Flash Player 13 crashes with Mac OS X 10.6.8

Any version of Flash Player 13 crashes on activation.
Installing FP 12 as suggested allows Flash Player to work, but FF 28 plugin check complains "Out of Date" plugin. Update.
How serious is the security issue of running this older version of Flash Player?
(How serious is tricking the Java Installer to ignore the >OS 10.7.2 restriction?)
Thanks.

Adobe is aware of this problem. Unfortunately, in order to make both Firefox and Safari happy, you probably do have to use Firefox 12. This thread has more info and links:

  • Flash Player Problems with Mac Power PC

I have tried all the suggestions on this forum about how to install Flash Player for a Power PC Mac running 10.5.8. I still get the notice to install Flash Player. Is there something else that could be wrong? I ran the debugger, don't have any firewalls running etc. I finally got it to download and install but where is it going?

    Hi Chris,
    I used this link: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/895134?tstart=0
    Where you said the following,
    'Please try the following:
    1. Follow the instructions for uninstalling Flash Player on the Mac: Uninstall Flash Player | Mac
    2. Mount the flashplayer10_1r102_64_ub_mac.dmg and try installing again
    3. If it still fails, right click on "Install Adobe Flash Player" and select "Show Package Contents".
    4. Navigate into the /Contents/Resources/ folder and double click the Adobe Flash Player.pkg file.
    Thanks,
    Chris'
    It didn't help though.
I tried step 4 and the installer says, "You cannot install. There is nothing to install."
So now, what am I to do??
    Thanks.

  • Adobe Flash Player crashing in Mac

I know there have been numerous threads about this same issue, but I was wondering if there was anything else that I can try? I have:
    Mac OSX 10.7.4
    Firefox 12.0
I *had* Adobe 11.2.202.235 then I downgraded it back to 10.3.183.10
When I had the latest version, youtube videos would only load to a certain point, then restarted after it played till that loaded point.
When I want to watch other clips, they don't load at all and crash, and my browser freezes for about a minute till it gives me the grey "Adobe has crashed" message and prompts me to send a crash report (which i always do).  Now that I've downgraded, it works a little better, but it still works intermittently.  Should I downgrade the flashplayer even more? Or just wait for a fix? or is there anything else AT ALL that I can do with this? I went to the apple store, it's not my hardware/computer, and it's not my internet at home because everyone else's computer works.  So I've deduced that it can only be flashplayer. Thanks!!!

  • Shockwave/Flash Player crashes with every browser...Ugh.

I can't find a solution in this forum although a lot of people seem to be asking this question. Flash crashes constantly and it doesn't matter if I use Chrome, Firefox or IE. It's quite unbearable. I don't have multiple Flash players and if an add-on is causing this, I can't draw a link between it crashing and me disabling them. I've scanned for malware and gotten rid of anything found. No viruses that my virus protection reports. The problem just gets worse. It used to be occasionally, then multiple times a day, now its pretty much anytime I want to use Flash...which seems to be constantly. It freezes my computer then an error message comes up and says Shockwave player has crashed. I have updated shockwave and flash, so I have the most recent versions....any solutions?
    Thanks in advance.

If your machine had a recent malware infection, you might want to consider backing up your critical files and starting fresh.  It takes time for antivirus and anti-malware packages to discover and push signatures for new viruses, and it's standard practice to deploy new malware to ensure that an attacker maintains their foothold on a compromised machine.
If it was my personal machine, I would back up any critical data files, wipe the machine and re-install everything from pristine sources.  Not exactly convenient, but you can be reasonably sure that the system is running the software you expect (discounting the possibility of malware that compromises the system BIOS).
That said, there's not a lot of actionable information here.  I'd recommend uninstalling Flash Player and re-installing fresh.  You actually have three different Flash Players -- there's an ActiveX control for Internet Explorer, the NPAPI plug-in for Firefox and the PPAPI Flash Player for Chrome.  The PPAPI Flash Player for Chrome is totally encapsulated -- it doesn't even share settings.
SO... malware aside, the next most likely culprit is graphics drivers.  Each of the independent Flash Player installations attempts to use a hardware accelerated feature (like video playback), but the driver crashes.  Typically updating the graphics drivers would resolve this, or you can experiment with disabling hardware acceleration.  How do I disable or enable hardware acceleration? Windows: how do I update the device driver for my video/display adapter?

    Go to:

On the right hand side there will be a button that says Get Adobe Flash Player. Click on that and you will be taken to a page that will allow you to download the most up to date version of flash supported by your system. Then simply follow the directions on that page to install.

  • Adobe Flash PLayer crashes with chatango?

Alright, this all started when I downloaded adobe flash (The newest version. ) Whenever I log onto chatango, in literally a SECOND, adobe crashes, saying " Adobe has crashed. No reports available." (Or something similar. ) I've tried virtually EVERYTHING. I've tried waiting a few hours/days to log back in, that didn't work. I've tried downloading the NEWWWEST version of Flash Player, Adobe 10 and 9, the newest version of firefox-- on my mac, updating missed updates on software update, making new accounts on chatango.. nothing's working. Please, please help me out. Thank you so much. <3

Illogical though it may seem, even though you may be OK in IE and in Chrome, try updating your video drivers. That solved it for me.

