Flash Player 9 not installing on Mac OSX

Hi,
I have noticed many problems and questions about the
successful installation of Flash Player 9 on these forums over the
past few weeks. I have read lots of them, and still haven't been
able to find one that describes the issues I am encountering while
trying to install.
Basically, I download the installer, close my browser (I use
Firefox), and then run it. The installer reaches the point at which
it says that there are 4 more items to be installed, and then it
just keeps cycling (the groovy blue bar keeps on turning) but
nothing happens. Nada - no messages, no nothing. I have let it go
for as long as 45 minutes, which I know is futile, but have done it
anyway. I have also tried to uninstall any previous versions of
Flash Player, but the uninstaller does the same thing...just goes
and goes, without doing anything. I have to force the
installers/uninstallers to quit, then I read more posts about other
people's issues, to no avail.
I have run Disk Utility, twice. I am wary to do much more
unless an expert can guide me in the mysterious ways of permissions
and plugins and that fun stuff. Would anyone be so kind as to
suggest a solution? Please? Thank you in advance for your help!!

I receive  a message that the latest version of Adobe Flash Player is required to view certain pages such as you tube or news websites. I have tried to download numerous times to no avail. Contacted support and they directed me here. I cannot repair the disc in utilities as the option is not highlighted .

What happens when you try - do you get an error message?
Have you tried the installer from http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/fp_distribution3.html ?

  • Flash player will not install blank installer, full download? tool remove remnants of flash?

    Windows 7 64bit, Firefox,Explorer, Chrome
For the longest time flash player will not install (updates for upgrades).
If I go to the main page I can download the 1mb file then open it up and the installer box opens but never does anything and is just black except the top bar. I can't even close it out. I have to "end task" it. I has been going on for a year or so.  I usually have to find a link to the full installer version but can't find it anymore.
Is there a tool to remove all remnants of Adobe flash player?
Link to full installer version of player?
I tried uninstalling all versions but still the same problem
    Thanks

The installer works for the vast majority of people.  We serve up something like 1.2 billion installs every months, so a failure rate of even 0.0001 is > 100,000 people.  We're not seeing that kind of traffic about this issue.
As the installer isn't dependent on Flash Player, and it doesn't leave anything around beyond a log file, it's unlikely that blowing Flash Player completely away would resolve anything, and it sounds like your efforts bear that out.  There's something underneath us that's not working right.  With Mac, it's usually corrupted NVRAM settings, but I'm not sure what it is on Windows.  My guess is that it's related to the graphics subsystem, but it's not something that I've seen happen under lab conditions, and we'd need to debug it to get a definitive answer.
So, I have a couple suggestions in order of least to most effort:
    Switch to Google Chrome.
Flash Player is a built-in component, so there's nothing separate to download or maintain.  Updates happen automatically as part of the standard Chrome update process, so you never have to touch another Adobe installer if you don't want to.
Scan your hard disk for errors, run the Windows system file checker, and make sure you have the latest graphics drivers for your system
Check your hard disk for errors in Windows 7
Use the System File Checker tool to repair missing or corrupted system files
Back up all of your stuff (ideally to both a disk and an online backup service for redundancy), wipe the machine and do a fresh install of Windows

  • Flash Player 10 Not installing on Win 7 64 bit PC

Flash Player 10 download goes through install procedure and says it is installed but it is not.
After that There is always  a Flash Player Install file on the PC.
When I click on that it goes through the install procedure and says it is installed but it is not.
Have tried above install more than 6 different times. Also on my wife's new PC.
    Always the same bad result.
These two new PC's are both on WIN 7 64 bit OS.

I tried the suggested method of uninstall and then install.  Also the disable instructions for Norton AV.
Still no success.  When I again check the list of programs in Control Panel for possible uninstall the Flash Player 10 has returned there.
But the player does not play when needed for some videos on Facebook, etc.
One thing I could not find to disable on Norton AV was "Smart Firewall."  It was not in my NAV 2011.
    Any other suggestions appreciated.

