Flash player can't play a .swf file alone

I've have a weird issue regarding flash.
I used Flash CS5 to create an interactive presentation. Everything works perfectly.
My problem is, for some unknown reason, everytime I try to open a stand alone .swf using flash player, the player always opens my interactive presentation instead  and tries to load the .swf INTO it. Using the finder's info window, when I do select a .swf, I get the information all my .swf have been changed to "interactive presentation files", and the default application assigned to open these files is my own presentation.
I can manually change these settings to select Flash player or Flash CS5 back as the default application for all .swf's, but as soon as I close the info window, the files immediately becomes "interactive presentation" files again, so Flash player insists in openning the fiels inside my presentation.
There's a permanent way to fix this?
I'm using a Mac Intel core duo 2.
EDIT: I temporarily solved the problem deleting all copies of my presentation's projector. The flash player atemmpted to use another presentation instead to open .swf files, so I deleted that one too. After that, now plays the .swf files as normal. The only problem is, if for any reason I do re-install any of my interactive presentations proyectors, Flash player  immediately tries to use them to play the .swf's... so the problem really remains unsolved.

The web flash player does not play stand alone .swf files on your computer.

  • Can you play/view swf files on adobe air for android?

Hi, yes; I'm new here, as well as to Adobe Air, and I'm still trying to learn the ropes around here, and I apologize in advance if this has already been asked, or I have placed this question in the wrong forum.
The thing is, I was wondering if it was possible to play my SWF files via adobe air for android; and if so, how? Thanks in advance either way.

Can you please give directions where can i clear that cash.
Anyway i don`t think its the case, because this is first time i hooked phone to internet, and first time i launched Android app store.
    Edit:
I went to https://market.android.com and there is Adobe air app. But when i try to download it says that my device doesn't support it (Samsung Galaxy GT-I5500) By default it comes with android 2.1 and doesn't support Adobe air, but i upgraded firmware to 2.2.
Maybe that is the reason it doesn't show me Adobe AIR in app store - based on my phone, not my Android version ?

  • Why my quicktime player can't play an mpeg file

I have a quicktime player that goes with snow leopard mac-os, but this does not play with an mpeg file dvd

QuickTime X and QuickTime Player 7.6.6 can't play MPEG-2 formats without additional software.
DVD Player should be used, instead.

  • How can I play many swf files back to back in AS3

    I have many swf files
    fileA.swf , fileB.swf, fileC.swf
I want to play them from a MainFile.swf  back to back, fileA.swf , then fileB.swf then fileC.swf ...then to remove them and have the MainFile.swf only.
How is this done in AS3.
can anyone send me the code needed to do this. i don't know AS3 very well. I know how to do this in AS2 , i used to put code loadmovie in each files last frame that loaded the next file to a mc object in the mainfile.
I would apprciate to have all the code appear only in the main file without haveing to code each seperate swf file.

You should work out how to do it with just one file first in AS3.  The approach to doing many sequencially would be similar to what you did in AS2... the simplest way being to add a command at the end of each swf to trigger the main file to remove it and add the next swf.  I don't know of any way to detect the end of an swf... it has to tell you it's done.
In AS3 you use the Loader class to load swf and image files.  You use the addChild family of methods to place things on the stage, and you use the removeChild family to get them out of the picture.

  • Safari can't play these .swf files...?

I just get a white window. They play in Firefox. Why not Safari?

