Flash Player is the new malware !

I had a perfectly functional old Flash 10.0.32 with any security holes covered by my Security.protection
When I discovered 36 vulnerabilities I decided to "upgrade",
with no assurance that the latest version did not have at least another 100 vulnerabilities waiting to be discovered and exploited.
I was horrified that you seem to clickjack me.
I thought I was clicking for Flash 10.1, but what you gave the Firefox download manager was a GetPlus download manager.
Why on earth would I want your UNPROVEN download manager, WHICH YOU STATE HAS AN UNPATCHED VULNERABILITY ! !
I only came here to improve security on a dodgy Adobe product for which I have only rare use.
IT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE THAT YOU DUMP ANOTHER HACKERS HIGHWAY ONTO MY SYSTEM.
It is also disgusting that when you gave mme Getplus INSTEAD OF the expected FLASH,
I had to accept this with no assurance that it would finally deliver Flash -
For all I knew you could have been downloading a keylogger and identity theft device.
I also am horrified by your incompetance demonstrated by the new high risk way of doing things :-
You totally failed to perform the download and upgrade after my many repeated attempts.
I gave up trying to upgrade.
Then I found that a site which always worked well now had problems due to my Flash being totally busted by your attempts.
You bungled everything - you even crippled the old version that had been functional.
I finally went back to the old way and uninstalled the broken Flash by using
http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/uninstall_flash_player.exe.
I then used the old way of a direct download of Flash 10.1, but again your GetPlus download manager had its evil way.
I now have Flash plugin 10.1.53, and have removed (so far as I can see) your wretched GetPlus virus downloader.
My computer seems to have survived all your exploits,
but I am still steaming over all the needless aggravation Adobe has caused me.
When I was given this P.C. one of the first major bloat things to be un-installed was Adobe Reader.
I did not like a few 100 MBytes of bloat to do what other readers achieve with less than 10 MBytes,
and I especially did not like the fact that by the time Adobe had started up I had forgotten which PDF I needed to read.
With a little more experience I now realise there are far more important reasons to avoid / replace Adobe products.
I am now anxiously waiting for HTLM5 to replace Flash.
Alan

Thanks for the information,
but not looking forward to needing it when existing vulnerabilities are identified.
I saw that GetPlus has a vulnerability when I looked at the Adobe FAQ before I allowed GetPlus to invade me.
Google gives 8 results for "getplus vulnerability",
or 43,400 results when omitting the quotes.
The 43,4000 results are reduced to 89 when I use Advanced search to restrict the search to Adobe.com.
I forget the precise phrase I saw in the Adobe FAQ which increased my concern over the GetPlus fellowtraveller,
but it definitely advised that there was an as yet unpatched vulnerability.
I cannot now find the relevant FAQ.
I guess my efforts are hampered by my Honours degree in technology instead of a degree in stupidity.
I am pretty sure that I saw the click opportunity to access the relevant FAQ whilst enroute to actually installing this unwanted downloader,
and I have no wish to go through that aggravation again - but I assure you the admission of this problem does appear on Adobe.com.

Now after 5 weeks, you have always not resolved this very important and urgent issue. It seems that Adobe has realy abandonned the actionscript / flash player projects. Why not simply discontinue flash player on desktops too ? Or even better remove or block "automaticaly" all flash players with the final update. That could create a serious issue on the Internet for few weeks but at least that will be honorable end like a Samurai's Seppuku...

  • Problem with Adobe Flash Player, download the new update

Hello, I have a problem when I try to download the new version of Adobe Flash Player.
I have no problem to download the file on my computer ( install_flashplayer13x32_mssd_aaa_aih.exe ) (Adobe - Installer Adobe Flash Player),
When I clicked on it ask me you sure you want to install the application so I do as usual and then nothing happens, the download file is not displayed, I'm repeat the operation that does not work ..
Help please ? (Sorry for my bad english I am french)

Use this installer instead: http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/support/install_flash_player.exe (for browsers like Firefox).
On Internet Explorer, Flash Player is already preinstalled by Microsoft.

  • I can't install an older version of flash player and the new one won't work.

I've read on the boards everyone says to run the Adobe uninstaller prior to trying to install the older version and I did, but the download still says it can't install the older version because it isn't the current version. And the current version isn't running on my computer. All I have is a black screen. I need the adobe flash player to for work purposes and it is really hindering my ability to function at work without it. Can someone please provide some kind of help that may actually work? Because I've uninstalled and reinstalled this several times. I have tried adjusting settings...everything I have found on the boards so far.

My experience (going back to a G5 iMac in 2005) is that you MUST install the lower version first in order to run two different versions on the same machine. I did it that way with CS and CS3, then CS3 and CS4, and later on my MacBook with CS4 and CS5. Now my Mini has CS5.5 and CS6, but I've always had to install the lower CS version first or the higher would keep the lower from installing.
So you will probably have to remove CS4 and then reinstall them both in the proper order.
Is there any particular reason you want or need both? In my case, I already had CS 3 and installed CS4 in addition, but later removed CS3 as I found CS4 was able to do everything CS3 did and then some. In fact I'm unaware of anything aside from some older filters that would run better in CS3 than CS4.

  • I am trying to install flash player on my new Macpro hardrive.  It is downloaded but I get the continual message that my I.D. and password are wrong. Help please!

I am trying to install my downloaded flash player on my new MacPro hard drive.  I get the continual message that my I.D. and password are wrong.  I know they are not wrong and have tried a lot of combinations from old Macs and old passwords too.  Nothing works.  How can I get the job done?

