Flash Player in Solaris

I have an OpenSolaris guest in a virtualbox on a windows 2008
host. Everything is working fine, including the sound from the mp3
player. I installed the Opera browser, and installed successfully
the flash player plugin. The player works very well, but I cannot
get any sound coming from there. ANY IDEAS?
Thanks
Marc

  • Flash Player for Solaris - And J2SE 6.0 for Solaris

    Hello,
The current version of flash player for Solaris is 7.0.67.0. For Windows it is 9.0.45.0. What gives? Is Adobe just giving up on Solaris? Now, in Firefox and Mozilla for Solaris, imbedded videos on web pages such as www.nytimes.com will not display, apparently due to the ancient version of Flash for Solaris.
Also, does anyone know when and the new java runtime j2se 6.0 will be released as a patch for Solaris 10? The patches are 118666 and 118667.
    Thank you.....

From Adobe Lans web site above:
Adobe Labs is currently featuring prerelease versions of the Flash Player 9 Update software. This update includes enhancements and bug fixes for Windows, Macintosh, and Linux versions of Flash Player 9. Please see the release notes for more information regarding this prerelease technology. The prerelease program for Flash Player 9 for Solaris is closed at this time, and Solaris versions of Flash Player 9 will be available shortly from Adobe.com.

  • Flash player for Solaris?

The Flash player version is quite old. Are there any plans to fix a new version for Solaris? Any tries in that direction?
Right now I am running Windows in VirtualBox to get Flashplayer, but that is inconvenient. I would like to get Flash native for Solaris.

Adobe is no longer developing Flashplayer for Solaris. The final version Flash Player 11.2.202.223 is available from the Adobe site:

  • Flash Player 11 Solaris download .tar.tar

When I attempt to download the current Adobe Flash Player 11 for Solaris, either the SPARC or the x86 version, I get a file that ends in .tar.tar which is unreadable using tar or gunzip or any other form of compression software, including WinZip. What am I supposed to do with a .tar.tar ? Usually is't .tar.bz2 or .tar.gz or .tgz.

That's odd that it's changing the extension from .bz2 to .tar.  I just tried both files (which I downloaded from this page) and they came down as .bz2 which I was able to open without any problems.  Could you try renaming to see if that helps?
    Thanks,
    Chris

  • Flash Player 11 for Solaris Sparc/x86 has been released.

Since the OpenSolaris Desktop Discussion forum is no more I'll post this here.
The permissions and ownership need to be checked.
If that still doesn't help then exit Firefox, goto the profile directory and find pluginreg.dat.
Open the file and remove the lines for Flash Player.
If that doesn't work then create a temporary profile and use it and then go back to your original profile.
    Fun stuff.
Does anyone know of a new equivalent for this page:

Seems to have died on the vine.

Elzior, are you using Solaris for your operating system?  If so, I don't have any update for this at this time.  Could you take a minute and vote for the following bug?

  • Flash Player 10.0.32.18

Adobe Flash Player 10.0.32.18 is now available.
Download (for Windows, Mac OS X, Linux, Solaris): http://www.adobe.com/shockwave/download/alternates/
It is recommended to uninstall all previous versions (download uninstaller). All browser windows should be closed when the uninstaller runs.

Hi Alexey, should have made the link clear that its the Linux plugin.
The is no current pre-release for a native 64-bit Windows plugin. It may exisit as they did say in the orininal press release that they will be working in 64-bit for the next major release, but if there is one it certanliy not open to the public right now.

  • What is the recommended action in response to Adobe's 6-4-10 security advisory for Flash Player?

    Adobe security advisory: http://www.adobe.com/support/security/advisories/apsa10-01.html
"A critical vulnerability exists in Adobe Flash Player 10.0.45.2 and earlier versions for Windows, Macintosh, Linux and Solaris operating systems..."
Is the Flashblock 1.5.13 addon capable of preventing this vulnerability? I hesitate to install this because of the recent poor user reviews.
Any suggestions or advice are appreciated. Thank you.

    Hi Bill.
Flashblock will block Flash objects from running unless you explicitly allow them. I used to use Flashblock but I haven't in quite some time. So, yes, it will do the job. I only see one double-posted bad review for Flashblock. The average rating is still 5 stars.
Instead I use [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/722 NoScript], which blocks Flash, other plugins, and all page scripts unless explicitly allowed by you. It might be overkill to deal with this vulnerability.
You could disable the Flash plugin until you are sure you are on a safe site that needs it, such as YouTube, in Tools -> Add-ons -> Plugins.
You could also try the [http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashplayer10/ pre-release of Flash 10.1], which, according to Adobe, does not seem to be vulnerable. Make sure to follow instructions to uninstall any previous Flash version before installing 10.1. I have been using it without problems for awhile.
You may be fine as long as you avoid unfamiliar sites. Once a malicious site is reported, Firefox will block it with the built in attack site and phishing site protection.