swf is flash, which that site has not implemented well.
These are the downloads and the settings you need in order to view/hear pretty much everything that the net can throw at you: The setup described below has proved repeatedly successful on both PPC and Intel macs, but nothing in life carries a guarantee!
It is known to work in the great majority of cases with Safari 3.0.4, QT 7.3 and OS 10.4.11.
Assuming you already run Tiger versions OS 10.4.9 or above (this has not yet been verified with Leopard) and have Quicktime 7.2 or above, and are using Safari 2 or 3, download and install (or re-install even if you already had them) the latest versions, suitable for your flavor of Mac, of:
    RealPlayer 10 for Mac from http://forms.real.com/real/player/blackjack.html?platform2=Mac%20OS%20X&product= RealPlayer%2010&proc=g3&lang=&show_list=0&src=macjack
Flip4Mac WMV Player from http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windowsmedia/player/wmcomponents.mspx (Windows Media Player for the Mac is no longer supported, even by Microsoft)
    Perian from http://perian.org/
    Adobe FlashPlayer from http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/download.cgi?P1ProdVersion=ShockwaveFlash
(You can check here: http://www.adobe.com/products/flash/about/ to see which version you should install for your Mac and OS.)
In Quicktime Preferences, under advanced, UNcheck Enable Flash, and under Mime settings/Miscellananeous only check Quicktime HTML (QHTM).
In Macintosh HD/Library/Quicktime/ delete any files relating to DivX (Perian already has them).
Now go to Safari Preferences/Security, and tick the boxes under Web Content (all 4 of them).
Lastly open Audio Midi Setup (which you will find in the Utilities Folder of your Applications Folder) and click on Audio Devices. Make sure that both Audio Input and Audio Output, under Format, are set to 44100 Hz.
Important: Now repair permissions and restart.
The world should now be your oyster!
You should also have the free VLC Player from http://www.videolan.org/ in your armory, as this plays almost anything that DVD Player might not.

  • I've installed Flash Player, why can't I play a swf file?

I'm trying to play a swf file in Windows 7. I've been able to do this before many times, using Flash Player, but it doesn't work now. I've recently done a complete reinstall of Windows 7 and my apps, and this is the first time I've tried to play a swf file since then.
When I double-click a swf file, I get the "Windows can't open this file" dialog box. If I select "Use the web service..." it takes me to the Adobe website Flash Player installation page. (I've installed it previously, and I've installed it - twice - today.) If I select "Select a program from a list...", the list doesn't include Flash Player, though it does allow me to play the file in a browser.
Some of my swf files I created with Captivate, and published them with an html file. When I open the html file, the swf file plays properly. Shouldn't I be able to play the swf file in the player, without opening the html file?
Should I be able to see the player in my start menu programs, or in the Programs folder? I can't find it on my computer. Is there something else I need to install?

  • HT5271 Downloaded latest Apple updates that informed me old versions of Adobe Flash Player were disabled and advised me to go to Adobe and down load latest version of Flash Player. Did that, but Flash Player won't play swf files, which it did before.

    Hi..
    Quit Safari.
Open System Preferences > Flash Player then select the Advanced tab.
    Click:  Delete All
    Now select the Storage tab.
    Click Delete All
    Relaunch Safari to test.

  • Differences between the 2 ways to play local swf files in flash player

There are 2 ways to allow the flash player to play local swf files:
Add the directory/file of the swf to the Global Flash Player Trust directory. http://help.adobe.com/en_US/ActionScript/3.0_ProgrammingAS3/WS5b3ccc516d4fbf351e63e3d118a9 b90204-7c95.html
Add the directory/file of the swf to the Trusted Location Settings in the Local Settings Manager.http://help.adobe.com/en_US/FlashPlayer/LSM/WS6aa5ec234ff3f285139dc56112e3786b68c-7ff0.htm l#WS6aa5ec234ff3f285139dc56112e3786b68c-7fea
Adobe doesn't mentioned in the document what's the differences between these 2 methods, and they look has the same effect. But when I'm doing it on OS X, Safari 6.1, the first method doesn't work (It was working when I was using Safari 6.0). And then I tried method 2, it works…
So I'd like to ask what are the differences between these 2 methods to play local swf files?

For playing local SWF files, Download the Macintosh Flash Player 11.9 Projector
It's a standalone app. Just copy it to your Applications folder. Launch it, and drag the SWF to the Dock icon. It'll play.

  • Can I import a swf file (created in FC) into Flash?

Can I import a swf file (created in FC) into Flash?
...also, do you need Flash Player 10 to play these files?

Just did some testing here, and Flash Professional definitely does not like Catalyst projects. Importing to the stage failed silently (gotta love that), while Import to Library appeared to work - I got a MovieClip in my library. However, the clip is empty. I'd guess it is as Chris said, having to do with the fundamental differences in the Flex framework from the way Flash Pro works.
As this did spark my curiosity, I decided to give loading the Catalyst-created project into a Flash Pro project at runtime using ActionScript. I was able to at least get the Catalyst content to appear through this method, but the effects (in this case, a simply button with a Rotate3D effect applied) was a mess.
So the simple answer is "no".