    Hi,
On Mac, this password prompt is presented by your operating system, and is intended to keep you from accidentally installing software which can harm your system. Flash Player does not throw this prompt, Apple does that.
Please provide machine credentials of currently logged in User to continue with the installation.
    Hope this helps.
    Thanks

how do I download adobe flash player on my new imac

This is asking you to store persistent Flash Cookies (meaning, they are not deleted when you delete your ordinary cookies.) Some sites will not work unless you allow them. Here's how to prevent them from getting on your computer in the first place, while keeping Flash and these sites working.
If you use Firefox, get the Add-on Better Privacy, which will delete them when you quit Firefox.
Or, trick these sites into thinking they are actually storing this crap: (These directions are for Flash Player 10 and above.)
Using the following, no LSOs (Flash Cookies) will be stored and yet Flash is tricked into thinking they are. As far as I can tell all sites employing Flash will function properly; nothing will be broken, including Comedy Central with its streaming video content. (In the directions above, I had mistakenly recommended setting the Storage panel in the local Flash Pref Pane to not allow. It must be left as "Allow sites to store...." This was why the Comedy Central clip I had been trying to play wasn't working.)
First, to get a new, clean folder, start by trashing the Macromedia folder in ~/Library/Preferences. That's in your user Library. Next, do not visit the local Flash Pref Pane in Sys Prefs. Instead, go directly to Adobe Global Privacy settings in the Adobe Settings Manager and set Camera and Mic to "Always deny." Visiting the Settings Manager will automatically create a new, clean Macromedia folder.
(If you first visit the local Flash Pref Pane, the new Macromedia folder will lack the empty default #shared objects folder and its also empty enclosed folder (this is the one with a combination of characters and numerals.) I haven't tested to see what will happen if those two folders are not present. I assume, providing the Macromedia folder is unlocked, they would be created as soon as one visits a Flash site, but they will not be empty and this would defeat the entire purpose.)
If you visit the local Flash Pref Pane now, all the defaults will remain, except for the Camera and Mic panel, where "Always deny" will be checked. Next, it seems prudent to go to the Playback panel and check "Block all sites from using peer assisted networking." But, important, in the Storage panel, you must leave the default "Allow sites to save...." checked. This is how sites using Flash are tricked into thinking storage of Flash Cookies is being allowed when they are, in fact, not.
Next, go back to the Macromedia Folder and, using GetInfo/CMD-I, recursively lock all its enclosed folders. This means starting from the back working ones way up to the front. And, finally, lock the enclosing Macromedia folder itself. Nothing gets stored and everything keeps on working.
(Thanks to Anon at XYMer's for this.)
EDIT: Maybe something I don't know, but I don't think AdBlock in Safari will defeat Flash Cookies. There may be some Safari extension that will.
    Maybe this extension

  • How do you download adobe flash player on the Mac?

How do you download adobe flash player on the mac without it failing? I use to have it and try to upgrade it and now it won't work. I can't even watch any videos on the Internet.

Adobe no longer supports 10.5 Leopard. You will have to upgrade to 10.6 to use the latest flash.10.5 Leopard was based on Power PC code and was written to be able to run on both Power PC and Intel processors. 10.6 Snow Leopard has completely rewritten code and only runs on Intel Macs. So anything written to run on 10.5  has twice the code needed for one written for 10.6 or newer.
The 10.6 Snow Leopard DVD is back in the Apple online store. You can get it for $19.99. You will need to be running 10.6.8 to access the App Store to order Lion or Mountain Lion. http://store.apple.com/us/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard

  • Is there an alternative to adobe flash player for the iPad?

Is there an alternative to adobe flash player for the ipad2?

No - flash is not supported, and probably never will be (http://www.apple.com/hotnews/thoughts-on-flash/ and Adobe havn't created a version that works on iOS anyway).
Browsers such as Skyfire, iSwifter, and Puffin 'work' on some sites, but not all judging by the reviews. You might also find that some sites (especially news sites) have their own apps on the app store which let you get some of the content that you want.

  • For some reason, the Flash Player on my MAC Pro stopped working, I've checked the install on my Adobe Flash Player and the are current, but the plug-ins don't seem to be working.  Can anyone help me get it working?

For some reason, the Flash Player on my MAC Pro stopped working, I've checked the install on my Adobe Flash Player and the are current, but the plug-ins don't seem to be working.  Can anyone help me get it working?

It happened w/ my MacPro 2.66 GHz Dual-Core Intel Xeon about 5 months ago; tried everything I could think of including multiple downloads of Flash, and hadn't seen any solutions here.  Adobe insisted many times that I download & update, but the newest vers. wouldn't work on the computer.
On checking Adobe/Flash was reading the computer as being an earlier model. So the new version of Flash wouldn't work w/ it.  Snow Leopard 10.6.8 was being read correctly but not the computer model (can't remember what MP model  it was reading).
Nothing worked. So -- a very old PC trick: If nothing else works get the hammer out and bludgeon it-- might work. So I reset everything by putting the Snow Leopard  install disk in, held down 'C' on restart and let it run.
Didn't take anything off the HDD first, just ran the install disk over everything.
The experts on the forums are probably cringing right now & I'd like very much for them to jump in. Love to know how my computer model was being mis-read. All I can say is, for the brave and desparate, it worked for me. Something to keep in mind.
It helped that I had a new computer on order & have 2 backups, one being mandatory. Might work only the one time but worth a check.
Good luck on working this one out.
