Flash Player gone missing... again

Up until yesterday, if I doubleclicked on a downloaded .flv file, it loaded and ran in a separate standalone window ("console"?) on the desktop. Today I got a message asking me what program I wanted to use to open the file. It only offered Firefox, and I mistakenly clicked OK. Fail! - does not open file, only tries to make copies of itself. Now I am trying to reset the file association back to Flash Player, and I can't find it to point to. What is the name of the Player file, and where is it located, please?
Win 7 64-bit;
Firefox 3.6 with FlashPlayer plugin installed and enabled.
YouTube runs normally in both FF and IE8
Also: once or twice a week I get an update box from Adobe to install/update Flash Player (I'm guessing this is the browser plugin, I'm not sure) - I click Yes, it runs, tells me it installed correctly, and then I repeat a few days later, and a few days after that...?

Thanks for the response.
The Firefox plugin is ver. 10.1.102.64 - I had deleted it and reinstalled from the Adobe download page as a first step. As I said, online videos run fine in the browser viewers.
I downloaded Flash Projector and pointed the .flv file association to it. When I doubleclick the file(s) now, the Projector opens in its own window, but nothing runs. "Open File" does not give me a <Browse...> option, only a command line where I have to type in the entire path name :-(
BTAIM, this is not the player that I used to run on the desktop. I am completely at a loss as to what happened to it.
I suspect that the player was the browser plugin that was running without all the browser chrome. I would like to associate that plugin, but I can't find where it is located - the File Location for both FP plugins is cloaked in the Install/Remove Programs list for some reason, and without a file name I can't track it down with Search. It doesn't seem to be in a Firefox/Plugin folder - would it be a Hidden File? (Just thought of that)

If you are using IE you can do the following
1. Open IE
2. Click on Tools
3. Select Internet Options
4. Then click on <delete> under browsing history, and put a check in all the boxes
After it completes re-open IE and try it again.

• Flash Player gone crazy.

I have windows vista and internet explorer 8. The flash player repeatedly crashed and I attempted to download it again. The instructions said to uninstall previous versions which I did. Now I have re-downloaded all evening to now avail. I have attempted to do it manually and no luck. I am disablled and my computer is my link and I have no idea what to do next. Please advise

Hi, Perhaps a step or two was overlooked, which is easy to do. Try this:
When you were Installing did you receive any error messages? If not then you would need to Uninstall and Install again.
Download and SAVE to your Desktop the Uninstaller:
http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/141/tn_14157.html
Download and SAVE to your Desktop the Installer for IE- use the EXE Installer
http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/fp_distribution3.html
Close all browser windows, you only want to be looking at your Desktop.
Disable any messenger services, as yahoo, msn, etc in the system tray(area near the clock)
Disable your Anti-Virus/Spyware Program until Flash Player is Installed.
Be sure to use the Administrator Account.
Run the Uninstaller and when finished, Reboot(restart) your computer.
Check to make sure your Anti-Virus/Spware is still Disabled before running the Installer
Run the Installer for IE, and when finished, Reboot.
Then go to this test site and test each browser:
http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
You may want to print these instructions to make it easier to follow. If you have any questions, let me know.

• Flash Player gone with Firefox, Still works with IE.

Flash Player suddenly stopped working with Firefox.
I uninstalled and reloaded. Works with IE, but still not with
Firefox. That's my primary browser. Any ideas?
Thank you, -Bob

davexnet,
Thanks very much for the suggestion. Tried, no luck. I also
tried to download an update for an anti-virus program and it
returned the same error as the Flash Player download. So, must be a
Firefox problem, right? Error message was........"exe could not be
opened because an unknown error occurred." Thanks again, Bob

Hi,
Please check that your swfobject.js file is located where your .swf file and.html file are published. Your .swf file, .html file and swfobject.js should be placed on the same folder.
In my Flash CS4 the code generated in the HTML file is different and is having 318 lines of code. But the code which you pasted below looks different. If you are not able to see the flash content only in HTML file then it might be active content blocking. Please refer the link which provides fix for active content blocking manually.

• Wheres my Adobe Flash Player gone? HELP

Hi
about 2 weeks ago my flash player disappeared off my computer and now when i try to download a new version it refuses. Help me please (mother can't go another week without catching up with downton)
What to do?
Thanks in advance

I would not trust any non-Adobe site with the several malware applications disquised as Flash installers making the rounds. The last PowerPC version of Flash Player can be downloaded directly from Adobe:
Flash Player 10.1
Installers for all major platforms are included in the Zip archive.
Regards.

