Flash player Activex issue

Hi, apologies new to this forum and not too computer savvy.
I have installed Flash Player 10.1.85.3 onto my windows XP computer.  (Sorry dont know how to check if 32 or 64 bit).
I use both IE & firefox to browse the web.  I do not know if this is connected but when I browse on IE i get promps as to whether i want to open activex control which I dont get on firefox?
I have just bought a Western Digital Network attatched storage hard drive and have tried to install it.  However, I get an error message "to run this program version 9 or greater of the flash activex control is needed.  It will be automatically installed".  When I press OK, i get firther message, " Adobe flash player Activex set up.  The version of adobe flash player activex that you are trying to install is not the most current version.  please visit http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer to obtain the lastest most secure version".  The software will then not continue to allow me to load for the hard drive.
i have checked on Adobe what flash player I have installed on my computer and note that I have flash player 10.1.85.3 installed.  When I check my add/remove programs I do not see this program, all I see is  Adobe AIR, Adobe flash player 10 plugin, Adobe reader 9.4, Adobe shockwave player 11, (i do note that the adobe flashplayer 10 plugin does not show any size).
When I installed Flash player 10, at the end of the process I did get an error message "activex control for flash player could not be registered".  However, it would appear that the flash player did install?
Can anyone help me and guide me through what I need to do, please!!  If any more info is needed, just ask but you may have to tell me where and how I can retrieve that info, Sorry!

Firefox does not use ActiveX (it uses plugins instead); that's why you don't get that message on FF.

It appears as if that software is trying to install an old version of Flash Player.  If I were in your situation I would try one of the following:
uninstall your current Flash Player using the uninstaller from http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html (all browser windows must be closed when running the uninstaller), then try installing that driver again.
go to the Western Digital Network website and look if a newer driver is available.

  • Controlling autoupdate of Adobe Flash Player ActiveX with mms.cfg file

    For several years we have suppressed Flash Player ActiveX from autoupdating by using the mms.cfg file, with the setting "AutoUpdateDisable=1" -- and it has worked without a problem.
    With the constant updates of Flash Player for security reasons, we decided several months ago to change the autoupdate setting and allow Flash Player ActiveX to update automatically, without notifying the user, checking every seven days.  We changed the mms.cfg file to this:
    AutoUpdateDisable=0
    AutoUpdateInterval=7
    SilentAutoUpdateEnable=1
    We are using Windows 7 64-bit, so the mms.cfg file was copied/updated to: C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash, as well as C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash
    The problem we are randomly seeing across our 2500+ computers is a notification that a Flash Player update is available.  This is occurring on machines with the mms.cfg file in place.
    Does anyone else have this same issue?  We were also wondering if the encoding of the file, i.e., ANSI or UTF-8, has any bearing on the effectiveness of this mms.cfg file. Or has a registry setting been updated overriding the mms.cfg?
    We believe the file is encoded in UTF-8, but it is difficult to be 100% certain of this.
    Screenshot of the auto-update notification:
    Thanks
    Currently running Flash Player ActiveX 11.9.900

    You're right, it sounds very malwareish, but they will know more in the Flash Player forum  http://forums.adobe.com/community/flashplayer . This is teh Adobe Reader forum. When you post there, a screen shot may help.

  • The version of Adobe Flash Player ActiveX that you are trying to install is not the most current v

    I'm installing Flash Player on my Windows 7 64-bit OS using IE 8 32-bit. The installation terminates and the log file contains the following. (Please note, this log file was in "C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash"). Flash player (32-bit) has been working, but just currently quit working. Advise please.

