Flash Player: IE 6.0 vs. Mozilla Firefox

When I use IE 6.0, the Flash Player just won’t work. I
currently use IE 6.0.2800.1106CO SP1. Service Pack 1 is recommend
for Windows 2000 which I am using. I tried anything from the Adobe
FAQs:
-system requirements: ok
-removed Flash Player using the uninstall file from Adobe
(all browser windows closed)
-repaired IE
-removed and reinstalled IE
-installed latest version of Flash Player
-IE: the security level is set at medium: “Download
signed ActiveX Controls” and “Run ActiveX controls and
plug-ins” are enabled
-permissions: ok
-edited the registry removing the folder “Safe
Verions”
-manually removed the kill bit entry from the registry
The Flash Player did not work one single time when I tried it
on the test page of Adobe. Just the quotation mark appeared. When I
browse a site which requires Flash Player, i can just see the
broken icon symbol. However, IE does not request to download Flash
Player (The IE setting: “Install on demand” is
enabled).
All the control panel displays is: “Adobe Flash Player
9 ActiveX”. But no file size is shown.
In Mozilla Firefox, the Flash Player works fine.
Any ideas how to get Flash Player work with IE? I appreaciate
any help.

I think there is information on this very topic in the Flash
Player
newsrgoup/forum here.

  • Flash Player doesn't work on Mozilla Firefox and IE, on some websites.

I followed the thread posted by brawlmanjr on this same topic but nothing worked for me.
Basically, some videos work prolperly on some websites, but on others, there is a black space where the video is embedded, and there is no link to the video.
    System:  Windows XP
    Browser:  Mozilla 3.6.8
Flash Player the most recent, just updated.
What do you think I can do?

I have the same problem than you, flash player works fine with some  site like facebook, you tube etc and for some other sites like CFL.CA  the videos shows only a black or white screen. It's doing the same with  IE or FF. If I click on the right button, I get the menu of flash player, but cannot do anything.
I tried the option of flash....no change
I tried uninstalling flash and reinstalling...no change
I tried uninstalling Java and reinstalling...no change
I checked my antivirus, but the doesn't seem to be any option blocking the videos
I am out of ideas, please help me and Heraldo to solve this problem!

What have you tried so far in terms of troubleshooting this issue?  Are you plugging the iPod into a high powered USB 2.0 port on the back of your PC? Have you tried a different USB cable?
What happens if you try to reset the device with it still connected to the PC?
    How to reset iPod
Has this iPod ever worked on this PC or is this the first time you have time you have tried connecting it?
Have you carefully worked through each and every single suggestion in this Apple support document?

  • I've down loaded adobe flash player but when I try to veiw video on firefox I'm still told that I need adobe flash player. How do I get firefox to see the flash player download?

I was trying to view a video I uploaded to facebook using firefox. The system told me to down load adobe flash player. I did but still get the message that I need to down load flash player. How do I get firefox to see the down loaded adobe flash player?

by installing from within Firefox, Internet Explorer has its own version (Active-X).
Make sure you are starting in the correct place for Flash
    * http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/
If you want to read PDF files in you browser, you might also want
    * http://get.adobe.com/reader/
    After the download,
#bring up the download manager ("Ctrl+J") and start your installs. As soon as the install comes up,
#close Firefox with '''File > Exit''' or "Firefox" button > Exit. Give Firefox some time to close.
#If install does not proceed, '''terminate "firefox.exe"''' and '''"plugin-container.exe"''' from the "Processes" tab in the Windows Task Manager.
#* Windows 7 shortcut to the WTM is "Ctrl+Shift+Esc"
#* or on any Windows system from "Ctrl+Shift+Esc" then choose Windows Task Manager.
#*Make sure that "firefox.exe" is no longer running -- if it is still running then terminate it by selecting the use "End Process" button or from context menu, and do the same for "plugin-container.exe" if it is found there.
    #proceed with the install.
'''Warning''': this is the Adobe site and they have chosen to to provide crapware along with their own product. Only install the product you were planning to install. Do not install additional products: including -- "Free! McAfee Security Scan Plus" or "Google Chrome". Installing Google Chrome on your own and installing it because it is offered on the Adobe site are two different things.
Find updates for your installed plugins at http://www.mozilla.com/plugincheck/ mozilla.com/plugincheck
-- best to use Adobe's site to really see if their plug-ins are up to date.
Please fix your caps lock or read what you type, do you think anybody could read my answer if I typed in all caps.
If the above fails to correct the problem, I would try uninstalling Adobe Flash from your system entirely first, from the control panel then "Programs and Features".

