Download the Adobe Flash Player installer directly by right clicking the following link: Flash Player for ActiveX (Internet Explorer) and selecting "Save target as".
Save it to your Downloads folder - DO NOT run it yet.
Reboot your system.
BEFORE opening anything else, go to your Downloads folder and run the installer.
If IE still gives you trouble, see: Enabling Flash Player in Internet Explorer and ActiveX Filtering in Internet Explorer to be sure it's enabled and ActiveX isn't blocking content.

I get this if using chrome or safari .
I can go direct to YouTube it just works.

The Facebook link to the video is accessing an Adobe Flash video. Unfortunately, no iOS devices can play flash.

I have Windows 7 on a 64-bit operating system, and have Firefox 19 and Internet Explorer 8. I tried installing Flash Player 11.6.602.171 from the Adobe Website and got an error message right at 47% download "can not contact reliable source." I also tried uninstalling whatever Flash Player I had, but I continued to get the same error message at 47% "can not contact reliable source." Finally, following the advice found in the link below under "Program Bar Hangs During Download," I downloaded Flash Player ActiveX (internet explorer) and Flash Player Plug-In (all other browsers). It appeared that both downloads were successful and I verified that the installation was complete in the link below under "Verify that installation is complete." It says I have Flash Player 11.6.602.171. My issue now is that whenever I watch videos that use Flash Player, the downloading of videos is extremely slow. For example, a 45 second youtube video might take 30 minutes to watch. This is not a message that Adobe is providing, and I recommend that you not click on the link. It sounds as though you might have malware on your computer.

Assuming Allan's advice is not correct, and you do run the installer, I think I've heard of that problem and it involves removing the old Flash plug-ins, then install the new version. I don't use it so I don't know what they are called, but will be the /Library/Internet Plug-ins folder.
You can go here and enable HTML5 in YouTube so you don't have to use Flash: http://www.youtube.com/html5
Most(?) of the content is HTML5, but you may run into videos where you still need Flash.

Apologies for the slightly pedantic answer, but in application terms, "closed" and "quit" are two different things. An application such as Safari can have several windows open, and each of them can be closed using the red button in the corner.
However, even after all windows are closed, the application is still running until you specifically quit it. You can tell it's still running by the small light under its icon in the Dock. If you hold your cursor down on the icon for a few seconds, you should see a pop up menu with the "Quit" option - click that to quit it. Or, click the icon once (this may launch a new window), then either go to the Safari menu and click Quit, or click cmd-Q, to completely quit the app.

The message requesting that you download Adobe Flash Player takes you to FP requireing an Intel processor. Doesn't work on a PowerPC processor. I fould a hack, installed it & it works with Firefox, TenFourFox & Safari.
Download this http://www.steelbin.com/FPforFBPPC.zip to your desktop, unzip it, and replace the current Flash Player plug-in which is in your main/Library/Internet Plug-Ins folder, (not the user Library). Save the old one just in case this one doesn't work.

Exactly where did you download Flash from, if you did not download it from

you did not get an authorized version.
If you did and it still does not work then you should be in touch with one of the Flash Player or Adobe help forums, because it's an Adobe product they would know best how to troubleshoot issues.

You really don't need to do "secure Empty Trash." Just empty the Trash. If you don't have permission to access some items that means you shouldn't be trying to delete them or you are trying to delete a file you don't own.
If your external drive is used only on your Mac, then it should not be formatted ExFAT. It should be prepared as follows:
Drive Partition and Format
1. Open Disk Utility in your Utilities folder.
2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
3. Under the Volume Scheme heading set the number of partitions from the drop down menu to one. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID then click on the OK button. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Apply button and wait until the process has completed.
4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Security button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Try restarting the computer. Then again try to Empty the Trash. Do you still get the error? What are you trying to delete?