    That's a good question. I may have installed FP 10.1 Beta in many of the attempts to resolve the issue. I've scanned my registry for any reference to Flash and removed anything that remotely resembles Flash Player (of course backing up Registry first). I've run uninstall_flash_player.exe, which doesn't appear to do anything. I've checked logs and there's no reference to Flash Player being installed.
    When I go to the link provided ( http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/) I get the messageThe version of Adobe® Flash® Player ActiveX that you are trying to install is not the most current version. Please visit http://www.adobe.com/go/getflashplayer to obtain the latest, most secure version. and when I look at the log (install.log) I see an attempt to install Flash Player. • How to install old version of Flash Player ActiveX

    Hello,
    I have to install Flash Player ActiveX 10.1.x or 10.3.x because it is required by my application. 11.x version I tried made issues.
    I downloaded various 10.x versions : they all told me that this version is not the newest => I can only quit the installation.
    How can I avoid that message ?
    What does Adobe care which version I want to install because I have to ?????
    Thank you for your help !

    Please run the appropriate uninstaller linked below.  That should allow you to run older installers without receiving that error.
    Windows 32-bit: http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/uninstall_flash _player_32bit.exe
    Windows 64-bit: http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/uninstall_flash _player_64bit.exe

  • How to Rollback Flash Player ActiveX

    Hi,
    I need to rollback my Flash Player ActiveX from 9.0.115.0 to
    9.0.45.0.
    I have downloaded and used the Uninstall Flash exe (latest
    one) to remove Flash ActiveX.
    I had closed out of all programs then rebooted my computer.
    I tried to install Flash Player ActiveX 9.0.45.0 but I get a
    popup that says
    " The verison of Adobe Flash Player ActiveX that you aer
    trying to install is not the most current verison. Please visit
    http:\\www.adob....... to obtain the latest, most secure version."
    First of all I have done the uninstall so how would the
    program know that 9.0.45.0 is not the latest even when I have
    unplugged my internet connection and second of all how can I by
    pass this pop up to install 9.0.45.0.
    Any help would be much appreciated.
    Thank you,

    First solution:
    Documented on Adobe Flash Player Support Site:
    http://www.adobe.com/go/kb402435
    Download the uninstaller for Flash Player from "How to
    uninstall the Adobe Flash Player plug-in and ActiveX control"
    http://www.adobe.com/go/tn_14157
    1. Select Start.
    2. Select Run.
    3. Type cmd
    4. In the command window, type the following:
    uninstall_flash_player.exe /clean
    5. This will remove all entries in the system registry and
    resolve this issue.
    Note: The uninstall_flash_player.exe file must be saved to
    the same directory that the command window is in, for example C:\.
    Second solution:
    Open the system registry, but do so at your own risk.
    1. Select Start and choose Run
    2. Type in ‘regedit’
    3. Navigate to
    HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Macromedia\FlashPlayer\SafeVersions
    Delete the entry for 9.0 on the right panel of the system
    registry
    Install Flash Player.

  • Flash player activeX is gone missing

    Our users are using Windows XP, IE7. We have just recently updated the flash player to 10.0.45. Ever since the flash version 10.1.53 released, our user keep complaining that they cannot browse flash website, such as youtube. I went to their system and found that the flash player activex is gone missing from Add/Remove programs. Even after I manually update their flash to version 10.1.53, some of the users still getting the same issue: flash player activex is gone missing automatically! Users don't have adminsitrator privillege. So they can't remove the program by themselves. Does anybody experience the same issue? Is it caused by the release of new flash? Every time a new flash released, when user browse a flash website, such as youtube, it will prompt user to get the latest version. Most of the user don't know they can't update the flash without administrator right, so they will click on the update link and attempt to install the update. Will this cause the current flash get uninstalled? If this is the reason, can we turn off the udpate warning and keep the current version as long as we want?

    Thanks, Willener. The link does provide a solution to turn off the update notification on a single machine. But in our environment, we have about 500 users. We cannot go to each of their machine and turn off the notification. If I want to turn off the notification globally, is there a way I can do it by changing user's registry with AD group policy?
    I found some information from Adobe site. We can create a file name mms.cfg. Inside this file, there is one key and value: AutoUpdateDisable=1. If we put this file in to user's (XP users) c:\windows\system32\macromed\flash, then it is supposed to turn off the update notification. I have tried this on our test machine but after a few days, the flash player activex 10.1.53 still gone missing, without any warning message.
    I am unsure that the flash player activex's gone missing is caused by user attempt to update it without administrator privillege. Let's say youtube had been working fine with flash player activex 10.0.45, how could it suddenly stop working as the 10.1.53 released, which force user to click on the "you need to update your flash player" link from the flash website.

