FLASH PLAYER 11 LSO Privacy vs Storage Persistence of User Data

Any plans in Flash Player 11 for striking a more even balance between:
1) Users for whom Flash LSO a.k.a. cookies, provide crucial cross-session storage of data for Games and Applications; and
2) Users who do NOT want flash cookies at all ?
In the Current Flash Player there is no way for users to White-List or Protect selected websites which rely on Flash cookies for games and applications.  Why Not ?
Example:
a) FLASH SETTINGS: After up-incrementing alloted Storage for a given site in the Flash Global or  Local Settings Manager, and
b) BROWSER OPTIONS: Favoriting a site, and Placing the site on  the Start Menu (MSIE).....
Even after taking the above steps Flash does NOT protect the LSO of the selected site(s) to which storage was granted in the Flash Player settings Panel.   The Flash Storage (Cookies, LSOs) are Globally Erased for All Websites and All Browsers on Users Device just  by cleaning up Cookies in MSIE for example.  Why does Flash Integration with the Browser allow this global erasure after the user has specifically granted a site storage in the "Flash Settings Panel" ?
SUGGESTIONS:
1) In the Desktop Environment allow a user to White-List websites whose Flash Cookies can NOT be deleted by the Browser, and have the Flash API protect the white list even during a global Cookie cleaning.
2)  Allow the same 4k minimum storage for Flash Cookies that existing HTML  cookies are already allocated without any appearance of the dreaded  settings panel.
3) On Mobile phones get the LSO working on the SIM  card by default and enable the File Reference Class Export and Import  functionality.
It is  unfortunate that while Browser support for other forms of Client  Storage, e.g. Webkit openDatabase, HTML5 IndexedDb, DOM storage and MSIE  Silverlight Isolated Storage are all allowing transparent and in many  cases permanent cookie or sandbox storage of 5meg per domain, the Flash  platform is loosing all of what had been similar functionality.
Why are you, Adobe letting this happen ?

I 100% agree!  We have an application that the Government requires information to be stored on the users computer as part of Multi-Factor-Authentication.  We originally wrote it as a browser application and when everyone and their brother started deleting browser cookies because of security concerns, we totally re-wrote it as a Flash application to take advantage of permanent storage.  This new "feature" in Flash Player is causing much concern because thousands of users will need to start answering security questions every single time they use the application and our staff is having to handle technical support questions that shouldn't exist.  Right now it's only IE that's causing the issue, but I'm sure every Internet Security program will soon be adding this to their products.  There should at least be a way for the USER to white-list a specific URL or Domain so Flash could exempt those sites from ANY external program trying to delete ALL Shared Objects/Local Storage/Flash Cookies.  A secondary option could be a check box to totally exempt SO deletion via the API, so the USER can make it work like it did before this update.  In all cases, it should be a choice the USER makes.  This would satisfy the extra privacy you are putting in there.

  • Flash Player, Windows 7 64-bit, Firefox 3.6 user needs HELP

There are so many solutions on this forum for using Firefox with Flash Player and getting it to work -- however I am dizzy from reading all the technical stuff that I can't begin to understand.  I don't even know what Flash Player does.  I don't know where it is or whether I need to update it.  Periodically I get a message from Firefox that says I need to update it immediately, but the directions to do so are way too complex for this computer user. I began using a PC as soon as they were available when computer stuff was much more straight-forward.  I just want things to work without all these complications.  I have a few questions:
    1.  How do I know whether or not Flash is working on my computer.  I get periodic messages from Firefox that say I need to Update Flash Player.  But I'm afraid to update something that I don't know is broken.
    2.  I can't begin to understand HOW to update.  Tried to update from the Firefox site.  It diverted me to a list of instructions which looked easy enough EXCEPT there was no yellow bar on my screen and therefore no "Edit Options."
    3.  When I read through many of the posts related to these issues, I realized that I do not have the capability to understand the instructions given to make all this work. I have Firefox 3.6.10.  Should I really uninstall it and download the 32-bit version?? I would be pretty afraid to download a Beta version of Flash Player for  64 bit since the description says it might be unstable in its infancy.
    4.  Where on earth do I find the Flash Player program currently installed?.
    5.  A screen just popped up that said it would Install Flash Player 10.1.  Should I install it with Firefox 3.6?  Or will this cause things not to work?
    6.  Can someone direct me to a Flash Player Beginners Forum?

