Flash Player 9  suddenly stops working,Flash 10 won't install

Hi all!
I have been going around in circles on this.(and you can see on secondary Details what MacMini this is...an older one running Os 10.4.11) Below is a clip of the Disk RepairLog re: the Flash 9 Player suddenly not working. I downloaded the Flash Player 10 (which is all Adobe seems to want to let me do...can't get 9 again!!) It shows Permissions repaired (and I have tinkered with User Permissions too)...No Luck. When I go to Library>Internet PlugIns the Flash PlugIn won't open. I have updated Quicktime (and in Quicktime I DO NOT get the choice to enable Flash ,but a selection under Mime/older encoders..(all are checked). It's Quicktime Pro,latest version. Quicktime should display that Flash option in the Advanced Menu. Here's Clip re: Permissions:

SO....HELP...anyone know what could be happening here?
One other thing grabbed off another forum. Do any of you think this is advisable or could I make matters worse?...See Following:
Okay, solution found! It's dangerous for newbies but experienced Mac users can handle it
Go to System Preferences>Accounts. Right-click on your name on the left, and choose Advanced Options. You can now change your UID and GID. They should be 501. Set them to 0. This gives you the all-powerful (and dangerous) root access. Log out and log in again. If it happens the same for you as it did for me, you'll be scared at first if you've never done this before. The log-in process changes to the more secure form, and you may log-in as root, not as yourself at all!
That doesn't matter, though. Run the Flash Installer and it will do its thing. If you had any kind of permissions setback before this will plow right through it. The Installer opens a test page when it's done so you'll see its success. Now, immediately change your GID and UID (for your own name, of course, not the System Administrator if that's what you're logged in as now) back to 501. Log out immediately after this, and log in as yourself again. The browsers should have working Flash under your name as well. Mission Accomplished!
P.S.: Adobe can still bite it (particularly their tech "support" site), but without Flash the Internet is a much less interesting place, unfortunately, so I'm glad I got it working again.)
Thanks for any help...I can't view the multimedia content on my own web site and this makes things pretty non functional.
Liz

When Disk Utility reports failure on exit, it means there is something it can't fix. Usual solution is to use Disk Warrior or TechTool Pro to fix the problem. That Disk utility found issues with Quartz is interesting, as Quartz is OS X's foundation for it's graphics system, and coincidentally your primary issue is with Flash. It may just be coincidental, though.

  • Flash Player 9 just stopped working and won't reinstall

I am running Firefox on a MacBook (Intel Core 2 Duo, OS X v.
    10.4.9).
One minute, my Flash Player was working just fine and the
next minute I start getting messages that I need to install the
plug-in. I have repeatedly tried installing, uninstalling,
restarting, reinstalling, etc. several times and I still get the
    same message.
I looked in the 'plugins' folder for Firefox and I don't even
see the Flash plugin. It's also not working in Safari. Please help
    me get this thing working.

Thanks for responding. I took "Flash Player.plugin" and
"flashplayer.xpt" out of the Internet Plugins folder and put them
on the desktop. I ran the installer and when it tried to install
"flashplayer.xpt" It said "Error Creating File: 1008:5,-5000 Access
Denied Error" then followed immediately with "You do not have
enough access privileges for this installation." I only have one
user account on this computer and it's an Admin account so that
    really doesn't make any sense.
After I got that message, I tried also taking out "Flash
Player Enabler.plugin" and got the same message. Then I tried
Uninstalling, Restarting, and Reinstalling. Same thing happened.
I put the files back where they were.

Plug it into the charger/wall socket and let it charge for at least an hour. It just might start charging. If you have already tried charging it for a fair amount of time and it didn't work, try restoring the device with iTunes.

  • Possible Work-around: Flash Player 11.5 stops working on Firefox 17

On Windows Vista SP2, Firefox 17.01, and Flash Player 11.3 through 11.5.502.135, I have experienced repeated and consistent error messages saying that Flash Player has stopped working, and with r502.110 Firefox crashed after the first of these messages.
Googling about, I found an old (3-year plus) work-around that some clever people have applied to the current Firefox and Flashplayer, and it works for my problems on my systems:
Edit Firefox about:config, toggling the line “dom.ipc.plugins.flash.subprocess.crashreporter.enabled" from “true” to “false.” Close about:config, exit and restart Firefox.
I do not know what an equivalent might be with IE, since the problem seems to occur there, too.
I do not know whether this affects the FP sandbox, but have found no indication that FP sandbox functionality is affected or security compromised. Adobe engineers would have to answer that.
Also, while they are answering protection questions, what is the effect of disabling Flash Player Protected Mode? This has been a suggested work-around by the staff here, but no one seems to know what the security exposure would be if the sandbox is disabled.

We have a new 11.6 beta available that you might want to try.  In addition, please see this FAQ for Firefox troubleshooting steps.