• Flash Player 9 & "Missing Content-Type"

Hello to everybody.
A Flash Movie located in "domain_A" reads a
data file (*.xml) from a
WebServer connected to Internet with a DynDNS dynamic DNS
service.
With FlashPlayer 8 it will work very good (I've used this for
about 2 years). Now, with FPlayer 9 it's impossible to read
the
data file. The error is :"Ignoring policy file at
(URL) due to missing
Content-Type".
May You tell me where I can insert Content-type ?
I have these files in the root:
crossdomain.xml (the policy file), index.xml (the data file)
and
xml.spi and NOT html file.
Thanks for all.

well I managed to generate some good news. I attempted
installing the version 9 again and it didn't work so I went
throught the install list and located the subdirectory it was
attempting to ubsuccessfully install into and deleted the entire
subdirectory and reinstalled again. this time it correctly
installed version 9 and when I rebooted and ran the version checker
it finally responded with the correct version 9 within the correct
oS win 98. I think what had happened is I accidently clicked the
uopgrade icon and it overwrote version 9 with version 10 and
wouldn't allow me to rewrite the version 9 back into its original
location. anyways it is now working and I'll know better that to
authorize a version upgrade on the 98 system.

• At my wits end with Flash Player

I've been fighting a prolem with installing flash player 8, 9, or 10.
I have narrowed it down to a registry perms problem on the main local admin account and all other sub admin accounts.
For whatever reason Win XP SP 3 and Flash Player 8, 9, 10 are the only pieces having this problem.
Microsoft has not ben able to provide any answers, so far I've not found anything of a solution.
Windows XP Pro
Internet Explorer 8.x and Mozilla Firefox 3.0.1.x
PC is less then a year old everything wored until I had to update to Flashplayer 10 from 9.
I did some crawling through the registry and found most Shockwave Player and Flash player entries missing but no way of re-writing them to the registry via installer. I ran many manual registry fixes suggested on Adobe support to date none have been successful.

Thanks for your help!

I'm even more concerned now after hearing back regarding my initial post. Apparently any cancellations or changes are showing as done by me using the self help platform on my BT account. This isn't the case. The actions carried out on certain dates listed on the email I received were all carried out by BT over the phone and not myself. I didn't even know it was possible to cancel a direct debit using the BT website. I thought it had to be cancelled at the bank and then a phone call to BT. I was logged onto my BT account while the phone calls were taking place but any action was carried out by BT and not myself.
BT are insisting I have no DD set up. Yet it clearly shows on my bank account that there is an active DD for BT. To confirm that, I've spoken to my bank today who have verified there is most definitely a DD set up to pay BT on the bank account. They've double checked the account number with me and it's definitely for my BT account. The bank are sending me a letter confirming it's an active DD for me to include all other details for the Ombudsman because I really feel this needs fetching to their attention.
To be fair to the person who has replied I have been told I can pay a small amount and set the DD up rather than pay in full or face restrictions. But despite BT's insistence that I have no DD set up my bank clearly states I have. I'm now going to have to cancel the DD that BT are sure isn't active and set it up again.
Incidentally the monthly payments I'm to make are £45 - less than the £60 and a lot less than the £104 previously mentioned! So on one hand I will have a satisfactory conclusion but on the other I have to still cancel a "none existent" existing DD, set a new one up and am out of pocket on bank charges caused by BT trying to take payment on the wrong date. I then have to trust they'll not do the same thing again.......
It's all like a stupid joke that's just not funny.

• Installation of Flash Player on MAC OS 10.7.5

Trying to install Flash Player, I have worked through the troubleshooting guidelines and it is still not showing up as installed even though it says installation completed and the installation seemed to run smootly. I have then tried to uninstall Flash Player, but once again it says that it is not installed. I have gone through this process about 10 times, rebooting after each and still no luck. In the flash player Help, it says that either the Flash Player version and OS will be displayed or an error message in the grey box, however my box is blank, not showing either? My co-worker on the same MAC has Flash Player installed with no problems.

Hi Christa,
Glad to hear you were able to solve this! It sounds like it was a two part solution, at least for Safari. If that checkbox was unchecked, then Flash definitely would not work. However, it also sounds like you had gotten into a state where Flash wasn't fully installed. Since the plugin is the same file between Firefox and Safari, installing for one will indeed allow the other browser to use it too.
Thanks,
Chris

• Flash Player has to be installed with each computer start up.