  • Installing Adobe Flash Player 10.0.42 Plugin for Firefox 3.5.7

I currently have Firefox 3.5.7 installed and am trying to access a site that requires the current version of Adobe Flash Player (10.0.42). When I download and install it, the website still doesn't recognize flash player being installed.
I go to Adobe.com, make sure I am downloading the one for WinXP/Firefox and install it, then it says that it is successfully installed. However, when I try to access the site, and it says that the current version of flash player is not installed, with a link to the adobe site to download the latest version (which I already did).
I have tried uninstalling the flash player, from both Windows and Adobe's uninstaller, and reinstalling with no success. I have even tried uninstalling/reinstalling Firefox, still nothing. For fun, I tried updating IE, and it works fine, but I REALLY don't like IE.
Another note: when I uninstall Flash Player, it doesn't remove it from my machine (add/remove program list), even when Windows asks, "Adobe ... is already uninstalled, would you like to remove it from the list?" Additionally, when I go to Adobe's Flash Player version tester site, it reports that IE is running version 10.0.42, but when I access it with FF, it shows a link to download the latest Adobe FP.

  • The new flash player update crashes internet explorer and firefox

The new flash player update crashes internet explorer and firefox, please send a new release to fix the problem ASAP!

ok   here's more mystery.  i just uninstalled and reinstalled flash player using the adobe uninstaller and rebooting after each step.  aqlso installed latest java.  i started looking at videos and here are the ones that worked: you tube
                                                                                           imdb
                                                                                           hulu
                                                                                           ebaumsworld
here are the ones that didn't work:    yahoo
                                                                                           msn
                                                                                           reuters
here are the ones that partially worked: the blaze (works on videos that originate from you tube, but not from news stories)
bing (work on videos from their video section - entertainment type, but not from news videos)
the common thing here seems to be that news type videos crash and entertainment type don't.  also videos seem more likely to crash on internet portals like yahoo

  • Adobe Flash Player/Shockwave is not running on FireFox... does not run in Youtube, or other video sites.

Hmmm... this morning I was watching youtube videos.. and I noticed a little lag. Really minor... but thought that shouldn't be happening.? So decided to see if I could fix it. Not sure what I did or if I did anything to cause this? I really don't think so. Maybe firefox.exe -p?? Was working fine up until today?
I've read a bunch of the forums and tried a bunch of stuff but still no go. When I disable protected mode it works fine, but I want protected mode to be enabled so that I'm... well... 'protected!'
I've uninstalled FireFox and Flash Player and reinstalled numerous times but still same thing.
I'm running Windows 8.1, with most recent Flash and FireFox. My computer is an i7 4700HQ 2.4 Ghz, 12 GB Ram etc... its a 6 month laptop.
Anyone know what the issue is? I've never experienced anything like it? I've ran Malaware bytes.. didn't find anything. Ran AVG and found one threat... I think it was the Crack threat (cockos??) does that ring a bell...? came from a torrent. That issue has been healed now tho.. not sure if they are related??
Also ran a disc cleanup and it took about 5 minutes... doesn't usually take that long but its all clean now. Deleted a bunch of debug dump files... again, not sure if that's related??
Here are a few of the crash error logs I've gotten recently:

Some background information about the Adobe Flash Protected Mode for '''''christ1'''.
    http://blogs.adobe.com/security/2012/06/inside-flash-player-protected-mode-for-firefox.html
Intel(R) HD Graphics 4600 that you have is a relatively low end graphics card and low end for on-board graphics chips, whichever you have. ''Unless that is a laptop that switches drivers for "gaming" which puts a lot more load on the hardware and runs the battery out a lot faster.'' Technically the HD 4600 ''should'' be enough for web browsing, but Flash is a lot more than simple web browsing.
IMO, if disabling the Flash Protected Mode solves that issue - do that. Or upgrade your hardware, especially if you have a separate Graphics Card ''[vs an on-board chip]'' or can install a better card in a desktop computer.
As far as YouTube videos goes, have you tried using the HTML5 setting for YouTube?
    https://www.youtube.com/html5
Make that setting and Google will deliver HTML5 video when it is available for each "clip". From what I have seen ''[I'm not a big user of YouTube, though]'', like maybe 75% of the clips I see are available in HTML5 - ''ymmv''.
BTW, Mozilla is working on eliminating the need for even having to use Flash. They're working a a project which is code-named Shumway to play SWF-format files.
    http://mozilla.github.io/shumway/
You can download it from that page, but it is at the early stages of development and needs a lot more work before it is truly usable.