Hi, I think Pat posted this thread as an Advisory about the Flash Player update. It would better for each of you to start your own thread to discuss your particular issues.
It is very difficult to try to help several users with all the various system configurations on one thread. It is so much easier to help when each user has their own.

  • Flash Player 10.1 Not Releasing Audio Device

I recently installed FlashPlayer 10.1 on a Sun SPARC Solaris 10 system.  The new version of the plugin does not appear to be releasing the audio device when a video is terminated by navigating away from a page.  However, if I completely exit the Firefox 3.6.6 browser that appears to have the device locked, then it is freed for use by another application.  I never experienced this problem with past versions, but it is now happening repeatedly after the upgrade.  Any suggestions as to what might be wrong and is there anything I can do to improve the situation?  Thanks.

Hi, Sometimes the update of the Safari browser disables the Shockwave Flash plugin. Look into the HD/Library/Internet Plug-ins/ directory and see if you have: Make sure it is Enabled.

  • URGENT - adobe flash player for iproducts ?

    Dear Adobe,
Hello, i urgently need 'Adobe Flash Player', for my ipod touch. So please, can someone make an flash player app, or what should i do ?
    Thank you ~ Hughy Dee

as stated previously, your ipod touch device does not support flash player.  there's nothing that can be done in that regard.  your alternative is to use a desktop (Linux/Solaris/Mac/Windows) browser or device that does support the player.

  • Tired of installing Flash Player 10 over and over and over again!!!!!!

Why do I have to keep installing Flash Player 10?? Every time I go to a site that uses Flash, it tells me I need the newest Flash Player. I click the link, install it, and everything works great...until...I close windows and come back later when it makes me repeat the whole thing again. Adobe won't give me the time of day when I try to talk to them. I've resintalled it about 50 times. I've uninstalled it per tech support instructions who told me to install version 9. I specifically asked if it will then tell me I need version 10. He assured me it would not. The next time I went to Youtube...guess what. I'm told I need to download Flash Player 10!
    Using Windows Vista and IE8

    >but I wouldn't tell you to install vs 9, unless you were using Windows98 and IE4 or 5:-)<
Why do you think the Tech told him to install version 9?
    >I have several threads open right now, take a look at some of them. I'd probably ask you the same questions.
    Just a suggestion.
    Thanks,
    eidnolb<
What thread links do you have open to help us out?
    >I would need you to post back your Flash file versions, SWO in add ons, Security and Firewall you use, etc.<
    1. What is SWO?
    2. I have Adobe DLM(powered by getPlus(R) 1.6.2.63 which then underneath says
"The getPlus(R) Download-, Upload- and Installation Manager is a sophisticated tool for an efficient distribution of digital goods."
This is interesting because from the Adobe Naviation menu under Support>Forums>click on the Flash icon that says "Adobe Flash Player"> and refer to USER POST: betsyg3 "We can't watch videos without adobe flash" where a link is suggested to show you which version you have. The suggested link says "Do you see the Flash animation at http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/ ?" there is a  list that shows what version you should have that looks like this:
    Platform Browser Player version
    Windows
Internet Explorer (and other browsers that support Internet Explorer ActiveX controls and plug-ins)
    10.0.45.2
    Windows
Firefox, Mozilla, Netscape, Opera (and other plugin-based browsers)
    10.0.45.2
    Macintosh - OS X
    Firefox, Opera, Safari
    10.0.45.2
    Linux
    Mozilla, Firefox, SeaMonkey
    10.0.45.2
    Solaris
    Mozilla
    10.0.45.2
and right above it there is a box that shows what version you have yet the version it says on the addon page is not the version that is on that link.
Refer to a post i made about this at this link if you desire more context:

  • Flash Player on AIX?

I'm leading the development of a new Flex-based product that has to run on a variety of platforms including AIX. Is there any information on a version for AIX? We've considered porting the Flex SDK ourselves, but that wouldn't give us access to the Flash Player.
I'd appreciate suggestions for getting around this issue.

The only unix version Flash Player I have seen is for Solaris (http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/fp_distribution3.html).
I suggest you send a PM to http://forums.adobe.com/people/chris.campbell - he may be able to give you a definitive answer.

  • Flash Player for Debian Linux v7.6?

I have Flash Player running on Firefox when I boot in Windows XP.  Flash Player will not even show the icon in step 5 of the help page when I boot in Debian Linux v7.6, even though the page shows that I have the correct version of Flash Player (v11.2.202.356) installed.  It is always activated when I start Firefox.  Some quirk of Linux also installs Shockwave Flash v10.1 r999.  Could this be screwing up Flash Player?  Do I have to switch to Ubuntu or Red Hat to use Flash Player?