  • Adobe Flash Player ActiveX deployment doesn´t work in SCCM 2012 R2

    I´ve created an Application to deploy Adobe Flash Player 15.0.0.189 (last version). I´ve tried to deploy with the msi downloaded from Adobe site, using Powershell App Deploy Toolkit, bat script.. but nothing seems to work 100%.
    I have 2500 computers in my company. Working with SCCM 2012 R2.
    Some computers doesn´t install;
    Some install it but Internet Explorer seems to loose this configuration and doesn´t open flash videos;
    Some install but doesn´t uinstall the last version, then you can see two diferent versions installed;
    Do you have a definitive solution to deploy Adobe Flash Player via SCCM?

  • I can not install flash player activeX

    Hi, For some reason I had to uninstall Flash Player Plugin Istaller Active X and Flash Player. Although he has performed all procedures and automatic aid two days have passed and I can not install the Active X control As part of the 'install it I get a notification saying actual words (translated from Italian into English):
    The Adobe Flash Player ActiveX is not attempting to install the latest. Visit http://......................player_it to get the latest and most secure.
    This message appears just downloading from the site recommended and everything is really frustrating. My OS is VISTA64x Home Premium and the problem persists on both IE8 IE8 x64 x32.
    Also stress that I have not installed any ActiveX flash player so why do I feel that I try to install the version that is not especially since the most recent discharge from the link that that message would you recommend?
    I hope someone is able to say once and for all how to solve this problem.
    Sincerly Jinjetto

    Hi, glad that worked for you. Also thanks for the explanation as how you came about this. Yes, from my understanding any Install of the CS5, even a trial version Installs the 10.1 (beta/prerelease) versions. It is not clear to me or others why the 10.1 was used in the CS5 instead of the latest version (10.0.45.2). My only guess is that the 10.1 is very close to being released as a shipping version (final release) to the public. The 10.1 had a target date of the first half of 2010. Perhaps that was the reasoning. This is just my opinion:-)
    As I said, many users are having this problem, not just with the CS5, but they Install the 10.1 thinking that will solve whatever problem they may be having with the latest version.
    Your thread is very helpful for other users that may be having the exact problem that you were. For this reason if you marked your thread as answered, they would read it first.
    Thanks,

  • Flash Player ActiveX-Version 11.8.800.174

    For showing graphical graphics in 2D and 3D in our Visual basic application we use the Fusion Charts component.
    This Component use Flash Player ActiveX components.
    My application works on the development server, but if we distribute this to our customers it doesn't work. The Graphics are not fully displayed.
    We checked the Flash player ActiveX components on the server and these from our customers.
    The customers have the version 11.8.800.168 (which is the latest version according the adobe site), but on the development server we have a newer version 11.8.800.174.
    We would like to download this version also on the server of our customers, but we can't find it to download?
    1 customer has the version 11.1.102.62 and this one is also working correct.
    All is running under windows XP SP3.
    How can we get this version 11.8.800.174 on the server of our customers?

    Hey Chris,
    Thanks for the answer.
    I have successfully downloaded the latest version 11.8.800.174 at the server of our customers, but I still have the same problem with the graphics of the program.
    See the pictures of the version 11.8.800.174 ware the graphics isn’t totally visible.
    But on the development server there is now problem with this version.
    Customers server:
    Windows XP PRO 32bit, service pack 3
    Flash player 11.8.800.174 no full graphics visible
    When the graphics is build, he shows the graphics full for 1 second and then he displayed a black window before the graphics?
    Flash player 11.5.502.149 the graphics is full visible (see picture)
    If I update to version 11.6.602.171 the problem begins.
    Development server:
    Windows XP PRO 32 bit, service pack 2
    Flash player 11.8.800.174 graphics OK

  • Flash Player ActiveX 10.2.153.1 supported on VDI ?