  • Flash Player 11.4.402.265 and Firefox 15/15.0.1 Not Compatible?

I have mentioned this in two recent posts, but wanted to start a new thread to call attention to what I believe is an important issue.
Starting with the update of Firefox 15, and continuing into version 15.0.1, my Firefox browser has logged a series of "silent" crashes.  By silent I mean that there was no visible sign that a crash had taken place.  I found out about them by typing about:crashes into Firefox's address bar.  (I actually do this about once per week just to make sure that there are no problems that should be addressed.)
All of the crashes--and there were dozens--were "empty" in that no source could be identified.  Specifically, the following appeared at the top of each crash report:
Firefox Crash Reports [@ EMPTY: no crashing thread identified; corrupt dump ]
In addition, the crashes were intermittent.   I checked this out by constantly checking for new crashes after calling up various web sites.  For instance, I would would go to Google News, check for a crash report, go to a feature story, check for a crash report, watch a YouTube video, check for a crash report, close Firefox, open it, check for a crash report, etc.  What I found was that I often would visit 20 or more sites before a crash report was filed; however,  an average of  ten crashes appeared daily--again, all with NO indication of what had caused the crash.
At first, I could see no pattern, so I troubleshooted by enabling/disabling hardware acceleration for both Firefox and Flash Player, enabling/disabling cookies, enabling/disabling JavaScript, etc. I spent several hours doing this.
I also scoured the various Firefox "help" forums, but it seemed that the same answers appeared on all of the forums, and they pretty much echoed the troubleshooting steps I had taken. (It seems that the major issue now is the fact that hardware acceleration causes Firefox 15.0.1 to crash for many users.)
Finally, I noticed that I had been on a site containing an embedded flash video, just prior to a crash.  (Interestingly, I never received a crash report after watching a YouTube video on YouTube.)   I then tried disabling Protected Mode in Flash Player, which worked several months ago after the new "sandboxing" provision was introduced, and was found to be incompatible with the then-version of Firefox. So far, this has stopped all crashes.  After three days of normal usage and surfing, there have been no reports, whereas, prior to doing this, I was averaging at least one per hour.
This leads me to believe that the designers of the  latest version of Firefox have either omitted whatever code string was used to fix the problem that occurred last June, or some new, incompatible code has been included.    Either way, I think that this should be looked into by BOTH Adobe and Mozilla as soon as possible--but especially by Mozilla, since Flash Player 11.4.402.265 worked just fine with Firefox 14.0.1.
It should be noted, by the way, that I did a recent check of Firefox's "top crashers" and the empty crash report is by far the most common--over 877,000 at the time I checked.  If I understood the graph, there has been an escallation since the introduction of version 15.0.  How many of them are silent, and therefore, unnoticed by the users, is anyone's guess, but I suspect that I'm not the only user on the planet this is happening to.
In case it's needed, I'm using:
Windows 7, Home Premium Service Pack 1 (Windows Classic user interface)
    Firefox 15.0.1
    Flash Player 11.4.402.265
Hardware Acceleration disabled for both Firefox and Flash Player
Since all of my crash reports, prior to disabling Protected Mode, were useless, I have deleted them.

Message was edited by: Ortho_Fan  ADDED -- 9/15/12 --   I periodically check Windows 7's "Performance Monitor" and noticed today that one of the "silent crashes" was picked up by Windows.  The following details were posted:

This appeared before I disabled Flash Player's Protected Mode, but coincides with one of the empty crashes reported in Firefox.  I know nothing about Windows crashes, where to find the reports, etc.