  • Flash Player crashing with advertisements in Chrome

I have noticed that Flash Player has been crashing more frequently in Chrome with various advertisers.  The yellow bar appears at the top telling me that Flash Player has crashed and there is a button to 'stop' the Player or you can X out.  Either choice, it freezes the page and I cannot continue.  I have to shut down all my tabs since it seems to affect ALL of Chrome.  Should the yellow bar disappear after I click on 'stop' or X out of the box, the advertisement box causing the problem is in black with a skull and crossbones in the center.  I have had other friends tell me the same thing has been happening to them.  I have WIndows XP, another friend has Windows Vista, another Windows 7.  We are all using Chrome.  So what is up here, is it Chrome itself or is it the advertising within Chrome that is not working correctly, OR, is there an issue with Flash Player?  Somewhere there is a programming error.  Frustrating.

  • Mac OS X - Flash Player crashes all browsers

I installed Flash Player on a MacBook Pro under Mac OS X
10.4.10. If I visit any page with Flash content, the browser
crashes immediately. This happens with any browser - tried it with
    Safari, Firefox, and Opera.
If I uninstall Flash Player, I can visit those pages fine -
but of course I can't see the Flash content.
    Any ideas?

Lee, what is your Flash Player version? You can see it in
firefox if you type "about:plugins" in address bar.
Recently (July, 21st) I have posted a bug report about Flash
player crashing on Mac OS X 10.4.7 on Intel processor:
I have noted that Flash Player 9.0.47.0 (9.0 r47) crashes on
    any Flex application, for example:
    http://www.adobe.com/devnet/flex/samples/flex_store_v2/
But if you uninstall r47 and install an earlier version -
    r28, it works well.
    The uninstaller is here:

  • How can I install Adobe flash player on my Mac using Safari OR Chrome? I have gone through every step on all of the help pages. The installation process always stops with the black box that briefly says, "Retrieving Install . . . ", then nothing.

I have followed every step in the various help pages I was directed to when troubleshooting the inability to install Adobe Flash Player on my Mac using either Safari or Chrome. Everything has failed. I always get the black box that says briefly, "Retrieving instal. . . " and then goes blank. When I close that window, I get the message, "Adobe Flash Player could not be installed." Then it gives some links to follow for troubleshooting. I have followed ALL of the links there and on other help pages, to no avail. I've run into problems installing Adobe before, but it's never been this bad. Would someone please develop another format besides Adobe? Trying to get help from Adobe feels a little like trying to find a building in New York City with no map or GPS. The time required is voluminous, the emotional energy a/k/a frustration is overwhelming, and long before I get anything resolved, I wish the earth would open up and swallow all things Adobe@. Absence that miraculous intervention, I have to figure out what to do next. Does anyone know? Anyone?

  • Problems with Flash Player on a Mac

I recently installed the latest version of Flash Player on my Mac.  Now, it's broken.  Every site I go that uses Flash Player either displays a message "Missing plug-in" or "Typeerror: #1009"  (I think that last is correct - the message disappears from the screen after seconds and there's no way to capture it.
I'm on a Mac running 10.6.8 and the latest Flash Player downloaded today.  I've checked the preferences to make sure everything is set correctly (i.e. plug-ins enabled and Javascript enabled), I've gone into storage and deleted all the stored data in case something in there was corrupt.  I don't know what else I can do.
This version of Flash Player appears broken somehow.
Anyone know where I can download older versions that work?

Look at it this way: The websites that incorporate Flash on their sites wrote their code to follow the specs provided by Adobe.  If the new version doesn't work on those sites (where it worked before) then either Adobe changed the specs and didn't tell anyone, or the code they wrote is not backwards compatible.  Yes, I know there's an argument to be made for the sites writing bad code but that would account for a small number of sites, not dozens like I'm seeing.
Either way you look at it, whether I'm running the old version of Flash Player or the new version of Flash Player, there is a subset of websites (different in each case) that I cannot access content on, and that's Adobe's fault for the most part.  I now have to choose which subset of sites I can't access - the ones that won't work with the old version of the software or the ones that won't work with the latest version.
I've always been unhappy with Adobe.  This just makes me more so.  It's one of the reasons why I've vowed NEVER to buy an Adobe product and never to recommend Adobe products to anyone.  I only tolerate Flash and Adobe Reader because they're somewhat necessary.  If there was an alternative to them, I'd use it.  For the most part, I use Preview instead of Adobe Reader on my Mac and get along just fine.  But, I haven't found a good replacement for Flash.
If there's anyone out there from Adobe reading this thread: Fix your damn software!!

I keep getting a gray exclamation mark on things that run a Flash player. I never go over my RAM memory and after I get the gray exclamation mark it asks me to update my flash player. Even when I do so it say I have the most update Flash player. i have to close all my window and went 2 minute than reopen before it will work again

Can you try a browser other than IE10 to see if this still occurs?  Given that IE10 is still not generally available to the public, I'm not sure how much testing it's getting at this point.
Regardless, this is something we'd want to address.  Please open a new bug report on this issue over at bugbase.adobe.com. The following FAQ will walk you through the information we'll need and instructions for generating a crash log (if applicable):