We've been fighting this problem FOREVER!!
Why doesn't Adobe simply come out with a "Troubleshooter/Personal Settings" Inspector Program?
That way, I would start that program & it would analyze my op system, browser & version, current flashplayer being used
, and tell me the changes needed.  If Adobe REALLY  wanted to do it right, that program would make necessary changes "FOR US"! But, *WILL* THEY? Knowing Adobe, I DOUBT it.
If changes need to be made, it simply tells me what they are & give me links to accomplish all of it?
    IS THAT SO DIFFICULT?

  • Problem with Adobe Flash Player

I'm using an iMac quad i5 running Mountain Lion. Adobe Flash Player
works on only one of the two user accounts on the machine. Both users are
are set up as administrators. Both user accounts see the Flash Player in the
Preferences. Whenever you try to load youtube on the second user
it says you need to install the current version of Flash Player. I've
unistalled and reinstalled several times but it never sees it on the second
user account. Only the first user account. What am I missing here?

If you're sure you've installed the latest version of Flash, take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test. For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 4.
    1. If you're getting a "blocked plug-in" error, then from the menu bar select
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Check Now. Quit and relaunch your browser.
    2. Triple-click the line below to select it:
    /Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
    Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu. A folder should open. Delete the following item, or anything with a similar name, if present:
    Flash Player (failing).plugin
You may be prompted for your login password.
    3. Re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from this page:
Adobe - Install Adobe Flash Player
Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
    4. If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked Enable plug-ins.
    5. Select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.
    6. In the Safari preference window, select
Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
    Close the window. Then select
     ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Delete All. Close the preference pane.

  • Is there an archive page for Flash Player plugins for PORTABLE versions of web browsers?

Is there an archive page for downloads of Flash Player plugin installers for the PORTABLE versions of web browsers like Firefox ESR?
One of my web browsers is Firefox ESR 10.0.7 and it is a PORTABLE version of Firefox that apparently needs a different Flash Player plugin than the normal Flash Player plugin that regular versions of most web browsers require.
I do not want to install the most recent Flash Player plugin PORTABLE version because I've read about problems with it and that's the only version that this Firefox ESR will give me the option to download and install when I try to install the needed Flash Player plugin through the browser.
I already know about the normal Adobe Flash Player plugin archive page, linked below, but that does not have the Flash Player plugins for PORTABLE web browsers.
    http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/archived-flash-player-versions.html
I also looked on OldApps.com and I couldn't find anything there.
Where can I download an older version, possibly one of the 11.2 Flash Player plugins from around April 2012, that will work with this PORTABLE version Firefox ESR?
I tried this question on the Mozilla Firefox help forum but no one could answer it.
    Thanks for any help,
    digiday