    Hi schützenkönig:
Many thanks for posting!  As you can see, I made my initial post over a week ago, and since there were no responses, I thought perhaps I was the only one this was happening to!
In any event, disabling Protected Mode is the only way I've found to prevent the crashes from happening.
I posted about this on the mozillazine forum -- http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?f=38&t=2551745&sid=7e877237158ffdc560789fb668c 858c0 -- but didn't get very far.  Apparently, Firefox is blaming Adobe and has no plans to do anything about it.  I was given some reassurance, however, by the comment that adblock plus offers protection from harmful flash content.
By the way, I made a follow on post when I downloaded the latest version of Flash Player -- 11.4.402.278  -- http://forums.adobe.com/message/4708561#4708561
Unfortunately, it did nothing to fix the problem.

    FLASHUTIL10K_ActiveX.dll
    FlashUtil10_ActiveX
    FLASHUTIL10k_Plugin
    NPSWF32.DLL
    PLEASE HELP  THANKS IN ADVANCE

Hi, Just got my Internet connection back! Without knowing what add ons/plugins/extensions you have in FF, it is difficult
for me to say what else may be conflicting.
Other than that, your choices are either Uninstall 3.6.10 and Install a version that wasn't giving you a problem. You could Install the FF beta.
Mozilla has a list of many extensions that conflict with FF if you want that link to look over. One of the other links has to do with other issues that may be helpful.
Let me know and I'll post those to you.
    Thanks,

  • Adobe flash player either hangs or crashes in Firefox

Adobe flash player either hangs up the web browser Firefox or crashes within Firefox.  This has been occurring for about a year even though Firefox and the adobe flash player have been updated and upgraded many times over the last year.  Multiple crash reports have been sent to either Adobe or Firefox (I am not sure which one actually gets the crash report) but it appears someone knows about this issue since I seem to be getting more pop up boxes from Firefox now when the Windows 7 system seems to hang (no response from mouse when I try to close the Firefox browser window).  The pop up box states that Adobe flash player is not responding or in a loop so when I respond to the pop up window to cancel the task all the flash player displays in all of the open Firefox browser sessions crash.  However, if I use google chrome and the same ESPN videos that use Adobe flash player so far I have not seen the same issue of hangs or crashes.  So, is this a known issue with Adobe flash player and/or Firefox or has it just never been fixed correctly?

I use Firefox, which is a leading browser, I think we'd say, and I think I had far fewer plug-ins until I updated to the new Adobe Flash Player today.  As for your challenge to come up with a plugin, I'm a poor sucker who's developed nothing more in my lifetime that Word and Excel docs. I'm totally at the mercy of what all software developers throw at the public.  As for crap on my computer, I've tried to get rid of everything I can, crap or not, just in case it could affect Adobe Crash. Do you see anything here that looks suspicious?

As soon as I click on the link a setup file of 989 Mb is getting downloaded and when I click install it is saying intialization failed. I tried to download again and the same message is repeated.
kindly tell a way to update flash plugin for my mozilla firefox browser

I am facing a similar issue with the flash content on my website (appnina.com). Any flash content is not displayed on my website.
The problem is because of using flash plugin in Mozilla Firefox (21.0 - updated). The flash plugin does not get activated by default. That is whenever opening the site, the flash content is not displayed. It asks to click the activate button. This activation should be one time, however it always asks to do so whenever opening the site.
I just checked and found that this flash problem is not specific to my website but in general (youtube as well).
Let me put the screen shot of the same.
Any permanent solution to this. Let me check if I can delete the old plguin and download it again to solve this issue.
The problem seems to be because of compatibility problem of firefox with flash.
PS: Let me know if I need to start a new discussion thread on this ?

  • Problem with Flash player in Ubuntu 11.04 for Firefox

I am running Ubuntu 11.04 on my laptop and use firefox as my main browser.
I have a very strange experience when browsing video sites like Youtube.com or Bumperhit.com
Some videos are playing all right.
But some others, show an error message "Please install Flash Player" etc etc.
I am unable to understand, why this is happening only for some videos?
Also when I try to install the flash Player from Adobe's site, there is no option to save the program.
I would like to save the program, so that I have to download the installable multiple times.
Thank you in advance for your valuable guidance.
    Regards
    Sujata

Adobe offers the Flash installer as a tar.gz archive and as an rpm archive.<br />
Both files can be opened with a proper archive manager and you can copy to libflashplayer.so to a plugins folder in the Firefox Profile Folder (you need to create that folder) or to another folder that Firefox scans for plugins if you do not want to install the plugin via the software installer.