Flash Player NPAPI Plug in Version 15.0.0.223
PPAPI Plug in Version 16.0.0.228
Browser Opera
Windows Vista
For a few months now, I have had to install Flash Player every time I start my laptop. I have posed the question 'why?' on various web sites, all to no avail. For some reason I have never come across this site. Yesterday, I followed the instructions you give for installing a bit of software (Subinacl), into C: Program Files/Windows Resource Kits/Tools.
After installing what was suggested, Flash Player showed up in the Opera 'DeveloperTools> Plug ins', as Enabled.
This morning, on start up, Flash Player has vanished again. It is showing in 'Control Panel', but has vanished from Opera. Neither does it work in Firefox (it is missing from the Firefox plug in section.).
I have uninstalled Flash Player numerous times via the correct site and have even used Revo Uninstaller this last time, but it will still not stay installed.
Suggestions please

Try it from a fresh start:
Download the following files by right clicking and selecting "Save target as".
Flash Player Uninstaller
Shockwave Player Uninstaller
Flash Player for ActiveX (Internet Explorer)
Save ALL files to your Downloads folder - DO NOT RUN anything yet.
Reboot your system.
BEFORE opening anything else, go to your Downloads folder and run the UNINSTALLERS to remove the Flash Player and Shockwave plugins.
Go to: C/Windows/System32.
If there's a Macromed folder there, delete it.
Go to: C/Windows/SysWOW64.
If there's a Macromed folder there, delete it.
Open your Registry Editor (Start>Run or press the Windows key+R and type "regedit", then click OK)
Under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE/SOFTWARE delete the Macromedia folder.(If it's there)
Under HKEY_CURRENT_USER/Software delete the Macromedia folder. (If it's there)
Close the Registry Editor.
Next, run the ActiveX Installer.
Then go to: http://get.adobe.com/shockwave/otherversions/ and download &install the Shockwave FULL installer for Windows (Internet Explorer)
Once it's installed, see:Enabling Flash Player in Internet Explorer and: ActiveX Filtering in Internet Explorer to make 100% sure that Flash Player is enabled and NOT being blocked by ActiveX controls.

• Flash player and mail adres?

iphone hard gime for every one. Ilike to ask to apple. We are paying to large money to buy iphone but even we can`t get to open ever "HOTMAIL" and we can`t download "flash player" that is not referans for apple. This resen allready 3 of my friend not gonna buy iphone this maen you are not respect to custimer.I`m not happy aboute iphone. I like to say ho is wanna buy to iphone not got future on this phone. Thanks

Of course Apple hasn't had a problem selling the iPhone - it is a well designed phone. But for me I find it VERY annoying that something as ubiquitous as Flash player is missing from the web browser. As if it isn't needed or something. I guess this is true if you don't occasionally surf non-mobile web sites but almost everything else somewhere wants to use Flash. I think Apple should converse with Adobe to get a player for the iPhone/iPod 'cause that is the only way someone as large as Adobe will ever devote time to such a project.

• Trying to update Adobe Flash Player: 'update' seems to be OUT of date

I've been trying to download updated version of Adobe Flash Player over & over again for over two hours. The only available version reads 'updated April 19, 2013' and does not work - I am still seeing "blocked plug-in" everywhere there should be a video playing. How do I find and download the most up to date version? (If this IS the most up to date version, what is the problem?)
What does this thing want??!!!?!

If you're sure you've installed the latest version of Flash, take each of the following steps that you haven't already tried. After each step, relaunch Safari and test. For a "missing plug-in" error, start with Step 4.
1. If you're getting a "blocked plug-in" error, then from the menu bar select
 ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Check Now. Quit and relaunch your browser.
2. Triple-click the line below to select it:
/Library/Internet Plug-Ins
Right-click or control-click the highlighted text and select
Services ▹ Open
from the contextual menu. A folder should open. Delete the following item, or anything with a similar name, if present:
Flash Player (failing).plugin
You may be prompted for your login password.
3. Re-download and reinstall Flash. Download it from this page:
Adobe - Install Adobe Flash Player
Never download a Flash update from anywhere else.
4. If you get a "missing plug-in" error, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Security
from the Safari menu bar and check the box marked Enable plug-ins.
5. Select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
from the Safari menu bar. If any extensions are installed, disable them.
6. In the Safari preference window, select
Privacy ▹ Remove All Website Data
Close the window. Then select
 ▹ System Preferences… ▹ Flash Player ▹ Advanced
and click Delete All. Close the preference pane.