    Hi Pat,
Thanks again for your reply. Your solutions seemed like they might work, especially since you were able to tell me where the Windows system Flash Player plugin files are located.
And for a minute or two, I thought it was working.  In my first tests in the PORTABLE Firefox browser I'm testing with, it was actually playing some YouTube videos, but then I found that not all YouTube videos apparently rely on Flash to play... apparently some do and some do not, and I found that most of them do require Flash to play.  I had tested with some of my own videos that I uploaded to YouTube in the past in my first tests today and they played just fine, but then I started testing with some other Flash YouTube videos and they would not play and I got both the yellow bar at the top of my window telling me to download and install Flash as well as the red banner across the video player that told me I needed to install Flash.
Let me also make it clear that I'm testing this on other sites with Flash videos besides YouTube, and webpages that have relatively simple animated Flash graphics, and those alternate tests are showing that the Flash Player plugin for this PORTABLE Firefox still will not work either.
So to spite everything, I tried actually downloading and installing the newest Flash Player plugin, 11.4 something, (which I was trying to avoid) through the browser, and that only proceeded to overwrite my Windows system Flash Player plugin and it DID NOT place any Flash Player plugin files in the PORTABLE Firefox plugins folder.
I had pasted in the files you recommended in to the PORTABLE Firefox plugins folder, and I actaully included ALL the files from that Windows system Flash plugin folder for this test, but unfortunately that didn't work, and even after I tried changing the name of that one file, it still didn't work.
And I am closing and re-opening the browser in between each of these steps in my test.
So here, below, I'm including an email letter that I've now written to a Tor Browser support email address where I had been corresoponding previously.  The "Tor-Firefox" web browser is the PORTABLE Firefox ESR web browser that I've been referring to.  This is what I wrote, which pretty much sums up everything I've tried and been unsuccessful with so far...
    Hello Tor Browser help staff,
I've now tried everything and I cannot get ANY Flash content to play in this Tor-Firefox ESR web browser, even though I've tried installing the Flash player plugin that this browser asks for when I'm on a YouTube page (and even though this computer already had a current Flash Player plugin installed previously).
Let me make it clear that privacy is not important to me right  now during this quest to make the Flash Player plugin work with this Tor browser... I can reset any settings for maximum privacy later when I go back to that purpose for using Tor... right now, I'm just trying to make the Tor browser play Flash content.
So even though I've UNCHECKED the Torbutton>Preferences>Security  Settings>Disable plugin during Tor usage box, and I installed a new Flash player plugin THROUGH this browser, and I even set it to allow all scripts because I thought maybe that was complicating things, IT STILL WILL NOT PLAY FLASH CONTENT OF ANY TYPE.
Now, this, explained below, could be part of the problem that I'd like to ask for your help or SOMEONE's help with there in your department...
If I go to the Tor Browser folder on my hard drive at C:>Tor  Browser>FirefoxPortable>Data>plugins there are NO Flash plugin files that show up in that folder even after I install a new Flash Player plugin THROUGH this browser... I believe that is why it will not play Flash content.
All it does when I install a Flash Player plugin through this Tor browser is to overwrite my Windows 7 system Flash Player plugin, but it does not actually place any Flash Player plugin files in the C:>Tor Browser>FirefoxPortable>Data>plugins folder, so that's why this PORTABLE version of the Firefox ESR browser will not play any Flash content... and it doesn't work from the Windows system Flash Player plugin the way that my normal Firefox (NON-TOR) web browser does.  My other Firefox web browser sees the the Windows system Flash Player plugin just fine and it does play Flash content correctly.
There is, however, one text file that comes stock inside the Tor browser plugins folder and when it is opened it says, "Place Firefox plugins in this directory (Flash, Shockwave, etc)".
So with some advice from someone on the Adobe help forum, I tried copying the Flash Player plugin files from the Windows system folder at C:>Windows>System32>Macromed>Flash in to the Tor browser plugins folder at C:>Tor  Browser>FirefoxPortable>Data>plugins, and that still didn't work.
Note that I am closing and re-opening the Tor browser between each of these tests.
So I then followed some further advice from the expert on the Adobe help forum and I changed the name of the main Flash Player plugin file that I had copied and pasted in to the Tor browser plugins folder from "NPSWF32_11_4_402_278.dll" to "NPSWF32.dll", and that still did not work... note that I left all the other files that I copied and pasted from the Windows system Flash plugins folder with the same name they originally had... I tried only changing that one Flash plugin file name, as instructed by the expert on the Adobe help forum.
I also tried posting a question about this on the Mozilla Firefox forum, but no one there is able to answer this question.
What the problem seems to be is that when this Tor-Firefox ESR 10.0.7 browser installs a Flash Player plugin, it just installs it to the Windows system folder (the same way that the normal (non-Tor) Firefox browser does) and  NOT  into the Tor-Firefox plugins folder C:>Tor  Browser>FirefoxPortable>Data>plugins, as would be needed for it to be able to play Flash content.
No matter what I do, whenever I try to view a YouTube video or any Flash video in this browser, or any Flash graphic content at all, I get the yellow bar at the top of the page that says "Additional plugins are required to display all the media on this page - Install Missing Plugins" and there is a banner displayed where the Flash content is supposed to be that says, "The Adobe Flash Player is required for video playback - Get the latest Flash Player".
And as I explained at the top of this email, I have already installed and re-installed the Flash Player plugin on this computer multiple times, including doing it directly through this Tor-Firefox ESR browser itself.
So can ANYONE there tell me how to get the correct Flash Player plugin files in to the Tor-Firefox browser plugins folder at C:>Tor  Browser>FirefoxPortable>Data>plugins, and where do I get those files?  Everything I've tried, which is pretty extensive, has not worked, and it seems that someone there should know about this.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Adobe Flash Player Settings Box