  • How can I import a .swf file in Adobe Flash CS4?

    Hi,
How can I import a .swf file in Adobe Flash CS4?
    Thanks.

you can use file/import but that would be a mistake.
you should "load" your swf, not import it.
if you want to load it and need help, are you using as2 or as3?

My QuickTime player us not playing .avi files and says I need a codec I can't play no .avi files on QuickTime. How could I fix this because I want to play these files with QuickTime.

Hmm . . . comes with a Utility MPEG2 Component ML app with no explanation of what it's for?
The utility app is an "assistant PKG installer." It allows Lion and Mountain Lion users to install the older QT MPEG-2 Playback Component installer PKG file which is not allowed to run on its own under Lion or Mountain Lion since these operating systems already have a QT X only MPEG-2 component embedded in the QT embedded structure. Without this utility you would have to either copy the component from an older system to your Lion or Mountain Lion system, use Pacifist for installation, or manually open the PKG contents and transfer the component to the appropriate component folder.
As to your "discussion" regarding the playback of AVI file types, there are really only two strategies here:
    1) You can add component support so that QT can play the files natively or
    2) You can convert the file contents to compression formats that are natively compatible with the unmodified QT component configuration.
Each user should decide for his or her own self which approach best suits their needs for a particular source file. In most cases, conforming the system's codec component configuration to play the source file directly results in higher video quality since no transcoding takes place but this strategy will not work if a codec which is required is not available for the user's operating system. On the other hand, converter utilities tend to support more built-in codecs and are easier to use since the user does not have to concern him or herself with the nature of the particular source compression formats but at the risk of some potential loss in visual quality. As to what converter to use, once again this is a matter of personal choice. In the case of commercial converters like iSkysoft, the codecs are built in while MPEG Streamclip accesses the host operating system's QT codec component configuration. I personally prefer the free HandBrake app for AVI, MKV, TS, MTS, and M2TS conversions since it has an exceptionally full-featured X.264 GUI with some user options that 97% of users are likely to never use.

  • Problem playing an swf file created in Bridge

    Hello everyone
I have created an web gallery using Bridge and tried playing a swf file containing the slideshow with no luck. When I double-click the file, it open an Adobe Flash Player window but a spiral appears at the centre and just keeps turning. Because my intention is to upload the swf file to a website, I really need to get the file to play the slideshow.
Has anyone succeeded in making a standalone swf file using Bridge or any other Adobe product? If so, please let me know how to.
    Thank you,
    Pom

    Henk,
I'm not on 3.0 so I can't help you out, but I would suggest re-posting on the Enterprise Administration portion, perhaps it'll get more notice there for a resolution.
    Thanks,
    John

  • Is it possible to play a swf file over html, but still be able to click on the html site below?

I have a website built in html, with normal clickable content - a few buttons scattered around the centre.
An absolute positioned div sits on top of the site and plays a swf file which moves out of view and stops. I have set everything to transparent and the user can see the site below as it is revealed.
But once the swf file has moved off screen, none of the content is clickable (as I suppose the flash object is still there).
I've no idea if this is normal, or if there is a work around so that the user can reach the html content below after the anim has moved out of the way... ?

I'm sorry I wasn't very clear. When I just try to open the SWF file by double clicking it, it opens in FireFox and it is resized to fit the screen.  When I open the html file that flash provides it looks great, it is the perfect dimensions.  There is probably no way to make the swf file limit it's size when it is opened by itself, I just wanted to hear someone say it.

VLC plugs directly into pulseaudio, while the firefox flash plugin uses ALSA to play sound.  Do you have the pulseaudio-alsa package installed?
I have had a similar problem before.  Sound would occasionally be controlled by ALSA and occasionally be controlled by pulse (the pulseaudio-alsa package did nothing).  As far as symptoms, sometimes other applications would not produce sound while a flash video was playing and vice versa.  Ultimately, I just removed everything pulse/ALSA-related, deleted (and backed up) my configuration files, and installed all related packages anew.  It works now.  I still don't really know what the problem was.

Yes, I have an idea.  The Media Manager video streaming is nowhere near ready for prime-time and should not have been released in its current buggy version.
I've had it through beta testing and it has NEVER consistently imported and subsequently played many of my videos, despite being in a supported format.  I don't see any progress being made on this, but they released it anyways.