Subject: Flash Player 10 Not installing on Win 7 64 bit PC
Hi, I would try this method and see if it works better. There is a link for FF(Firefox) If you don't use FF, ignore that. Also before you begin this procedure, I need to know what Anti-Virus/Spyware programs you have Installed. Some will block the Install of Flash Player and that needs to be taken care of first.
Download and SAVE to your Desktop the Uninstaller:
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
Download and SAVE to your Desktop the Installer for IE- use the EXE Installer
    http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/fp_distribution3.html
Download and SAVE to your Desktop the Installer for FF- use the EXE Installer for plugin based (from the same site)
Close all browser windows, you only want to be looking at your Desktop.
Disable any messenger services, as yahoo, msn, etc in the system tray(area near the clock)
Be sure to use the Administrator Account.
Run the Uninstaller and when finished, Reboot(restart) your computer.
Run the Installer for IE, Run the Installer for FF(If needed/used) and when finished, Reboot.
Then go to this test site and test each browser:
    http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
You may want to print these instructions to make it easier to follow. If you have any questions, let me know.

  • Flash Player will not install thinks it is already installed

    Win 7 64bit
I can not open a PDF in the latest reader. It tells me flash needs to be installed. I go to the adobe site and flash player will not install stating it is already installed.  The active x widget says not player is installed.  It is not listed in managed add ons and is not listed in installed programs.
How can I install the program?

Some PDFs (with Rich Media Content) require the Flash Player plugin (NPAPI) to be installed.
I do not quite understand what you have installed, and what not.  I recommend that you uninstall Flash Player completely using the uninstaller from http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/uninstall-flash-player-windows.html
then download and run both installers from
Flash Player for Internet Exporer - ActiveX
Flash Player for Firefox - NPAPI

  • Has anyone been able to contact Adobe to learn why their Flash Player does not work on Mac OS 10.6.8, no matter how many updates you install?  This seems like a big error by Adobe.

I have thee Mac computers with Mac OS 10.6.8, one of which is a Mac Pro.  No matter how many updates I install from Adobe, their Flash Player does not work on any of these 3 computers.  I don't know how to contact Adobe Systems about this problem, but I think it is their responsibility to make sure that their so-called "universal" software works proplerly on a relatively recent operating system like OS 10.6.8 that is still in widespread use.  When you install the updates, nothing happens -- not even an error message.  What is the point of a universal player that is not universal?  It works fine on my MacBook Pro with OS 9 Mavericks, but it does not work at all -- indeed, has never worked -- on my 3 Macs with OS 10.6.8.  Has anyone contacted Adobe Systems to find out why the Flash Player does not work with OS 10.6.8 and what they plan to do about it?

Where are you getting Flash from?
Get the appropriate dmg installer here and then run it.
    http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/distribution3.html
If it still won't install, do these two things: First uninstall any Flash by going into the second level Hard Drive Library>Internet Plug-ins, and trash the Flash Player.plugin and flashplayer.xpt. Then boot into Safe Boot, Shift at the startup chime (give it much longer than a usual boot) and run the installer while booted in Safe Boot.

  • Flash Player will not Install-Mac

The specs of my machine are as follows:
I was alerted to the need to install a  new flash version a few days ago.  I attempted, and failed, to achieve the install.   Thereafter, I shut down all my security and firewall programs, unistalled all of my previous versions, restarted the computerr, and attempted it again.  I failed again.  And again.  Repeatedly.  I then uninstalled the 11, installed the 10.5, and found none of my websites would accept the out of date flash player.  Now I have no flashplayer, and no way to aquire a new one.
Here is the specifics of what goes wrong: 1) I download the installer:
    2)I open it:
3)I Click "Install Adobe Flash Player."  It runs quickly for a second, then brings me to 'my update' preferences.  I selecet the first one, as shown in screenshot.  (Im aware this is unlikely to be relevant, Im just  attempting to be thorough):
    4) I Click "next" and the installer begins to run, as a blue progress line crosses the window:
    5) When it reaches the 7% shown (within 2 seconds) it remains there (for roughly 20 seconds).  Then the window cashes, disappearing.  NO error message is shown.  If there was, it would be included.
I have attempted the fix represented in the "troubleshooting" section of the adobe flash program download FRQs page.  It explains that if the installer stalls, I should control click the installer, open the "show contents"selection, and active a sub installer (?) from within.
    The Adobe website representation:
My computer lacks the indicated file.  Instead I have:
I have attempted to open all of the files in 'Contents-Resources.'  No success.
Please Help.  Any assistance would be very much appriciated.  Ive attempted to put every aspect of the problem here as clearly as possible.  I can answer any other questions in the pursuit of success.

