Flash player eats up memory until it crashes, can't watch full SWF

Can anybody please help me out with this. I have a 180mb SWF which is a lecture from one of my online classes, when i try to watch it i can watch about 20 minutes and then it will run out of memory. I watched in my task manager as Flash player went from only using 20mb to upwards of 500mb to 1000mb and it kept going up, it's like the more i watch it just keeps going up and up. Tried it on 3 different computers and still get the same problem, is there some reason this would be happening?  Why does flash player eat up so much memory?  I have Adobe Flash CS4 installed so it's playing through the player not a web browser or anything.
(tried it in web browser and it does the same thing)
Please help i have a test coming up!
Thank you!

Hi,
Based on my understanding it seems that there is a problem with the coding from your Flash Animation. I am not quite sure how that animation was created. Is there an embedded video in it? Did you create it? I just wanted to get more details about the file.
Thanks,
Vicente Tulliano.

    Hi,
What operating system is your computer running on?
Please click on this link to verify if Flash Player has beenn successfully installed : About Flash Player
If it cannot detect Flash Player, use this link to download the full installers : http://forums.adobe.com/thread/909550
The page which the link directs you to should also show the version of Flash Player installed.
Please verify if that meets the requirement for the software you are trying to use.
Also, when you try to use the products you've mentioned, what is the exact error message you see?
    Thanks

  • Flash Player uses excessive memory when in use for a long time.

    Good morning,
I'm using firefox with flash player viewing streaming video from www.bloomberg.com/tv/us.The longer this runs the more user memory it uses (from Windows Task Manager, Processes tab).
I had this site running for about 4 houres and at that time it was using 1.7 GB memory and the video was  getting eratic. This shows up in a file called "plug-incontainer.exe". I terminated the process and flash player disappeared with a message the said "flash player has crashed".
It doesn't matter if I use Flash Player 10 or 11 or Firefox 3.6 or 21.01.
This also occurs with Internet explorer Ver. 8 except it's manifested in a second instance of Iexplore. Same creeping memory useage.
OS is Windows Xp sp2, processor is a 3GHz hyperthreading P4 with 2GB of installed memory.
I really don't think it should do this.

Was the computer turned off or asleep? It won't hurt to have it taken off. Normally I wouldn't worry about it unless it was going to be a few more months.

  • Flash Player eats RAM

    Nice job guys.
Flash player, when viewing a video, consumes RAM at a
    ferocious rate.
It continues to do so as long as the video is playing. If you
watch the same video twice without closing it, it will suck twice
    as much memory.
Watch long enough without closing, your machine will
evenutally start thrashing the page file and ultimately crash.
Heh Adobe, this is 2007. You do know how to make a "free()"
call when you're done with a "malloc()'d" block of RAM, right?
Flash player is pretty much REQUIRED nowdays for most web
sites. This is blowing up people left and right that are trying to
view my Camtasia videos - I'm fixing to tell the Mac Users and
Adobe users to get screwed and start pushing WMV files instead, and
of course I will be more than happy to capture a screen shot of my
Windows XP diag console showing my system RAM being sucked dry by
your player with a VERY LOUD FLAME on my web pages, advising people
NOT to buy or use your products.
    Get real.

It shows Peter's doing its jobs properly.
Anyway there is no more communication from Sony since awihle. If you can have any news.
    Anyway good job Zero!

  • How to find out WHY Flash Player 11.2.202.236 plugins crash in Firefox ESR 10.0.6 on 64-bit Linux

Flash crashes dozens of times a day and I am trying to figure out WHY.
I have the recommended latest player & browser for my operating system.
The only diagnostic information I have is that the crashes seem to occur when a few tabs are open with videos loading in them and when any one video is closed, flash then locks up the browser for about 30 seconds, and then ALL the videos that were loading in separate tabs are dumped & say that the plugin crashed.
Details about the system from http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player.html
    1. Flash player version: 11.2.202.236
    2. Operating System: Linux 2.6.32-279.2.1.el6.x86_64 (64-bit)
    3. Browser: Firefox Firefox ESR 10.0.6
This is the correct set of components.
Debugging, I've modified the about:config dom.ipc.plugins.timeoutSecs to any value of 10 seconds to 45 seconds (the default), but it doesn't seem to make a difference in the number of crashes.
Any idea how to get more diagnostic information?

Unfortunately, there's nothing in "/var/crash" after the numerous flash crashes so I'm not sure where to look next.
    The 'dmesg' command reports:
    npviewer.bin[16884]: segfault at 340 ip 00007f26bda22ab0 sp 00007fffa8abbe78 error 6 in libflashplayer.so[7f26bd68d000+1179000]
Bringing up the CentOS 6 "Applications->System Tools->System Monitor", I see the numerous Flash crashes appear to have some relationship with "npviewer.bin", which uses the "/usr/lib64/flash-plugin/libflashplayer.so" shared object module and which has numerous "open files", one of which is "/home/<username>/.xsession-errors".
Looking at "/home/<username>/.xsession-errors", we find these lines, which may be useful.

  • Flash Player Install Error: Memory can not be "written"

Actual error (with fake addresses because I get a different address each time it fails this way) is
    CAPTION: iexplore.exe - Application error

So far I have used the uninstall_flash_player.exe and tried the reset_fp10.cmd with the MS subinacl.exe tool. I have used a registry
scrubber (RegScrubXP) and re-tried all of the above. I still can not get the flash player to load and I still get the error each time I try. I have run IE8 manage add-ons and the flash player is not listed. I am at my wit's end, I have searched everywhere and tried everything. This is a brand new computer with very little other than MS products loaded. Nothing is loaded that is not loaded on my other 3 computers that run flash player 10 just fine. I have run complete diagnostics on mt Thinkpad t500 and all checks out.