Just upgraded to Flash Player 16.0.0.257 ~ every video I try to watch has the Settings Box right in the middle ~ have r/clicked the box, tried settings, tried to close the box and nothing happens, almost acts like it's frozen. [see pic's]    Went to online to Flash Player Settings Manager, changed some storage settings, closed the settings side, no help.  Deleted Flash Player and reinstalled, same result ~ possible some settings are being stored in Windows someplace.  Using Windows 7 Pro, 64bit, IE 11.0.9600.17501, I believe this is the latest version.  Would be happy to e-mail anyone any additional information or respond here ~ I'm usually pretty good at figuring this sort of thing out but this has me puzzled...  Thanks in advance for your help..  GM

  • Flash player does not work under one user account.

Flash player does not work under one of my user accounts.
My system: I work with a mac mini with Mac OS X 10.6.8.
    What I have done:
I installed the flash player maybe one year ago under my "first" user account. At that time this user account had had administrator authorization. In the meantime I had to change this "first" user account in an account without administrator authorization and created an administrator user with which I installed different programms. Lately, the message came up that it would be necessary to update the flash player. I did it; under the "first" user account, but of course with the administrator's password for installing. The installation had been "successful" - so I was told. But it did not run. I tried it again and again. Each time with "deinstallation" first. No way; it did not work.
After asking Adobe for the reason of the problem, they suggested to install the programm directly under the administrator user. I did that (of course after deinstalling under the "first" user account) with the result, that flash player runs under my administrator and my "second" user account, but not under the first user account. There I am always told to update my flash player.
With this result, I talked to Adobe. So they told me to contact the producer of the operating software, since this would be a mistake of the operating software.
And here I am - full of hope to get help from you.
Thanks for reading. And thanks in advance for helping me.
    Nanny FS

Any update to provide at all here guys?  Again, in my situation, it's very much rights-related as a standard user doesn't even report that the flash player exists when testing it on the Adobe Flash Version Detection website (despite it showing up in Control Panel and under Add/Remove Programs).  I've already tried giving the C:\Windows\System32\Macromed and files/subfolders appropriate permissions for the standard user and still nothing.  If I either give the user in question full local admin rights or logon as the domain admin, then the Adobe Flash Version Detection website says Flash is installed and Flash works fine.
    Thoughts???

  • Flash Player does not work on site funnygames.nl

Since I installed Flash Player 11.1.102.55 all sites and users on my computer seems to be working correctly with Flash Player. Only the site funnygames.nl does not see the ActiveX installation of Flash. Each time when a game is to be loaded in Internet Explorer IE asks for installation of the ActiveX component.
Only when starting IE as administrator user the games do work.
    OS: Windows 7 (64bit)
    IE: Internet Explorer 9

    Hi Jan,
I tried this out with both the latest version of FP and the previous version and I was also able to reproduce this issue.  I suspect that funnygames has something incorrectly configured on their site.  Have you tried contacting them to see what they had to say?

  • Do I need to install PPAPI plug-in of Adobe Flash Player?

Currently using NPAPI Plug-in version 17.0.0.169 with Safari in Yosemite 10.2.2.  I noticed there is an option to install a PPAPI plug in.  Is that just for Chrome (which I don't use), or do I need it for Safari or Firefox?  A few sites have indicated I need to update my Flash Player, but system preferences says I an up to date on NPAPI, but that PPAPI is not installed.