    I am seeking following information on Flash Player ActiveX 10.2.153.1 in regards to MS Virtual Desktop Infrastructure compatibility, below are questions:
    Is the application – Flash Player ActiveX 10.2.153.1 supported on Windows 7 x64 desktop virtualised on Windows Server 2008 R2 Hyper-V presented by Citrix XenDesktop 5.5/5.6 ?
    Is the virtualization of the application supported ? [We are Planning to virtualize the Application using Microsoft App-V/Citrix ] ?
    Is the application supported if installed on Virtual Machines [VDI] ?
    Does the Application’s current License Policy support if the Application is virtualized ?
    Does the Application’s current License policy support the Application on Virtual Machines?
    If not is there any license policy that supports the Application on Virtual Machines ?

    I'm looking into the licensing questions and I'll post back when I get additional information. I'd recommend taking a look at our License Agreement Page for the FAQ and actual license agreement.
    As for "support" for VM/virtualized images, native Win 7x64 is supported, but we did not officially test for virtualized environments.  However, many internal team members use Windows under VM environments during daily use.  Your mileage my vary.  I’d suggest trying it out and if you run into problems feel free to add new bugs over at bugbase.adobe.com.
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • How do I update Flash Player ActiveX & Plugin from an internal server at once?

    At work we're using both, Flash Player ActiveX and Plugin, because of the use of different Browsers. We have set up a Background Update from our internal server.
    By updating via "FlashPlayerUpdateService.exe", only the ActiveX Extension gets updated and the Plugin doesn't.
    But if I do it in that order: Install ActiveX → Update → Install Plugin → Update, both Extensions get updated.
    Here's the mms.cfg:
    AutoUpdateDisable=0
    SilentAutoUpdateEnable=1
    SilentAutoUpdateServerDomain=[our server]
    SilentAutoUpdateVerboseLogging=1
    Is there a possibility to update both Extensions from an internal server at once?

    Hi Jak,
    Normally, the Plugin will update about an hour after the ActiveX, however, I'm seeing some codes in the log file I'd like to investigate further.  Please provide the following:
    Post your currentmajor.xml file using these instructions How to share a document.  Please don't copy and paste the contents, upload the actual file.
    Screenshot of your server directory structure for the Background Updates.  See  How to post a screenshot in the forum
    What is the version number of the FlashPlayerUpdateService.exe file?  The version number is in the 'details' tab when viewing file properties (right-click > Properties > Details)This file will be in C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash on a 32-bit OS machine and in C:\Windows\SysWOW64\Macromed\Flash on a 64-bit OS machine.
    Screenshot of the \Macromed\Flash directory.  If 64-bit OS, post screenshots of both 32- and 64-bit locations.
    Thank you in advance.

  • Please help... flash player updating issues...

    trying to update version 6.0r25... i downloaded the installer
    for version r79, and when i run it, it says it cant locate the
    plugins folder... so when i try to install without it, or make a
    folder for it, the install program just freezes up....
    have tried unsuccessfully to install for the last 10-15
    minutes, and same problem.. just continues to freeze..
    could you please help with assistance on this matter..
    thanks so much..

    I suspect this is a Yahoo problem. They'll need to update
    their Flash Plaeyr detection. I wrote about it yesterday in several
    threads on this forum, and in my blog at
    http://bentimagemedia.com/.
    You should contact them immediately and let them know.
    I ran a quick test and I had no problem using chat in FireFox
    with the FP10 plugin. It only failed when I tried it in IE6 with
    the FP10 ActiveX control (see below). Make a note of this when you
    contact yahoo.
    In the meantime, I'll see if we have any connections at yahoo
    that we can ping on our side..
    <<PS: Please note that I also have 'Adobe Flash Player
    9 ActiveX' installed as I use Firefox 3.0.3 on a Windows XP SP3
    system and sometimes some website components don't function without
    this ActiveX software.>>
    This is incorrect. The Flash Player ActiveX control is only
    used with IE Windows. All other browsers and platforms use the
    Flash Player plugin.