I had the same problem as previous described.  Some how I lost Flash Player.  The first indication I got was when I went to Utube site and tried to view aa clip.  It came back with an error saying I had java turned off or Flash Player was not installed.  It gave me link to install flash player and tried to install it and failed with memory written error.  The error message also said it was coming from Abode DLM. I was also at the point that a banner appeared that said an Adove system was trying to install and add on DLM.   This also caused IE to hang and it took quite sometime to close the IE to get out this hang condition with a bunch of error reports being sent to MIcrosoft.  After going to Sun System and testing my Java which it said was ok, I tried to install flash player.  Same thing happen.again.  I download Flash Player uninstall and ran it.  Tried install again.  Same results.  I found Adobe tech note how to uninstalled DLM.  I found none of the modules that it indicated should be deleted.  I tried installing Acrobat Reader which I already have on the system same error.  I found this forum and tried manual loading of Flash Player and that worked.  Now things are working ok except that if I try to download Flash player It still fails but the error has changed a little.  I hear the beep to approve the install of DLM addon  but IE fails cleanly and when I close the window said had the following error. I think the problem is DLM add on related.
    I am running IE V 8.0.6.001.18702

I'm really tired of this.   If I go back to a prior version of Flash everything works fine.   Your new version locks up my pc, I get "Adobe Flash Player has crashed, reload the page"
Why is this version such a horrible mess?  I have to open up Task Manager and consistently  End the Plug in process.
Then the only way to watch videos is to uninstall the latest version and go back to Flash 10 where everything works fine.
You KNOW this is a problem with a lot of people.  Please fix it.  I keep clicking on the link for Send Crash report.

I'm sorry you're going through this.  I suspect you might be running into a conflict with our Protected Mode which was introduced in Flash Player 11.4.  Please try the troubleshooting steps outlined in this FAQ:
How do I troubleshoot Flash Player's protected mode for Firefox?
In particular, I'd recommend temporarily disabling protected mode (for troubleshooting purposes only) to see if that addresses the issue.
In addition, could you go to "about:crashes" in Firefox's address bar and copy some of the most recent report id links into a reply?

  • Adobe Flash Player causing IE and Chrome to crash when on ESPN

I have a 64 bit Windows 7 Sony Vaio that I just purchased.  Everything seems to be working ok, except when I go to ESPN.  When I have Flash Player enabled, Internet Explorer and Chrome both stop working and crash unless I leave the page.  When I have uninstalled Flash player or disabled it, I do not have the problem (but I can't view Flash movies on any website).  Adobe Flash Player works fine on other websites on all browsers, its just this particular website on all browsers.  I think the problem is with Flash or involves a virus/malware.  I have MacAfee and nothing is coming up.  I read about a Host file issues in other threads but don't know enough about fixing that myself (if that is indeed the problem).  Does anyone have any suggestions?  If if it involves a virus, can someone suggest a program to fix the problem?

Another suggestion is to downgrade Flash Player to 10.3 and see if it still crash or not. I noted how to uninstall current version and install older version in the other thread: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/922257?tstart=30
Let us know if older version work fine or stil crash. There is different code path between 10.3 and 11 so there might be chance that older one won't crash. I hope you can enjoy ESPN soon.

  • Flash Player 9.x and 10.x crashes Mozilla Firefox 5.x and 6.x

I'm running Windows 7 64-bit with 8GB of RAM and plenty of hard drive space.
I've been unable to visit any Web site with Mozila Firefox 5.x and now 6.x that has Flash content. Previously I had Flash Player 9.x and it was updated on August 13, 2011 to version 10.3.183.5.
I've manually disabled ALL plugins and determined that if I enable only the Shockwave Flash 10.3.183.5 plugin and visit a site that uses Flash content, such as http://www.native-instruments.com, Firefox will instantly crash and present me with the Mozilla Crash Reporter.
I do not have this issue with Internet Explorer 9.x or Google Chrome 13.x.
Other than the long, involved procedure involving the Backdoor.Ulrbot.C virus that Mozilla Support describes, are there any other suggetions you might have.
    Thanks very much.

    Well, according to http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Safe%20Mode,
You can elect to make the following changes:
Disable all add-ons: If you select this box and then click Make Changes and Restart then Firefox will start back up in its normal mode, except all your  extensions, themes, and plugins will be disabled (not uninstalled).
So how can Flash Player plugin run in Firefox Safe Mode if it's a plugin and it's disabled?
I've already determined that Flash Player is the problem by having it as the only add-on (plugin) that's enabled. All other extensions and plugins except for Firefox are disabled. My theme is the default one.
The site I visit doesn't matter, if it has Flash content on the page I'm visiting Firefox instantly crashes.

  • Flash player plug-in causing safari to crash

    Hello,
I have been having a lot of problems lately with the flash player plug-in causing safari to lockup and at times crash. I have gone to the adobe website and reinstalled the flash player, but it still is happening. Is any one else having this problem? It happens on a wide variety of sites, and not just one. Any ideas why this is happening. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.
    Derek Osterloh

Thanks for the files, that was really helpful.  Google Image Search doesn't use Flash, but we're investigating a couple issues specific to this Intel 4000 chipset that have been reported on both Mac (Yosemite specifically) and Windows over the last couple weeks.
It's unlikely that Flash is causing this, just because we're interacting with the GPU at a pretty high level of abstraction.  My suspicion is that this is a graphics driver bug.
My guess is that if you disable Hardware Acceleration in Flash and/or Safari, that this will go away.  It's not an optimal solution, but it should give you a temporary workaround and confirm that we're looking in the right place.
The video troubleshooting guide includes instructions on disabling hardware acceleration in Flash:
    https://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/video-playback-issues.html
I don't see an easy option in Safari 8 for disabling hardware acceleration, so let's start with that.