What you're using currently for Safari also works in Firefox and Opera. You can check that with this Adobe website.

  • 1/14/2014 - Release - Flash Player 12

Today we're pleased to announce that the next version of Flash Player is available for immediate download.  This update includes the following new features and improvements:
    New Features:
Internet Explorer 11 on Windows 7 Support
Microsoft has released IE 11 on Windows 7 and we plan to officially support this in Flash Player 12.
    Mac .pkg Installation Support
Deploying Flash Player and keeping it up to date is a critical task for system administrators worldwide.  In Flash Player 11.9 we added .pkg support for ease of deployment.  In Flash Player 12, we've incorporated feedback from system administrators to improve the workflow and UI.
Graphics: Buffer Usage flag for Stage3D
We've added a new enum Class called Context3DBufferUsage which defines two constants, STATIC_DRAW (default) and DYNAMIC_DRAW.  These constants specify how buffers will be used in Stage3D. We've also added a new parameter, called "bufferUsage", to the constructors of VertexBuffer and IndexBuffer. This "bufferUsage" parameter uses one of the constants form Context3DBufferUsage, which will allow you to select the appropriate buffer type according to your needs.
Stage3D Creation of Context3D with Profile Arra
We've added a new interface to Stage3D.requestContext3DMatchingProfiles(profiles:Vector.<String> ) which will create a Context3D with highest level suitable profile that is in profile array,  based on the current hardware.  A developer can check the newly added property 'profile' to obtain the current profile that was chosen by the Flash Runtime.
    Notable Fixes and Enhancements:
[3629735] [Chrome x64] XPS Printing produces blank documents
[3633845] [Win8.x] YouTube videos don't always resume when tapping inside the video in desktop IE

[3638538] [Win7][IE 11 - Instaback] Video continues to play for a few seconds after navigating away from page
[3646580] [Win8.1] edit control does not handle IVS characters or surrogate pairs such as emoticons correctly
[3641030][Mac] flash.media.scanHardware() does not work on NPAPI Flash Player
[3649243] [Win8.x] ARM devices: YouTube controls disappear when when exiting fullscreen by invoking app bar

[3660676] KingsRoad Stage3D performance impacted on low-end laptops running Chrome with PPAPI player
[3673798] white/black background displays in CC mode
    Known Issues:
Due to a recent issue discovered with the last released versions of Flash Player 11.9 (version 11.9.900.170 ) and Flash Player 12.0 ( version 12.0.043 ), audio or video playback when streaming over an RTMFP based peer to peer connection, including direct peer to peer, ip multicast or app level multicast configurations, will fail on IE 9 and IE 10 browsers. The issue does not affect Firefox, Chrome or Safari browsers.
The fix will be made available in the next Flash Player 12 update. Until then we recommend users use an alternate browser for applications that use p2p real time communications, including audio, video, data conferencing or chat applications.
The following behaviors will be modified in Safari 6.1 and higher in Safe Mode:
AIR Badge Installs - AIR Badge Installer will not launch an installer when running Safari 7 in Safe Mode.  Users will instead see a dialog with a link to more details and workarounds on an Adobe website.
Adobe Connect Plug-In Install - The Connect Plug-In Express Install will no longer work on Safari 7 in Safe Mode.  Users will instead see a dialog with a link to more details on an Adobe website.
Flash Player Global Settings - When a users launches the Global Settings menu from the Flash Player context menu on Safari 7 in Safe Mode, the user will be taken to the classic SWF-based preferences menu on an Adobe website, instead of the native Flash Player settings UI in the MacOS Control Panel.
LocalConnection - When a LocalConnection is constructed from a SWF hosted in Safe Mode, it may only establish a connection with other SWFs also hosted in Safe Mode.  If a LocalConnection is constructed from a tab with Safe Mode disabled, it will not be able to communicate with a SWF in a Safe Mode tab.