Moved to the Installing Flash Player forum, as it's unrelated to the Beta.
If you haven't done so already, completely uninstall Flash Player, then re-install the latest version of Flash Player:

  • Adobe Flash Player says not installed when it is.

Adobe Flash Player shows as installed on the primary Admin account (and works there) all other Admin and regular user accounts say it isn't installed.
I have tried installing as various users and Administrator status, but I get the same response.
    "Install Successful"
    "Adobe Flash Player not Installed"
I am new to MAC, but can't fathom how this could be Apples fault. Unfortunately, Adobe support requires Adobe Flash Player to access help content.

To find the folder I went to Finder > Library > Internet Plug-ins.
The folder is empty and says 0 files. I am not currently on an Admin log-in, but I'm used to files showing regardless. When installing, I am asked for the Admin account and log in info before the file will load.
I downloaded the latest flash player from Adobe this morning.
Virtual Drive: What I am used to being an installation file in Windows shows up as a disk drive icon on my desktop. I have to "eject disk" to get rid of it. I thought it was just a "MAC" thing. Other software loaded this way, but also had me drag an icon to the Applications folder. Adobe does not.
I am starting to wonder if there is a file sharing issue that isn't allowing me to see some software. I noticed I also do not see data in 'Public' when I know I added pictures there in another account. I can't remember changing any settings on my MBA. I have only had it a month and have been afraid of messing up my first MAC.
    Thanks for staying with this.

  • Is Anyone Else Sick and Tired of Flash Player 10 Not Installing?

I've tried everything under the sun to get Flash Player to install on my PC, to no avail.  I went to the Adobe site and followed their instructions to the letter regarding how to resolve Flash Player installation problems.  I've also tried every suggestion on every discussion board/forum that I could find.  Flash Player still won't install or run.  I have no Flash Player capability on any site, including Youtube, which out of the blue stopped letting me watch videos because I have an "old version of Adobe's Flash Player" and I must "Get the Latest Flash Player."  Believe me, I'd like to get the latest Flash Player.  Not only have I wasted hours of my life trying to find a solution to this problem, hours that I can never get back, but it also exceedingly frustrating to go through one attempt after another after another with the same unhappy results.  Judging by what I've read online, there are untold multitudes experiencing this same problem.  What can be done?  I've all but come to the conclusion that the answer is nothing.