  • Flash Player 9 (9.0.28.0) won't install

    Hello,
I've downloaded the flash player uninstaller from
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157&sliceId=1
and run it following the directions, and I've acquired the older
    Flash Player 9 versions from
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14266&sliceId=1.
I've tried to install the IE version of Flash Player 9.0.28.0 by
running flashplayer9r28_winax.exe but it just doesn't work.
Although some files are installed in the
C:\windows\system32\macromed\flash folder, a message flashes by
during the install process that says that flash9a.ocx can't be
    installed.
After the intall (and reboot) I've gone to
    http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_15507
to check the Flash Player version, but nothing shows up. This is
very frustrating, and I cannot find any information on what is
happening or why. Anyone who can provide any insight, please post
here, and thanks in advance for your help.
edited: OK, I also tried the 9.0.45.0 version, and instead of
installing it pops up a message telling me that it's not the latest
version of Flash Player, and I should visit adobe.com to get the
latest. WTF? This is supposed to let me test older versions?

Hi, thanks. The Flash Player vs 10.0.22.87 is an older version, so must be Uninstalled first. Now on the Firefox reflecting a different version I would think would only be possible if you Installed a version with FF and the 10.0.22.87 with a different browser. Re-check that version number for FP for Firefox, I think a digit is missing.
You can test each browser at this Adobe site. It will tell you what version of Flash Player is Installed. Also you should be able to see the Flash logo animation.
    http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
That way you'll know for sure which version you have Installed.
Here is the link for the website that has the System Requirements which may help.
    http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/systemreqs/
I don't know why you would have received that message about a newer version being on your system. At least not until you determine what version actually is. Perhaps there are mixed files Installed.
    Thanks,

  • Printer Stopped Working - Driver Won't Install

My printer stopped working, and I have been trying to reinstall the printer driver, but the computer keeps saying that I need "Administrator privileges" to install it, though I AM the administrator for this computer.
    Any suggestions?

Go to Disk Utility and repair the permissions for the computer. Takes a while though, so go get a cup of coffee or something.

  • Firefox stopped working and won't install after I uninstall and reinstall.

Firefox stopped working one day. It would not load anything. I followed the directions and completely uninstalled and then reinstalled Firefox. It goes through the process and then says Firefox will load momentarily. It never does. Also, what do you have against hiring people to answer questions in person?

It is possible that your security software (firewall, anti-virus) blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

  • Flash Player Suddenly Stopped Working on Chrome, I.E. and FF

As with many other posters, the latest version of flash player (fp) suddenly stopped working on FireFox, Chrome and Internet Explorer!  I uninstalled fp using the fp uninstaller and attempted to reinstall it, but it would not download on FireFox nor Internet Explorer (Chrome has a built-in fp).  Therefore, I did a system restore to an earlier date hoping this would solve the problem.  It did not.  I have also unticked hardware acceleration, still nothing.
If anyone has found a solution, please let me know.  Thanking you all in advance.

Fortunately, I found my answer.  I went into the Adobe Global Settings (http://www.macromedia.com/support/documentation/en/flashplayer/help/settings_manager03.htm l ) and checked  "Allow third party flash content to store data on your computer".  Hopefully this may help someone else.

  • Shockwave Flash Object Suddenly Stopped Working but Works in IE

I am using a shockwave flash object (mp3 player) that has been working in Firefox for months but now has suddenly stopped working. The player doesn't even show up on the webpage.
The odd thing is that this player shows up and works perfectly in IE but other browsers exhibit the same problem as Firefox.

We're in the process of figuring this out with Google.  I've read reports that the Chrome beta channel does not have this problem, but your mileage may vary.  Please see this Chrome bug report for details.

    I need help.....
Chrome uses a different and separate plug-in.
There are things about IE you need to know, especially 11. Specifically:
    "User-Agent Strings"
That doesn't mean a lot, I'm sure, but it's the root of your problems, and Flash Player has nothing to do with it.
Microsoft "rewrote" the User-Agent Strings for the abomination they call their latest and greatest browser. User-Agent Strings are what websites use to identify the browser you're using and provide the proper content for it's browser engine, like ActiveX stuff, and Flash or HTML5 video. Thanks to the geniuses in Redmond, WA, the User-Agent Strings for IE11 (which has a Trident engine), ID it as either "Gecko" (Firefox) or "Webkit" (Chrome). Problem is: when the site the directs to the content for one of these two engines, the Trident engine in IE can't intepret it and the site then sees IE as an "unidentified" browser.
The problem with an unidentified browser is that the plug-ins in that browser aren't recognized either, so even though you're up to date, it says you need the latest Flash Player when you use IE11. YouTube... has converted to HTML5 video so if it doesn't detect Flash Player, it can display HTML5 (MP4) video which requires no plug-in to play. Facebook can't do that, because HTML5 doesn't apply to games... only video.
Microsoft has no plans to "fix" the mess they've created because they think it's a great idea to block you out of the websites you visit.
They recommend using "Compatibility View" and pretending that you're using an older verison of IE... Problem with that is that it's seen limited success, and you have to enable it for EVERY page that has problems... individually.
I'm not big on "pretending" so I recommend actually using another browser.
    Firefox (from Mozilla)
    Opera (from Opera)
    Safari (from Apple)
    Chrome (from Google)
ANY of those will work where IE11 won't, with the Flash Player Plug-in (For all other browsers), and Chrome doesn't even need that because it has its own Flash Player plugin built in.
