Drive on Macbook Pro Retina

    Hello,
I have a sandisk cruzer fit flash drive that I purchased today for extra storage on my macbook pro retina. Will leaving it plugged in the usb port for extra storage slow down my mac? I purchased it because it is so small that I figured it would not get jammed or stuck on anything if I just left it plugged in.

No it wont affect a thing.
However I would only use it like that on a desk on a Mac that isnt ever moved.
Why?  Gets bumped or smacked (very easy) you can damage your USB port, and thats NO EASY fix.
A better option would be a 1TB HD, ....good storage is cheap,  $65 for a nice Toshiba 1TB external USB HD