...and here is what I did. Again, Im on a macbook pro 2008 edition on 10.5.7.
First of all, I tried everything simple I could think of. I have been having issues updating my CS3 Suite from day 1 (the updater would fail every time) and was told I needed to uninstall the Creative Suite and reinstall it on another profile to troubleshoot it. That would mean losing my Dreamweaver files, so I just put up with it.
    I tried:
Quitting my browsers, reopening, downloading Flashplayer 10 and installing. Installer ran, Suceeded, and erased any player I had period. FAIL
Uninstalling the flash player, reinstalling Flashplayer 10, Installer ran, Suceeded, still no player. FAIL
Uninstalling the current flash player, reinstalling Flashplayer 9, Installer ran, Suceeded, reinstalled Flashplayer 10, removed all Flash player versions from browser detection . FAIL
I decided to stay with FP9 so that I could view ANY flash content until I got this fixed.
I had heard something about Filevault compatibility issues with the Adobe software. To me, this was stupid that this would exist and from what I read more people were getting flamed for USING the available Filevault options than getting real answers as why there was a conflict between the two.
"Your answer for the issue with Adobe and FIlevault? Don't use Filevault..." What kind of response is that, people? I feel the same about IE for you Windose users... you should all convert to Firefox or Mozilla, but is that the answer to why something should supposedly work on your computer and it is refusing to do so? Not really...
So, seeing that I am no longer in the need for the physical increase in security via File vault and really wanting to be able to not only view those little movies embedded in my Facebook posts but also try updating my creative suite3, I tried turning off Filevault.
"FAILED: You must have at least 37.7GB available Disk space to Disable FileVault"
What?! What gives... why would they need you to have that much space to do a disable? Either way- I have 21gb available at the time. Time to archive some photos and movies.
I dumped everything in my pictures folder but my iPhoto files and all of my movies onto a backup drive and fixed permissions freeing up a total of 53gb, which were all out of whack. I restarted my computer and then proceeded to turn-off file vault which took a few hours.
Today, as I started up Adobe PhotoshopCS3- my updater ran, as it has, and prompted me to update. I figured- What the heck, I'll try- and sure enough.. the updater.... worked. I now had the complete updated version of CS3... but did my flashplayer update also? Nope. Still Flashplayer 9.
I ran the updater, and voila- I now a the owner of a shiney new working Flashplayer 10.
So.... if you are on a Mac like meeeeeeee... you might try turning OFF filevault also if it is enabled. If you dont have it on, Maybe free up at least 50gb and see if that helps.
Otherwise, we're singled out in this array of "HAHA! You LOSE!" in the world of updaters from Adobe. Good luck... and good night.

  • Flash Player will not install - OSX 10.9.5 w/ Firefox 34.0.5

I know this question has been asked before, but since no one seems to have an answer for it I have no choice but to ask again.
I was having trouble posting scores on a gaming website. The game ran fine, and I could log in successfully, but my scores never showed on the player list. The help section of the site suggested uninstalling / reinstalling Flash Player. I was having trouble with Flash elsewhere so I thought I'd give it a try. The uninstall was successful but now Flash will not reinstall. Now instead of a malfunctioning Flash Player I have no Flash Player at all.
The install process goes as it should - the installer uploads to my desktop, I open it, I get the "Adobe Flash Player Installer" window, I double-click in the icon, I'm asked if I'm "sure I want to open it," I click "open," I enter my administrator password, then comes the problem. The next pop-up window has a black background and for about 1/2 second you can see the words "Retrieving Install" and a loading progress bar, then the words disappear and you're left looking at the blank black box. That's it.
I have Ghostery, Lightbeam, and HTTPS Everywhere add-ons on Firefox. I turned Ghostery off through this process.
    Thanks in advance.

Well, good news. I solved it. And it's beyond bizarre that no one has suggested this.
Nested deep, deep, in the the help section is this:
    Still having problems?
If you are still having trouble installing Adobe Flash Player, try downloading the installer directly from the following sites:
Flash Player for Safari and Firefox - NPAPI
Flash Player for Opera and Chromium-based browsers - PPAPI
Apparently Adobe doesn't have a copy of its own software that works? Ridiculous but true. You actually have to download it from your browser's website.
Adobe, you all seriously need to get your act together.

  • Flash player 10 not working on Mac

    Hi there,
I am unable to use flash player on a Mac OSX 10.6.4.  I have a webcam on my laptop but for some reason flash enabled sites are unable to detect the webcam.  The message I receive is "no camera detected."  I've tried reinstalling flash player numerous times but that hasn't fixed the problem.  Looking at photobooth I can see that my webcam is functioning.  The webcam was working fine before this latest update.  Thanks ahead for any help.

Hi, Make sure the Shockwave Flash plugin is Enabled for one thing. I'm not familiar with Webcams so can't help you with that.
If you have Installed Flash Player then test at this site to see if you can see the animation of the Flash logo and what version is listed.
